Transform Your Garage with the Industry Leader Volume 21, No. 10, Section A

very homeowner experiences the periodic urge to get things reorganized at home. Oh sure, we make our daily attempts to keep things neat and orderly, but good intentions, and an accumulation of new “stuff,” just seem to overwhelm even our best efforts. So when we finally decide to clear the inside clutter in our house, our garages often end up bearing the brunt of our efforts by becoming the repository of everything imaginable that doesn’t fit inside the house. You know, everything that’s just too good to donate or throw out. And if you’re a saver, the challenge takes on an even larger dimension.

If this sounds familiar and you are confronted with the decision to exit your car through the sunroof because all the stuff in your garage won’t allow you to fully open your car doors, or you’re forced to park your vehicle outside on the drive, then

you need to call PremierGarage, the nation’s leader in garage enhancements and remodeling. Serving area homeowners since 2006, PremierGarage of Knoxville has been helping homeowners win the battle over their messy garages by offering

From beautiful and durable garage flooring that eliminates your dirty, dingy garage floor, to their custom cabinetry and organizational systems that create spaces for all your essentials, PremierGarage has helped homeowners reimagine their cluttered garages, creating clean and efficient spaces that were once a source of embarrassment. In this recent interview with PremierGarage of Knoxville, you will discover how to transform your own garage by trusting the leader in garage organization. We hope that you will find this interview insightful and inspirational as you reimagine you own garage space. ETMV: Please provide our readers with an overview of the products and services PremierGarage offers area homeowners. messiest area of the house, into clean, efficient spaces. Our garage floor coating is the most durable in the industry and our organizational systems are designed for the weather extremes of a garage. Our cabinets withstand the heavy loads we all demand of our garage storage and they withstand temperature extremes. ETMV: Most homeowners who are familiar with PremierGarage associate your brand with garage floor coatings. As it relates to garage flooring, why is PremierGarage floor coating better than other systems? PremierGarage: There is a lot of technology involved in garage floor coatings, and as technology changes, so has the system PremierGarage offers. We provide the toughest floor coating available. Since a garage floor takes more daily abuse than any other floor in the home, it should be beautiful yet tough enough to handle our cars, trucks and motorcycles. Our technicians start by diamond-grinding the floor to remove oil and grease stains, and any old coatings, to the ideal surface condition to achieve a permanent chemical bond between the concrete and basecoat. We also fix any minor cracks or spalding in the concrete. After applying the base coat and a full-broadcast of color chips, the industrial-grade hybrid polymer topcoat, which is manufactured exclusively for PremierGarage, is applied. Our topcoat is twice as hard as other epoxy finishes. It is designed to stand up to the extreme heat and friction of tires. The flooring has a 10year warranty and is resistant to chipping, peeling, abrasions and fading. It’s like armor for your concrete floor, and best of all, clean up requires only a hose or mop. The floor will look new for years to come. ETMV: Some homeowners have become familiar with the DIY garage floor coating systems available at the big home improvement box stores. What’s the difference between DYI and your floor coating? PremierGarage: While do-it-yourself epoxy kits are widely available and easy to work with, the down side is it’s time consuming and many things can go wrong when applying the coating. The epoxy may not set properly or have a weak bond to the concrete, and it takes a long time for the epoxy to dry and bond to the floor. The

Before

cost of epoxy is initially less expensive, but epoxy also quickly delaminates when a vehicle’s hot tires bond to the surface and peel it away from the concrete. Our coatings are the most-advanced, fastest-curing system in concrete flooring technology. Our industrial-grade coating provides better protection than epoxy against chemicals commonly found in garages, like gasoline, auto fluids and paint thinner. Its chemistry makes it more flexible and up to 20 times stronger than epoxy flooring. ETMV: Over the years PremierGarage has expanded its garage organizational products and services. Describe the PremierGarage turnkey experience.

