Dollywood’s Summer Celebration ® Opened With Exclusive Intel Drone Light Show On June 25

New shows, drone performances and more highlight summer at Pigeon Forge park

ummer in the Smokies is about to get a little bit sweeter and a little more special, thanks to Dollywood’s Summer Celebration which takes place nowJuly 31. Guests visiting during the event can experience the new Sweet Summer Nights as well as new show offerings from the park’s award-winning entertainment team. Dollywood’s Sweet Summer Nights is a multi-sensory drone light show that creates a symphony of light in the sky above the Pigeon Forge park. Intel Drone Light Shows plans to launch hundreds of drones each evening for a spectacular nighttime experience representing a true evolution in traditional theme park entertainment. The sensational show uses up to 400 drones to animate the spectacular Dollywoodexclusive story. The drone performance is integrated into a musically-choreographed fireworks show, creating a visual and audio event of epic proportions. As part of the Sweet Summer Nights experience, a DJ and energetic dancers bring fun to the streets of Wildwood Grove during a two dance parties that ensure every

The new HeartSong Lodge, which will be located adjacent to the much-heralded Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa, serves as the next element in the company’s thriving lodging business. Set to open in 2023, the new property ushers in another period of tremendous growth for the company and for the entire Smoky Mountains region.

member of the family is on their feet. As the party nears its finale, the celebration takes to the sky as the drones launch into the air for an unforgettable end to the evening. Dollywood’s entertainment team already has debuted several new shows this season, and the trend continues with two new shows that guests are sure to enjoy. Good Vibes began June 25 at the Back Porch Theater and treats guests to a musical journey through the rhythms of classic and contemporary tunes. It’s about celebrating positivity, counting blessings, and simply enjoying life and happiness. The Valley Theater is now home to Forever Country, an energetic look at the changing landscape of country music in the late 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Guests can expect to hear popular hits from artists like Garth Brooks and Shania Twain, as well

as a nod to several popular dance songs, including Dolly’s “Romeo” and Brooks and Dunn’s “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.” It’s story time again as Imagination Playhouse showcases three favorite books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, including “Coat of Many Colors,” based on Parton’s song and children’s book of the same name. “Coat of Many Colors” and “Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon” feature sing-along songs that kids of all ages will enjoy. Everyone’s favorite, “The Little Engine That Could,” also comes to the stage with a delightful reminder of what can happen with just a little bit of determination. Thanks to Penguin Books, guests can enjoy several decorative and interactive photo opportunities for children and their families in the lobby of the theater prior to each show.

A group of special entertainment guests return to Dollywood this summer as well, when the park hosts the Tennessee Air National Guard’s Band of the South (concert band), Blue Groove (jazz band) and Full Throttle (rock group) on Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4. The groups perform at DP’s Celebrity Theater and Showstreet Palace Theater and inspire patriotism by fostering a deep appreciation of the rich history and legacy of the Air Force. One of the group’s missions is to increase the public’s understanding of the importance of air power, the missions and programs of the Air Force and Air National Guard, and the bravery, sacrifice and dedication of Airmen across the globe. While Dollywood guests have an amazing amount of entertainment options to enjoy during their visit, they also can experience the park’s award-winning rides in a completely different environment. Once the sun sets, Dollywood’s trademark attractions, like Wild Eagle, Lightning Rod and Thunderhead, provide a unique experience for those who climb aboard. These rides thrill guests who race through the summer night with no idea which way the track will turn next! As the name implies, Dollywood’s Summer Celebration is a celebration of family fun and laughter at a place everyone loves. NOW ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS

“The Most Important Part of Family Practice....is Family”

C

hota Community Health Services (CCHS), a non-profit Community Health Center, has a vision of partnering with all the residents of their community to become their primary care provider of choice. Working toward improving the quality of life in often medically underserved communities, CCHS has a long history of serving the Monroe County area. Led by a team of compassionate and caring healthcare providers, and a dedicated management team and board of directors, CCHS follows the “medical home” model, which is a team-based care delivery philosophy that emphasizes coordination and communication. Their entire focus is ensuring that the needs of their patients are met, whether they are medical, behavioral, or otherwise. CCHS coordinates their patients’ total care, including consulting with specialists, comprehensive diagnostics, and any other external resources that a patient’s team might identify as necessary. Chota Community Health Services’ commitment to comprehensive care means that their friends and neighbors no longer have to travel to the “bigger” cities in other counties in order to receive the top notch medical care they expect and deserve. Most recently, CCHS stepped up to meet the increased need for healthcare services during this COVID-19 pandemic. Responding quickly to incorporate enhanced safety measures, including the use of telehealth, CCHS was able to continue to serve its community. Additionally, CCHS was able to provide over 8,000 rapid COVID-19 tests as well as administering over 7,000 COVID-19 vaccinations to the community – all at no cost to the patients. Embracing the philosophy that “the

most important part of family practice... is family,” Chota Community Health Services is fully committed to providing a level of healthcare that meets and exceeds the medical needs of the communities it serves, both today, and in the future.

July Highlights

W

hen I was growing up, I so looked forward to the Fourth of July holiday. My family lived in a neighborhood on the south side of Milwaukee where neighbors knew each other and came together for times of celebration. The July 4th celebration was always a highlight, with a big parade ending at the local park and then picnics with games and contests, topping off the day with a fantastic fireworks display. All of the neighborhood kids were so excited and had a great deal of fun.

I still look forward to the July 4th celebrations especially the fireworks. And I still feel that patriotic pride I had as a child. Having lived overseas for a while when my husband was in the military, I had an opportunity to experience life in another country and it helped me really appreciate our American way of life. Also being an entrepreneur now for well over 35 years and knowing what is required to start and remain in business, I am a big supporter of the small business community. Anyone who truly embraces entrepreneurship has experienced the emotional roller coaster of managing and growing a company Everything Knoxville is now out on distribution. Visit online at and those ups and downs can be dizzying in today’s ever changing economic www.EverythingKnoxville.com. environment. It takes passion, determination, discipline, delayed gratification along with a financial plan and a solid marketing strategy to create and sustain a business. This is not for the weak of heart. That is why I applaud all our small business partners that we at East Tennessee’s Mountain Views represent and many times nurture in today’s exciting business environment. If you have the entrepreneurial spirit, I encourage you to consider following through on your dreams. Is it risky? Yes, there are risks but the rewards are there for those who are persistent and consistent. This July 4th we celebrate our country’s independence and that independence has provided the opportunity to set our own destinies. Let’s not forget that small business is the engine that drives our economy and we, at East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, remain your largest fan. So this July 4th, take the time to reflect on your freedoms and celebrate America. And take time to enjoy family while building memories for your kids that will last a lifetime. Happy Independence Day!

