VERA TOWN HALL on Tuesday May 23 activated a Municipal Emergency Plan due to the risk of floods in the area, as a result of the extreme rainfall across Almeria.
Between 3pm and 9pm on Monday, May 22, the extreme rainfall resulted in around 40 incidents, according to the Emergencias de Andalucia.
The affected areas included, Nijar, El Ejido, Purchena, Albox, Carboneras, Huercal Overa, Los Gallardos, Cuevas de Almanzora, Garrucha, Vera, Zurgena, as well as in Almeria capital.
Most of the incidents have been due to debris deposited on roads in different areas of the province. On the AL 6112 in Carboneras, the Guardia Civil reported that the road had been blocked at kilometre 2 by the exit of a ravine.
The municipality of Vera in particular was under severe strain, with homes flooded including five people, three adults and two minors, evacuated from a farmhouse in El Real de Vera.

Thankfully there was no record of injuries. Also in Vera, some warnings were coordinated for vehicles that became stranded on the road.
In the Almeria capital, a postal delivery man was injured when driving on Avenida de Cabo de Gata where he crashed into a sewer overflowing with rain. He was taken by the health services to the Torrecardenas Hospital.

In Tijola, a young woman of 18 and a man of 57 years were evacuated to the hospital of Baza following an accident in which they fell down a ravine.

In Cuevas de Almanzora, firefighters located a man who had not been heard from since the morning on the beach of Quitapellejos, in Villaricos.
The man was later found inside his vehicle, trapped in an area by mud. The man was in good condition and did not require medical assistance.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issued an Orange weather warning, which was put into force in many places until
9am on Wednesday May 24.
Residents were advised to exert extreme caution and follow some selfprotection guidelines to prevent risks and ensure safety.

MORE than 650 gymnasts took part in the Costa de Almeria Cup on May 14.

Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport that demands talent, hard work and technique and that is what the athletes who participated in the Costa de Almeria Cup trophy demonstrated.
A total of 26 teams from all over the province competed in the Moises Ruiz Pavilion and the mayor of the city, Maria del Mar Vazquez, joined them for the prize-giving ceremony.
The mayor said: “From the city council, through the Municipal Sports
ALMERIA City Council has begun construction work on 32 new niches in the La Canada cemetery.

Board, we are committed to grassroots sport, and this competition is a good example of that.
“We want everyone who participated to continue to enjoy rhythmic gymnastics and to contin- ue with the healthy habit of sport throughout their lives.”
TROPHY: More than 650 gymnasts took part.
She added: “Congratulations to the organising club, Costaritmica, and to the participants, as you are all champions.”