PremierGarage: We help homeowners reclaim wasted space in their garage. With our warranted floor coating and garage storage, homeowners can depend on PremierGarage to take care of all their needs inside of the garage. We also own Tailored Living of Knoxville, which designs and installs custom-designed storage throughout the house. One company. One phone call. And we don’t sub out any of our work. All of our install teams are employed by PremierGarage and Tailored Living of Knoxville. ETMV: Many homeowners think your garage floor coating system is used primarily to resurface old, unsightly

garage floors. In fact, a growing number of homeowners are choosing to coat their new surfaces as well. Explain. PremierGarage: Whether it’s a new house or it was built decades ago, we put our garage floor coating down in all ages of homes. The floor coating not only makes your garage look more attractive, it also decreases the amount of dirt and dust you track into your house. It also creates a slip-resistant surface, reducing the chances of accidents when the floor is wet. The coating is also antibacterial, stain-resistant, and nontoxic. And as many of our customers have realized, our flooring and cabinets help increase the value of their homes. ETMV: Describe the homeowner experience once they contact PremierGarage? PremierGarage: One of our consultants will call you back, usually within two hours, to schedule a free onsite no-cost, no-obligation consultation and estimate. At the consultation, the consultants listen to the specific needs and issues of the homeowner. Listening to our customers is extremely important. Customers choose from several flooring colors and cabinet finishes that work best for their home and style. The consultant calculates the square footage of the flooring and carefully measures the layout of the garage to develop an organizational system that best fits the space and the customer’s needs. The flooring quote is estimated onsite and often the layout of the cabinets and slatwall, which are designed on our 3-D cad software, is emailed to the homeowner within 24 to 48 hours. Of course, we continue to work with the customer to tweak designs so we can create a system that meets their needs and budget. ETMV: Is there anything else you would like to add in closing? PremierGarage: We have grown our business by maintaining a sharp focus on providing good customer service. We truly love helping people make their garages more organized and functional with a showroom-quality floor. We love what we do and it shows. October Highlights From the Publisher

his time of year I really enjoy living with a view of the Smoky Mountain National Forest. The trees are just starting to show a change in colors and soon the whole landscape will be transformed with all the golds, reds, oranges and browns of autumn. If you have never experienced a drive along the Cherohala Skyway in the fall, then you need to make it a priority to take a trip this season. The Skyway is gorgeous in autumn and there are a number of scenic overlooks that drivers can stop and view the mountains in their entire splendor. Be sure to make a stop at Bald River Falls on your way along the drive to see one of the many waterfalls in the area. Also the pre-holiday season has begun and from now until January, activities will be focused on holiday events and preparations. From October’s Halloween parties, November’s Thanksgiving family dinners to December’s Christmas gift exchanges and New Years’ celebrations, it is a very busy three months. And all our advertisers help to make your preparations less stressful by highlighting products and services that will enhance your holiday time with friends and family. Holidays are traditionally times we open our homes to friends and family and we want our homes to look their holiday best. October is a great time to prepare your home for guests whether it be a new look for your kitchen or just cleaning all your rugs so they look their best. We have these home products and services plus much more highlighted in this edition. So enjoy the fall weather, the fall colors and the fall events that East Tennessee has to offer. It’s the best time of year!

his donation of funds was a gift by American Legion Post 256 members to honor the passing of Roger McKnight of Tellico Village. In 2003, McKnight and 65 other veterans chartered Tellico Lake Post 256 of the Amrerican Legion. Those 65 veterans came from Tellico Village, Vonore, Greenback, Kahite, Rarity Bay and other parts of the surrounding community. Roger McKnight was a WWII veteran, a volunteer firefighter/first responder and a pillar of the community. It was because of his dedication to service and community that the members of Post 256 wanted to further his memory with this donation to Our PLACE. Accepting the donation for Our PLACE was Cynthia Rogers, spouse of deceased Jim

Rogers, a member of Post 256. Our PLACE will be a licensed, non-profit, non-sectarian adult day center serving residents of Loudon and Monroe counties who have been diagnosed with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. The new building is located opposite Food Lion at the intersection of SR 444 and SR 72 in Loudon. Besides allowing home caregivers some free time each day, participants will be offered a different program of activities suited to their abilities. These activities are designed to promote socialization and stimulation and may include music, exercise, crafts, games, pet therapy, reminiscence therapy and more. Innovative Solutions for Your Kitchen Challenges

