MUSLIM IN BALI Islam is estimated entered Gelgel Klungkung the ďŹ rst time, under the administration of king Raja Dalem Watutenggong (1460). And then continuously Islam entered Buleleng, Jembrana, Karangasem, Badung, Tabanan and Bangli with its own history. The acceptance of Islam believers was not apart from the role of the kings governing at that time, who give protection to their people including Moslem believers. This harmonious relationship created a term nyama Bali Info Resto Halal

selam (Islam family) like the King of Pemecutan Badung who gave an area which is now known as Islam village of Kepaon (Kampung Islam Kepaon). All the Islam family (nyama selam) were also involved in all activities of the castle (puri). Other areas in Bali also record ‘kind character of the authority who gave them place to the Moslem people like Pahayangan (Buleleng), Islam village of Karangasem, and Loloan ( Jembrana).

Moslem believers and the local people interact intensively building understanding, accept and appreciate each other therefore the assimilation process and culture acculturation take place with the religion as a background. The product of the culture existing now can colorize the treasury of Balinese culture. This can be seen from the cultural tradition in Moslem center such as Pagayaman (Buleleng) using the Balinese name like Wayan Rauf, Ketut Syahruwardi Abbas, Made Jakfar, and many other. Islam believers in Bali is inseparable part from the structure of Balinese community which have existed since the ďŹ fteenth century. The teaching of the prophet of Mohhamad SAW was brought thought the activities of trade, treatment (physician), as the cook of the castle, and other profession from Java, Bugis, Madura and other parts of Indonesia. Islam can grow in Bali because of the process is persuasive and humanist therefore so it is accepted well by the local people. Now there are 255 mosque, 162 langgars (small mosque) and 237 musolla in Bali. Most of these house of worships exist in the city of Denpasar, Jembrana Regency, and Buleleng Regency. Beside that Bali has 141 Scholar of Islam, 938 mosgue khotib oďŹƒcial, and 451 Islam preacher who work in 9 regency/towns.