CLIENTS & FRIENDS TO GET THE BEST PRICE FOR THEIR HOME

James & Gwen Yerger purchased a lot in Miller’s Landing from Jim Doyel 17 years ago where they built this gorgeous custom home. Jim & the Yergers kept in touch over the years through a wonderful friendship. Recently, James & Gwen had the chance to move to a new home in their son’s neighborhood and decided to jump on the opportunity. They knew they would be in good hands with Village Realty. Village Realty worked with them to find the right time to put their home on the market with professional photography that garnered the attention of 12 potential buyers in the first day. With this strategy, the Yerger’s had a contract on their home within one day with an offer over the asking price.

Is It Time for a Smile Assessment?

The Clear Alternative to Braces

I

f you find yourself comparing your smile to others whose smiles exhibit beautiful, straight, white teeth, then perhaps it’s time you discovered just how easy it can be to achieve a whiter, brighter smile. After all, how many of those people whose smiles you envy were actually born with that perfect smile? Probably not many. Let’s consider teeth straightening first. Did you know that there is a procedure – in fact, the most advanced teeth straightening system available anywhere – that has already helped more than six million people achieve straighter, more natural looking smiles? Called Invisalign, these transparent aligners incrementally adjust your teeth without the use of wire braces. Invisalign is the world’s most advanced clear aligner. By combining 20 years of research and data from six million smiles, you can trust Invisalign to deliver the smile that you deserve. Invisalign is a modern, fully digitized experience designed to help you achieve the smile you want, the way you want it. Unlike other competitive clear aligners, Invisalign aligners use a proprietary SmartTrack® material that offers treatment times that are up to 50% faster. Patients report that Invisalign aligners fit and feel better. Also, innovations in the Invisalign procedure move more smiles, with greater predictability and control than competitive aligners. Perhaps what you will appreciate most about the Invisalign system is that it is administered and supervised by your family dentist and not some third party dentist or orthodontist who will recommend your treatment without ever having met you. After all, who knows you better than your family dentist? To learn how Invisalign can help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted, call Heritage Family Dentistry at 865-816-9211 today to schedule your no-cost, no-obligation evaluation. The Secret of Building & Remodeling a Great Home

8A • East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, July, 2021

I

Jeremy Eaton – Founder & President – Penwood Homes, LLC

began my career in residential home construction and remodeling over 30 years ago. I started as an onsite worker cleaning up building sites and progressed to apprentice and journeyman carpenter, custom trim, cabinetry and built-in cabinetry installer, project manager, and licensed general contractor before launching Penwood Homes, LLC. As a resident of Loudon County and Tennessee native, I have spent my entire career in East Tennessee, building and renovating homes just like yours, including numerous Parade of Homes entries, in the lake and golf-front communities of Tellico Village, Rarity Bay, Kahite and Wind River. While many professionals might consider 3 decades of work in a single career field undesirable, I have found it exciting. I can’t image any other career that could have been more personally rewarding. Working with homeowners to create their dream home or to remodel their existing home is my passion. Combining my 30+ years of experience with my desire to listen carefully to each and every client has been the key to success. Imagine a home that reflects your personal tastes and individuality. Imagine a home so well conceived that it allows you to comfortably age in place over the years. Imagine a home that features truly custom trim work, cabinetry and built-in cabinetry that create that showcase quality look that you’ve always dreamed of. Innovative Solutions for Your Kitchen Challenges

ou may have a particular challenge in your kitchen related to storage, organization or access. Luckily, ShelfGenie has some organizational tips and solutions to help transform these frustrations into joy. Issue #1—Deep or Narrow pantry shelves: Deep or narrow pantries make it more difficult to see and access items you’re storing. Grouping items in like categories and keeping frequently used items up front can help. ShelfGenie Glide Out shelves can also help since they pull out the full depth of your pantry, making seeing and retrieving items easier Issue #2—High overhead cabinets: If you have a high cabinet that is hard to reach, consider putting in vertical dividers to use this space to store flat items such as baking sheets and trays. You can reach each item at the bottom which makes access much easier.

Issue #3—Blind corner cabinet: Some homeowners struggle with cabinets that extend back to a corner which makes full access nearly impossible. ShelfGenie has a solution that can increase usable storage space by up to 50 percent and brings items from the back of the cabinet to the cabinet door for more accessibility. Issue #4—Tricky space under the sink: The area under the sink is hard to reach and keep organized. A ShelfGenie under-sink Glide Out with a riser shelf is custom designed to your cabinet to avoid pipes, hoses and the garbage disposal so it maximizes your usable space- and increases access. Issue #5—Hard-to-reach spaces: For those with mobility issues, bending down to grab pots and pans in lower cabinets can be a real struggle. To

make accessing these items easier, ShelfGenie Designers suggest storing heavier items higher up on Glide Out shelves that pull out for easy retrieval. Issue #6—In-the-way trashcans: Keep you trash / recycling out of sight- but always within reach- with a Glide Out trash / recycling unit installed in a lower cabinet. The unit pulls out for easy access and can be attached to the cabinet door for an elegant, functional solution. To bring these solutions to your home and begin turning your frustration into joy, schedule a complimentary in-home consultation with a ShelfGenie Designer today. ShelfGenie®

Get Ready for the SECURE Act 2.0 T

he House Ways & Means Committee recently approved a bill, nicknamed the SECURE Act 2.0, which builds on the original SECURE Act, regarding retirement plans’ contributions and withdrawals. Whether you’re a retiree, an employee or a small business owner, there’s something in the bill that will affect you. It has strong bipartisan support, so be ready for it to become law in either 2021 or 2022. Here are some of the major highlights: • Where the SECURE Act raised the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) age to 72, the 2.0 version will increase the age further to age 73 on January 1, 2022, age 74 on January 1, 2029 and age 75 on January 1, 2032. This is great news for folks who don’t really need their RMD’s to live on, allowing them to defer this taxable income a few more years.