Y

ou may have a particular challenge in your kitchen related to storage, organization or access. Luckily, ShelfGenie has some organizational tips and solutions to help transform these frustrations into joy. Issue #1—Deep or Narrow pantry shelves: Deep or narrow pantries make it more difficult to see and access items you’re storing. Grouping items in like categories and keeping frequently used items up front can help. ShelfGenie Glide-Out shelves can also help since they pull out the full depth of your pantry, making seeing and retrieving items easier Issue #2—High overhead cabinets: If you have a high cabinet that is hard to reach, consider putting in vertical dividers to use this space to store flat items such as baking sheets and trays. You can reach each

item at the bottom which makes access much easier. Issue #3—Blind corner cabinet: Some homeowners struggle with cabinets that extend back to a corner which makes full access nearly impossible. ShelfGenie has a solution that can increase usable storage space by up to 50 percent and brings items from the back of the cabinet to the cabinet door for more accessibility. Issue #4—Tricky space under the sink: The area under the sink is hard to reach and keep organized. A ShelfGenie under-sink Glide-Out with a riser shelf is custom designed to your cabinet to avoid pipes, hoses and the garbage disposal so it maximizes your usable space- and increases access. Issue #5—Hard-to-reach spaces: For those with mobility issues, bending down to grab

pots and pans in lower cabinets can be a real struggle. To make accessing these items easier, ShelfGenie Designers suggest storing heavier items higher up on Glide-Out shelves that pull out for easy retrieval. Issue #6—In-the-way trash cans: Keep your trash / recycling out of sight- but always within reach - with a Glide-Out trash / recycling unit installed in a lower cabinet. The unit pulls out for easy access and can be attached to the cabinet door for an elegant, functional solution. To bring these solutions to your home and begin turning your frustration into joy, schedule a complimentary in-home consultation with a ShelfGenie Designer today. East Tennessee’s Best Oriental Rug Washing Boutique Just Got Better By Kerry McDuffie – Owner – Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning

T

oday, thanks to enhanced cleaning technologies and new and improved synthetic carpet fibers, we are able to clean your home’s wall-to-wall carpeting and Oriental rugs more effectively and efficiently then ever before. But the technologies used to clean carpeting and to wash Oriental rugs are as different as night and day. While carpeting is manufactured primarily from synthetic fibers, their cousins, the Oriental rugs, continue to be hand-crafted using the same all-natural materials that

have been used for centuries. Their wool and cotton construction and natural dyes, while durable, make them susceptible to permanent damage if washed improperly. At Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning, we have pioneered a proprietary 11-step Oriental rug washing system that is the result of my more than 35 years of carpet and rug washing experience. Our system not only thoroughly washes your Oriental rugs, but it also protects them from the damage that can result from improper handling and cleaning by inexperienced tradesmen. We’re proud of our proprietary Oriental

rug washing system and even more proud of our most recent investments in the latest advances in Oriental rug washing technology that makes Knoxville’s best Oriental rug washing boutique even better. We recently installed the new Marinator Decon System that allows us to circulate up to 80 gallons of solution per minute throughout your entire rug, leaving your rug cleaner than ever before. We have also installed the all new Centrum Force Rug Wash Floor that allows us to thoroughly rinse your rugs using pure, 100% treated water, and not recycled water. Think of it as a shower rather than a bath.

Our nearly 4 decades of delivering a Superior level of customer service, and our continued investments in new stateof-the-art technologies, underscore our commitment to you to remain the very best Oriental rug washing service in East Tennessee. Discover for yourself just how East Tennessee’s proprietary, 11-step Oriental rug washing system just got better. Halotherapy comes from the Greek word Halos, meaning Salt. In this therapy, salt is fed through a halogenerator to heat, crush, and grind it into fine particles. Those particles are then dispersed using a dry spray aerosol to be inhaled by the nose and mouth - expelling pollutants and opening breathing passages - or absorbed topically to penetrate skin conditions. This therapy kills bacteria, reduces inflammation, and expands airways to benefit those struggling with: • Breathing issues from allergies, asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, sinus infections, cough, and sinusitis. • Skin conditions including dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, and eczema. • And chronic ailments like ear infections, cystic fibrosis, rhinitis, and ENT issues.

