PFC Malaga storms back Competa enjoy their trip out West! EWN Walking Football Over 50s League

• EL CANADON 3 v 4 Competa Boca ‘Barbarians’ (friendly)

This friendly fixture took place first on the evening’s bill and, as the scoreline suggests, it was a keenly contested match with just a single goal making the difference in favour of the visitors.

• El Canadon 2 v 7 Competa Boca Seniors

This league fixture was the main event of the evening and, although again hardfought, Competa came away with the spoils with a more emphatic scoreline. By half time, they were 1 3 to the good but still leaving the home side with a chance to fight back. However, in the second half the visitors piled on the pressure, scoring some wellworked goals, and their defence limited El Canadon to scoring only from penalties given for running offences, rather than goals from open play.

Both games were excellently refereed, encouraging freeflowing football!

• Eurocopa Walking Football Tournament 2023

IT wasn’t the blowout they had hoped for, but it was enough to keep their top playoff hopes alive.

Before the game, PFC Malaga probably couldn’t have envisioned going scoreless in the first period. But that’s exactly the situation they found themselves in on Sunday night in front of a home crowd at Guadalmar Field.

It was a David versus Goliath as after 86 scoreless minutes, PFC Malaga (1811) looked to be running out of time to get the result needed as Atletico Portada Alta played with emotion, and the action rarely flagged in pace or intensity.

Flinch, they did not, and unfortunately for Portada Alta, that first half shock was exactly what PFC needed to awaken the sleeping giant from within. The ball bounced around in the middle of the box and you could see every chest thump broke free inside the box and sent the ball into the back of the net in 69 minutes.

Portada Alta tried to up their tempo and intensity after falling behind, but PFC kept their foot on the gas and snuffing out the few chances the shorthanded Portada Alta had at a comeback.

Portada Alta’s biggest opportunity to equalise was with a penalty, but the shot deflected off PFC’s goalkeeper Cecilia Yudego’s chest. She didn’t have to make another save after that moment.

After Idaira Bautista’s goal in the 86 min took all hope away from Portada Alta and you could tell, their body language, coming from long range or point blank, Portada Alta goalkeeper Alicia Casasola couldn’t erase the goals that were already on the scoreboard.

Salvador Ruiz’s Portada Alta owned it and at least temporarily suspended the belief that Pedro Martín’s PFC Malaga is some sort of deity and a team that can just steamroll through the neighbourhood.

Head coach Pedro Martín now has 13 consecutive victories in a row. That run included a March 12th road win over thenNo. 1 Malaga FC Women B, which propelled PFC to the No. 1 spot.