By Yvonne Marsh, CFP®, CPA

• The current penalty for missing an RMD is 50% of the amount that should have been withdrawn, among the harshest of tax penalties. The SECURE Act 2.0 will reduce this penalty to 25%, and if you correct it in a timely manner, it will be further reduced to 10%. • The current catch-up 401(k) and 403(b) contribution amounts are $6,500 for those age 50 and older. The new law would increase the catch-up amount to $10,000 for those age 62 to 64, and also index the current $1,000 IRA age 50 catch-up to inflation. • The SECURE Act 2.0 would require employers to enroll eligible employees in their 401(k) plan at an initial 3% salary deferral, increasing it each year by 1% until 10% is reached. Employees could opt-out, but research shows that automatic opt-in is a powerful path to retirement savings. Businesses with fewer than 10 employees are exempt. • While 401(k)s currently offer Roth contributions (assuming the employer plan allows it), this would be expanded to include SIMPLE IRA’s and SEP IRA’s, which is welcome news. Getting Back

10A • East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, July, 2021

A

ll greeted the mid-December announcement of the availability of a vaccine with thanks and relief, followed soon by the question, “When are we getting back?” That question had a different reference point for each person and institution. For religious institutions it meant “When can we get back to our inperson worship practices and to the various ministries that occupy our congregations?” Of course, worship and ministry had continued during the pandemic but under different and constrained protocols. By the end of the first quarter people were Zoom-weary and longing for life in three dimensions. The eagerness to “get back” grew as the ranks of the vaccinated grew. Most of us exhibited all the patience of small children on a long trip asking every five minutes, “Are we there yet?” Just this past Sunday, Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church returned, for the most part, to traditional in-person worship practices. Maskless and seated closer together than had been the recent practice, most welcomed the change. We were not the first congregation to return to “normal”. We had deliberately taken gradual steps to get to that point, aware that many still felt significant anxiety about abandoning the protocols that had kept us safe during a frightening time. Nonetheless, the singing of the first hymn evidenced the joyful mood of the assembled. Without masks and singing at full voice for the first time the volume increased and grew with each verse. Those viewing from home later commented on the emotion they felt in hearing the congregation sing again. Our first hymn was an old favorite, “Come, Thou Fount

of Every Blessing”. It was a remarkably apt choice. The second verse begins with the phrase, “Here I raise my Ebenezer”. Those who know this hymn have gotten beyond thinking about Scrooge learning that, in this context, “Ebenezer” refers to verse 7 in the book of 1 Samuel. Sensing the fear of the Israelites about impending conflict with the ever-annoying Philistines, Samuel raised a large stone marker (or “Ebenezer”, meaning, “Stone of help” in Hebrew) as a reminder to the people of God’s help to them in the past and as an emblem of encouragement for their future. The Shepherd of the Lake congregation has chosen this post-pandemic (hopefully) time to engage in a strategic planning process. The congregation was formed only seven years ago and has grown significantly in that time. Inspired by our recent experiences we are undertaking a self-evaluation and plotting a course for the future growth of our ministry. Our goal is to determine ways we might better engage with our ministry partners, enhance the spiritual lives of our membership and reach out to those who need to hear the Good News. Planning is not about predicting the future –it would be foolish and arrogant to imagine that we could. Planning is about being prepared for what the future brings and not being fearful of what that may be. In a sense, this is a time for us to raise our own Ebenezer as a reminder of God’s help on this most recent trial and encouragement for our endeavors in the future. It may just be a good idea for all. Shepherd of the Lake 865-816-4756 www.shepherdofthelaketn.org

Area Churches Assist Good Shepherd Center in Time of Need

R

ecently two area churches held separate food drives to assist the Good Shepherd Center in a time of special need. Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church located in Tellico Village and Corntassel Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Provo Road in Vonore assisted the Good Shepherd in achieving their mission by holding food drives for those Monroe County residents requiring assistance. Each congregation provided food goods and money to keep the Good Shepherd’s pantry stocked with critical food items. Claire Moxim, a Good Shepherd Board Member and a member of Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church stated, “Our congregation is a large regular supporter of the Good Shepherd Center and we felt it important to assist them while their demand is especially critical”. With the increase in demand for food, the center is seeing many new clients and is planning to re-open its free clothing store in July based upon recent CDC judgements. Responding to recent crisis events, new programs and services will be rolled out to the public by the center. A fall fund raiser is being planned as well as a spring state-approved lottery campaign. These fund raisers are all designed to help provide free food and services for residents in Monroe County. As representatives of the Corntassel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Randy and Miriam Fisher organized their campaign to bring food to the Good Shepherd Center. Both mentioned: “we have so many great people here in

East Tennessee that are willing to stand up and help those in need, we are proud of our congregation!”. Currently the Good Shepherd provides food to an average of 1,500 people each month and distributes approximately 30,000 lbs. of food monthly. Financial support comes primarily from donations from many local churches, local businesses, and individuals. Volunteers working at the center are making the difference in the lives of residents and additional volunteers are always needed. If you are interested in learning more and giving back to your community, please contact the Good Shepherd Center. The Good Shepherd Center was started in 1993 and the founding churches were: Buckner Methodist Church, First United Methodist, Madisonville Presbyterian and St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. The center was created to minister to people in crisis. The support services are rendered today for Monroe County residents that request food, clothing, or financial aid for utility bills. The Good Shepherd Center provides these services free of charge and is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization. ~ What’s That Smell? ~

