Why Bring the Party Back Inside?
Volume 21, No. 9, Section A
September 2021
W
hen family and friends are outside enjoying a special event or just a time of relaxation, why be forced to bring your party back inside because of an unexpected afternoon shower or that relentless summertime sun? The solution is simple thanks to Undercover Systems. If your home has a raised deck, Undercover Systems will install a modular designed roof system under the underside of your deck. Their patented roof/ceiling system, consisting of individual ceiling panels and integrated gutters, collect rain water and melting snow or ice, channeling water and debris from the panels to the system’s perimeter gutters and downspout system. While protecting you from rain, this same ceiling system will also provide much needed shade during those “Dog Days” of summer. Homeowners appreciate the fact they can select from a variety of colors and panel profiles to create that showcase quality look that not only enhances their home’s exterior appearance, but also increases the
value of their homes. “But be careful not to confuse Undercover Systems with the competition which uses generic, off-theshelf components purchased from the local big-box retailers,” says local Undercover Systems owner, Jim Conn. “Every system we install is custom engineered, designed and manufactured by Undercover System specifically for your home’s raised deck. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach here at Undercover Systems.” Continued on page 2A ...

Undercover Systems cover article continued ... THE ONLY UNDER DECK CEILING WITH A TRUE LIFETIME WARRANTY Designed to Protect You from Mother Nature
Why Undercover Systems? Simple... We INVENTED it. We PATENTED it. We MAKE it. We STAND BEHIND it. Here are some other important facts to consider when selecting an underdeck roofing system: Please call us for more information so we can show you how to turn » The Undercover System is self-supported by its structurally engineered load bearing your under deck space into beautiful, dry, usable space that lasts a Lifetime. gutter system that attaches to the inside perimeter of the area being covered. » This patented Under-deck Ceiling System does NOT attach to your home’s deck joists – no nailing, stapling or joist modification. » To protect your deck joists, NO water or debris are brought into direct contact with your home’s deck joists. So why are these facts important you might ask? Architecturally recognized to promote the health of your deck, Undercover Systems modular, self-supporting Under-deck Ceiling Systems are designed to maximize the air flow in and around your deck joists ensuring their longevity. Systems that attach directly to deck joists can impair the free flow of air which can dramatically reduce the life of your deck. “We can help you to replace that dark, damp space under your home’s deck with a dry outdoor living space that you and your family can enjoy in every season of life. Why not transform that space into a new outdoor living room or kitchen that blends seamlessly into your home’s exterior and surrounding landscaping?” Say goodbye to that ugly water stained, cobweb underside of your home’s raised deck and hello to your new designer inspired out-of-doors living area DENTAL ARTS with one easy phone call. September Highlights From the Publisher
eptember this year has many changes in store. Not only will the foliage start changing its colors but temperatures will be more moderate. More festivals and venues are opening as compared to last year. We can enjoy live entertainment again and gather with friends. Children will be going back to school. The pandemic has left its mark on all of us and has changed the activities that we have come to enjoy but we still can appreciate the beautiful area we live in and its scenery especially in the Smoky Mountains. We are blessed to live in this special corner of Tennessee. Labor Day is celebrated in September and it signals symbolically the end of summer. Labor Day is a day that is dedicated to the achievements of American workers and the contributions they make to the strength and prosperity of our country and vital to our economy’s recovery. So celebrate and appreciate the American worker. Finally and most importantly, I would like to mention a September day in our history – September 11th. And this year it has special meaning in light of what is happening overseas. We at East Tennessee’s Mountain Views will always remember those that were lost on that fateful September 11th day and those that suffered losses. This September we also want to acknowledge the sacrifice of our troops overseas and all that they have given in service to our country. Let’s not forget this now historic time.

THE LIBRARY CORNER
he Friends of the Tellico Village Library are pleased and very excited to offer the 4B’s Festival (BBQ, BAND, BEER, BOOKS) this year, returning after a year off due to COVID-19. The Festival will be at the Library, 300 Irene Lane, Loudon (Tellico Village) from 4-7 pm on September 18th. Tickets are now on sale at the Library $40 for Friends members and $45 for non-members. Each ticket will entitle you to Buddy’s BBQ and sides, wine and beer, music by Vern Lindsey and the Early Bird Special as well as your choice of 3 books. The Festival is the Library’s main fundraiser helping with the upkeep of Tennessee’s only privately owned library. Despite being open to the public, the Library does not receive funds from county or city governments. The weight is placed on the Friends of the TV Library to raise money to provide for the Library’s many programs, mortgage, utilities,
insurance and building maintenance. Loudon County does pay for the Library manager and a part-time assistant but there is not a government entity to support us. This is our 5th year of the Festival and we know it is going to be even more successful than the previous four. Come and join us for a great afternoon of music, BBQ and beer. The Library is open to the general public and we see a lot of people from Loudon County, however we also see people from Monroe County as well as many visitors from other states. We have a backpack program for children as well as ongoing
classes and lectures for adults. Check our website www.tvlibrary.org for information about upcoming classes/lectures. Our annual book sale has been replaced by 5 mini book sales with the next sale scheduled October 16th, 9am – 12 Noon “Discover a Memoir” featuring memoirs and biographies and a SPECIAL: BOGO on fiction books. A course of Halotherapy is recommended to achieve lasting results for airway cleansing, congestion relief, skin refreshment, and inflammation reduction - not to mention stress relief!
• Wide selection of natural supplements with expert recommendations • Immunizations and travel vaccines • Diet and wellness products
Ce d
Halotherapy comes from the Greek word Halos, meaning Salt. In this therapy, salt is fed through a halogenerator to heat, crush, and grind it into fine particles. Those particles are then dispersed using a dry spray aerosol to be inhaled by the nose and mouth - expelling pollutants and opening breathing passages - or absorbed topically to penetrate skin conditions. This therapy kills bacteria, reduces inflammation, and expands airways to benefit those struggling with: • Breathing issues from allergies, asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, sinus infections, cough, and sinusitis. • Skin conditions including dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, and eczema. • And chronic ailments like ear infections, cystic fibrosis, rhinitis, and ENT issues.

