vegeTABLE’s mission is happiness and health through food. Globally-inspired vegetarian dishes prepared using local organic ingredients support the health and sustainability of people and the planet. Find happiness by enjoying food and drink in a fresh escape from everyday life.
D E S I G N CON CE P T
vegeTABLE’s design draws inspiration from the North Loop’s lumber and grain milling history and from the restaurant’s mission. Original brick walls, wood columns, and exposed ceilings highlight the structural integrity of the host warehouse, constructed in 1885. Wood, much of it reclaimed, honors a once prized commodity. Metal and stone also harken back to the city’s industrial past. Natural light, lush foliage, and the color green reflect the transparency of vegeTABLE’s commitment to sustainable food practices. The greenhouse grows connections between the eater and the food and between guests, resulting in fulfilling and memorable experiences.

Shorewood Hills - Madison, WI
The UW Credit Union E-Commerce Center redesign is inspired by State Street, a bustling pedestrian mall located in the heart of Madison, WI. The space’s functions are allocated using urban planning blocks and intersections. Four blocks of open workstations, separated in half by a central block of private offices and rooms, accommodate individual work. Intersections, including the work cafe, ideation center, breakout zones, and walkstations foster group work, respite, and social interaction. Material selections complement the credit union’s established brand while giving the e-commerce center a contemporary urban identity. Ultimately, the design of UWCU creates a uniquely spirited work environment where employees feel supported and valued.

“Pioneer Square” Historic Neighborhood - Seattle, WA
D E S I G N CON CE P T
Inspired by the geography of its namesake, Isthmus Hotel (representing a narrow strip of land) links visitors and locals (representing two larger bodies of land) together and with Seattle’s vibrant culture. Housed in the Globe Building constructed in 1891, historic architecture meets contemporary furnishings in a color palette plucked from Seattle’s geographic location. Boasting relaxing suites, welcoming public spaces, and the best coffee and brunch in Pioneer Square, Isthmus is the perfect man-made landmark to naturally form new connections and lasting memories.

Adaptive Reuse Design

University of Wisconsin - Madison
The vision for the historic Horse Barn is to transform it into an adaptive public and residential reuse building that allows international faculty, scholars, and artists to live semi-permanently and work at the university. Universal Design principles embrace the needs of each and every user. An eclectic style pays homage to the barn’s heritage, while integrating the design aesthetics of all visitors. Wood and Cream City brick repurposed from the barn combines with mid-century and exotic furnishings. Vintage inspired plumbing and lighting fixtures add a whimsical touch. The Horse Barn is anyone’s home away from home for a single day or for multiple months.

4 Weeks - Summer Term 2016
A University of Wisconsin - Madison Design Studies program gave me the opportunity to study abroad in China. I gained an understanding of public health, well-being, and traditional design through site visits, lectures by program leader Professor Wei Dong, and conversations with local experts in their respective fields. By experiencing the culture firsthand, I gained new perspectives that will forever impact my life and design work.

3 Weeks - Winter Term 2016
Another Design Studies program through the University of Wisconsin - Madison allowed me to spend a winter break visiting remote villages in Kenya. I learned about sustainable agriculture and food security in Tumutumu and Machackos. I advocated for the dissemination of health education and support in Gatunga. By living with host families, I fully immersed myself in Kenyans’ daily routines and culture. My time in Kenya further expanded my understanding of the world.
