Finally, another Issue of Evanston Magazine. There have been a lot of changes in my life as a publisher. However, I’ve been approached by multiple people who found the preceding issues to be surpisingly very valuable? Therefore, enjoy this isssue I love doing this.

One of the main differences in this magazine is that have made a clean departure from any partnership with Evanston Woman Magazine, it’s publisher, and any connections to that entity. I give kudos to Ms Del Bosqui under her guidance Evanston Magazine had the opportunity to grow and flourish. At the time, I had no knowledge that in my future, I would publish a magazine. For that level of inspiration, I do thank her and wish her well in her future endeavors.

This Magazine Is Very Top Heavy In Male Perspective.

This is the first time that I ever had the opportunity to speak on air conditioning, and heating systems. My voice and my prospective. When you should change out your air conditioning and heating. It is a very interesting article and it was a pleasure to create.

Also. In the past, issues of EM magazine, you may have recognized that EM was intricate in monitoring the fight over the Robert Crown Center. Now that the center is built and has had a chance to show its value, EM (p.18) explores the conclusion to the thought “was it worth the fight?”

Continuing with the theme of political battles, while reading you will read your way into the conversation so prevalent in the 5th ward. Gentrification of the 5th ward is a conversation that comes to a strong conclusion, read away.

Finally, you will be introduced to one of the ICON’s in Evanston fighting for STEM- Henry Wilkens. When it pertains to STEM schooling and the importance of that in the future of 5th ward children Henry is making the sacrifices neccessary.

I’m very thankful for this issue and we will. And we will be publishing at least digitally every. I look forward to. Any conversation that may come my way. Please feel free to reach out -(Email. Afoster at Evanstonmagazine net. )

NEWEST KID ON THE BLOCK

I discovered this delectable spirit by chance. The actual sales man was set up in the liqour store of my favorite area. He explained the price and the style. I purchased it and will now review it for the Evanston Magazine readers.

The spirit has a very sweet smell, and I can detect the usual vanilla and caramel flavors in the mix. The biggest difference to me is a smooth nature filled spicy smell, almost like a oatmeal cookie taste.

Peppery on the nose with notes of fruit, honey, caramel and vanilla. Strong and warm in the first sip, letting in oak, caramel and honey. Rye is noticeable and tasty, but in the back seat of your tongue.

It’s a darn good spirit its own there’s some peppery complexity that makes me really happy. But while I’d normally expect the ice to drop the sweeter and softer tones, instead the peppery kick is what disappears. That’s all details, though. It’s still a delicious spirit that is competitive in price and quality with Bulleit Bourbon. And in that battle the fact that it’s actually sourced, distilled, and bottled in by a friends company makes it a winner in my book.

LEADERSHIP FOR THE KIDS

HENRY WILKINS

THE 5TH WARD WILL HAVE A STEM SCHOOL AND HE WILL MAKE SURE OF IT

Henry Wilkins is a resident of Evanston, Illinois and an advocate for the need of a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) school in the 5th ward of the city. He believes that a STEM school in this area would greatly benefit the community and its future generations.

One of the main reasons for the need of a STEM school in the 5th ward is the lack of access to quality education in these fields. Many students in the area are not exposed to the opportunities and resources that a STEM education can provide. A STEM school would give students in the 5th ward the chance to learn about the latest technology, research and development and engineering. This knowledge and skill set will open up many opportunities for the students in the future, and help to close the gap in access to education and job opportunities.

The future benefits of a STEM school in the 5th ward of Evanston are numerous. Firstly, it will provide students with the necessary skills to enter into the workforce in STEM-related fields. This will in turn increase the number of professionals in these fields, which is crucial for the development of the economy and the community. Additionally, a STEM school will increase the number of students pursuing higher education in STEM-related fields, which will lead to further advancements in technology and research. Furthermore, a STEM school will provide opportunities for students to engage in hands-on learning and real-world projects. This will not only enhance their understanding of the subjects, but also prepare them for the workforce. Moreover, the school will provide a platform for students to participate in competitions and hackathons, which will give them the chance to showcase their skills and connect with professionals in the field.

THE GENTRIFICATION OF THE FIFTH WARD

The 5th Ward of Evanston, Illinois is a historically Black neighborhood that has been experiencing a significant change in recent years. This change, known as gentrification, has brought new development and rising property values, but it has also displaced long-time residents and changed the cultural fabric of the community.

Gentrification is defined as the process of renovating and improving a run-down urban neighborhood, often resulting in the displacement of lower-income residents. In the 5th Ward of Evanston, this process has been driven by an influx of affluent residents and businesses, as well as city-led redevelopment projects. The result has been a rapid increase in property values and a decrease in the affordability of housing for long-time residents.