Dental Implants – Your Healthy Option

M

illions of Americans suffer from tooth loss, primarily the result of injury, periodontal disease, or decay. In the past, treatment options included bridges and dentures, but unfortunately, neither option addresses the issue of bone loss of the jawbone that often results from the loss of natural teeth.

The above image shows the deterioration of the jawbone over time in the absence of your natural teeth

One of the major advantages of dental implants is that the implant root, which is placed into the bone socket of the missing tooth, actually helps to support and maintain a

healthy level of jawbone mass, much the same as your natural teeth. Preventing jawbone loss helps to maintain both your health and a more youthful appearance, preventing the “collapsed” jaw look of those who have experienced significant bone loss of the jaw. The presence of natural tooth roots or implant roots continues to preserve the jawbone through the pressure and stimulus resulting from normal chewing action. This healthy pressure and stimulus is reduced by 90% or more with conventional dentures. So the positive and healthy implications of dental implants go far beyond just your appearance. With good oral hygiene and regular dental care, your implants can function just like your natural teeth while lasting a lifetime. And with the added advantage of the implants’ roots, you can avoid that sunken, premature appearance

that happens when jawbone loss occurs. At Heritage Family Dentistry in nearby and convenient Farragut, Dr. Jonathan Bradshaw and his team of experienced, caring, and compassionate dental professionals can assist you in making the right choice of dentures or implants, as well as provide family friendly dental care. Heritage Family Dentistry can also assist you with financing to help assure that you receive the dental care you need. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast A

thens Community Theatre (ACT) announces the Fall 2021 production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast with a run of eight performances from now through October 10, 2021. Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:00 pm, while Sunday matinees take place at 2:00 pm. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. Tickets are on sale now. Adult tickets are $20 and student tickets are $15 and are available over the phone with card payment, in person at The Arts Center or online at athensartscouncil.org. As AACA returns to presenting live events after a period of suspended programs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our top priority is the safety and security of our audiences, performing artists, crew, and staff. We ask everyone to make choices that contribute to public safety so we can remain open and present live programs and events to support our mission. To provide as safe an environment as feasible, effective immediately and until otherwise amended, all events whether public or private will be subject to COVID-19 protocols approved by the AACA board of directors. These protocols require all audience members, performers, and crew to wear masks at The Arts Center and other safety procedures, including designating certain performances that will require proof of vaccination to attend. AACA advises the public to read its full COVID-19 protocol before purchasing tickets to a performance. The important information is available at http://www.athensartscouncil.org/covid-protocols/. The Arts Center is located at 320 North White St. in downtown Athens. Staff is available for questions during business hours, which are Monday through Friday 10am to 5pm. best coverage. One client saved her mom over $700/month on Alzheimer’s medications simply by changing plans. 2. Take a fresh look at Medicare Advantage: Advantage plans come with a lot of…advantages! They have very low or $0 premiums, and most cover dental, vision and hearing, which most Medicare Supplement plans do not. They also include prescription coverage. In an Advantage plan, rather than high monthly premiums, you’re willing to pay a co-pay for doctor and hospital visits. But the co-pays are capped with annual out-ofpocket maximums to protect you from large expenses. And if you don’t like Advantage, you can switch back to traditional Medicare within the first 12 months. 3. Price shop your Medicare Supplement Plan: While it is true you can do this step year-round, Open Enrollment is still a great time to take a fresh look. And remember that by law, every insurance company has to offer the same benefits for a specific plan – so a Plan G benefit is the same wherever you go; you’re simply price shopping for the lowest premium with the company that has the strongest renewal rates. If this all sounds great, but a little overwhelming, Rick Austin, in our office can help. He is an independent Medicare insurance specialist and has a premium quoting tool that looks across all companies to find the right answer for you. His expertise comes at no cost or obligation – the various insurance companies pay him for his help when you place business through him. So you can take the monthly savings he may find you and use it for something fun instead! Call him directly at 865.599.1323. Plant a Seed of Kindness ….

