ARE you cozy in your comfort zone?
I saw something today that I hadn’t seen in a very long time, which made me stop and stare. It was a photo of children at their sports day where the winning children were on a podium with 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. I can’t remember the last time I saw children allowed to properly compete at sports day! There has been a lot of debate over whether primary age children should compete; whether it is damaging to their self-esteem if they lose or character building. The simple fact is, even in races that kids have to enter
where there are no official winners or losers, the kids still know where they placed in the race and the joy or disappointment still feels the same. If a race is non-competitive, where’s the incentive to try? Competition is inevitable; it’s a part of life we can’t avoid. It can spur us on to strive to be the best we can, however for some, it’s the excuse they use to not try in the first place as “I know I won’t win so why set

myself up to fail?” We see and hear this so often in the fitness industry to which we point out - life begins at the end of your comfort zone. The Instructors aren’t judging who can stretch their leg the furthest, who can remember the whole zumba routine off by heart, or who comes to the most classes! The goal of the Instructor is to help you enjoy the class and push yourself, not compare you to the person next to you. If you continuously compete with others you become bitter, but if you continuously compete with yourself you become BETTER! So when you look in the mirror, that’s your competition. Remember, every single person who is at the top of their game in fitness or their profession had to start as a beginner so it boils down to having the courage to try. As we move premises to the ground floor of the Old Post Office on The Moor, we are flinging open our doors on a brand new Health Café. Have we run one before? No. Are we scared? Yes and excited! As Eleanor Roosevelt so eloquently said: “Do one thing every day that scares you.” Stepping out of

your comfort zone to try something new is how we learn. We are Beginners in the café business and we will learn and grow, supported by our community. If you take the plunge to try something new and see why there’s such a buzz about The Core, you will learn that we will support you and help you be the best that you can be. You set the finish line though; this is your competition, no one else’s. If that’s being able to play longer with your children in the park, being able to walk unaided without sticks, being able to fit into a new pair of trousers or slicing minutes off your track time, we have the classes, facilities and qualified Instructors to help you on your way.
Courage
We know that there is courage in numbers and teambuilding exercises help to build relationships; no wonder large organisations spend so much money on sending their employees on team building courses. This is one of the reasons our Bootcamps and GRIT small group personal training classes are so popular and effective – everyone is going through the same experience together and support each other. A long journey is made up of a series of small steps but if you don’t take the first one, you’ll never get anywhere will you? So, are you ready to step up to the start line? Just you. You can do it….

Indoor Living, Outdoor L
ANYONE casting their eyes along Kernick Road, past Asda recently may have been surprised to see a white pagoda marquee gracing the landscape…
Revitalise lanterns for summer with vibrant candles in blue or green hues
This eye-catching pagoda is home to the GardenShed, the latest addition to HomeShed, featuring all weather rattan garden furniture and gorgeous outdoor and conservatory accessories… Conservatory living comes into its own at this time of year when the changeable weather often makes it too cool for outside, but too hot to live indoors... However, creating the perfect garden room and choosing the ideal furniture and furnishings for a conservatory is no easy task, as the heat and intense sunlight will fade fabrics and can damage and warp wood furniture, making it a no-go area for valuable antiques! Consequently, conservatory blinds that are specifically designed for the unusual shaped roof windows are a key consideration when furnishing your conservatory. The most upto-date conservatory blinds can fit seamlessly into the window frame, creating a contemporary concertina effect or the incredibly popular ‘vision blinds’

which gently filter and soften daylight, whilst giving you the sun protection of a fabric blind. Once in situ, sun blinds will control the heat in the room, especially white, beige or paler hues that reflect rather than absorb heat to keep your conservatory cooler. Similarly, choosing a pale coloured natural stone, travertine, resin or ceramic floor tile will keep your floors cool to the touch - dark grey slate may be uber chic, but on a hot summer’s day can become too hot to even walk on! The Home-Shed have an extensive choice of styles of conservatory blinds and floor tiles to help you create the perfect finish for your floors and windows, plus their gorgeous

