GI Jobs Magazine named EvCC a military friendly school.

Mandatory Advising

Meet with a faculty advisor before registering for your third quarter. Questions: 425-388-9339 EverettCC.edu/Advising

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS MONEY What if I need financial aid?

2. EvCC’s Financial Aid Office will email you when they receive your FAFSA with the additional information they need from you. Your application is not complete until you submit this information. Get the additional information and forms to them by the deadlines listed at EverettCC.edu/FA 3. Monitor your financial aid account using the Student Financial Aid Portal: EverettCC.edu/FAstatus 4. If your entire application (FAFSA and additional documents/ information) is complete by the deadline, you may qualify for a hold on your account, so that you are not dropped from classes. If you qualify the hold is automatically done by Financial Aid. 5. If you change your mind about attending, you must drop your classes.

What if I don’t qualify for Financial Aid? The Worforce Funding office assists students in locating non-financial aid funding sources. Some are based on income or program, so visit them and find out if you qualify for funding. Visit EverettCC.edu/FRC for a list of funding options.

What if I owe EvCC money? Your registration and access to your transcript may be blocked until all debts are resolved. Make sure you clear your account at least 24 hours before you want to register for classes. The College reserves the right to bill students for unpaid tuition and fees or drop students from unpaid classes. Returned checks, cancelled credits cards, employer refusal to pay, ineligibility or lateness for financial aid and other reasons for non-payment may result in a direct bill to the student and/or referral to a collection agency.

What if I dropped a class. Do I get a refund? Look at the refund deadlines on page 5. Some classes have different deadlines, and those will be listed in the class schedule listings. All drops must be by close of business on the deadline day. A refund, if due, is mailed to the student’s address on file or credited back to the credit card or agency. Refunds can take up to five weeks to process. Refunds under $10 will only be processed with a written request from the student. For students receiving financial aid, refunds may also be calculated in accordance with state/federal rules. These formulas are published in the Financial Aid procedures manual. Dropping classes during the quarter may trigger a request for repayment of financial aid money.

What if someone else is paying my tuition? If your funding source does not cover all of your tuition and fees, it is your responsibility to pay the remaining charges. Following are some common third party payment sources.

FAQ

1. Start the process by completing the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (“FAFSA”) at fafsa.gov Use this website only for the FAFSA because some other websites charge a fee.

Your employer is paying. As the student, you are responsible for submitting a payment voucher from your employer or agency to the Cashiers Office in Parks 201. Submit it immediately after registration. If there will be a short delay in payment, work with the Cashiers Office to see if your account can be on “hold” so you won’t be dropped from classes for non-payment. Trade Act is paying. Work with Workforce Funding before registering. Immediately after registering, go to the Cashiers Office and identify yourself as a Trade Act student, so your account is properly created. Questions: 425-259-8755. Worker Retraining is paying. Work with Workforce Funding. Questions: 425-259-8755. Opportunity Grant is paying. Work with Workforce Funding. Grants must be validated every quarter. Questions: 425-259-8755.

REGISTRATION What if I’m on a waitlist? 1. Monitor your waitlist status daily through My EvCC. Everettcc.edu/MyEvCC You will be notified by email if you are moved into a class. Once you are in a class, standard tuition deadlines apply (see page 8). 2. Being on a waitlist never guarantees entry into the class. 3. Waitlists run automatically through the day before the quarter begins. 4. Most Importantly: You do not have to pay tuition for waitlisted classes unless/until you are actually moved off the waitlist and into the class. Financial Aid, Veterans and other populations needing to prove you are registered full-time (12 credits): If you are on a waitlist those credits will not show in your total credits or tuition due. Your check/funding may be delayed until you get off the waitlist and into the class. Advisors can help you explore alternatives. 5. If you are on a waitlist when classes begin, you must go to the first class to guarantee consideration for the class. If the class is online, please email the instructor by the first day of the class to indicate you are still interested in being in the class.

What if I sign up for classes and then decide not to attend (for whatever reason)? Drop the classes you are not going to attend. Never assume that the college has dropped you just because you didn’t show up for classes or because your financial aid funding didn’t go through.

