Fine dining comes to Higham Ferrers By Martin Howard The food was described to me as English with a twist, what’s that? Different plates and table settings? If you want to know that then you really do need to experience the food at the recently refurbished Carriage House in Higham Ferrers, situated adjacent to the Market Square this imposing building compromises of a gin cocktail bar, a much larger bar at the rear and then real the gems are upstairs.

A restaurant with over 60 covers and a private dining room for special functions all decorated and furnished in a traditional style. My guest and I booked our table for early evening and were getting a little peckish to say the least by the time we sat down, the menu looks very intriguing. I started with black pudding scotch eggs and my partner with asparagus and goats cheese. These both arrived promptly and were a joy. The Scotch eggs shell was a crispy coating of sausage meat containing an inner layer of black pudding with a slightly runny egg, really good. Also on the menu was a tempura soft shell crab with apple and celariac sauce, another option was grilled avocado with cured salmon, there were another three starters to choose from. For the main course we were spoilt for choice with eight possibilities
on the menu and a few more on the specials board. I plumped for the tomahawk porkchop, more like the size of the felling axe, it was huge. The meat was so tender, I struggled to eat it all. Accompanied by smoked creamed potato, roast apple and red wine braised leak. English with a twist! Across the table my guest chose the onglet steak which was cooked exactly to her taste! Sweet or cheeseboard, no way could I manage both. So we both chose to go with the sweet, although the cheeseboard was extremely tempting, next time. My roast peaches were delightful and the lemon mousse and aerated white chocolate with lavender meringue dish also seem to have hit the right note. Three absolutely excellent courses all for under £30 excluding drinks, considering the quality of the food is a great deal. With excellent service from the waiting staff it’s fair to say fine dining has arrived in Higham Ferrers.

The Many Voices Of Shenton Dixon 16
Shenton Dixon is a tribute artist for Barry White as well as Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Louis Armstrong and also sounds very much like Edwin Starr in his natural voice. He is originally from Leicester in the Midlands and is the oldest child to his parents who are both gospel ministers. From an early age of just three he gave his first live performance reciting a poem to his mother wrote as follows. “I’m just a little boy not many feet tall but my saviour speaks to great and speaks the same to small.
He expressed a keen interest in playing a musical instrument and started to play the guitar live at his parent’s church aged just nine along with his brother and three sisters. The young siblings formed the gospel group called The Dixons where they played their own instruments and sang close harmony together and continued in the group playing numerous concerts in the hometown and around the country. At 12 years of age he played his first ever secular gig with a local reggae band. Shenton played in various local bands after leaving school where he honed his skills further on both electric and bass guitar although he always ended up as the lead singer. Shenton tried his hand at various trades before making a conscious decision to go back to college with a view to attending drama school. Towards the end of his first year he saw an advertisement in the stage magazine seeking actors who could play an instrument. Shenton decided to go to London just to get some audition experience in lieu of going to drama school but to his amazement got off the part by the director Rob Bettison. To that end, Shenton was the original performer at the Apollo theatre in the worldwide smash hit musical Buddy. The producers were so impressed with his performance and, due to public demand, they extended the part to include the song “I’m gonna party” which he co-wrote. Shenton was also featured in the original Tamla Motown musical Dancing In The Street playing alongside the late great Edwin Starr. Appearing virtually everywhere throughout the UK as well as various locations throughout Europe, such was the quality of his performance, he headlined the show on several occasions and was critically acclaimed with outstanding reviews. Shenton is an accomplished piano player and guitarist and has been the musical director for several gospel choirs and even had his own radio show on FUR FM where his skill and “radio voice” was cultivated. Shenton was featured on Radio One’s breakfast show with Zoe Ball performing as the king of rock ‘n’ roll, Elis Presley, live to the nation.
The Events On Magazine
The listeners had to guess what was different about this king of rock ‘n’ roll. He also featured on radio FCUK as guest presenter Louis Armstrong and not only that Shenton is also the voice behind the VO5 commercial singing jeepers creepers as well as having played Elvis Presley in the Dry Blackthorn cider national TV campaign commercial. As if this was not enough for Shenton Dixon, he has also made quite few TV appearances in various gameshows as well as having taken on the more serious roles in popular programmes such as Miss Marple as well as the dating programme take me out with Paddy McGuinness. Shenton Dixon was also featured in the Ashley Banjo’s Sky One programme as a body popper dancer and also succeeded in auditioning on the BBC programme voice on 15 February 2014. Also, for you soap fans, you might recognise Shenton from his appearance as Mo Harris’s fiancé Fat Elvis in Eastenders in May 2015. Shenton brings his “Legends of Soul Show” just over the county border in Warwickshire in early September. See advertisement opposite for full details.
