New machines to make the sand clean FuENGIRoLA Council has spent almost €22,000 on two new machines to clean the sand. The councillor for Beaches, Ana Mula, presented the machines, called mini self-propelled beach cleaners, which sift the sand. As they are small, they can be used in narrow or hard to access areas, such as those around sunbeds or along the wall separating the sand from the seafront. They will get rid of refuse such as stones and seaweed, as well as
rubbish left by humans, aerate the sand and keep the area free of bacteria and microbes. They can be used by a single person and smooth the sand as they go.