CHILD CARE What if I need child care? • Early Learning Center is on campus for children 12 months – 5 years old. • Qualifying EvCC students receive priority enrollment, subsidized rates, or free ECEAP preschool. Go to EverettCC.edu/ELC

SELF-SUPPORT CLASSES Self-support classes are identified in the class schedule listings. Selfsupport classes do not follow the tuition rates. Financial Aid will pay for self-support but some funding sources will not.

Online: Using Student Kiosk with Visa or MasterCard at EverettCC.edu/CreditCardPay In Person: At the Cashiers Office in Parks 201. We accept check, money order, cash, personal checks (for the exact amount of tuition and fees), Visa, Mastercard or debit card.

20/40 PAYMENT PLAN EvCC offers the 20/40 Plan. Students may make three payments: The first payment of half the tuition and fees is due by the normal deadline. The second and third payments are due by the 20th calendar day and the 40th calendar day of one quarter. There is a $10.60 fee for this service. Students start the process by going to the Cashiers Office by the 5th day of the quarter and asking for the 20-40 Plan form. This option is not available to students enrolled in self-support programs, EMT, Fire Science, Medical Transcription, Medical Coding and CCEC.

PAYMENT DEADLINES

Self-support classes: $102.91 per credit.

CLASS FEES Some classes require additional fees. If applicable, the specific amount of the fee appears in the class listing. If an employer or agency is paying your tuition: Go to the Cashiers Office after you register and submit payment authorization forms. Otherwise you risk being dropped due to non-payment. If your agency or employer needs proof that you are registered full-time, your best bet is to register early and work with an advisor if your classes are waitlisted. If you are moved from the waitlist into a class, you must pay immediately.

If you register May 12 - August 23 tuition is due August 23 at 5:30pm. If you register August 25 - September 7, tuition is due within 5 business days. If you register on or after September 8, tuition is due September 16 by 4:30pm. Once the quarter starts, tuition is due at the time of registration. Note: The college reserves the option to bill for or drop students from unpaid classes. Students who are receiving financial aid, a scholarship, or third-party payment must make prior arrangements with Financial Aid and Cashiers Office in order to avoid being dropped. By registering you are taking personal responsibility to pay tuition and/or fees.

TUITION FOR FALL QUARTER 2016 Note: Fees for self-support classes vary. See description above, as well as the specific course listings for unique fees. See Payment Deadlines for the payment schedule and deadlines. Fees listed in the courses section of this schedule are also subject to change. Visit EverettCC.edu for more information.

Special Note: US citizens and permanent residents who have not yet gained residency in Washington State may be eligible for a partial tuition reduction. Contact Enrollment Services for more information. Any current non-resident student who wishes to be reclassified as a resident student must complete a Residency Questionnaire for determination of eligibility. Applications for reclassification in the current quarter must be submitted to the Enrollment Services Office before the 30th calendar day of the quarter. If the College discovers an error in the student’s residency status during the quarter, the Dean of Enrollment and Student Financial Services will determine whether or not additional tuition and fees are due.

TUITION REDUCTION PROGRAMS For state-supported classes, several types of students may be eligible for tuition reduction. Typically, tuition reduction programs do not apply to self-support classes. All lab fees, special fees, books and supplies must be paid. Senior Citizens, age 60 or older, may audit one or two classes, for $5 each plus fees, on a space available basis, beginning the 6th day of the term. Contact the Enrollment Services Office. Registration prior to the 1st day causes disqualification.

COURSE REPEAT POLICY Courses may be repeated to improve the grade earned, but credit is only earned once. To repeat a course, the student must register for the course, submit a course repeat card at the time of registration and pay all necessary fees. A course may only be repeated twice. See the College Catalog for specific procedures. The course repeat form is also available on the web at EverettCC.edu/StudentForms

POLICIES / PUBLIC INFO ADULT EDUCATION

RESIDENCY FOR TUITION PURPOSES For tuition purposes, students eligible for resident tuition rates are defined as follows:

For more information about EvCC graduation rates, the median debt of students who completed the program, and other important information, visit our website at EverettCC.edu/GainfulEmployment The Higher Education Act (HEA) prohibits an institution of higher education from engaging in a “substantial misrepresentation of the nature of its educational program, its financial charges, or the employability of its graduates.” 20 U.S.C. §1094(c)(3)(A). Further, each State must have “a process to review and appropriately act on complaints concerning the institution including enforcing applicable State laws.” 34 C.F.R. § 600.9. The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) maintains a process to investigate complaints of this nature brought by community and technical college students in the State of Washington. For more information, contact the SBCTC Student Services Office at 360-704-4315.

