o you remember last Christmas? In our hustle-and-bustle world, even last week can be a blur. However, there are thousands of people throughout the world who will never forget last Christmas, because that’s when they received the most amazing gift of their lives — and it was delivered right to their door. It was the gift of hope and salvation presented by Every Home for Christ workers participating in our annual Christmas Outreaches. These special events always impact more lives with the Gospel than any other events we do all year, and last year was no exception. On the pages that follow, we bring you some of the amazing stories we received from our workers in the field. A Venezuelan couple found faith in the midst of grief after God protected their son
from kidnapping (p. 4). When people experience Scripture in their own language, God stops being a “Western God” and becomes a God of their own people (p. 8). You’ll also discover the powerful impact the printed word had over a belligerent man in Rwanda (p. 12) and how a young gang leader seeking vengeance for the murder of his parents was led to Jesus (p. 14). At the end of each story, we’ll present you with opportunities to help provide our global workers with the materials they need to reach more of the lost for Christ. Before you turn the page, will you ask God to impress upon your heart a specific need or two that you can help us meet? With your help, this could be the best Christmas thousands will ever have! Merry Christmas!

EHC workers passionately pray for breakthrough.

hen the Every Home for Christ Venezuela worker first visited the Ferrer family, they were in deep mourning. Their eldest daughter had just died of a stomach tumor, and now their second daughter had one, too. “God does not exist,” their mother, Mirtha, sobbed. Her husband, Teodoro, also refused to listen to anything V E N E Z U E L A the outreach worker said about the comforting love of Jesus. God? Love? His daughter was dead, and it looked as though the other would soon be as well. The grieving father would have none of it. However, their third child, 7-year-old Freddy, took it all in, desperately wanting to believe that there is a God and that His love is real. Before leaving the Ferrers’ home, the outreach worker prayed for them, asking God for a miracle for their daughter as a sign of His love for them. Several days later, while Teodoro was at work and his wife and daughter were at the doctor, young Freddy was home alone. At about 1:30 that afternoon, Freddy was startled by the sound of someone breaking into the house. Terrified, he ran to a back bedroom and hid under the bed. Remembering what 4

the EHC worker had said about God’s love, Freddy began to pray over and over, “God, please save me, and don’t let my father come home and get hurt.” From his hiding place under the bed, Freddy could hear the criminals enter the bedroom. He saw their feet as they walked around the bed. “Find the boy!” one muttered. “He has to be here somewhere!” Realizing they were looking for him to kidnap him, Freddy once again prayed, “God, please save me, and don’t let my father come home and get hurt.” Hours later, Freddy was awakened by his father’s voice. Teodoro had come home and found the house broken into. Afraid for his son, Teodoro desperately called out his name. Freddy crawled
out from under the bed, gave his father a hug and said, “Daddy, God took care of me, and I was not afraid.” Shaken, but eternally grateful, Teodoro went to the house of the EHC worker, told her what had happened and asked her to help him give his life to Christ. Freddy begged his mother and father to let him go to the church the EHC worker attended so he could learn more about God’s love. Every Sunday morning, he’d get himself up and dressed, and then walk around his neighborhood inviting the other children to go to church with him. Though his parents didn’t go with him at first, they noticed their son had become a different child after attending the church, and they decided to attend, too. As for their daughter’s stomach pain — that was the second miracle. Her medical tests came back clear. She’s in perfect health. The Ferrer family is one of thousands around the world who experienced a Christmas miracle because EHC workers came to their home and asked God to reveal His love. Can it get any better than that? Yes. They’re doing it again this year.
Christmas Outreaches At this very moment, all over the world, hurting families like the Ferrers are hearing for the very first time that God has not forgotten them. Would you like to be part of that miracle? You can support EHC Christmas Outreaches found on page 10. The Ferrer family outside their home in Venezuela — Teodoro, Freddy and Mirtha.

