EVERYMAN THEATRE G RE AT STO R I E S, WE LL TO L D.
JOIN US FOR A SEASON OF LAUGHTER AND DISCOVERY For our 25th anniversary last season, we looked back at some of the great American classics and playwrights who shaped modern drama and paved the way for the playwrights of today. Throughout the year, I’ve been traveling the country and discovering new voices in the American theatre to feature in our 2016-17 Season. I’m so proud to present to you some of the hottest new plays from acclaimed artists like Michael John LaChiusa, Colman Domingo and Jen Silverman. These plays are exciting and varied, including Los Otros, Everyman’s first commissioning of a reimagined musical by a team of Tony Award nominees. Dot and The Roommate are two funny and poignant works that took the Humana Festival of New American Plays by storm. There are classics, too. I found a brisk and dynamic adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. You’ll likely sit on the edge of your seat with the timeless thriller, Wait Until Dark by Frederick Knott. Then it’s time to laugh the night away as I did with Michael Frayn’s side-splitting farce about life in the theatre, Noises Off, which prominently features our esteemed Resident Company of actors. Now is the time to subscribe. I promise you a diverse season of theatrical styles and stories that will leave a lasting impression. I encourage you to join us for an unforgettable journey. Sign up today!

WAIT UNTIL DARK BY FREDERICK KNOTT ADAPTED BY JEFFREY HATCHER DIRECTED BY DONALD HICKEN Murder, secret identities, and a switchblade named Geraldine set the stage for this white-knuckle thriller that will have you sleeping with the lights on. Susan, a blind woman, lives with her husband Sam in a basement apartment in Greenwich Village. While away on business, Sam unknowingly smuggles a peculiar doll into the States. But when the doll goes missing, a woman is murdered and a mystery begins to unravel that leaves Susan tangled up with a ruthless con man. A battle of wits ensues and light becomes dark as the tables are turned in a deadly game of cat and mouse—all leading to a “gripping finish.” (LA Times)

DEC 7 thru JAN 8
DOT BY COLMAN DOMINGO DIRECTED BY VINCENT M. LANCISI For the holiday season, hot off its hit New York run, comes an uproariously funny new play from playwright/actor Colman Domingo (Wild With Happy) that takes a touching look at shifting family dynamics and the fragility of the mind affecting an African-American family from West Philly. Dotty and her three adult children are home for the holidays, but this year there is more than presents and yuletide on their mind. While Dotty fights to maintain a grasp on her fading memory, brother and sisters collide in a riotous and raw familial brawl where losing your mind and losing your sanity are two different things.

CHARLES DICKENS’
GREAT EXPECTATIONS ADAPTED BY GALE CHILDS DALY DIRECTED BY TAZEWELL THOMPSON In this “tight and suspenseful” (Chicago Tribune) adaptation, Charles Dickens’ timeless classic comes bursting to life in a stylized and fast-paced world that is sure to leave you gasping for breath as six actors portray 35 characters. Pip, a poor orphan child in nineteenth-century England, is mysteriously plucked from obscurity by the wealthy and decaying Miss Havisham, changing his life forever. A secretive benefactor, unrequited love, and a series of great expectations plague Pip as he attempts to discover whether people can change who they truly are.

NOISES OFF BY MICHAEL FRAYN DIRECTED BY VINCENT M. LANCISI Everyman’s Resident Company of actors transforms into a British company of actors in this side-splitting farce to end all farces. With their opening night on London’s West End just hours away, a cast of actors staggers through rehearsal. Just when the director thinks things couldn’t get worse—they do. With lost lines, love triangles and sardines flying, pandemonium takes over before intermission. Can the cast pull their act together both in front of the footlights and behind the curtain? A love-letter to the thrilling and unpredictable nature of the stage, Noises Off will leave you rolling in the aisles as everything that could go wrong, does go wrong.
