The room, is approached as a mechanism. A mechanism which produces or imposes particular situations, related always directly with the object's and the subject's presence or absence. Room, the minimum space unit, can be considered as a voluntary confinement space, a space of refuge. It is also becoming a point of reference to resident's enclosure. Any disruption of the normal image of the room therefore can cause improper feelings, insecurity, and anxiousness. The distortion of this closed system that house and room constitute is in the core of the installations that are presented in this essay. The concept of confinement, the sense of uncanny, the disorientation, the existence and use of heretical objects or their absence, the scaling are basic elements that are contained in the unusual rooms of Dan Graham, Paul McCarthy, Gregor Schneider, Mark Manders.
