THE former mayor of Competa, Leovigildo Lopez, has been banned from holding public office for seven years for a crime against territorial planning. He has been found guilty of illegally granting a licence, and will also have to pay a fine of €10 per day for 12 months. Two councillors and the municipal architect have also been given the same sentence. Despite having a report from the Junta de Andalucia Housing and Territorial Planning Council which categorically stated that the licence for a house in the area known as Pago de El Cerro should not be granted, the mayor, architect and councillors permitted a woman to go ahead with the project in November 2004. In March 2005, the Junta de Andalucia issued a report against the construction of the building.