M

any of us have either heard or said, “Boy, your hair smells nice.” Countless others comment on how their own hair smells when they leave the salon. Let’s take a few moments to find out why hair has a specific aroma. For those of us who can still remember the crowded

smoke filled bars of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, you can recall how your hair reeked of the smell of stale cigarette smoke. For those of us who have had a permanent wave, we can recall the familiar aroma of the perm solution. The reason for this is that hair is extremely porous, and it is this quality that enables the hair to take on the fragrance

of its surroundings. Hair that has been recently washed in a citrus smelling shampoo will tend to take on that fragrance. Hair that has recently been treated with a chemical will tend to take on that particular smell and so forth and so on. You may by now get Brian K. Whitehead the point. Managing Partner However, some people’s The Village Salon hair will have an aroma that is entirely different in nature. As we said earlier, hair has a tendency to absorb a smell that it has had a prolonged exposure to and as you will see that is not always a good thing. Of the many components of our skin, two of them that can affect the smell of our hair are the sebaceous glands and the sweat glands. Sebaceous glands produce an oily/ waxy matter called sebum to lubricate and moisten the skin. These glands are found all over our skin but are in the greatest abundance on the face and scalp. The sweat glands or sudoriferous glands produce sweat to help regulate our body temperature and are also found in abundance on the scalp. It is these two glands that can lead to someone’s hair having an unpleasant odor. I personally know people who have such oily skin and who are also heavy sweaters who must wash their hair every day to avoid their hair taking on a very unpleasant odor. It is not even the hair’s fault as it has no way of emitting an odor on its own but in this case is simply taking on the smell created by the oil and sweat produced by the scalp. Others have such dry skin and seldom perspire, that they are able to go several days without shampooing their hair. If you happen to find yourself on either end of this particular spectrum or somewhere in the middle it is neither good nor bad for your hair. It may however influence your maintenance habits when it comes to washing your hair. If you are uncertain of how you are affected by such a condition, just speak to your salon professional. Thanks again for all the ideas.

Athens Community Theatre presents Disney’s Newsies

AUDITIONS FOR SELET ROLES AT THE ARTS CENTER IN ATHENS

A

thens Community Theatre (ACT) announces its return to live programming with the production, Disney’s Newsies, a musical based on the Disney film in October 2021. Show dates are October 14-24, 2021. There will be auditions in July to fill a small number of open roles, including named parts Joseph Pulitzer and Medda Larkin, described below. Advanced registration is required to audition on Sunday, July 25 and Monday July 26 and anyone interested must read information on how to audition. ACT seeks singers, dancers (including tap dancers), and actors age 14/rising 9th grade and older (including adults) of any and all ethnicities for the roles described below: Joseph Pulitzer (adult/older adult) A pompous businessman through and through, owns the World and is concerned solely with the bottom line. Medda Larkin (adult woman of color) Inspired by vaudeville performer Aida Overton Walker, this bigvoiced saloon singer and star of the Bowery offers her theater as a safe haven for the newsies. An astute entertainer with great comic delivery, she’s a good friend to Jack and stands firmly behind the newsies in their fight for justice. 3 ensemble roles (preferably male, age 14-24) 2 ensemble roles with step out speaking parts (male or female, adults) Athens Community Theatre always practices open auditions, meaning anyone and everyone is welcome to audition. Those who auditioned for this production in July of 2020 and were not offered a role are encouraged to audition again – the production team is not filling open roles based on previous auditions. Please contact The Arts Center staff with any questions about auditioning or participating in an ACT production. The show dates for this production are October 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, and 24. Anyone interested in performing in the show must register to audition during one of the appropriate audition times. Each audition slot is limited to eight participants, which is why advanced registration is required. Each participant may register for one audition slot and one audition slot only. There is an exception for those interested in a tap role, in which case they should sign up for two slots: an open audition slot and a tap audition slot. Available audition slots are listed below. Sunday July 25 at 2:00pm, 2:30pm, 3:00pm, 3:30pm (Open Auditions – singing & dancing) Monday July 26 at 6:00pm, 6:30pm, 7:00pm (Open Auditions – singing & dancing) Monday July 26 at 7:30pm (Tap Auditions – call backs, as determined) Anyone interested in auditioning must register in advance for the appropriate time slot(s) and prepare a 16-bar solo. The Wrinkled Shirt in Your Closet? It Has Something to Say

f your closet is too crowded and disorganized, you probably have several blouses or shirts that you never see because they are crammed in the corner or laying on the floor underneath other clothes. Well, if that shirt could write you a letter, this is probably what it would write: “I am really a nice-looking shirt. I fit you well. You used to love me and you wore me to some of your most important meetings or dinner with friends. We looked so beautiful together. However, as time went by, I wasn’t the center of attention. I was pushed further and further back in your closet. I am feeling unloved and disrespected. You never look at me because you can’t see me! It’s dark and cramped back in the corner. And yes, I know I’m wrinkled, but you would be too if you were living in this crowded space where the other hangers are constantly stabbing me. You are to blame for my condition. If you just took the time to give me -- and yourself – a new organized closet system we could both be happy. I can just see a new custom closet where I have glorious space to be my best self. I wouldn’t be a wrinkled mess and you would love me again. Please, call Tailored Living of Knoxville and setup a free consultation. They can design a new closet and show you a 3D rendering of the design so you’ll know exactly where I will be placed. The sooner you call the sooner you and I can be together again! PS. A pair of your sandals and a pair of great-fitting black pants feel the same way.” If you are wasting time every morning trying to find missing clothing items, you didn’t need your shirt to tell you that you need a new organized closet system. From a closet to the family mudroom, or the garage to a home office, Tailored Living of Knoxville can help organize every room in the home. Tailored Living is known for its innovative and affordable in-home storage solutions. Do take your shirt’s advice to call Tailored Living of Knoxville for a free consultation. Tailored Living can help you love your clothes again.

nder that iconic and weathered outback hat for which Kenny Mashburn is perhaps best recognized is a Tennessee native and businessman that has embraced the American dream and entrepreneurial spirit for over 45 years. From it’s Tellico Village showroom and headquarters, Mashburn Home Builders, LLC, has earned “a reputation you can hang your hat on.” “I can’t imagine myself doing anything else,” said Mashburn Home Builders, LLC owner and founder Kenny Mashburn. “Helping homeowners to create their very own dream home and watching the expression on their faces as their home nears completion is its own reward. Enriching the lives of others is truly the catalyst which motivates us each and every day.” Kenny and his team of talented and experienced craftsmen have also earned a reputation for combining value and quality. “Homeowners often express their surprise at the level of craftsmanship we exhibit, believing that true craftsmanship was a thing of the past. We also believe that every home, regardless of its size, can be a custom home. We enjoy showing our clients how they can affordably create that showcase quality look in their homes which reflect their individuality, style preferences and tastes.” While perhaps best known for new home construction, Mashburn has also earned a reputation for remodeling and updating existing homes. “Many homeowners, who prefer to remain in their homes, express a desire to update their homes to reflect today’s newer styles and trends. We routinely replace kitchen