Dentures vs. Implants By Jonathan Bradshaw, DDS
f you are one of the millions of Americans contemplating dentures, there are a variety of factors you should consider before making your decision. The major advantage that dentures have over their alternative implants is cost. But there are other important pros and cons to consider before deciding. Dentures are not permanent and need to be removed for cleaning. Patients often report that dentures feel large, bulky, and unnatural. You may also experience occasional instability, which can lead to dentures becoming dislodged during eating or even while talking. Dentures only deliver 30-40% of normal chewing function, and because they cover large surface areas of your mouth, can influence taste. Dentures also need to be realigned and even remade. Finally, without any replacement of teeth, bone and facial structure loss can continue, often resulting in a slimmer and more aged appearance. Although more expensive in the short term, dental implants may actually prove to be more cost-effective over the long term, particularly when you factor in the quality of life considerations you will likely experience with implants. Dental implants can last a lifetime, are permanent, and remain in your mouth. They both look and feel like your natural teeth, and they restore 90-100% of normal chewing function. Implants preserve bone and prevent jaw bone and facial structure loss. Implanted in your jaws like natural teeth, all you will experience is a beautiful, natural smile and enhanced self-esteem. A third option exists that represents a hybrid alternative involving a combination of implants and dentures. The cost of implant dentures falls between the costs of dentures and full dental implants. With the various options available to patients resulting from the continued advancements in dental medical technology, candidates for dentures and implants are well advised to seek the advice of their family dental professional. At Heritage Family Dentistry in nearby and convenient Farragut, Dr. Jonathan Bradshaw and his team of experienced, caring, and compassionate medical professionals can assist you in making the right choice of dentures or implants, as well as provide family friendly dental care. Heritage Family Dentistry can also assist you with financing to help assure that you receive the dental care you need. Innovative Solutions for Your Kitchen Challenges
Y
ou may have a particular challenge in your kitchen related to storage, organization or access. Luckily, ShelfGenie has some organizational tips and solutions to help transform these frustrations into joy. Issue #1—Deep or Narrow pantry shelves: Deep or narrow pantries make it more difficult to see and access items you’re storing. Grouping items in like categories and keeping frequently used items up front can help. ShelfGenie Glide Out shelves can also help since they pull out the full depth of your pantry, making seeing and retrieving items easier Issue #2—High overhead cabinets: If you have a high cabinet that is hard to reach, consider putting in vertical dividers to use this space to store flat items such as baking sheets and trays. You can reach each
item at the bottom which makes access much easier. Issue #3—Blind corner cabinet: Some homeowners struggle with cabinets that extend back to a corner which makes full access nearly impossible. ShelfGenie has a solution that can increase usable storage space by up to 50 percent and brings items from the back of the cabinet to the cabinet door for more accessibility. Issue #4—Tricky space under the sink: The area under the sink is hard to reach and keep organized. A ShelfGenie under-sink Glide Out with a riser shelf is custom designed to your cabinet to avoid pipes, hoses and the garbage disposal so it maximizes your usable space- and increases access. Issue #5—Hard-to-reach spaces: For those with mobility issues, bending down to grab
pots and pans in lower cabinets can be a real struggle. To make accessing these items easier, ShelfGenie Designers suggest storing heavier items higher up on Glide Out shelves that pull out for easy retrieval. Issue #6—In-the-way trash cans: Keep your trash / recycling out of sight- but always within reach - with a Glide Out trash / recycling unit installed in a lower cabinet. The unit pulls out for easy access and can be attached to the cabinet door for an elegant, functional solution. To bring these solutions to your home and begin turning your frustration into joy, schedule a complimentary in-home consultation with a ShelfGenie Designer today. Enjoy a Superior Holiday Season with Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning By Kerry McDuffie – Owner – Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning
M
any of us have already begun planning for holiday events and family gatherings. As a parent and grandfather, I know just how important this time of the year is but how stressful holiday preparation can be as well. At Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning, we’ve been helping busy families prepare for the holidays for more than 35 years. So why is it important to clean your home’s carpets and Oriental and area rugs before your guests arrive? Well, for starters, to enhance the appearance of every room in your home. Also, if children
and grandchildren play on your rugs and carpeting, you’ll want these surfaces to be as clean and healthy as they can be. There’s also a practical side. Wellmaintained carpets and rugs will not only look better longer, but they’ll also last longer. You see, abrasives, dirt, and other contaminants are tracked into our homes and onto our carpeting and rugs from the bottoms of our shoes and our pet’s feet. Not only do these elements contaminate our carpets and rugs, making them look dull and dingy, but many of these contaminants are abrasive in nature and can permanently damage carpeting and rug fibers. Also, some of these tracked-in elements are snow and ice removal chemicals
that can chemically bond to your home’s carpet and Oriental rug fibers, shortening their life expectancy. Our truck-mounted cleaning system uses today’s state-of-the-art technology to remove dirt and grime that other systems simply leave behind. Also, our Oriental and area rug washing boutique uses an 11-step proprietary cleaning process that can safely clean most rugs that might just become a family heirloom some day. Also, for you dog lovers, if Fido has had an accident on one of your valued Oriental or area rugs, call us immediately. Pet urine alters a rug’s pH and can negatively impact your rug’s color stability, causing color bleeding. So act quickly! Time is
your biggest enemy. If you can use a little help preparing for the holidays this year – and who couldn’t – remember the company who has earned a superior reputation since 1985 for unmatched superior cleaning: Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning. We are so thankful for all our friends like you and your family who have entrusted us to take care of your cleaning needs for more than three decades. May your holiday season be a blessed time with family and friends. Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning 865-691-5686 www.superiorofknoxville.com info@superiorofknoxville.com

Do You Need a Trust in Your Estate Plan?
T
rust or will? It depends. Trusts are commonly used for three primary reasons: (1 privacy, since assets pass directly to your heirs without going through the public probate process, (2 ease and simplicity for your heirs, as assets are quickly and easily passed via the trust, and (3 preserves your ability to control how and when assets are distributed after your passing. A Revocable Living Trust is an example of a flexible trust that can be modified or even closed while you are still alive. It is not a separate legal entity and will not help minimize your income tax or estate tax. If you decide you want to establish a Living Trust, then a competent estate planning attorney is a must. The attorney will draft the trust document according to your