hristmas has the ability to unite complete strangers. No matter our backgrounds, we’ve all shared in some universal yuletide experiences, like buying gifts for loved ones, putting up festive decorations and settling in to watch a favorite Christmas movie. In the midst of these activities, there’s another universal experience highlighted each Christmas, and that’s our need for Jesus. No matter what our
backgrounds, none of us can find meaning for our lives or hope for our souls apart from Him. And we want to help you share Him with others this Christmas. Every Home for Christ USA is launching the first EHC Christmas Outreach in the United States, and we have developed three Christmas-themed gospel messages, called Engagers, to help you share the Good News with your neighbors.
It’s a Wonderful Life
The Perfect Gift
O Holy Light
This Engager ushers in the holiday season with warm nostalgia as it parallels the classic Christmas movie It’s a Wonderful Life with the shortcomings of our own lives. Showing Christ as the only pathway to a truly wonderful life, it references meaningful moments from the movie and relates them to our personal existence.
Playfully noting the merry tradition of giving Christmas gifts, this Engager gently directs readers away from the notion of a “perfect Christmas gift” and toward the One who is the perfect gift.
Among all the Christmas pomp and circumstance, you sometimes stumble upon a peaceful scene of wise men, shepherds and a young couple gazing at a newborn in a manger, causing some to wonder, “Who is that baby in my neighbor’s yard?”
We want to invite you and your church to join thousands of believers around the globe who are sharing the Gospel through EHC Christmas Outreaches this year. All three of these Engagers are available in folded batches of 25 to equip you to reach your neighborhood, or in flat batches of 500 to allow your church to add its contact information before sharing. Order your Christmas Engagers at www.everyhomeusa.com 6
This Christmas, you can share the greatest Gift of all — Jesus — with your community. We will provide heartwarming Christmas Engagers to help you share the Gospel and invite your neighbors to a Christmas service. Get involved and get your church involved. It may be your favorite part of this Christmas season! Learn more: www.everyhomeusa.com | 1-800-423-5054 7

I
n my almost 20 years of full-time ministry, I have witnessed the power of the Word of God to change lives, save marriages, rehabilitate drug addicts and elevate people who have been alienated. These lives on the brink of death were transformed by joy, peace and hope in Christ. I’ve also witnessed how new believers see the Bible as a unique treasure. Having entered into a new relationship with Christ, nothing else is of greater importance to the lives of new believers than the Bible. It nurtures them into spiritual maturity, gives new insights into who God is and speaks to them in their own “heart language.” Giving Bibles to new believers in their own tongue is like giving gold to a beggar in the streets. When they read about God in the same words they use at home with their families, He is no longer a far-off, impersonal or foreign God but one who identifies with them, understands their situations and gives them direction for their problems. He becomes their own God, and they feel comfortable relating to Him. God is not distant and punishing of wrongdoing, as they once believed, but near like a close friend. This completely transforms their perspective of who God is, which transforms their relationship with Him and their lives as well. I remember a situation in Papua New Guinea when
some Christian workers played a recording of the Gospel in the language of an illiterate people group that had never been exposed to the Good News. One of the community elders wept as the recording played and remarked, “So, God speaks our language!” This proved to him that God must know them, and He must care deeply for them to visit and tell them what He has in mind for them. This is the power of God’s Word in a people’s own language. Lasting transformation doesn’t take place in a person’s life or in a society until people have an encounter with God and come to an understanding of what God’s Word says about their experiences. A Bible they can read introduces them to God’s thoughts about trauma, suffering and death and opens their minds to learn more about His grace, forgiveness and salvation. This is the unique role the Bible plays. It provides answers to people’s questions about their origin, identity, purpose in life and destiny. Carl Henry, Christianity Today’s first editor, once said, “The Gospel is only good news when it arrives on time.” We have the gospel workers ready to go and the networks in place to deliver Bibles to new believers. All we need is the support of people like you who care. By helping Every Home for Christ provide Bibles to those who need them, we work together to change people, societies and nations for Christ.
Bibles The need for Bibles is great, and we can meet that need together. Today, roughly 80 percent of the people who come to Christ through our ministry do not have immediate access to a Bible in their own language. That can all change with your help. By giving today, you can help provide Bibles to new believers who are thirsting to read God’s Word for themselves. To find out more, go to page 10.