and bathroom cabinetry, install new countertops, complete an unfinished lower level, replace or refinish their hardwood flooring, create a home office or craftroom, or even a home entertainment room. You’re only limited by your imagination.” Kenny and team also specialize in enhancing your family’s out-of-doors living experiences by creating outdoor living areas that allow you to enjoy all that Tennessee has to offer. An expanded deck or patio, screened in porch or a four-season room will allow you, family and friends to take full advantage of our area’s rolling and often mist-shrouded countryside, beautiful lake, forest and mountain views, and your own beautifully landscaped yard. Whether you’re considering building your new dream home or updating and remodeling your existing home, you are invited to experience the Mashburn Home Builders difference for yourself. Discover true creativity, quality and value. “I would like to extend my personal invitation for you to visit us at Mashburn Home Builders today. so many different ways. During such a difficult time, we have done our best to help many families find new kitchen and laundry appliances for their home. To meet customer expectations, we made sure to keep our warehouse and parts stores as stocked as we possibly could, and continue to do so as the availability of many products is still a concern. To keep our customers and employees safe, we began wearing masks and asked our customers to do the same. We also began utilizing FaceTime and video calling so that customers could shop with us right from home and could avoid trips to our stores to see the stock at that location. We also continued to connect with our customers via our website’s online chat and through social media. Throughout this pandemic, we’ve learned new ways to help our customers, and have worked toward improving each and every customer’s experience with our company. We are blessed with the amazing support of our communities who value shopping local and supporting small businesses. For that, we want to say thank you for supporting a local, family-owned business for the last 55 years, but most importantly last year with the pandemic going on and continuing into this year. We wouldn’t be here without your continued support. Thank you from our entire team to you and your family. Beat the Heat This Summer with a Home Water Filtration System!

4B • East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, July, 2021

By david Brewster, Owner of Aqua Clear Water Systems, LLC

S

ummer has arrived! Most of America is cleaning out their closets, welcoming the pool and lake days, and spending more time in their backyard relaxing with friends and family. On hot, humid summer days, the most satisfying thing I can think of is an ice-cold glass of water! But often in our homes, the water can taste or smell, especially in East Tennessee. Some common complaints I often hear are a metallic taste or a rotten egg smell. No one wants to be drinking bad water on a hot, summer day! We at Aqua Clear Water Systems can provide you with that pure, tasty water you crave after mowing the lawn or being outside with your kids. What’s the solution, you ask? A Whole-Home Water Filtration System! Not only will it increase your home’s value, but it will also give you the water you’ve been dreaming of. In the last year, we’ve spent more time at home than ever before, which means you’ve been drinking your home’s water in copious amounts. So, we’d like to give you 5 reasons why a Kinetico Water System is the key to your summer water woes. 1. Improved Water Quality, Taste & Odor. East Tennessee’s water is known for its hardness, as well as chlorine, iron, sediment, and other harmful contaminants polluting the water. A whole house Kinetico water filtration system can remove all of these contaminants to give you tasteless, odorless, and silky feeling soft water throughout your home. 2. Improved Life of Appliances & Fixtures. A system will protect your home from damages caused by a variety of water contaminants! You could be extending the life of your water heater, washing machine, dishwasher, pipes, refrigerator, and more by installing a Kinetico water system, because reducing the build-up in these appliances allows them to work efficiently.

3. Increased Value of Your Home. With the housing market booming, we’d love to help you get a bigger bang for your buck when selling. An article titled 10 Upgrades That Increase Home Values by Forbes stated “this amenity will pay off now and in the future when it’s time to sell.” 4. Improved Health. Chlorine is a harmful chemical used to treat bacteria in water. While it’s necessary to kill bacteria, chlorine can’t differentiate between good and bad bacteria. When you shower in chlorinated tap water, your skin absorbs the chlorine like a sponge, leaving your health at risk. To name a

few, high amounts of chlorine can cause breathing and lung problems, as well as cancer from THMs agents. Filtering your water could save you from unnecessary illnesses. 5. Improved Skin & Hair. A whole house filtration system reduces the amount of build-up on your appliances, as well as your skin and hair. Who wouldn’t want that? Softened water results in brighter skin, shinier hair, and longer-lasting clothes. Now that you know the benefits of installing a whole-home filtration system, we’d love the opportunity to help you improve your home in 2021 by doing

an in-person or virtual free water health check-up. We’ll come to your house for FREE or connect via Zoom. It’s your choice! For East Tennessee’s Mountain Views readers only, we’re offering an exclusive designer faucet in the color of your choice ($195 value) and $200 off when you purchase a system before July 31st, 2021. Give us a call or text today, and become a part of the ACWS family! Aqua Clear Water Systems 1767 Kevin Lane Lenoir City, TN 37772 865-213-1139 www.aquaclearws.com

Proven Protection From Nature’s Most Destructive Force!

old, family owned business, has been in business since 1950. Rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau and a National Fire Protection Association member, WB Lightning Rods installed air terminals (rods) on our roof which were connected to down connectors (cables) which in turn where connected to copper grounding rods. So just how does this system work? It’s quite simple actually. The system provides a pathway for lightning to be safely dissipated to the system’s grounding rods. Installed in about 4 hours, this system will provide you with the peace of mind you deserve. This lightning protection system is an inexpensive alternative to the loss of a home, personal possessions, injuries or worse. To learn more call William Burden at WB Lightning Rods at (321) 217-3438 today.

t is estimated that lightning strikes occur 25 million times a year in North America resulting in $5 billion in property damage. Do you think that lightning can’t strike your home? What are the odds? Think again. In just the last several months, lighting has struck two homes in Rarity Bay. One home was a total loss. The other home, which was under construction, sustained fire damage. Fortunately there were no injuries or fatalities. The solution is easier than you might imagine. Acting on the recommendation of a neighbor whose home was next door to one of the two lightning strikes I mentioned earlier, I contacted William Burden at WB Lightning Rods at (321) 217-3438. Wallpaper, it's back! (and better than ever!) Does the thought of wallpaper bring up bad memories? Never fear! Wallpaper is the most effective way to completely change a space in one step!

“Placebo or Nocebo?” ~with Joe Nowell, Pharm D., Wednesday, July 21– 6:15 pm

New technologies in both the paper construction and the adhesives used to apply wallpaper have completely revolutionized the application and removal of wallpaper today, with proper installation of course. The wallpaper of today no longer peels in tiny strips, and has fresh motifs and colors, and even textures!