DIRECTORY INFORMATION Under law, the College may release the following information on students to anyone who inquires: student name, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, height and weight of athletic team members, quarters attended, degrees or awards received, birthdate, enrollment status (part-time or full-time) e-mail address, and last previous educational agency or institution attended by the student. The College may also release information to schools in which the student seeks enrollment, to agencies working under an agreement with the College, and to military recruitment services (under the Solomon Amendment.) All other information may be released only upon written permission by the student. A “Pre-authorized Emergency Information” release form is also available in Enrollment Services. A student may request that his or her directory information not be released. A full description of our practices is available in Enrollment Services.

STUDENT IDENTIFICATION Students are required to provide Everett Community College with their correct Social Security Number (Tax Identification Number). The Internal Revenue Code allows for the assessment of penalties against students who fail to provide a correct Social Security Number to the College. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in civil penalties in the amount of $50 per IRC infraction being assessed by the IRS pursuant to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Internal Revenue Code (IRC) 6050S and 6051. The purpose of this requirement is to provide for the issuance of Form 1098-T, Tuition Payments Statement. Everett Community College needs a correct Social Security Number to report the amount each student paid for qualifying tuition and fees to both the student and the IRS on Form 1098-T. The 1098-T contains information related to claiming tuition and fee deduction, the Hope Scholarship credit and/or the Lifetime Learning Credit on your taxes. See the College Catalog for further information about the use of your Social Security Number.

STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The College’s Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook contains information about Student Government, College policies and procedures and contact information. It also outlines expectations for student behavior, as well as processes for addressing conflicts, grievances, and disruptive behavior. A copy is available from the Dean of Student Development, phone 425-388-9282 or online at EverettCC.edu/StudentHandbook

STATE SUPPORT OF HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS The average cost to educate a resident full-time community or technical college student for the 2016-17 academic year is $7,524. Students pay an average of $3,056 in tuition toward this cost. The remaining $4,468 is an “opportunity pathway” provided by the State and is funded by state taxes and other sources. The amounts shown are averages for a full-time, resident student. The actual tuition a student pays will vary due to credit load, residency status and other factors.

processing software.

I can spend 10-15 hours a week on each course.

I am self-motivated, self disciplined and organized. If you answered “yes” to all of these statements, online or hybrid courses may be a good option for you. 2. Check out the eLearning webpage at EverettCC.edu/eLearning for: • Canvas Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) • Canvas Student Orientations • Technical & Web Browser Requirements

CLASS FORMATS & FEES • Online classes require no face-to-face contact between you and your instructor.

Class Cost: tuition + $2.65 per credit fee.

• Hybrid classes combine traditional face-to-face classroom time with the flexibility of online learning. Class Cost: tuition + $2.65 per credit fee. • Web Enhanced classes are face-to-face classes that require the use of Canvas or other web-based tools. Class Cost: tuition + $2.65 per credit fee. • WAOL classes are delivered fully online via the Washington State Online Consortium (WAOL). Class Cost: tuition + $2.65 per credit fee.

Look for these Class format symbols: OL = Online H = Hybrid WE = Web Enhanced ML = Online (East County) MH = Hybrid (East County)

1

Read the descriptions CAREFULLY! A lot of the classes have different fees and prerequisites for each individual section. This means that ENGL& 101 could have eight sections and two could have fees, two could be taught in a lab, and four could have different prerequisites. Don’t think that because the name of the course is the same that the same rules and fees apply every time. If a prerequisite, corequisite, or fee applies to a specific section, it will say so here and have an asterisk. It’s important to know that if there is a prerequisite, corequisite, or fee without an asterisk at the front, then it applies to EVERY section of that course. In the example shown to the left, the grade of C or higher prerequisite applies to every section, from A to C because it has no asterisk. The lab fee applies ONLY to section C because it has an asterisk.