range of rugs add an extra dimension of warmth and comfort for the colder months of the year. Part of the appeal of a conservatory is the sensation of bringing the outdoors into your home… This illusion can be accentuated by the use of natural materials and plants to recreate the ideal garden room for chilling out or socialising with friends. Cane furniture was traditionally a favourite for conservatories and this has since been replaced by natural rattan made from willow or woven polyrattan due to its flexibility for indoor and outdoor use and the variety of colours and textures of weave to create different furniture styles in your room. Choosing lighter colour
upholstery fabric will minimise fading and increase the lifetime of your sofas, which can then be accessorised by brighter cushions to add colour and vibrancy to the room. Shades of blue and green enhance a conservatory, as the colours are complemented by the surrounding garden and sky. Similarly, glass top dining and coffee tables are perfect for conservatories, as they reflect the sky and contribute to the impression of space and lightness in the room. When it comes to choosing accessories for your conservatory, the magnificent lanterns and candles by Lene Bjerre at the HomeShed create instant ambiance and subtle mood lighting. We love the design of their oil burners which can be filled with citronella paraffin oil to ward off wasps and mosquitos for both indoor and outside use. If you are looking for a little inspiration in updating the look of your conservatory or to discuss your flooring or blind requirements, visit HomeShed, Kernick Road, Penryn, TR10 9EW (200m past asda) or www.home-shed.co.uk

LINGERIE FROM MISS ENGLAND!

TRACEY Cross
I WAS lucky enough to catch up with Local Business Women and Former Miss England Tracey Cross to talk about all things underwear and the opening of her new shop in Falmouth.
Situated on Church Street, the beautiful, boutique-style lingerie shop will be a great addition to our already bohemian and colourful town centre! Originally from Derbyshire, Tracey has done a variety of different jobs, including working for Virgin Atlantic as a stewardess and - thanks to her pushy dad - she even entered the world of modelling winning the Miss England title in 1988 and going on to represent England in Miss Universe. Tracey said: “I went to Taiwan for six weeks for the Miss Universe pageant, where I actually won Miss Photogenic - it was an absolute dream.” It was this career path that lead to Tracey doing TV work including being the hostess on the Price is Right! She added: “I was never tall enough to be a catwalk model, so I modelled wedding dressing, fashion and lingerie. I was never embarrassed, I loved it!” It was while Tracey was working with the Royal Marines as Miss Globe and Laurel (the Marines’ pin up) that she met husband John. She then completed a four-year stint with Virgin, before moving in with john. The couple then settled in Somerset with their two children Tom and Charlotte. Tracey said: “I loved being at home with the children; it’s what I always wanted to do. “It was while john was serving in Iraq in 2003 and the children were older that I decided to do my nursing training. I went to university got my degree and started work at Yeovil District Hospital.” Four years ago John got a transfer to Culdrose to fly search and rescue - something he has always wanted to do - so the couple moved to Falmouth where Tracey met Tracy Woodcock (of Bow Fashion and now best friend) - which is when her fortunes all changed. Tracey started working in Bow part time which soon developed to full time. Tracey said: “I love Falmouth, it’s changed my life, an

TRACEY as Miss England opportunity came up to invest in a business, which unfortunately didn’t work out, I had decided that I wanted to do something for me. “With the children all grown up it’s just John and I now. We had always thought that Falmouth is missing a lingerie shop, and it was when john and I was walking through town a few weeks ago that we saw this shop to let.”
Persuasion
She didn’t need much persuasion by John, and within a few days she had seen it, and decided she wanted it. With best friend Tracy being her mentor it’s all systems go! I went on to ask Tracey what she hopes this lovely lingerie shop will bring to the town, she said: “I will give a one to one personal service. “I want my boutique to be the place that women feel comfortable. I will stock not just comfortable, every-day lingerie, but lingerie for special occasions and for a husband/ partner to be able to buy in a comfortable surroundings. “I will be stocking a range called Nicola Jane that specialises in mastectomy and reconstructive underwear - I think coming from a nursing background I want to give this specialised service that I feel so very passionate about.” Pop in and see Tracey in her brand new boutique - she will be happy to show you her full range of lingerie.