D

Wallpapers can be subtle, earthy and organic, glam, textural, dramatic, and so much more. From focal walls, ceilings, and entire rooms, wallpaper is a great way to add personality to a space. My favorite space to use wallpaper are powder rooms, they're small, and often do not have the space for too much adornment besides the walls, and it makes a great statement for guests.

Curious? We can help you select the perfect wallpaper to add to your home, call us today to get started!

July In the Garden

2

by

Lisa Grugin

021 IS MOVING past the halfway point, so it is time for an evaluation. How are things going in your yard? What has done well and what has not? What plants are thriving, and which ones are struggling? What diseases and insects have appeared? The key to success is to keep an eye on things daily (or at least weekly), so wander around your yard while you are drinking your morning coffee or tea to check for minor problems before they become major problems. Here is this month’s guide to the garden: ✻ Water is the most critical element of plant success. Please remember that sprinklers are great for grass and flowers but woefully inadequate for trees and shrubs. Use a rain gauge to see how much water is actually going to the plants. Small empty cans (like tuna and cat food) can also be used by simply placing them in your zones to see how much water goes in them. Your goal is 1” per week, which will fill up those cans. Morning watering is best because it allows the water to evaporate off of the leaves, reducing the chance of fungal growth. Be diligent in watching for areas where a sprinkler may be blocked. ✻ If you are hand watering, keep in mind that most water hoses will put out 5-6 gallons per minute. Small plants will need a couple of gallons, so count out 10-15 seconds. Larger shrubs will need at least a full minute, and trees can take in 15 gallons or more (3 minutes). You can also place the hose at the base of the plant, turn it on a trickle, and leave it for 20-30 minutes. I suggest setting a timer so you don’t forget to turn the hose off and yes, I am speaking from experience! ✻ Insects and diseases are abundant this

BLOOM

year because of the mild winter. Keep a close eye on your plants so you can start treating early. Always start with the least toxic product first, and only escalate if that is ineffective. Keeping your plants cleaned, deadheaded, and properly fed will greatly reduce the damage. ✻ Did you plant vegetables? We are getting to the time of year where you are either starting to harvest or doing the heart-breaking task of pulling up plants that have failed. If you are harvesting, keep it up so your plants keep producing. If you are pulling plants up, there is still time to replace some of them. To improve your chance of success, water regularly at ground level (a drip system is best), mulch to prevent splash, and remove leaves if they start looking spotty, twisted, or diseased. It is also critical to move your plants around, and don’t plant anything in the same place it was the year before. Give us a call if you have problems. ✻ How do your containers look? Fertilize, trim, and deadhead plants to keep them healthy looking. If they are ugly, toss them

865-986-7229 in the compost and stop by for replacements. We keep a nice selection of larger plants through the summer for just that purpose. Life is too short to have ugly flowers! ✻ Perennials may also require a little maintenance. Deadhead and cut back plants as needed. Snip back plants that are leggy to help them bush out. We get fresh loads of perennials in all summer, so come in to add to your garden. ✻ Remember our feathered friends. Keep those feeders and birdbaths full and clean. They will show their appreciation by eating many of the problem-causing insects in your garden! ✻ If you have sparse mulch, a fresh layer will keep temperature and moisture levels stable. Remember that you never need more than 3” and to never pile it around your trees - donuts, not volcanos!

✻ I want to talk just a bit about plant toxicity and pets. There are many plants that can cause a range of problems, from upset stomach to fatal reactions, so please make plant choices with that in mind. This is especially true for puppies or any animal that tends to nibble. My granddog spent several days at the vet because he decided a lily looked tasty, so I wanted to make you aware of the possibility! That is all for this month. Stop by and take a look at some of the beautiful things we have in our greenhouse and gift shop. Let us help you have a gorgeous home! o, it’s not just you. Some of the mess and mounds of stuff in your garage is often just the busyness of life. However, without efficient storage and organization solutions, clutter and chaos will continue to plague you. If your garage looks chaotic, you can quickly gain control with custom garage storage cabinets from PremierGarage of Knoxville. PremierGarage, powered by Tailored Living, will help you find storage space for just about everything. One of the biggest advantages of custom garage cabinets is they are tailored to your specific space so you can maximize the available storage space. Cabinets are designed to fit around water heaters, electrical panels, doorways and windows. You’ll get a clean, uniform look throughout your garage without having to piece together ready-made, do-it-yourself storage pieces. Styles include traditional cabinet doors or siding doors for enclosed cabinets in narrow spaces. Cabinets can be integrated with countertops, drawers and wall-hanging storage systems to maximize your storage space. Oneinch-thick adjustable shelves inside the cabinets hold large plastic bins and other large items. Other cabinet and storage options include: • Adding locks to doors or drawers provides additional safety precautions to keep tools or toxic products like paint thinner, radiator coolant and fertilizer out of reach of children. • Slatwall with its various hooks and baskets is ideal for sports equipment and large tools like rakes, shovels and hoses. Slatwall helps keep everything off the floor and close to the wall for easy accessibility. • Overhead automated lift systems for bikes, kayaks, and other items keep large objects safe from the outside weather, but doesn’t take up valuable garage floor space. • Tailored Living’s wide range of styles, finishes and colors let you coordinate your garage cabinets with your home’s existing décor, or you can create a whole new look for the garage. The perfect foundation for your garage cabinets is a durable custom garage floor. PremierGarage, the nation’s leader in garage enhancements and remodeling, can transform an oil-stained, pitted, or peeling epoxy-coated garage floor into a showroom quality look. ith two showrooms in Hardin Valley and Maryville, you can visit either of these convenient shopping venues to discover how to transform virtually every room in your home. Homeowners agree that their home’s kitchen is the most important room in their home. They’re the center of our family’s day-to-day living activities. Early in my career, I purchased and remodeled existing homes for resale. It was here that I learned the importance of creating dynamic kitchens and baths. They became the centerpiece of each successful sale. From my vantage point as a cabinet buyer/customer, I gained an appreciation for what homeowners shopping for kitchen and bath cabinetry wanted from their cabinet supplier, which led to the creation and launch of Knox Cabinet Co. We set out to make shopping for quality and affordable cabinetry as easy and as seamless as possible. Our cabinets are built from all wood construction and all doors and drawers are softclose and drawers are dovetailed. Just a few of the available options include pull-out trash receptacles, microwave cabinets, spice rack pull-outs, and file drawers for starters. Other favorite options include multiple stain and paint options and your choice of door profiles. We can also offer your favorite Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams colors. These are truly high-end cabinets at a very affordable price. Our showrooms feature multiple designer created vignettes to help inspire you to discover that showcase quality kitchen and bathroom within your home. “Experience a Superior Level Oriental Rug Washing Excellence Unavailable Anywhere Else”