wishes, which will govern how the trust is to be used, both in your lifetime and at your passing. You are typically your own trustee, and you’ll name a back-up trustee in case you’re incapacitated. You’ll also decide how you want the trust assets to be distributed. For example, you might have it pay out to your kids over a certain period of time - allowing them time to mature and to make wise financial decisions. A few caveats to remember: The trust only works for assets titled in the name of the trust. More than one person has come to my office carrying a beautifully written trust document, and they’ve never titled any assets into the name of the trust. It’s empty! Title all of your non-retirement assets into the trust, including bank accounts, non-retirement investment accounts, your home, real estate, titled vehicles, etc. Even if your will says to “pour” any assets accidentally left out of the trust into the trust, your heirs still have to probate the will to get it done. And you just defeated two of the reasons you set up the trust in the first place - privacy and simplicity.
Retirement assets can not be titled in the name of the trust. Instead, the beneficiary of the retirement accounts could become the trust. (Talk to your financial planner or CPA about the tax nuance to do this now that the SECURE Act has changed retirement asset taxation - it gets tricky in a hurry.) Good planning is always worth it - get going! M
usic City’s favorite format for singer songwriters is the model for September’s first Sounds of Summer Show. Sounds of Summer is Athens, Tennessee’s free summer concert series in its ninth season presenting music in Historic Downtown Athens. Presenting partners Friendly City Festivals and Athens Area Council for the Arts are pleased to present ten evenings of live music every other Saturday from MooFest (June 5) to Pumpkintown (October 9) in 2021. Kinslee Melhorn, a Decatur, TN native, who has played most Sounds of Summer festivals was thrilled to headline a concert and eager to bring the Writers in the Round format to the Sounds of Summer stage. “Writers in the Round” is a type of performance popularized by venues such as Nashville’s Bluebird Café, where musicians, often singer-songwriters, take turns performing. Kinslee, a country artist, brings Nashville-area friends Anna McElroy (country singer-songwriter) and She’s Alaska (acoustic pop duo) for an acoustic evening of story and song. Writers in the Round is the only set for the September 11 Sounds of Summer and is 7pm – 8:30pm. The remaining lineup for 2021 Sounds of Summer is as follows with all concerts beginning at 7pm at Market Park Pavilion in Historic Downtown Athens: September 25 – MENDINGWALL, an area favorite, plays Americana originals. October 9 – Chris Hennessee, the acclaimed country artist with regional ties, closes the season at Pumpkintown. Please follow CDC/Health Department recommendations as you decide whether to participate in public events. Friendly City Festivals and Athens Area Council for the Arts are grateful for support from Tennessee Arts Commission and McMinn County Tourism, as well as contributions from corporate and individual sponsors. Please refer to friendlycityfestivals.com for a full list of event sponsors and additional details about Sounds of Summer and other local festivals. Festival updates will also be shared regularly via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/SOSAthensTN.
“Normal” Yet? 10A • East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, September, 2021

uring the recent “life-interrupting” quarantine, we all longed for the routines that had defined our lives such as working out at the gym, eating at a favorite restaurant, going to the movies, singing in the choir, etc. Always inventive, Americans created new routines like shopping online, binge streaming, setting records for falling dominos, uploading more and more cute kitten tricks to YouTube. These diversions and thousands more like them, were never enough, however. We developed a communal nostalgia for “what was” even if “what was” had never been as we remembered. In fact, none of our days had ever been repetitive, living the same thing over and over as if trapped in the movie where every day is Groundhog Day. Our days were and are always characterized by change, surprises and distractions. “No man ever steps in the same river twice” is a saying attributed to Heraclitus, a philosopher from long ago. His pals nicknamed him the “Weeping Philosopher”. They thought his observation that “all is change” was gloomy. They preferred a philosophy that promised certainty and stability. Don’t we all? It would make playing the horses or investing in the market a lot more lucrative. For individuals and institutions, change is the stuff of life. The members of Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church face change in almost every aspect of church life particularly as we resume in-person worship and re-commit ourselves to the many ministries that characterize the congregation. Nothing is exactly the same as it had been eighteen months ago. In some ways we brought that on ourselves by expanding our facilities and our acquisition and use of new technology. Both were responses to change.
On another level, we recognize that the statement, “We always did it that way before” is not just stodgy, it’s also unrealistic and counter-productive. We don’t indict what was done before; we all stand on the shoulders of those who precede us whether in congregations or in public life. We simply recognize the fact that the circumstances and issues we deal with often differ from those that confronted our predecessors. As a congregation, we realize that we haven’t “arrived” at some perfected state of being, we are now and always “becoming”. What we are becoming is informed by our faith and our response to it. Recently, we held a Hymn Sing for our members. It was a first for our congregation and successful, in part, because people had missed communal singing when attending services virtually. We will do it again, incorporate some changes and invite people from the community to join us. Stay tuned. We all deal with change in our personal, work and church lives. We don’t always welcome it but it is the constant in life that good ol’ Heraclitus spoke of. Our congregation has tried to meet change with innovation always in service of our members and our mission. It takes courage to change. At Shepherd of the Lake, we derive our courage from that which never changes and for us, that is the now and forever “normal”. Save the date – The Annual Blessing of the Animals is coming up on Monday, October 4 at 5:30 pm at the Toqua Pavillion in Tellico Village.

uring August, the Good Shepherd Center, which provides free food, clothing and services to Monroe County residents in need, sent out an area-wide mailing launching its Fall fundraiser. “In the past, Good Shepherd sponsored a Silent/Live Auction/Dinner event,” said Board President Margaret Cummings, “but unfortunately, the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic has caused us to cancel the event for the second year in a row and replace it with this mailing. It is our main fundraiser and its success is fundamental to how much we can do to serve our community in the coming year. I urge everyone to keep an eye out for our letter.” What does Good Shepherd Provide? • Our main expense is the overall operation of the Center. Good Shepherd serves approximately 1000 people with 30,000 lbs of food per month. In addition we offer such things as: • The Kid Friendly Food Program offering meals/snacks when school’s out • The Christmas in July Program providing back-to-school clothing • The ETHRA Transportation Program • The Layette Program providing all kinds of items for newborns • The Free Eyeglass Program • The Winter Coat Program “By asking for donations from everyone, we are hoping to build a sense of community,” said Tina Smith, Executive Director of the Good Shepherd Center. “The people of our area have always been outstanding in support of our mission, whether it’s been individually or through their places of work, civic clubs or their church organizations. While the demand is huge, we are always there to provide what we can to those in need.” People can make a one-time donation or a pledge over time: monthly, quarterly, or semi-annually. Any level of donation would be appreciated. Contributions are tax deductible. The Center is a 501 (c) 3 organization. The current campaign will continue through October; however, funds are accepted year long. Donations can be mailed to: The Good Shepherd Center, PO Box 353, 5150 Hwy 411 S, Madisonville, TN 37354. The Center’s phone number is 423-420-8888.