WE see it everywhere nowadays – we’re all tending to eat too much, and the ‘wrong’ sorts of foods, we’re all getting too fat as a consequence, and things like Diabetes Type 2 are becoming increasingly common.

B cats do. Hunting is lwhat completely unrelated to feeling
And the same sort of thing is also happening in cats. We see far more cats nowadays with ‘Diabetes mellitus’ to give it its proper name, than we did even five years ago, cases which are related to feline obesity – the ‘fat cat’ syndrome! So this month I’m going to suggest some practical guidelines for keeping a highly contented cat, which maybe, just maybe, will result in a few less podgy felines!

Avoiding some common causes
Leaving aside the fact that some clinical diseases cause weight gain, cats that do very little in their homes easily gain weight, so you need to make your home as cat friendly as possible. One of the key things here, therefore, is to make sure they lead full and active lives. Now that’s not easy if you live next to a main road and you’re afraid of letting your cat outside, because hunting is
hungry, so by feeding your cat up, to try and persuade them not to catch birds and shrews and so on, or as a substitute for them not going outside, just won’t work. The cat is a solitary predator, after all, so just think about it – if you waited until you were hungry before hunting for food, and were then unsuccessful, you would probably soon get weaker and weaker and then die. So, the cat is finely tuned to the kill at all times – and when movement and sound combine to attract a cat’s attention, even the most pampered moggy will find it hard to resist the desire to pounce! Owners of house cats need to use some form of ‘prey’ substitute, or cat toys, that stimulate hunting behaviour. The old-fashioned piece of string tied to rolled up paper or tin foil, and attached to
your ankles (wear trousers!) still works really well, along with ping-pong balls rolled up and down stairs or along window ledges, making the cat jump around and generally increase their agility. Fishing rod toys are great, because they are easy for an owner to use and you can quickly get your cat to dance around on their hind legs(!) – the ‘prey’ is small, and moves both rapidly and unpredictably up and down and from side to side – irresistible to a cat! Pampas grass is also good to use – different textures, swishing noises and lots of strange movements. And laser dots are great for moving around on the walls, up and down stairs and outside in the dark – and don’t worry, there’s no chance of an animal getting blinded by one of these, so ophthalmologists suggest! Scratching posts are also useful things making cats exercise, particularly tall posts, which make the cat scratch at full stretch, and you can get them that have toys dangling off at cat eye height... Of course the downside is that your cat might just take to scratching your brand new leather sofa... or in my case at home, one of the legs of our dining table is about half the thickness that it was due to the attention of various

Sleeping
Now most owners don’t consider that this is a problem for their cats, and officially, cats should sleep from around 12 to 18 hours per day – good eh?! But, what you may not have considered is that cats like to find their own places to sleep, with a combination of privacy, warmth, and of course being well off the
F
c Ltd
floor, being the business. I’ve met lots of cat owners who have invested in what are absolutely sumptuous cat beds – ‘the best that Harrods could supply’ I was told by one lady I remember! – yet the cat takes one look at them, turns up its nose in the way only a cat can, looks at you with the expression ‘get real’ and then goes and sleeps on the sofa! Cats need to feel in control of their lives, and they will often move
from one favoured place to another – which behaviour is thought to be related to parasite control in the wild. After all, if you change sleeping spots every so often, you’re not going to re-contaminate yourself with parasites. Cats are so wised up aren’t they? So, if your cat sleeps where it wishes, and has the choice of several locations, then it’s going to feel not only in control of its life, but also more content – and will therefore tend NOT to overeat. Anxious and unsettled cats frequently will, or they’ll be fed extra by their owners because they are restless / will not settle / constantly miaowing for attention, and so they start to gain weight. By paying attention to the behavioural needs of your cat you really can have an influence on trying to maximize their exercise and stimulating their normal selfcontrol on the amounts they eat. The message is simple: hunting / playing / sleeping leads to happy and contented cats. Stressed / bored / insomniac cats eat more, do less, and their health deteriorates. So if you have any queries over your cat’s behaviour or their eating habits, then talk to your vets: it may be that there is a genuine physical health problem, but it could equally be a sign that all is not well in their world, and they’re doing the cat equivalent of what we do when we’re stressed – we eat cake!

