Surrealism was the artistic movement that explored the workings of the mind, championing the irrational, the poetic and the revolutionary. With the exploration of dreams and absurdities, surrealists used “automatic techniques to create images inspired by the sequences of dreams and subconscious combining inanimate objects and unusual landscapes. The Surreal body united the spheres of physical and psychological nature and allowed the exploration of sexuality as an aspect of modernity. It was the main factor in the commodity power of surrealism and has been an object of control -dismantled, fragmented, abhorrent, erotic and blessed- in search of a set of psychological, sociological and sexual anxieties.
ÂŤBe daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the creatures of commonplace.Âť Cecil Beaton
