stunning fashion. The striking facade pays homage to the vibrant Ukara fabric adorning initiates of the Ekpe secret society of Cross RiverState,Nigeria.
CONCEPT
I developed a facade concept by utilizing the culture of the Ek people in Cross River State.
The Ritual Cloth of the Ekpe Society features the ukara cloth, a composite signier of authority, prestige, sacrality, difference, and social mobility in the Ekpe secret society in the Cross River basin encompassing southeastern Nigeria and parts of Cameroon. The Ukara material on the building facade is inform of a wrapper wrapped around the building skin.

CONCEPT
Inspired by the skin of a pine cone, the building's unique triangulated diagrid facade responds to its environment like a living organism, acting as an articulated sunshade that deals with the sunlight, heat load, glare and wind deection, while maintaining views and daylight.
The building facade is a type of breathable facade system that was adopted from the South Australian Research Institute [SAHMRI]. The SAHMRI building accommodates up to 675 researchers wet and dry laboratories. The building form is further expressed by its unique triangulated diagrid facade inspired by the skin of a pine cone. The triangulated structure and articulated sunshade allows for singular skin to the building to create a sculptured object.