I

By Kerry McDuffie – Owner – Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning

f you’re in the process of spring cleaning, don’t neglect your Oriental rugs. They’ve experienced a great deal of use this winter, including shoes contaminated with salt and sand used on sidewalks and driveways. And no, simple vacuuming will not remove these accumulated contaminants, which can actually damage your rug’s natural fibers and organic dyes. Genuine, Oriental rug washing is the only proven method to thoroughly clean your home’s valuable rugs, and if you’re a pet owner, rug washing is an absolute necessity. The first goal of successful Oriental rug washing should be to “safely” wash your rugs. Let me explain. Oriental rugs are far different from their wall-to-wall cousins. Oriental rugs are hand-woven using natural fibers and organic dyes, including, believe it or not, tea and vegetable dyes. While beautiful to admire, Oriental rugs cannot be safely cleaned using today’s conventional carpet cleaning methods. These conventional cleaning systems can actually permanently damage your valuable rugs. At Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning’s West Knoxville-based Oriental rug washing boutique, we pamper your rugs by using our proprietary 11-step Oriental rug washing process, which assures you of both a thoroughly and safely cleaned rug. We strive to offer you the latest technological advances in Oriental rug washing with continued investments in state-of-the-art technology designed to provide you with a level of clean unavailable anywhere else. I encourage you to visit us online at www.superiorofknoxville.com and view our informative video to discover for yourself the Superior of Knoxville Oriental rug washing difference. For all of your Oriental rug washing needs, including that occasional pet accident, trust the one company that has put “SUPERIOR” back into Oriental rug washing since 1985: Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning. Monroe County Animal Shelter

allie is a pretty 3-year old Calico girl. She is very friendly and vocal and is so sweet. She came in as a stray and would love to be in her forever home with you. Sunny is a 1-year old, FIV+, orange tabby. Sunny is sweet, playful, and loves to zoom around his condo like a crazy kitty! He adores toys and wants all the attention that you can offer. He seems to be fine with other cats and is still full of kitten energy! Liam is a 3-year old, buff, long haired boy who is FIV+. He is a quiet boy who prefers to stick to the sidelines and observe the world go by. He appears to have some mild allergies to fleas so we suggest an indoor only home with good flea control prescribed by a vet. Liam would appreciate a calm, quiet home. Shadow is a 2-year-old, beautiful, black shorthair. He was brought in as a stray so we don’t know his history. Shadow is a lively boy who is FIV+. He is friendly, loves affection, and would make a perfect house shadow! He can act a bit peculiar in the presence of other cats so we recommend that he be an only cat. Please don’t pass by Sunny, Liam or Shadow (or any cat) just because they are FIV positive. An FIV positive cat is not a big issue. Shadow (should be an only cat home), Sunny and Liam need to reside in indoor only homes where any other non-aggressive cats are already spayed/neutered. They must have check-ups twice per year as dental issues are a possibility and fed a nutritious diet (NO raw foods). FIV positive cats can live as long as negative cats with proper nutrition and medical monitoring! Please don’t pass by any cat just because they are FIV positive. Here is a link to an excellent article from Cornell University: https://www.vet.cornell.edu/departments-centers-and-institutes/cornell-feline-health-center/ health-information/feline-health-topics/feline-immuno-

deficiency-virus. Also, we have fully vetted kittens-ready to go home. Kendall is 8 years young and a 63-lb. neutered male Hound mix with a happy, laid back personality. He currently hangs out in the shelter kitchen area. He is heartworm positive and has started treatments. This docile senior treats the shelter cats with polite curiosity. He shows good house manners and is housebroken. He walks well on a leash and appears to get along with other dogs. Always the gentleman, he appreciates affection when offered, but, with the wisdom that comes from his age, he does not demand attention. Kendall is a perfect example of the many advantages of adopting a senior dog. Senior dogs are easier to train and require less supervision. Their puppy teething issues are behind them and most likely they have grown out of any destructive habits that come with the younger years. Their personalities are already developed and predictable. Older pets adapt to our daily routines quicker, allowing an easier transition into a new home. At 8, Kendall is just entering into his” Fabulous Fifties” with plenty of years left to enjoy a comfortable loving home. He is well deserving of the opportunity to become a great addition to a family. Ida is a 4-year-old, 54 lb. Pit mix. She is a happy, friendly girl and is housebroken. Common to the breed, these dogs thrive on being a part of the family. They enjoy playtime, trail walks, neighborhood walks, socializing

opportunities, and couch-potato time with lots of belly rubs. Ida is a VERY strong dog with a youthful energy that currently creates a problem when she is on the leash. She may not be good with small children and pets due to her size. She is a smart girl that will benefit from some behavior training for leash walking. This can be accomplished within a few weeks with the use of proper, consistent, training techniques. Bring your current dog to meet her-she may be a bit “dog-selective.” The Monroe County Friends of Animals (MCFA) operates a monthly pet food pantry to help pet families in Monroe County. Our supplies are VERY low and we are reaching out to the community to help. Any donations of canned or dry puppy and dog and kitten and cat food are needed and will be greatly appreciated. Donations can be dropped off at the Shelter, during shelter hours, Tues-Fri 11-4:30, Sat 11-2 (PLEASE specify that the donation is for the Food Pantry). We thank you for your kindness and support. The Monroe County Animal Shelter is located at 170 Kefauver Lane in Madisonville (behind WalMart) and is open Tuesday-Friday from 11-4:30 and Saturdays from 11-2. Email or call 423-442-1015 for more information and to schedule a meet & greet with a pet… and check out all available pets on our website, https://www.monroecountyfriendsofanimals.org The official Facebook page is: TN Monroe County Animal Shelter.

recent article in BoatUS describes how two young friends, boys ages 10 and 11, drowned in Cherokee Lake. Sadly they died from Electric Shock Drowning or ESD. ESD occurs when low levels of A/C current enter the water from faulty electrical wiring on family docks and boats. This current incapacitates a swimmer, Consumers’ Choice Award winner for Excellence causing them to drown. Say Good-Bye to Endless Boat Detailing

