ALONGSIDE the San Miguel Fair celebrations, a sports activities programme will take place.

The mayor of Torremolinos, Margarita del Cid, confirmed: “This year we have worked on an intense programme, San Miguel Sports Fair, which will take place throughout the month of September.

“We are offering a total of 16 sporting events covering more than 10 different disciplines. We are seeking to involve everyone, young and old.”

Sporting events will take place from September 1 onwards throughout the whole month.

The councillor for Sports, Ramon Alcaide added: “On September 9 we are holding an event that has never been done before in our city: the strongman and strongwoman of Torremolinos.”

The bulky sports programme also includes the Traditional Games Party on Sunday, September 3 at the indoor tennis and paddle courts from 10.00am. This is a family activity that will replace the aquatic party, which this year due to the drought, cannot take place.

has replaced benches in the Plaza de la Nina and the Mirador del Muro, next to the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzman. It has also incorporated LED lighting in this viewpoint and the staircase that connects to Avenida del Chorrillo.

In addition, work has been carried out to improve the lighting in Parque Los Limones and new litter bins have been placed in the children’s playground.

The councillor added that for the Fair they have been working flat out to ensure that everything was in order.

IT is only 14 days to the start of the Festival Cala Mijas which sees three days of different bands from around the world performing to expected large crowds.

Unlike Mare Nostrum in Fuengirola and Starlite in Marbella this is not a summer long event but the decision to host it has caused disagreement between local residents.

Some see it as a way of attracting visitors whilst others consider it an expensive extravagance. Time will tell who is right.