The 5th Ward has a rich history as a center of Black culture and community in Evanston. However, in recent years, the neighborhood has seen a significant increase in the number of white residents and businesses, as well as a decrease in the number of Black residents. This demographic shift has led to the loss of Blackowned businesses and cultural institutions, as well as a change in the overall character of the neighborhood. One of the major effects of gentrification in the 5th Ward has been the displacement of long-time residents. Rising property values and rent prices have made it increasingly difficult for low-income residents, particularly those who are Black, to afford to live in the neighborhood. This

displacement has not only forced residents to move out of the community, but it has also disrupted the social networks and support systems that have long been a vital part of the 5th Ward’s cultural identity.

The city of Evanston has acknowledged the issue of gentrification in the 5th Ward and has implemented some policies to address it. Key community members like 5th ward Alderman Bobby Burns and others lead the discussion and defend against full expantion and expultion of life time 5th ward citizens. Leaders also look to fairly shape the policies. These policies include the creation of affordable housing units, and the allocation of funds to support the development of Black-owned businesses. However, some residents and community activists argue that these efforts are not enough to counteract the negative effects of gentrification and that more needs to be done to protect the community from displacement.

In conclusion, gentrification in the 5th Ward of Evanston, Illinois is changing the character of the neighborhood, displacing long-time residents, and erasing the Black cultural identity of the community. While the city has implemented some policies to address the issue, more needs to be done to protect the community from displacement and to preserve the cultural heritage of the 5th Ward. It’s important to consider the impact of gentrification on the long-time residents and to work towards creating a more equitable and just community for all.

High Rises dont always sit full.Airbnb.com can help

Airbnb has launched Niido, its first branded apartment building in Kissimmee, Florida, designed to make hosting guests via the platform easy for renters. With 324 units, the apartments feature large common areas and flexible spaces that can easily be converted from bedrooms to workstations, with lockboxes in every room to keep personal belongings safe. Guests receive unique codes for keyless entry that last for the duration of their stay. The 3% Airbnb booking fee will see 75% go to the Niido resident, while the other 25% will subsidise local programming such as cooking lessons or art classes, some of which will be drawn from Airbnb Experiences. While some commentators have been critical of Niido’s scalability, the initiative is seen as a way of filling unused apartment buildings in cities such as Evanston, Illinois.

Niido powered by Airbnb offers a potential solution for filling up empty tall buildings in urban areas like Evanston. By creating a building specifically designed for home-sharing,

Airbnb is providing a new avenue for property owners to generate income through short-term rentals. This not only benefits the property owners but also provides a unique travel experience for guests who want to immerse themselves in the local community.

However, it remains to be seen how successful this model will be in the long run. While the idea of a building designed for home-sharing is innovative, some may argue that it goes against the authentic travel experience that Airbnb initially offered. Additionally, the scalability of this model is still uncertain and it remains to be seen if this concept will work in other cities.

Despite the potential drawbacks, the Niido powered by Airbnb building in Kissimmee, Florida, is a promising start for the company. With more buildings planned for the future, it will be interesting to see how this concept evolves and if it can provide a viable solution for filling up empty tall buildings in urban areas.

EVANSTON’S BOLD STEP TO START THE REPARATIONS BATTLE WAS HEROIC AND HISTORIC

The City of Evanston, Illinois has taken a historic step in addressing the issue of reparations for African Americans by becoming the first city in the United States to approve a program for its Black residents. The program, which was approved in 2019, aims to provide financial assistance to Black residents who can prove a direct lineage to individuals who were enslaved in the United States. The funding for the program comes from the city’s cannabis tax revenue and will offer eligible residents up to $25,000 for housing assistance, home repairs, and down payment assistance for home purchases.

Evanston’s program is a significant move towards addressing the systemic racism and discrimination that Black Americans have faced for centuries. It is a direct acknowledgement of the harm caused by slavery and discrimination and a recognition that the effects of this harm are still felt by Black Americans today. Additionally, the program sends a message that the city is committed to addressing and rectifying the

legacy of slavery and discrimination and creating a more just and equitable community.

Despite the positive impact of the program, there have been criticisms. Some have argued that the program is too small and limited in scope to have a significant impact, while others have argued that it should be more broad-based and not limited to direct descendants of enslaved individuals. Regardless of these criticisms, Evanston’s leadership in approving the program should be recognized and celebrated as a positive step towards addressing the issue of reparations for Black Americans. Evanston Magazine confirms the “giving of flowers while they are here” to all who put effort toward this historic moment.

The historic significance of this program and its biggest value is that it has also sparked a national conversation about reparations for Black Americans, with other cities and states considering similar programs. The Evanston program serves as a reminder that the issue of reparations for Black Americans is not just a matter of historical significance, but also a matter of current concern and importance. Overall, the City of Evanston’s reparations program is a bold move forward in addressing the issue of reparations and creating a more just and equitable society for all.