T

By Tom Irmen

he 2021 boating season is now fully underway and so is a new season of endless boat detailing, unless of course you own a Touchless Boat Cover System from Lifetime Docks, LLC. Like other area boaters, we frequently see boats in docks, both private and some community docks that are protected by the Touchless Boat Cover System. The concept is a simple one...create a garage for your boat that protects your watercraft like your home’s garage protects your vehicles. So we installed a new Touchless Boat Cover System last summer, redirecting a portion of the money we saved from a canceled 2020 Mediterranean cruise. Well the proof as they say is in the pudding. When we opened up our boat for the beginning of the 2021 boating season, we were pleasantly surprised. And although we had considered using our old boat cover as added protection, we avoided the temptation. We simply pressed our Touckless key fob and our boat, which was detailed last summer, appeared, looking showroom new. No bird droppings and no spiders. We lowered our boat lift, turned on the battery, started the blower and after the required interval, started our engine. We were off for an enjoyable day on the lake. Truly the best investment we have made in years and

we plan on taking great care of our new Touchless Boat Cover System that takes such great care of our family boat. Thanks to our good friends at Lifetime Docks, LLC we plan on taking advantage of their Basic Maintenance Package which includes the lubrication of the system’s 20 to 25 pulleys, checking and adjusting all components, and a thorough test/inspection of the entire cover. Lifetime also offers a variety of other helpful Maintenance Packages that they are anxious to share with you.

Prepare for a season of fun in the sun on the lake without the long hours of detailing your boat by calling Patrick Boring at Lifetime Docks, LLC. Avoid the rush by calling Patrick today. Lifetime Docks, LLC Patrick Boring 865.719.0027 patrick@lifetimedockstn.com

Live Theater Returns to Knoxville with Outstanding 2021-2022 Season of Broadway at the Tennessee Presented by Greater Knoxville Honda Dealers

New subscription packages go on sale Aug. 2

he excitement, emotion, and energy of Broadway returns to the Tennessee Theatre presented by Greater Knoxville Honda Dealers with a 2021-2022 lineup poised to entertain and delight. With six titles and a total of 34 performances, the complete lineup of the upcoming season of Broadway at the Tennessee Theatre is presented by Greater Knoxville Honda Dealers and includes: • Come From Away – Dec. 21-26, 2021 (7 performances) • Mean Girls – Feb. 1-6, 2022 (7 performances) • RENT 25th Anniversary Tour – The Farewell Season of Love – Feb. 25-27, 2022 (5 performances) • Summer: The Donna Summer Musical – April 8-10, 2022 (5 performances) • Hairspray – June 3-5, 2022 (5 performances) • Anastasia – July 15-17, 2022 (5 performances) In addition, the Tennessee Theatre has released a sneak peek of the 2022-2023 season, revealing that the lineup will include Hamilton. The best way to guarantee tickets to Hamilton is to purchase a season package for the 2021-2022 season. Subscribers will then have the opportunity to renew for the 2022-2023 season and secure their seats for Hamilton before tickets become available to the general public. Hamilton is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, Hamilton has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre – a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education. “Broadway at the Tennessee presented by Greater Knoxville Honda Dealers is a cornerstone of the rich arts, culture, and entertainment experiences Knoxville has to offer,” Tennessee Theatre Executive Director Becky Hancock said. “The announcement of this new season also

helps signify the return of live entertainment, as the local community and visitors come together to enjoy storytelling, music and dance from the stage of Knoxville’s Grand Entertainment Palace. Whether you’re a subscriber or you’ve never seen a show at the Tennessee Theatre, we can’t wait to see you; this promises to be a special season as we gather together to experience the laughter, tears, and wonder of Broadway at the Tennessee.” Existing subscribers of the Broadway the Tennessee presented by Greater Knoxville Honda Dealers series will have an exclusive renewal period June 16-July 16, providing the opportunity to renew and secure their season

tickets before new subscriptions and single-show tickets go on sale. After July 16, any unrenewed subscriptions will be released. Starting Aug. 2, subscription packages go on sale to the public. All subscribers can enjoy a new package for Sunday evening featuring best available seats. Subscriber benefits include first notification of season lineups; opportunity to purchase tickets to individual shows before the general public; securing reduced ticket fees and the best available prices of the season; and the ability to renew the subscription for the 2022-2023 season, thus securing seats for Hamilton. “We’re anticipating a strong response from both new and renewing subscribers, so we encourage Broadway fans to act fast,” Hancock said. “Not only will they enjoy this season’s terrific lineup, but they’ll have the option next year to renew for the 2022-2023 season, which will include the highly anticipated showing of Hamilton. We want to make sure that the public understands, however, that tickets for Hamilton are not for sale currently. Those will be available once the 2022-2023 season is announced, which we anticipate will be around summer of 2022, and on sale exclusively through the Tennessee Theatre’s official partner Ticketmaster.com.” To renew a current subscription now through July 16 or to purchase a new subscription starting Aug. 2, visit www. tennesseetheatre.com/broadway for fast, convenient processing. Subscriptions also may be renewed or purchased by calling the Tennessee Theatre box office at 865-6841200, extension 2, or visiting the Clinch Avenue box office in person. The box office is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tickets for individual shows will go on sale starting Sept. 13. To purchase single-show tickets starting Sept. 13, visit www.tennesseetheatre.com/broadway.

Planning a Successful Estate Sale

state sales, also referred to as tag sales in many areas of our country, are used to liquidate the personal possessions of an individual, family, or estate. These sales, which are growing in popularity, are generally the most efficient way to sell unneeded personal and household items resulting from the passing of a homeowner, downsizing, relocation, bankruptcy, or divorce. Although an effective way to dispose of personal possessions, estate sales require a great deal of preparation that can be overwhelming if you are unfamiliar with how to properly orchestrate a sale of this scope. Because they are much more involved than a yard or garage sale, a successful estate sale needs to be very well organized. Items for sale should be divided into categories. Sales items are often catalogued. Displays are typically set up in the home with valuable items, particularly smaller pieces, displayed separately for security purposes. Next, you need to price your items, set your sale dates, advertise, then prepare yourself for the crowds of buyers. Sound daunting?