2

Look for the fees - such as lab fees, class fees, fees per credit, studio fees, and special fees. They’ll all be listed in the description, so be aware of fees. You’re responsible for paying fees up front, and you don’t want to be surprised when you go to pay for your classes.

3

Some classes are split, like the Section C class shown to the left. The class meets in one room on some days, and in another room on other days. Split classes may meet at different times, in different places, or with different instructors. Make note of any split classes on your schedule, so you can keep track of your class.

SYMBOLS Online course. EvCC Online courses begin September 19. Online fee: tuition + $2.65 per credit. See pages 10 and 11 for more information.

Honors; a class that provides an opportunity to do honors-level coursework, which, once completed will appear on the student’s transcripts as {Course}: Honors.

The ampersand in a course number indicates it is a common course number at community colleges in Washington. Example MATH& 141. CCNidentified courses taken at one community college will be the same as those courses at another community college. ENGLISH How to Meet English/Writing Prerequisites Initial placement in pre-college-level composition courses (ENGL 097 and 098) and in English Composition I (ENGL& 101) is by assessment test scores. Entry into composition courses numbered higher than ENGL& 101 (ENGL& 102, 103, 105, or ENGL& 230) is by earning a grade of C or higher in ENGL& 101. For a weekly testing schedule, call 425-388-9288 or go to EverettCC.edu/Testing. If you have English credits from another college or university and you plan to enroll in a course that has a prerequisite (ENGL& 101, ENGL& 102, 103, 105, or ENGL& 230) you should bring a copy of your transcript and course description to the Enrollment Services Office two weeks prior to registration. Students who have English as a second language and who are not yet ready for ENGL 097 should refer to the next section for ESL 097.

LEARNING COMMUNITIES Living with Mayhem – Fall 16

HUM& 101- Introduction to the Humanities Only offered Fall quarter Explore ideas that unite and divide us. An innovative, team-taught course that focuses on great ideas and their expression through human imagination, art, music, cinema, and literature. Inexpensive textbooks.

32

FALL 2016

Flourish in a fun and supportive community of learners who will study the Earth’s mayhem (natural disasters) from a variety of perspectives, perform hands-on lab experiments, observe the evidence of these events on field trips, and connect those activities through writing and research projects. This course combines the study of the Earth-produced natural disasters (earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, landslides, floods, etc.) with the study of the dynamic process of writing effective essays. Enhance your knowledge of the Earth’s mayhem by exploring it through a variety of essay formats. And hone your writing skills by focusing on an in-depth study of the Earth.

Panthalassa: The World Ocean – Winter 17 Immerse yourself in a fun and supportive community of learners who will study the World Ocean from a variety of perspectives, perform hands-on lab experiments, observe the ocean’s processes on a weekend field trip, and connect those activities through writing and research projects. You’ll learn about seacoasts, ocean waves (including tsunamis and tides) currents, and the mysterious Coriolis Effect – even how to find a good surfing beach. And we’ll explore what every citizen should understand about the interaction between humans and the ocean in terms of historical exploration, transportation, climate, food supply, and pollution.

SMALL BUSINESS ACCELERATOR

EvCC’s Small Business Accelerator programs equip established business owners with knowledge, tools, and expert guidance necessary to significantly increase profits. How the program has benefited participants: EvCC’s premiere SBA participants have reported 68% revenue growth during the past 5 years and are also responsible for adding 108 jobs to the local area. What past participants are saying about the program: “One of the best decisions I have ever made was enrolling for the SBA program. Since then I have been committed to implementing tracking mechanisms which have helped our business steadily grow – we went from $2M/yr and are headed to $4M+ since enrolling – truly staggering results!” – Guy C. Watch a video at EverettCC.edu/Accelerator to see what other participants are saying about the program and to learn if this is the right next step for you and your business.
