AFTER recording excellent figures during the winter and spring season, the AlicanteElche Miguel Hernández Airport, located in El Altet is gearing up for the crucial summer season, which accounts for a significant portion of its annual traffic.

Authorities say they are anticipating breaking records this summer after consistently exceeding expectations since the start of the year.

According to figures released on Tuesday, May 16, the Alicante airport welcomed an unprecedented 1.43 million passengers in April, thanks to a boost from the Easter holidays. The excellent figures represent a growth of almost 20

per cent in passenger arrivals compared to April 2022 and an impressive 7 per cent increase over the recordbreaking April in 2019.

Throughout the year, El Altet has been setting new monthly records, overtaking records broken in 2019. The recordbreaking streak of 2022 has continued each month of this year with growth rates averaging 4 per cent.

Despite Aena’s fiveyear plan targeting 15 million passengers by 2026 (the record from 2019), the terminal nearly returned to prepandemic levels ahead of target, in 2022, handling over 13 million passengers, nearly 90 per cent of its record.
