Contract signed

CALPE Council has approved the new municipal refuse collection and street cleaning contract that will be valid for the next nine years.

The green light was given in the last plenary session before the local elections last week to the same company that offered the service until now.

Five firms applied for the contract that was finally awarded to Acciona Servicios Urbanos for €38.7 million, which will include the construction of an ‘ecopark’ deposit centre for hazardous and electrical refuse, a reinforcement of the summer service, and improved vehicles and containers, among other improvements.

Calpe mayor Ana Sala described it as “one of the most important contracts in the town” and highlighted the fact that it replaces the previous one “that had become obsolete after 30 years.”

Until now the service had been carried out without a contract, which forced the town hall to pay the bills each month.
