A sad farewell to ‘Mr Fixit’

ROUND four of the CarpRUs Murcia Series was fished at the Embalse de Argos, Murcia. Although a long way to travel this venue often provides exceptional sport to make the journey worthwhile. However, as always, conditions play a big part in fishing and while two days early the local temperature was some 34°C on the day of the match it was some 10°C cooler with a blustery wind which did not aid presentation.

This did not stop Doug Hornblow running out clear winner with 36.441kg taken using either method feeder or slow sinking feeder and pellets, and to think he did nothing but moan when he saw his peg was on the cold side! A long way behind in second was Steve Fell with 11.40kg from peg 4 caught using either method or cage feeder and wafters, third was Alan Davis from peg 1 with 10.10kg (method feeder and wafter) and fourth from peg 5 was Nick Bastock (method feeder and maggot). Second, third and fourth were all on the warm side.

Monday May 8 we said goodbye to Terry ‘Mr Fixit’ Screen, 79 who sadly passed away the previous week. Terry was a founder member of CarpRUs and other local fishing clubs and was well known to many outside of the clubs. He was instrumental in establishing angling on the southern Costa Blanca including helping to create new venues that everyone could enjoy.

He had time for everyone and would often regale you with tales of his fishing exploits both back in England and here in Spain. He was a font of knowledge and a dab hand at fixing all sorts of broken fishing tackle. He will be sorely missed not only by his family but by the whole of the fishing community on the Costa Blanca.

Further information about the club can be found on its website www.carprus.wee bly.com or on the Facebook page CarpRUs Fishing Costa Blanca.
