MONTGO GOLF SOCIETY played for the Founders Day Trophy sponsored by Russ Peters, one of our remaining founders. Thank you Russ for your year­on­year sponsorship.

The Society welcomed two guest players, Carmen Knemeyer and Chris Chapman, and hope you both enjoyed your day with them.

The winner was trusted treasurer Geoff Willcock with 32 stableford points, taking second place was Handicap Secretary Sue Burman with 31 stableford points and in third place was Captain George Braddick with 30 stableford points, so it was a clean sweep for the committee.

We had three nearest the pin prizes on offer on the third, fifth and 16th and taking home the spoils were Keith Cottrell, Carmen Knemeyer and John Day, so well done you three.

There were no two’s so the stock of Montgo coveted golf balls remains intact. Next week’s competition is a two Ball Texas Scramble so they look forward to seeing you all again for this fun competition.

UP to 20 young Benidorm residents are currently taking part in a training course for gardening and administrative service auxiliary staff at the Pepita Puchades centre.

‘T’Avalem Benidorm’ (‘We support you Benidorm’) is organised by the town council and is aimed at unemployed residents aged 16 to 30, who are given a contract and training for one year.

This year’s number of participants is double that of the previous edition, proving the increasing success of the project.

Mayor Toni Pérez visited the students together with Employment councillor Mónica Gómez and encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity to find long­term work.

During the visit, the mayor described ‘T’Avalem’ as “a mixed employment and training programme, in which students receive theoretical and practical training and carry out work in the public interest, applying everything they have learnt.”

RESIDENTS in C alpe old town received a surprise visit on Friday May 12 when a mountain goat was spotted roaming the rooftops of the houses in the area.

Several neighbours alerted the Local Police, who spent the whole morning trying to capture the animal in order to return it to the Sierra de Oltà.