Thanks to your team for the lovely welcome each time I visited and you for understanding and caring chair side manner
AT Changing Faces Cornwall we pride ourselves in offering a unique experience to all our patients from the beginning to the end of their treatment with us. Here is an insight into the reasons why we are so different.
We like to make all our patients feel comfortable in our clinic, which is set in a discreet, rural location on the out skirts of St Agnes. We offer all our patients a free initial consultation with Clinical Dental Technician Martin Docking where, over a coffee, he will discuss the different treatments available for your individual dental situation, leaving you fully informed about all your options and under no obligation. We understand that it often takes a lot of courage to take the first step and make the initial phone call to arrange an appointment with us as many patients are embarrassed about their current dental situation – although there is no need to be. We see lots of patients who have been wearing ill-fitting, uncomfortable or unsightly dentures for years and have been unaware there is an alternative. We care and understand how this can affect lives, making it difficult to eat, speak and laugh with confidence which can often result in low selfesteem. When our patients go ahead with treatment they are confident that Martin has listened to their individual needs and understand the treatment process. Then over a series of appointments Martin will make their bespoke dentures in his onsite laboratory. During the course of treatment we get to know our patients very well and it’s great to see their growing anticipation as we near completion. Patients leave us full of confidence and wearing a huge smile, it is fantastic and a pleasure to see. So, if you are one of the many full or partial denture wearers who are suffering with problematic dentures, please call me to make your free, no obligation appointment and let us help you get your smile back. GAME REVIEW
By Stan of Stan’s Games
MURDERED XBox1 XBox360, PS3 + PS4 I have over ordered on this game, you play a role of a person that’s been murdered and you have to set out to find your killer, there is also an evil element to it where you have to keep hiding from bad demons, but it soon bores, this is one game I will be reducing soon. 3/10 KIRBY TRIPLE DELUXE 3DS Playing as Kirby is kind of like playing as Superman foiling common bank robbers. He can swap between 26 useful and diverse abilities by copying them from his foes. Mini-bosses step in and attempt to add a tougher challenge, but adding more hit points doesn’t really matter if they can’t really hurt you, found the game great but very easy , ideal for kids. 6/10

SNIPER ELITE 3 XBox1 XBox360, PS3, PS4 + PC COMING SOON: Sniper Elite 3 sees American OSS agent Karl Fairburne on assignment in North Africa during WWII to assist intelligence efforts and provide sharpshooter skills to allied forces within exotic, rugged and open land. As part of his mission, Karl learns of a secret ‘wonder weapon’ tank programme which, should it become a reality, has the potential to crush any allied force in its path and turn the tide of the war. With an emphasis on player choice, the game features nonlinear gameplay across varied North African terrain, allowing for a greater range of motion and the ability to take longer-ranged shots with customisable weapons. An allnew vehicle kill-cam lets gamers take out armoured cars and tanks and wreak massive destruction with one shot. Score?
THE LURE OF A FISHING ADVENTURE

WHEN you first meet Nick Mackrory, you quickly realise he is the kind of affable chap you could spend plenty of time with while listening to his profound knowledge of one of the most enviable form of fishing, that is lure fishing for that most elusive of targets, the sea bass. Nick has been fishing for more than 35 years and now fishes every day for work and pleasure. He has turned his passion into a business, developed his own bass belt and plug rack and also become an affiliate guide for Bass Lures UK,Top Water Lures and for his own company, Bass Go Deeper. Whether from the shore or on Nick’s new addition, Silver Bar, a specialised chartered boat, he will arm you with knowledge of watercraft, lure and equipment and show you some of the places to look out for when in pursuit of the elusive bass. There is no better form of sea angling where your senses are stimulated and taken to the realms of utter excitement when the bass crashes into your lure.

