Plaza Neptuno makeover inaugurated

BENIDORM inaugurated its newly revamped Plaza Neptuno during last week’s Europe Day celebrations.

The square in the Alfredo Corral neighbourhood has been completely renovated with antislip paving, shading, trees and green areas, fountains, new street furniture and greater accessibility thanks to EU funds.

In addition, the square has been pedestrianised along with the surrounding streets, where pedestrians now have right of way over all types of vehicles.

Plaza Neptuno is the main meeting point for neighbours and residents of this central neighbourhood that is located away from the more touristy areas and where the majority of

Benidorm’s older population is concentrated.

The previous space had become degraded over the years and was no longer functional and accessible.

Benidorm Council chose to hold this year’s Europe Day institutional event in the square to celebrate the arrival of the European funding, with Mayor Toni Pérez making a speech calling for peace in Ukraine and remembering how the town became an example of “how Spain could be a part of Europe” during the 1960s.

The sound of education Displays in Arty Calpe

UNTIL May 23 at the ARTE.44 gallery in Calpe, art fans can admire two new painting and sculpture displays by Véronique Vermeil and Edouardo Lastres.

Veronique Vermeil (19382017) was born in France. She was one of the most talented French artists of her generation. From the age of 17, she began to turn her life into an adventure. Her uncompromising passion for colour never faded. Her works have been on display in Tuscany, France, Brazil, Cape Verde and Tahiti, and have been the subject of numerous exhibitions in the most important cities in Europe.

Eduardo Lastres, born in 1946, lives and works in Alicante. He studied Architecture and Fine Arts in Sevilla and developed his professional activity in art from 1966 onwards. Painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, everything is the fruit of a great curiosity. He always looks for other paths which inevitably led him to different techniques.
