Aviation Maintenance Technology Everett Community College’s Aviation Maintenance Technician School is one of about 150 schools nationwide that train airframe and powerplant mechanics. Located at Paine Field in Everett, Washington, the school has prepared students to take the FAA exams for powerplant and airframe licenses for more than 40 years. Students come from all over the world to take classes here.

About the Program In the eight-quarter, 2,040-hour program, you’ll learn about 45 subjects and work hands-on with a variety of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, including multiple turbine engines and the latest composite materials. You’ll learn to maintain and repair various turbine and reciprocating powerplant systems, including electrical, fuel, ignition and other systems vital to the safe operation of today’s airline industry. At EvCC, you can prep for your FAA Airframe and Powerplant license, get a Certificate in Aviation Technology, or earn an Associate in Technical Arts (ATA) degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology. You can also earn an Associate in Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree and complete a bachelor’s degree in Everett through Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University or Central Washington University.

Career Opportunities Demand for licensed airframe and powerplant mechanics is expected to grow over the next decade. Mean annual wages for aircraft mechanics and service technicians were $54,500 in May 2011, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. Everett Community College graduates work across the United States and the world in many areas of aviation, including helicopter repair, avionics inspection, and small aircraft restoration and as airframe and powerplant mechanics.
