ELCHE department of Sports has presented the second edition of the ‘Demolision Bikers’ mountain bike ride, a race with a route of about 35 kilometres and a cumulative drop of 700 metres. It will take place on Sunday, September 17.

The race will be carried out in different parts of Elche. “We want mountain biking to continue being an opportunity to get to know the nature of Elche", explained the representative of the Demolision Bikers cycling club Aquilino Galindo.

The route will have all means necessary of security and organisation, including local police, ambulances and up to 100 volunteers who will cover the route. In addition, at the end of the journey, there will be a farewell party in the Paseo de la Estación.

Registrations have a limit of 700 participants and remain open for athletes who still want to join.

The main objective is to promote mountain biking and “be a benchmark for Elche and the entire region", said Galindo.

The Summer Orihuela Costa programme includes children's games, such as gymkhanas, skill games, water games and sports activities aimed at the little ones, while the older ones can participate in guided sports activities, such as body combat, zumba or body attack. The councillor for youth, Anabel García, indicated that the objective is to "promote and encourage sport as a recreational activity among young people."

“A recreational-sports programme has been designed promoting healthy lifestyle habits such as yoga or pilates which, in addition, are an ideal leisure alternative for young people”, said García, who added that “the little ones can also enjoy recreational activities directed by specialised monitors”.

Campoamor will host the Summer Orihuela Costa on August 28, 29 and 31. Playa Flamenca on August 10 and 11 and Cabo Roig, on August 14, 16, 17 and 18.

24 and 25. The activities are free and will take place between 7.30pm and 9pm.

Nights of culture

THE department of culture for Orihuela has announced the programme for "Nights of Culture", which will bring different activities to Orihuela Costa during the month of August.

This was announced on Friday, August 4 by the councillor for the area, Gonzalo Montoya, who explained that all of them will take place at 9.30pm on the esplanade of Playa Flamenca, and admission is free.

The performance of the children's play “The Little Mermaid”, directed by Pedro Llaudes from Oriolan, has been planned for Thursday, August 10. Likewise, the company East End Producciones will be in charge of representing the play "Paris" on Thursday, August 17 and on Thursday, August 24, a theatrical concert entitled "Music and poetry for the soul" has been scheduled by the symphony orchestra of Orihuela, and dedicated to the poetry of Miguel Hernández.

"It is about celebrating, through the scenic arts and the work of our universal poet, the lively culture of Orihuela and its coastline in this month of August", said the mayor, while recalling that the purpose of this programming "is to structure the territory of Orihuela through culture".