10A • East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, October 2021

M

By Donna Navratil any of you are familiar with the parable Jesus told to those gathered around him of the mustard seed. In Matthew 13:31 he tells us that “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree …” It is hard to believe that we are more than a year into this Covid-19 pandemic. Folks are losing patience with restrictions and closures. Everyone longs for life as we once knew it. We are anxious for a business as usual world. And with no end in sight at this point, nerves are on edge and people are short tempered and angry. If ever we needed a large dose of kindness in our world it is certainly now. You know how good it feels when someone pays you a compliment. How special you feel when someone gives you an unsolicited gift. How nice it is to hear laughter all around us. What a warmth it brings to deliver a meal to someone who is ill. What a feeling of satisfaction to take in a rescue pet. The list of kind deeds, words and services are almost endless. Facemasks may be hiding our smiles but that doesn’t mean that kindness can’t prevail in other ways. In the same way the tiny little mustard seed grows into a sturdy tree, small acts of kindness can also grow into something big! Let’s all start planting those seeds of kindness in our neighborhoods. Whether it is a random act of kindness to a stranger or a special kindness to a friend, neighbor or family member, let’s all start being mindful of our words and actions. Hopefully, we will watch these small “seeds of kindness” grow from neighborhoods to towns and cities then country to country until a worldwide phenomenon has been cultivated! Wouldn’t that just be the best news ever? Shepherd of the Lake 865-816-4756 www.shepherdofthelaketn.org

Good Shepherd Center Expands Its Food Distribution Service in Monroe County

205 Chota Road • Loudon TN 37774 A Loving, Welcoming Family of Believers Charlie Barnard, Pastor

O

n Friday, September 24th, the Good Shepherd Center offered free USDA food to families in Monroe County. This will be the case “the fourth Friday of each month” for the balance of the year. This event will be held at the Good Shepherd Center location on Hwy 411 S in Madisonville. The food distribution will run from 10am to 12 noon each day or until the available food runs out. The Good Shepherd expects to continue this service “the fourth Friday of each month” for the balance of the year. Anyone in Monroe County that receives any “Government Assisted Programs or is on Medicare” is eligible for the food service. Proof of assistance or Medicare will be required. Tina Smith, Executive Director of the Good Shepherd stated, “We have made a strategic decision. In the past we offered the USDA food only to our existing qualified clients, but because of need, we are expanding our hours and days of operation on this Friday to serve anyone who qualifies for this Federal food program. Our objective is to serve all in need.” Demand at the Center has increased with many new families needing assistance due to the Covid-19 crisis. Currently, the Center serves an average of 1,000 people per month and distributes approximately 30,000 pounds of food per month. “Our focus shifts between winter and summer needs, but the need for food distribution never changes,” said Margaret Cummings, president of the Board of Directors for the Center. People can make a one-time donation or a pledge over time: monthly, quarterly, or semi-annually. Any level of donation would be appreciated. Contributions are tax deductible. The Center is a 501 (c) 3 organization. The current campaign will continue through October; however, funds are accepted year long. Donations can be mailed to: The Good Shepherd Center, PO Box 353, 5150 Hwy 411 S, Madisonville, TN 37354. The Center’s phone number is 423-420-8888.