The salon industry as a whole, is still trying to recover from the catastrophic impact of 2020, and most people earning a living in any service industry will cringe at the thought of surviving another bout with The COVID. At this time (August 18, 2021), the current data available suggests that we are in a much better position entering the cold and flu season this year as opposed to last year. Active Brian K. Whitehead cases are way down compared to last year, and Loudon Managing Partner County continues to rank among the top in percentage of The Village Salon population that is fully vaccinated in Tennessee. Our salon continues to apply common sense countermeasures such as sanitized hands between guests, clean work areas, no signatures on credit cards, not allowing staff members to work while sick, and not allowing guests to enter while sick. While the ‘Post COVID’ world we now live in is light years ahead of where we were this time last year, The COVID is here and it’s here to stay. Everyone getting any close contact services should still assess their own risks, and make the best decision they can for themselves. My Teammates and I here at The Village Salon are thankful to have the opportunity to safely serve our community, and we will continue to do so through the thick or the thin of what lies ahead.

Monroe County Friends of Animals D urango is a 9-month-old medium, mixed breed. He is a handsome deaf boy that is full of youthful energy. He watches body language and facial expressions closely to try and please his humans. Durango is smart as a whip, sweet as sugar, and so much fun to spend time with! He loves to play and is incredibly affectionate. Durango will need a patient owner who will be comfortable with learning and teaching hand commands, he will also need a very secure fenced in yard. This fantastic boy cannot hear cars or other dangers so will need very good safety precautions to keep him safe and secure. He is Pets for Patriots qualified. In training a hearing dog, the dog is given verbal cues, followed with a treat reward, then verbal praise. With deaf dog training all cues are visual. So, the first part of training is to get the dog to look at you. This is also one of the first things you train a hearing dog to do! Once you get your deaf dogs attention using visual hand cues, they are ”listening” to you. Visual cues can be as simple as a thumbs- up sign or pointing to your smile when correct
follow through of a command is met. Dewie is an 11-month-old, 45 lb. male, mixed breed. He came in with his “master escape artist” brother. His brother could escape from any fencing options put before him and Dewie would join him for the next big adventure, now their wandering days are over. Dewie is a super sweet, handsome fellow who wants to be in your lap and likes to snuggle. Pinky is a 3-year-old spayed 44 lb. female mixed breed. With her striking tan and white markings and her constantly wagging tail, she is a fun dog to spend
time with. She enjoys time with people and could use a little more training on leash walking. She appears to have selective dog-aggression issues, though it is difficult to fully determine due to the high stress levels of the shelter environment. As with any adoption process, a meeting with your dog is highly suggested. She is Pets for Patriots qualified. Our supplies are VERY low for our pet food pantry and we are reaching out to the community to help. Any donations of puppy and dog and kitten and cat food are needed. Donations can be dropped off at
the Shelter, during shelter hours. We thank you for your kindness and support. Sneak preview… Fall 2021
T
he idea for fall and winter 2021 is casual comfort… Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, fashion had been headed in an overall comfier direction for some time! The athleisure category has held strong for years, and stylish sneakers have overtaken sleek high heels as the footwear of choice for women everywhere. Best of all, there’s now a comfortable look for everyone! Matching lounge sets have become a huge style staple – whether it be funky tie-dye or simple all black, these coordinated outfits can take you from morning errands to afternoon zoom calls with ease. If the matchy-matchy outfits aren’t your thing, an outfit made up of comfortable separates may be the 2021 trend you should explore. Try an “elevated jogger” pant paired with a statement sweater and denim jacket for a perfectly comfortable, but still put together, look!
Of course, all the comfortable outfits for the upcoming season are best paired with sneakers! Whether you choose a simple white, a funky print, a beautiful fall color, or a stylish platform – each sneaker “look” has its place in the fashion world for fall 2021. Of course, we still offer a great selection of dresses, jumpsuits, jackets, and separates that can be pieced together if you are needing an outfit for a special occasion – perhaps a fall wedding or a holiday party. At The Lily Pad, we have evolved with these ever changing times to offer our customers the stylish comfort we are all looking for – and a safe environment to shop in.

Designer-Inspired Closets: Functionality, Convenience and Beauty
s master suites have gotten larger, so have master closets. Gone are the days of a small, reach-in closet. Today’s master closets are about spacious organization and no more fighting over clothing space. It’s been interesting to notice closet trends over the past couple of years. What are today’s trends in the area? The design professionals at Tailored Living of Knoxville have noticed:
Bigger is Better
Besides new home construction that includes larger master closets, during the pandemic many homeowners have chosen to renovate their bedroom suite to create a much larger closet area. Often, two closets are included in the master suite to accommodate separate his and her clothing spaces.
Everyone Loves an Island
If there is enough space, islands are definitely the most requested closet feature. People love having this boutique-inspired element for the extra drawer storage and the horizontal surface to place everyday items like a purse or to use for folding clothing and packing. A walk-in closet needs to measure a minimum of 10’ x 10’ to accommodate an island or peninsula.
Go Neutral
Homeowners are often incorporating bold furniture in their primary bedroom, but in a closet, neutral colors are by far the most popular finishes. Neutral colors such as white, gray and light-colored wood-grain finishes make a smaller space look larger and allows the homeowner to make a big statement with organization, not color.
Decorative Door and Drawer Fronts
The most popular drawer front is currently a Shaker-style. However, using a flat front, which is often less expensive, gives the closet a more modern look. Another popular option is to substitute glass door fronts in the place of solid wood. Each style can give the closet a completely different feel.
TAILORED
TO THE WAY YOU LIVE
Create Flair with Hardware
While the finish may be neutral, adding decorative hardware to drawers will create an eye-catching design element. When you add hardware with an extra pop, you can give a closet a lot of personality.

Jewelry Drawers & Organizers
No more mismatched earrings and tangled necklaces. Velvet-lined jewelry drawers offer scratch-resistant storage for jewelry and other precious items. An optional lock feature provides extra security. While features wanted in a master closet may change over time, the need for an organized space will never change. As one customer said recently, “For the first time in my life I’m organized, a bit trendy, and have the closet of my dreams!” Yes, dreams really do come true.