The rod will often be nearly wrenched from your hands, you will see a swirl and water break as the fish attempts to break free from the battle of hunter and prey. With prices starting from £60 you may consider this to be somewhat expensive when comparing to other trips on offer. However, many trips involve several people on a boat being taken to a remote fishing mark with no vista to remember the day by. The skipper often ties on the desired bait, you reel in and haul your catch over the side of the boat before the skipper once again takes over in preparation of you repeating the action. You come away from these trips often proud of your catch but also knowing that this type of fishing is unavailable to the shore based angler. After spending time with Nick, you come away with: an understanding of the tide and weather conditions to look for; the ability to cast and work a fishing lure; a knowledge of the likely habitats of your desired prey; and an understanding of the colours
and patterns of the many available lures you should choose to maximise your chances of experiencing the thrill of the catch. It is very much a hands-on experience and avid attention is paid to each and every angler, you can be in very a small group of have individual tuition. The boat also visits many of the remote coves and drifts amid the clear blue waters that surround Cornwall’s magnificent coastline. Ask the average bass fisherman how much time they would have spent in shops buying and browsing at the different tackle and lures on offer, buying books and DVDs on

the art, travelling round searching for possible hunting grounds and each and every response will bring you to the understanding that years are spent trying to gain a small amount of knowledge for this most addictive of pursuits. In just 4 hours with Nick you can gather the type of information most take years to collate and trust me; stories of fishermen having a life time of fishing without ever hitting into a bass are commonplace. His guiding service caters to all styles of lure and fly fishing.Your fishing time can be spent off shore, on Silver bar or, if you prefer, on land and don’t worry if you can’t get the time off work, Nick runs evening sessions that start from 6pm and cost just £45. One thing’s for sure, you will come away with a far greater knowledge of all aspects of the sport including a greater understanding of predator species, such as bass, pollock and wrasse and there is a good chance you can put all of this to good use by hooking into a number of fish. All trips are coded to MCA standards Cat VI and fully equipped with the latest safety equipment. You can book tuition with Nick or purchase one of his uniquely designed bass belts by visiting his website, www.bassgodeeper.net or email sales@bassgodeeper.net.

The demand for rental properties is sky high SO far this year since Popular opening in February we So what are these have received numerous enquiries from prospective prospective tenants looking tenants! for?
These enquiries mostly come from the main websites we use (Belvoir and Rightmove), via email or telephone and from people just simply calling in to our office. As I am sure you are already aware, the economy appears to be improving following the recession, however it is welldocumented that people are struggling to get onto the property ladder. This, therefore, has resulted in an influx of potential tenants who are registering their details with us seeking properties to rent. Some of these applicants are moving to the area to take up new job opportunities, some are just looking to move on to a larger home than the one they rent now and others are just starting out and want to leave home. The only problem is... we need more properties! The year so far has seen many available properties let within the first week of becoming available! In some cases there have been multiple applicants wanting the same property! If you are looking to purchase a buy-to-let property or would like to increase your property portfolio then now may be the time to do it!
From looking at the data collected from people registering with us we have found that they are vastly looking for;

w WE can’t believe it’s our second anniversary, so much has happened since we opened on the 30th June 2012.We still just love being here and are so pleased and proud to have chosen Falmouth to open Bow.
k
The shop opened after two months of me fitting out the interior, and both Tracy and I were very nervous, not only were we changing our jobs, we had moved 400 miles and we were going to be working together seven days a week! We needn’t have worried though, we can both still remember that first day – the shop was buzzing all day and we didn’t actually get to speak to each other until 5.45pm as there was always someone in the shop. Since that day we have continued to work hard to create a shop that Falmouth can be proud of, and have tried to make it a destination shop for everyone living in Cornwall. In May last year I started to fit out the upstairs to create our leather bag and Wedding Hat showroom, which was completed in August. Air-conditioning was fitted at this time to the delight of us all. However, while this was all going

