THE Guardia Civil is investigating the discovery of a body on the morning of Friday, July 14, on the N340 highway, at Orihuela, near the San Carlos neighbourhood of Redován.

At 8.15am, emergency services received a call that a per­ son was lying, apparently lifeless, in the ditch of the main road. The Guardia Civil attended the scene, quickly followed by traffic officers.

Upon arrival in the area and after checking the man for vital signs, it was verified that

the victim had died. He was a 55­year­old man of Ukrainian nationality who had several injuries. These were apparently caused by a hit­and­run.

The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation into the incident.

FFCV football

PINOSO Football Club, who are now in the FFCV category, have had a sneaky peek of their rivals as the Valencian Football Federation released the competition calendars.

PERFECT CONDITION: The beach cleaners work at night.

ALICANTE City Council and UTE Alicante, the concessionaire company for the cleaning service, have allocated 50 workers and 20 beach cleaning machines this summer to clean the beaches. Until the end of September, 21 teams will work between 2am and 8am to leave the sand in perfect condition. Rubbish bins will also be emptied during the day.

The special service consists of six tractors and two machines for filtering and cleaning the sand from on beaches. The tractors clean the Postiguet, Albufera, San Juan and Urbanova beaches so that all users can find the beaches clean, pristine and in perfect condition.

The competition will begin on the weekend of September 9 and 10 and will feature the following teams: Murada, Atletico Catral, Novelda Union, Villena, Almoradi, Villajoyosa, Carrus Ilicitana, Benferri, Novelda, Campello, Polop, Mutxamel, Costablanca Torrevieja, San Fulgencio and Crevillente FB.
