THE Andalucian Nomads Golf Society Spain orchestrated a remarkable event on Tuesday, May 9 at Mijas Golf, uniting 70 participants in a golf tournament dedicated to honouring the memory of Craig Thomson.

This incredible initiative has resulted in a generous donation of €2,090, split equally between Age Concern Fuengirola, Mijas and Benalmadena and Adimi.

Roger Wedge, the event organiser, expressed his gratitude during the donation ceremony at Bar Marie, stating,
“We chose May 9 because it would have been Craig’s birthday on the 10th. Around 70 players joined us, and together, we raised over €2,000. It’s truly fantastic.”
Craig Thomson’s family expressed their pride in commemorating the late owner of Bar Marie through this charitable event.
Marie Ewen, his wife, extended her gratitude, saying, “I simply want to thank everyone who participated in Craig’s memorial day. It has only been six months since his passing, but the attendance of friends, family, and golfers was incredible. I am grateful to The Nomads for making this day possible.”
The Nomads were back on the green on Tuesday, May 23, with a fantastic turnout despite the rainy conditions.
Javier Hidalgo, councillor for Cleaning, said that over 200 posters are currently being installed and distributed in areas where frequent violations of this nature occur.
These posters serve as reminders for dog owners to fulfil their obligations to scoop their poop or risk penalties ranging from €301 to €1,500.
“Regardless of how dili gently our services clean and sweep the streets every day, without the collective effort, these efforts will not endure,” said Hidalgo.
BENALMADENA athlete Rubén Heemskerk Herrero has added another impressive achievement to his ultratrail career. As a member of the Andalucian men’s ultratrail team, he helped secure the second place position in the team category at the Spanish Ultra Trail Championship held in Pauls, Tarragona on Friday, May 19.
The posters feature an ex plicit design, incorporating a contemporary image an icon synonymous with a popular WhatsApp emoji. Hidalgo also stressed the importance of pet owners carrying a bottle of water mixed with vinegar to clean and sterilise unscoopable faeces.
He sees the effort to keep the streets clean and bacteriafree as a collective effort in which the council, the residents and visitors to Fuengirola should be all engaged.
“Our aim is to maintain our position as one of the cleanest towns nationwide, and this is an objective that all of us must strive to achieve,” concluded Hidalgo.
Benalmadena’s trailblazer
The Andalucian women’s team also emerged as champions in their category, while the men’s team secured second place, with outstanding teamwork on display from both squads. With challenging terrain and scorching temperatures, the strategy involved taking calculated risks to advance in the rankings.
“The race covered a distance of 75 kilometres, with over 10,000 metres of climbing in total, passing through the Los Puertos national park,” said Rubén.

The mayor, Víctor Navas, jumped right into the excitement alongside the Norwegian community who celebrated their National Day, a momentous event marking the signing of their Constitution back in 1814.