on the shop next door became available, which meant I couldn’t hang up my work boots just yet! This was another big challenge and difficult decisions needed to be made, but after months of yet more hard labour and very late nights, we eventually managed to open in the run up to Christmas, and, finally I could hang up my work boots! January 2014 brought an influx of people to the shop for wedding hats and fascinators.Tracy’s unique personal approach to making sure every hat matched the customers’ requirements exactly saw us needing to expand the hat department. So we moved all our bags and purses including the leather bags into the second shop, to make a one stop shop for anything baglike – this made room upstairs to have even more hats, fascinators, clutch bags. We‘ve also now added a range of shoes that can be dyed to match any outfit. Our range of scarves and jewellery has stayed in the original shop along with the lovely range of gifts for every occasion; the plaques that have everyone laughing all day long and a lovely selection of cards are now in the original shop. All in all it seems a lot better and the feedback so far has been amazing.

Summer is upon us - let’s get outside! Top 10 July gardening tips
THIS is often one of the hottest months of the year and a great time to sit out and enjoy your garden. Keep plants looking good by regularly dead-heading, and you’ll enjoy a longer display of blooms. Make sure you keep new plants well watered, using grey water where possible, and hoe off weeds, which thrive in the sunshine.. Top 10 jobs this month • Check clematis for signs of wilt • Place conservatory plants outside now
• Water tubs and new plants if dry • Deadhead bedding plants and repeat-flowering perennials, to ensure continuous flowering • Pick courgettes before they become marrows • Treat apple scab • Clear algae, blanket weeds and debris from ponds, and keep topped up • Order catalogues for next year’s spring bulbs • Give the lawn a quickacting summer feed • Give woodwork a lick of paint or preserver, while the weather is dry
3 ways 2...
reduce weeds naturally
1. Newspaper: A carpet of newspaper, which blocks sunlight and oxygen from reaching the soil, will smother weeds already sprouted and prevent new ones from growing.Throw down newspaper in 10-sheet layers, wet to hold it down, and cover with an inch or two of mulch. If weeds begin to grow in the mulch, add more layers, making a mulch-newspaper lasagna, which eventually will decompose and nourish the soil 2. Vodka: Don’t know if vodka makes weeds fall down dead or drunk, but 1 ounce mixed with 2 cups of water and a couple of drops of dish soap will dry out weeds that live in the sun. Doesn’t work that well on shade-loving weeds. Protect desirables, because vodka will dry them out 3. Boiling water: After you’ve made yourself a cup of tea, take the kettle outside and pour the boiling water on weeds, which will burn up.This is a particularly good way to whack driveway and walkway weeds, because the boiling water can run off impervious surfaces and cool before it reaches border plants

Have you got brake judder? Let us sort it out with the new Pro-Cut on car brake lathe. How it works! The Pro-Cut lathe works on the vehicle, by attaching itself directly to the hub. The technology includes an automatic, electronically controlled, gyroscope system which measures run-out in the hub and corrects for this to an accuracy of better than 0.05mm. The automatic surface machining of a disc is completed in around 4
minutes. The complete process takes less then 9 minutes per disc.
Tyres: We keep thousands of tyres in stock. If we don’t have what you need we can usually obtain it for next day.
Wheel Alignment We use a John Bean 3D Visualiner that is second to none for setting up the geometry on cars. Whether it’s just the tracking or all the angles on the car that need adjusting, this machine is proven to be one of the most accurate on the market.
Other Services Puncture Repair, Wheel Balancing.
We don’t just fit tyres! We also do EBC Brakes for performance & standard cars. We have a comprehensive stock with hundreds of part numbers available off the shelf.
Exide Batteries For cars, boats and commercial applications.
Alloy Wheels many available from stock and most makes available next day.
