Putting with purpose
THE Lions Club of Marbella is about to hit the greens in a grand way, hosting a sensational charity golf tournament that will raise money for a variety of local causes. The tournament is set to take place at the Atalaya Old Course on Saturday, May 27 with a shotgun start at 9am, kicking off the individual stableford event. Golfers will also be swinging into action for a great cause.
The tournament will support two remarkable charities: Avoi, which supports children in Malaga hospitals, and the Fundación Caixa. Following the tournament, a gala dinner and prizegiv ing ceremony will be held at the clubhouse at 7.30pm. The tournament winners’ announcement will be followed by lively musical entertainment.

The Lions Club Marbella Club is mainly composed of Germanspeaking members, along with several other international residents.
Just 10 years ago under the management of Manuel Pellegrini, the team made it to the quarter finals of the Champions League, but after he jumped ship for better things at Manchester City they have been on a slippery slope. An injection of cash from the club’s Qatari owners has not been forthcoming, so they are back in the third tier for the first time since 1998.
On Tuesday, June 6, the organisation will host a history walk entitled ‘Today and Yesterday’. Guests are invited to step back in time and be captivated by the town’s beauty and rich history with a focus on the last century. Visitors will be walked through the transformation of the town from a humble agricultural village to its emergence as a popular tourist destination with a vibrant international community. A knowledgeable tour guide will lead guests around the town’s hidden cobblestoned streets, uncovering a fascinating tapestry of history. The event follows several cultural activities which have been organised monthly this year.
THE Gibraltar Health Authority’s Head Orthoptist, Michelle Brown, recently travelled to a school in Guatemala on a charity mission with a team of professionals working at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Their aim was to test almost 400 children who have never had an eye test for economic reasons.
The team, made up of three orthoptists, two optometrists and one ophthalmologist are all experts in paediatric eye care.
Together they managed to screen 374 children in total, of which 102 were prescribed glasses which are now being prepared in the UK, and two pairs of glasses will be provided to each child who needs them.