By Peggy Cones, Owner of Cones Cupboard Antiques
was first introduced to the world of antiques at a very early age by my mother, who instilled in me her passion for antiques. She helped me to discover that the antique world was much different than what most people believe, which is that antiques are comprised mainly of furniture items. And while furniture is an important component of our world of antiques, there are other, and just as exciting, areas just waiting to be discovered by you.
I would like to personally invite you to visit Cones Cupboard Antiques located in the West End Antique Mall in Knoxville, where you’ll discover a treasure trove of antiques, all selected by me personally during my buying trips throughout the United States. I guarantee you that my eclectic collection of antique and vintage furniture, glassware, sterling silver, collectibles and gifts will excite both the newest antique enthusiast and antique aficionado among you . Unlike the traditional “big box” department stores which only offer offshore, mass-produced, generic gift items, Cones Cupboard Antiques features many one of a kind gift ideas that simply aren’t available elsewhere. Truly unique, these gifts will remind family members and friends alike just how much they mean to you and the thought that you put into selecting their gift. And you can also take heart in knowing that your gift may also be destined to become a shared family heirloom. Whether you’re an antique expert or a virtual newcomer, I invite you to visit us at Cones Cupboard Antiques, where you can rediscover or discover for the very first time our world of antiques in the West End Antique Mall in Knoxville. How to Shop for a Range

hopping for a new range can be difficult because there are so many variables in modern day ranges. Ask yourself some questions before you start looking around: Do you utilize the cooktop most, or are you more likely to bake and broil? How many burners do you want, and do you want a convection oven? You also want to consider which type of range to get - freestanding or slide-in. While these can be interchangeable, the biggest difference is where the control panel is. Slide-ins typically have the panel along the front, while freestanding ranges have it above the back of the appliance. Let’s take a look at some great ways to figure out which range works best in your kitchen and lifestyle. Range Cooktop Technology There are three main cooktop types: • Gas - Heated with natural gas or propane. • Radiant - Heated with electricity. • Induction - Heated with a magnetic field and specialized cookware. So how do you make a choice from the different types of range cooktops? First, you’ll want to check out the burners.
Some ranges have the typical 4 burners, while others have 4 burners and a Keep Warm zone, which can be used to keep food hot without scorching it or causing it to boil over (sometimes one burner will have the option to also operate on a Keep Warm setting). You can also find 5 burner ranges, and some cooktops have a double or triple burner that allows you to use different-sized pots or pans on that one burner. Some burners might even be specifically labeled for simmering or melting. Radiant and induction cooktops measure the heat of their burners in watts. Induction ranges heat up much faster than radiant cooktops, so for electric burners, remember that the higher the wattage, the more powerful the burner is. You also want to look for low temperature settings, such as the aforementioned simmer, melt, and warming burners. For gas cooktops, burner power is measured in BTUs (or British Thermal Units). Burners capable of over 15,000 BTUs are powerful, and some modern day cooktops have 20,000 BTU burners to make cooking easier and faster. Look for a gas range with 2 burners at 15,000 BTU or higher, and two low heat burners. For simmering,
that means 1,200 - 1,300 BTUs, and for melting, 500 - 600 BTUs. Range Maintenance One often overlooked, but very common, kitchen issue is ventilation. While using your range, you’re going to release a lot of smoke, steam, grease, and odors into your house, let alone the heat caused by cooking. Gas ranges are the biggest heat producing range, so ventilation is especially important for them. If your range is up against your wall, it’s easy to get a hood or over-the-range microwave to get that stuff out, but if your range is in an island or peninsula, downdraft vents are a great option. Some ranges have a builtin downdraft vent, but even if it doesn’t, there are external downdrafts that can be added to make your cooking experience that much better. As for cleaning your oven, most ovens with a self-cleaning feature simply heat up to an incredibly high temperature and reduce any leftover food spillage into ash. It works well, but your oven will get extremely hot and stay that way for a few hours. This can be pretty tough on your range, so other self-cleaning options, such as Steam Cleaning or Aqualift cleaning (Whirlpool’s version of Steam Cleaning) are available
on other ranges. While these are gentler on your range, these cleaning cycles need to be done more frequently and don’t give quite the same cleaning performance. Range Features One highly-enjoyed modern-day range feature is the convection oven. Every oven has a bottom bake element (usually hidden) and a top broil element to cook their food, but with convection, there’s a third element in the back of the oven with a fan facing in. Benefits of convection include more even baking, faster cooking, and less energy waste. Other range features are usually more obvious than the convection oven, which is only visible inside your range. You can also find ranges with extra oven racks, double oven ranges (with the second oven on top or to one side of the appliance), and ranges operating on dual fuel (such as an electric range with a gas cooktop). Some ranges even come with a cooking accessory such as a griddle that can be used right on the cooktop. Pattersons Home Appliance Center 10640 Kingston Pike 865-694-4181 www.pattersonsappliances.com

Prevent a Family Boat Dock Tragedy
A
recent article in BoatUS describes how two young friends, boys ages 10 and 11, drowned in Cherokee Lake. Sadly they died from Electric Shock Drowning or ESD. ESD occurs when low levels of A/C current enter the water from faulty electrical wiring on family docks and boats. This current incapacitates a swimmer, causing them to drown. It also poses a significant health risk to those attempting to rescue these individuals. The article went on to say that as many as 7 other swimmers were reportedly drowned from ESD nationally during this same summertime period and that there were probably at least as many near misses. It is also likely that other ESD drownings occurred but went unidentified as such. Electric Shock Drownings have been likened to entering a bathtub with an electric hair dryer in your hand. “L
iving the Dream” is an idiom often used by people in response to the question, “How are things going?” Usually this response is uttered satirically, suggesting that we’re far from living our dreams. But I’m here to tell you that can live your dream. And your response to the question, “How are things going?” doesn’t have to be that typical whimsical retort. Rest assured that some rain will fall on all our lives from time to time. But living the dream isn’t an accident. Living the dream is the result of careful planning and the implementation of a well thought out strategy designed to take full advantage of those objectives you’ve worked decades to achieve, as well as providing for those occasional rains that will require skillful navigation to lessen their impact on our lives. As a young man growing up in East Tennessee, my plans for the future were in their early and informative years. I continue to be surrounded by many wonderful people who have helped to shape who I have become and who will continue to influence me in the future. I love the community in which I live, work and raise our family. I have a passion to see our community prosper as well as its people. In looking back nearly 2 decades now, perhaps it wasn’t a surprise that I chose a career as a financial advisor. Financial planning has provided me with the unique opportunity to help those I care so much about to pursue their dreams. I can’t begin to tell you how rewarding my career has become as I discovered that by helping others to work towards their dreams, that I would fulfill my goal of living my own dream. I have been rewarded far more than I could have imagined by the knowledge that Fairweather Financial has helped so many of its friends and neighbors to discover the rich and fulfilling future that awaits them. If you’re like me and believe that you too deserve to achieve your own American dream, than I would like to personally invite you to call me and to set up your no cost or obligation consultation. By asking the right questions, by listening carefully and by implementing a well thought out financial strategy for your future, you too could be well on your way to living your dream.

