ELCHE’S mayor and the councillor for Sports extended their congratulations to Elche Women’s Football Club after the team’s recent promotion to the second league, the 2a RFEF.
Carlos González, the mayor of Elche, and Vicente Alberola, the councillor for Sports, welcomed the players to the City Hall for a ceremony on Thursday, May 11 where they presented them with a plaque in recognition of their achievement.
During the reception, the mayor congratulated the team on their successful promotion, describing their season as “perfect” and praising their historic achievement.
He expressed his pride in each of the players, the coaching staff, and the significance of their achievement for the city and women’s football as a whole.
González also highlighted the growing importance of women’s sports in Spain, noting the tremendous progress made towards gender equality in sports.
Elche Football Club’s President Joaquín Buitrago also praised the players’ efforts, commitment, and resilience following their relegation and commended the unifying role of the coaching staff in bringing them back up.
In return, the club’s captain thanked the council for their support and expressed her hope for her team’s ongoing success.