e put things in our pockets every day without thinking: loose change, business cards, gum wrappers. We never consider that an item we drop in might have a transformative effect on our lives, but that was the case for Hakiziyaremye Vianney. Vianney was selling goats and sheep in Rwanda’s crowded Rugarama street market when he noticed a sudden burst of activity. People were fighting to receive booklets from a group of EHC evangelists. Curious, Vianney took one and glanced at it before absentmindedly slipping it into his pocket. “He was a drunkard and was beating his wife every day,” says Ananie Bagaragaza, the EHC National Director of Rwanda. “He wasn’t interested in hearing the Gospel.” When Vianney came home that night, he emptied his pockets and didn’t even notice the gospel booklet, The Way to God, drop onto the table. Propping up his feet to relax, he asked his wife, Everyne, to bring him a glass of water.
DECEMBER 2016
When Everyne didn’t respond, he looked up, irritated that he had been ignored. To his surprise, she was coming toward him slowly, carrying a glass of water in one hand and reading the gospel booklet with the other. “The content of the whole booklet pleased her,” Ananie says, “but the message on page 43, where it said Jesus is the only way to God, deeply penetrated her heart.” Annoyed that a piece of paper had stolen Everyne’s attention from him, Vianney stormed off to a bar. When he returned hours later, Everyne was still reading the gospel booklet. At that point, Vianney’s annoyance turned to curiosity, and he asked to read the booklet for himself. “After reading, I thought immediately of God and my death,” Vianney says. “That night, I had a dream.” In Vianney’s dream, he was on the verge of death and surrounded by a crowd of people. With cruel laughter, they told him that, because he had rejected Jesus, it was too late for him to receive salvation. Desperation
and regret washed over Vianney. Suddenly, a tall, strong man emerged from the crowd and had R W A N D A compassion on him. This man told Vianney that it wasn’t too late. When Vianney shared his dream with Everyne the next morning, she was thankful that God had used it to reach her husband. They immediately went to a Christian church near their village, and the pastor prayed with them. The couple accepted Christ, and it wasn’t long before their entire family of eight was saved. “The amazing thing is that they were baptized together,” says Ananie. “On Christmas Eve, they were both baptized.” Today, Vianney and Everyne’s marriage is transformed. They are being discipled by a pastor, and they regularly volunteer in EHC home-to-home evangelism. Everywhere Vianney goes, he carries a pocketful of gospel booklets to share with others whenever he has the chance. “Now, I and all my family are baptized and have Jesus as our Savior,” Vianney says. “It is all because of a gospel booklet. Praise God!”
Gospel Literature Entire lives can be changed by a gospel message small enough to fit in your pocket. Just one piece of literature can reach an entire household, sometimes even months after it was first received. There is power in the printed word. Will you give today to help us print and share the Good News of Jesus? To find out more, go to page 11.

e knew exactly where his need for violence came from. Miguel was just a boy when the bodies of his parents were dumped into an unmarked grave. He would never forget that moment, and over time, the horror of it all turned into overwhelming grief — then into anger so deep it consumed him. Miguel held everyone in his A N G community responsible for his trauma and loss. The civil war was over, but clearly, the violence was not. Miguel vowed that, as soon as he was old enough, he would avenge the deaths of his parents. With a heart as cold as stone, he began formulating his plan. He organized a gang, a ravenous group that terrorized the community like a pack of hungry wolves. To be sure that none of the members would betray him, Miguel demanded their loyalty with a blood covenant. If any of them ever tried to leave, they would be hunted down and executed to protect the identities of the rest. The notorious Vipers operated under the cover of darkness, breaking into homes and abusing their victims before stealing their possessions and selling the loot. No one ever suspected Miguel was their leader. He was known as a respectful young man. Every Home for Christ Angola workers met Miguel while holding an evangelistic outreach in his community. After hearing their presentation of the Gospel, Miguel admitted that he was tired of the violence and the miserable life he was living. He divulged his involvement with the Vipers and the atrocities they’d committed.
When he heard that even he could be forgiven and his hate-filled heart made new, Miguel tearfully repented of his sins and surrendered his life to Jesus. Miguel didn’t tell the Vipers about his decision, fearing they would act on the covenant he enforced. But he secretly started attending an EHC Christ Group, where he learned what it really means to O L A be a Christian. When he realized he could no longer be associated with the Vipers or any other part of his former life, Miguel asked his Christ Group leaders to pray for two things: that he would find the courage to tell the gang he wanted out, and that the Vipers could be dismantled without bloodshed. Then he asked for a few pieces of gospel literature so he could begin sharing the Gospel with each gang member when the others weren’t around. Miguel’s first request was answered when three of the eight Vipers — including the two most feared — surrendered their lives to Jesus. His second request was also answered when he and the other three believing Vipers were allowed to leave the group without repercussion. The remaining gang members continued committing crimes until they were discovered by the police. One of them was killed in a shootout. The other four went to prison. Miguel and the three who accepted Christ often visit their incarcerated friends and share the Gospel with them. Miguel is praying that they, too, will grow tired of their sinful ways and find redemption in Jesus Christ.
Global Outreaches One home at a time, Every Home for Christ has impacted more than 1.8 BILLION households with the Gospel. More than 173 MILLION lost souls have responded — that we know of. Many of those who respond have become active evangelizers themselves, multiplying those numbers many times over. Face-to-face, personal evangelism works; just ask the members of the Viper gang whose lives were radically changed. To learn how to help support life-changing EHC Global Outreaches, go to page 11.

Making gifts from your IRA can be a great blessing for you and for those who need to hear about Jesus around the world.
Planned Giving AD
Congress has made the IRA Charitable Rollover permanent. If you are 70.5 years old or older, this change to the law has many potential benefits for you and your family: • You can make charitable donations from your IRA to a qualified charity, like Every Home for Christ, without recognizing the distribution as income. • Instead of receiving a charitable deduction for your gift, your distribution will not be added to your adjusted gross income for federal tax purposes. This can bring other tax benefits, too, depending on your particular circumstances. • You can give up to $100,000 total from your IRAs each year, and it counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