Part Two
s we described last month, in the August 2021 issue of East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, hearing loss is increasingly becoming more of a problem in the United States as large numbers of Baby Boomers retire every day. Because hearing loss is often gradual, it can go undetected for long periods of time. We may feel that others are speaking too quickly or perhaps are mumbling. Untreated, those experiencing hearing loss may begin to feel a sense of isolation and may elect to reduce their social interactions. And those with more severe hearing loss can actually experience speech impairment when left untreated. Thanks to today’s exciting new advances in hearing aid technology, more and more people are overcoming hearing loss allowing them to maintain their healthy and active lifestyles. The solution to hearing loss is education. Information can help us to overcome both hearing loss and other related problems. In this month’s issue of East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, we are pleased to bring you Part Two of our recent interview with Tellico Hearing Solutions owner and founder Robert Ferraro. As you will recall, Robert’s interest in hearing aid technology first began when he and his wife, Connie, learned that he was experiencing hearing loss. If you are experiencing hearing loss or have a loved one or close friend that is, we hope you will find this feature helpful. Here is the second part of that interview. ETMV: Robert, remind our readers again about your own hearing loss experience. Robert: My hearing loss started a few years ago. I was straining to hear everything that others were saying. I began to tune-out in social settings and missed much of the conversations. It was just too tiring to try to keep up. I had to constantly ask people to speak louder or to repeat themselves. Connie was also telling me that the TV and radio were too loud. We connected the dots and decided it was time to have my hearing examined. My first set of hearing aids was like a reawakening. It opened an entirely new world to me. I couldn’t believe how much of life I had been missing. ETMV: You stated previously that your own hearing loss was what lead you to pursue a career as a Hearing Instrument
Specialist. Explain. Robert: Hearing “normally” again had an incredible impact my life. It really opened my eyes, or should I say ears? It created a new awareness. I came to realize that there are literally millions of other Americans just like me experiencing hearing loss which is going undiagnosed, and worse, untreated. The solution to hearing loss and a full and productive life is within everyone’s grasp. I made a major decision to go back to school to become licensed and certified in Tennessee to be able to test peoples’ hearing, and if appropriate for them, fit them with proper hearing aid devices. Look, today’s hearing instruments are extremely sophisticated and each person’s needs are unique. At Tellico Hearing Solutions we have the required technical expertise, but more importantly, my own personal hearing loss experience helps us to truly relate to each and every patient on a level that others simply can’t. ETMV: Today’s hearing instruments are unlike those used in the past. Why? Robert: Technology. Today’s hearing instruments possess technological advances unheard of just a few short years ago. Miniaturization has made them virtually undetectable and technology has made them adaptive, enabling them to adapt to ever changing environments. We can even help you to make refinements to your hearing instruments remotely without having to leave your home. Our clients are also surprised to learn that our hearing instruments can reduce the severity of tinnitus that many experience. ETMV: What’s the next step for someone who thinks they might be experiencing hearing loss? Robert: Avoid inaction. The sooner you act, the better the outcome. Untreated, hearing loss can negatively impact you in so many more ways than you might imagine. Remember, I’m not only a licensed and certified Hearing Instrument Specialist, but I also overcame my hearing loss. Won’t you let me help you to rediscover a full and productive life? Why not call me today! Tellico Hearing Solutions, PLLC 865-635-1887 contact@TellicoHearingSolutions.com www.tellicohearingsolutions.com

Dress Your Windows in Function and Style! Windows can be complicated to address. The shape of the window, privacy or light concerns, energy savings, or the aesthetics of the window, are all considerations we take when dressing your home's windows. As custom window treatments professionals, we tailor custom window treatments for each window so they'll fit perfectly and give you the one of a kind look that fits your style. Draperies add texture, softness, and elegance to a space. Without them, a room can often feel unfinished and even cold. From a practical standpoint, they can help filter or block light, unsightly views, and noise.
ike other area boaters, we frequently see boats in docks, both private and some community docks that are protected by the Touchless Boat Cover System. The concept is a simple one...create a garage for your boat that protects your watercraft like your home’s garage protects your vehicles. So we installed a new Touchless Boat Cover System last summer, redirecting a portion of the money we saved from a canceled 2020 Mediterranean cruise. Well the proof as they say is in the pudding. When we opened up our boat for the beginning of the 2021 boating season, we were pleasantly surprised. And although we had considered using our old boat cover as added protection, we avoided the temptation. We simply pressed our Touckless key fob and our boat, which was detailed last summer, appeared, looking showroom new. No bird droppings and no spiders. We lowered our boat lift, turned on the battery, started the blower and after the required interval, started our engine. We were off for an enjoyable day on the lake.

In the Garden by
Lisa Grugin
all is in the air! How are things going in your yard? This is a great time to reevaluate and make plans for next year because you can see what did well and what didn’t. What would you like to be different about next year’s garden? Do you want to add, subtract, multiply, or divide? There is some math required! September is a busy time in the garden because it is when we start preparing it for fall and winter. Here are things that you need to do this month: » Do your walk around and check into all the areas that you have ignored while it was hot. 1. Look up to see how trees are faring. Are canopies sparse with dropping leaves? Are there broken, damaged, or diseased branches? Do you have oozing spots, sawdust, or a lot of woodpecker holes? How about shelf mushrooms? All of these are indications that a tree is stressed and may have a disease or insect problem. 2. Look down to ground level. Do you have mole tunnels or small tunnel entrances that indicate mole and/or vole problems? Are skunks, possums, and other critters digging up your lawn to get to grubs? How are annuals and perennials doing? What is going on in your vegetable garden? 3. Look into your trees and shrubs to check for signs of disease and insects. Plants that have struggled may need a systemic product applied so that problems don’t overwinter in them and reappear next year. » Did you grow vegetables this year? How was it? Make notes of what varieties you tried and where they were planted so that you can “crop rotate” next year. Yes, you still have to do that in raised beds. Diseases build up in the soil if you do not. If your vegetable beds have stopped producing, clean them out and plant fall veggies. You can also add
compost, manure, or leaf mold to improve your soil for next year. » Many of us had problems with fungus and insects this year, as we do every year. Our long growing season also means we have a long breeding season. Please be sure to get up all the fallen leaves and plant debris from problem plants so insects and fungal spores can’t overwinter. Evergreens can still be treated if necessary, but it is a waste of money to treat deciduous trees and shrubs that will not re-grow leaves now anyway. » If your annuals look terrible, remove and compost them. Impatiens and begonias in particular should be pulled before a frost, because they will turn to mush if they freeze. Swap them for cool season annuals or perennials. » If you are not going to refill your containers, dump out old soil and store them in a dry area. This is particularly important for terra cotta or low fired ceramics that will not withstand freezing temperatures. » If you need to divide and/or transplant perennials, September is a good month to do spring blooming or fleshy rooted (peonies, iris, etc.) perennials. » Don’t be embarrassed by plant failure,

Your yard/garden is a living thing, and all living things change. Some things thrive and some don’t, so just roll with it and look at “failures” as an opportunity to try something different! » Before I finish, I would like to talk a little about mums. 1. There are some lovely perennial mums (which now have the botanical name of Dendranthema), but they aren’t the colorful balls that you see everywhere this time of year. Those are hybrids, and they may or may not come back. They may also come back a different color or as dozens of little “mumlets” instead of a single plant. If you want to try to get them to come back, plant in the ground by mid-September so they can get roots down before a freeze. 2. Mums have a 4-6 week bloom time
that is made shorter by heat and longer by cool weather. If your neighbor has a mum that lasts the entire fall, it isn’t real! They are still fairly cheap, so buy them when you are ready and then compost them and buy another when they fade. » Pansies are cool weather plants and like to go in the ground mid to late September. Don’t plant too early or they will stretch. Don’t plant too late or they won’t have time to get established. If you have questions, give us a call. I encourage you to stop by and see all the wonderful things we have for fall. Beautiful gardens begin at Meadow View! “Garage Flooring: What to Know Before You Invest”
F
or the past several years homeowners have been investing in garage floor coatings and the trend continues to grow. A recent industry report showed that consumer demand for garage flooring has increased almost 20% during the past two years. Since a garage floor takes more daily abuse than any other floor in the home, it should be beautiful, yet tough enough to handle hot tires from cars, trucks and motorcycles. However, all garage floor coatings are definitely not created equal. Most large home improvement stores sell DIY epoxy garage floor kits. These kits often consist of relatively inexpensive, water-based epoxies, which make good basecoats. However, they do not include a high-performance urethane topcoat or proper concrete preparation, causing the flooring system to fail prematurely. PremierGarage of Knoxville, the area’s flooring experts, says your garage floor coating should include these important industry practices: Grind Preparation, Not Acid Wash
A significant factor in the longevity of a concrete coating is the preparation of the floor. It requires a surface texture that promotes a strong bond between the epoxy and the floor surface. Grinding creates the correct surface texture for the base coat to adhere to the concrete. Some companies try to acid wash floors, which is a less-expensive method, but it does not create a good bond, resulting in a much lower bond strength and much higher probability of floor failure.
Full Flake Coverage, Not Partial The amount of flake broadcast into the epoxy not only has a decorative purpose, but it also has a functional purpose. Decorative flakes actually make the epoxy layer thicker and act as an additional bonding agent. Since the flakes are more flexible, it can help prevent chipping when objects are dropped onto it. Saturating the base coat with the flakes makes it up to three times thicker than if someone “sprinkled” flakes onto a solid epoxy color. Commercial-Grade Top Coat Using a high-quality, commercial-grade polyurethane topcoat is vital so the floor stands up to hot tires and dropped tools for many years. Polyurethane provides chemical, slip, UV and scratch resistance, as well as gloss retention. It also reduces allergens by resisting the growth of microorganisms. The non-porous coating cures to twice as hard as traditional epoxies, making the garage floor resistant to gasoline, auto fluids, paint thinner, pesticides and other household chemicals that can destroy inferior epoxy finishes. Call PremierGarage of Knoxville to help you create a long-lasting garage floor. Then add custom garage cabinets and other storage solutions to turn your garage into your favorite spot in the home. oday, thanks to enhanced cleaning technologies and new and improved synthetic carpet fibers, we are able to clean your home’s wall-to-wall carpeting and Oriental rugs more effectively and efficiently then ever before. But the technologies used to clean carpeting and to wash Oriental rugs are as different as night and day. While carpeting is manufactured primarily from synthetic fibers, their cousins, the Oriental rugs, continue to be hand-crafted using the same all-natural materials that have been used for centuries. Their wool and cotton construction and natural dyes, while durable, make them susceptible to permanent damage if washed improperly. At Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning, we have pioneered a proprietary 11-step Oriental rug washing system that is the result of my more than 35 years of carpet and rug washing experience. Our system not only thoroughly washes your Oriental rugs, but it also protects them from the damage that can result from improper handling and cleaning by inexperienced tradesmen. We’re proud of our proprietary Oriental rug washing system and even more proud of our most recent investments in the latest advances in Oriental rug washing technology that makes Knoxville’s best Oriental rug washing boutique even better. We recently installed the new Marinator Decon System that allows us to circulate up to 80 gallons of solution per minute throughout your entire rug, leaving your rug cleaner than ever before. We have also installed the all new Centrum Force Rug Wash Floor that allows us to thoroughly rinse your rugs using pure, 100% treated water, and not recycled water. Think of it as a shower rather than a bath. Our nearly 4 decades of delivering a Superior level of customer service, and our continued investments in new state-of-the-art technologies, underscore our commitment to you to remain the very best Oriental rug washing service in East Tennessee. hoosing Keener Homes to build our retirement dream home in Tellico Village was a great decision. We interviewed numerous builders in the area and decided to go with Kit Keener as we toured some of their new builds and completed homes. We were very impressed with the attention to details and quality of workmanship. Kit was a pleasure to work with and answered all of our questions and took our design changes in stride. Derek Miller, the project manager, was awesome to deal with. He was right on top of things, returned phone calls promptly and made great suggestions. He went above and beyond. Krisha, the office manager, communicated with us on a weekly basis so we knew what was going on with suppliers and invoicing. She was so easy to talk to, is detail oriented and caring. www.keenerhomes.net | 865-458-1759 Don and I would218 highly recommend Kit andLoudon, his team. t is estimated that lightning strikes occur 25 million times a year in North America resulting in $5 billion in property damage. Do you think that lightning can’t strike your home? What are the odds? Think again. In just the last several months, lighting has struck two homes in Rarity Bay. One home was a total loss. The other home, which was under construction, sustained fire damage. Fortunately there were no injuries or fatalities. The solution is easier than you might imagine. Acting on the recommendation of a neighbor whose home was next door to one of the two lightning strikes I mentioned earlier, I contacted William Burden at WB Lightning Rods at (321) 217-3438. This three generation old, family owned business, has been in business since 1950. Rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau and a National Fire Protection Association member, WB Lightning Rods installed air terminals (rods) on our roof which were connected to down connectors (cables) which in turn where connected to copper grounding rods. So just how does this system work? It’s quite simple actually. The system provides a pathway for lightning to be safely dissipated to the system’s grounding rods. Installed in about 4 hours, this system will provide you with the peace of mind you deserve. This lightning protection system is an inexpensive alternative to the loss of a home, personal possessions, injuries or worse. To learn more call William Burden at WB Lightning Rods at (321) 217-3438 today.

Have You Ever Been Stoned? 10B • East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, September, 2021
By david Brewster, Owner of Aqua Clear Water Systems, LLC
W
e aren’t talking about laughing on the floor in your freshman college dorm room stoned. We’re talking about crying on the toilet, questioning if you are dying, stoned. Kidney stones hurt! Ask a person who has experienced them to rank it on a pain scale of 1 to 10, and they’ll tell you it’s off the chart. Women will tell you it’s more painful than childbirth. Based on that, I want to do everything I can to NOT be
the 1 out of 10 humans that pass a stone in their lifetime. You, too? Then, what could we do to prevent that? Doctors will tell you the most important prevention method is drinking PLENTY of water to flush your kidneys! Except the doctors forgot to tell you one very important fact: The QUALITY of your water matters. Think about it. If your body is producing kidney stones, which are made up of calcium shards, wouldn’t it make
sense to drink water that’s calcium-free? Hard water is Miracle-Gro for kidney stones. If you look under your refrigerator water dispenser, you’d likely see white build-up, which is a sign your water is full of dissolved rock. If this build-up is calcifying over your showerheads, faucets, fridge water dispenser, and coffee maker, what do you think it is doing to your “internal body pipes?” A PubMed article performed a “dou-

ble-blind randomized trial” with 18 chronic kidney stone patients. In this experiment, one group drank hard water and the other soft water. Do you know what they found? In the patients who drank hard water, there was a 50% increase in the urinary calcium concentration and a 300% increase in the calcium-citrate index. So, what’s the solution? To drink pure water! Most of us believe bottled water is “pure.” However, most have mineral additives in them. So if you’re sick of lugging around those cheap, single-use plastic water bottles that aren’t really pure, you should invest in your own “bottled water factory!” For as low as $1 a day, you can have 4,000 purified water bottles at your kitchen sink! Aqua Clear Water Systems can help you do that. We have installed more than 30,000 pieces of water filtration equipment over 25+ years. One client had suffered 71 stones in 1 year, but after installing our system, they NEVER had a stone again. Talk about “Changing Water, Changing Lives!” So what are you waiting for? It doesn’t cost you a dime to have a conversation with us. We’d love to credit your account $200 just because we can’t wait to hear your kidney stone success story. Give us a call today, and it could change your health for the better! Aqua Clear Water Systems 1767 Kevin Lane Lenoir City, TN 37772 865-213-1139 www.aquaclearws.com

Incorporate the Beauty and Sustainability of Reclaimed Wood Into Your Story
T
By Jenny Blalock – Owner – Plantation Reclaimed
he barns of yesterday are pieces of living history and they still have a story to share. At Knoxville based Plantation Reclaimed, we are dedicated to the preservation of our remaining old growth forests, believing they should be left as a legacy to our future. That’s why all of our unique wood comes from abandoned farms, warehouses and other structures as much as 200 years old. Not only is it environmentally responsible to recycle antique lumber, but the sheer beauty and patina from reclaimed wood just can’t be replicated. Reclaimed wood is the best way to recycle wooden articles from old, unused, dilapidated or just plain neglected barns, warehouses, etc. The recycling of antique lumber leads to a decline in the demand for new wood from our already endangered forests. There is a multitude of ways of using reclaimed wood, most of the times in building portions of new homes. Whether it’s rebuilding your urban home to give it a rustic feel or building a new home or a country cabin in the woods, nothing can replace the aged feel and color tone of reclaimed wood. Everyone loves the warmth and homey feel that a great hardwood floor provides. Well, at Plantation Reclaimed, we believe that solid wood creates the very best flooring surface. There are various types of woods that will provide character to any area of the home. Tobacco Road is one such type wood, which was used during the 19th and early 20th century. Farmers, primarily tobacco farmers, living in the most fertile valleys of Pennsylvania, used a mixture of wood species to create siding and roof rafters for their barns, where they would dry their harvest. Over time the character of the wood occurred from weathering and staining. Hence, wood reclaimed from these barns is termed Tobacco Road. The Southern Reclaimed Heart Pine, recognized by its rich yellow tone and the best in grain quality, is an ode to the American manufacturing era. These were the beams found in most of the largest manufacturing mills of this country. The mighty oak tree has provided the planks and beams used to create our symbolic American barns for centuries. Resawn beams from the oldest of these barns are used to create the incredible looking oak hardwood wide planks that will provide your home with the unique feeling of warmth that it deserves. Solid wood mantels provide that much needed character and style to your fireplace. Built with reclaimed wood, these mantels offer an all natural look that will become a featured focal point. Hand-hewn antique mantels are sourced from wood that were aged naturally over decades and centuries as structural timbers. Many still bear the hand-tool marks from when they were cut and shaped. Other rough sawn antique mantels bear the marks of both early two-man crosscut saws and axes reminiscent of our pioneer past. Our mantels are a living legacy to our early pioneering history and our long tradition of American wood craftsmanship.
Our selection of antique barn sidings, which feature rusty nail holes and deep weathered textures, offer you the opportunity to create the look of unparalleled and ageless beauty that simply cannot be matched by any other building material. Planks can be found in various colors and appearances, ranging from grey-brown antique barn siding, to the faded grey barn siding, to the all-naturally faded red barn siding, and finally the faced-planed exterior barn siding. Contact us today to see how you can incorporate reclaimed wood products into your home or business. Reclaimed lumber from Plantation Reclaimed will certainly add one-of-a-kind, unique character to any area of your home!