ast month, our column discussed the possible return of The COVID during the cold and flu season. As it turns out, The COVID showed up again right on cue. Cases seem to be on the rise, and we are currently seeing exposure in our area. To Show or Not to Show is in reference to your salon appointments and rather or not to show up for them. While this might seem a little odd coming from a salon owner,

there are times when you should NOT show up for your scheduled appointments. At our salon, we do not allow our staff to come to work if they are currently experiencing any COVID-like symptoms, as we are a close contact operation. This is done out of common courtesy in an effort to protect Brian K. Whitehead our teammates and our Managing Partner guests from any possible The Village Salon exposure that may be COVID. Offering The Latest Colore Styling Techniques During these times of The COVID, we ask our guests to extend the same courtesy to their provider, as well as any other guests they may encounter during their salon visit. While a stuffy nose and a sore throat are not always going to indicate you having The COVID, during these times, it is best to error on the side of caution. Rest assured that your salon provider would rather have a cancelation on their books, than to have you come in when you may be in early stages of infection. Should you find yourself experiencing any COVID222 Village Square • Tellico Village like symptoms, or if you have had direct contact with anyone who has or is suspected to have The COVID, Salon Hours: please postpone your salon visit. This may actually be Tues. - Fri. 8am - 6pm • Saturday 8am - 5pm the only circumstance where your provider will not be Early & Late Hours by Appointment disappointed in your last minute cancelation. The sweaters of this season may have varied shapes, but they all have one thing in common... they all offer warmth and snuggly sensuality! The bright and bold colors we are seeing on sweaters this year are a welcome change from past seasons... just because the weather is cooling down doesn’t mean your wardrobe color palette has to! Pink, green, orange and blue hues are strong... and pair back perfectly with fall staple colors like brown, grey and black. Push that chunky cardigan to the back of your closet (for now!) and move the newest silhouette, the lightweight transitional sweater, to the front! Discover a Revolutionary, Non-Surgical Body Sculpting and Contouring Treatment

A

s is so often the case with today’s advances in medical technology, new technologies emerge that allow physicians to offer new treatments to their patients that were unavailable just a few short years ago. One such technology available today is truSculpting 3D, an innovative, non-surgical treatment that helps to contour your body regardless of your shape or fitness level. Available exclusively at Farragut Family Practice, Dr. Kevin Buchanan, MD and his team of caring and compassionate healthcare providers, offer patients a truSculpting 3D experience that can produce impressive results in as few as four 45-minute treatments and with no downtime, allowing patients to significantly eliminate fat in stubborn areas around their abdomen and flanks, where no amount of exercise and dieting succeeds. Perhaps the most remarkable outcome from the truSculpting 3D experience extends far beyond just your enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence. It also encourages many patients to focus on their overall well-being, including proper nutrition and exercise, which can lead to a more fulfilling life and greater longevity. Clinically proven to be safe and effective, truSculpting 3D permanently eliminates body fat in stubborn areas by up to 24% while also tightening the skin, producing quick results in most patients – usually within 12 weeks. “After thoroughly evaluating a variety of non-surgical body sculpting and contouring systems,” said Dr. Buchanan, “we chose truSculpting 3D for a variety of reasons but, in particular, because of its

ability to tighten and improve skin tone, as well as to eliminate stubborn fat cells, and truSculpting 3D is usually far less expensive for our patients. In addition, as with any treatment, patients often have some level of apprehension. Fortunately, our patients experience the peace of mind that comes from knowing that we have a medical provider on site.” “Patients share their excitement in fitting into clothing that they haven’t worn in years, especially their skinny jeans. We have had several women tell us that they now wear sleeveless shirts after receiving treatments on their arms, which both eliminated stubborn fat and tightened their skin. Many truSculpting 3D patients also have reported that in addition to the elimination of stubborn fat cells, they have observed a reduction in the appearance of cellulite.” Why not rediscover that all new you that you’ve been dreaming of? To learn how you too can benefit from the truSculpting 3D experience, you are encouraged to call Farragut Family Practice today at 865-675-1593, ext. 224 and ask for Ashley to set up your free consultation appointment. Farragut Family Practice is in full compliance with all applicable Covid safety protocols. As an added precaution, all truSculpt patients upon arrival are escorted directly to separate treatment rooms. Home Organization Includes the Pantry

F

all has arrived and we’ll be celebrating the holidays in a few weeks. If you have plans to entertain this holiday, you may need to whip your pantry into shape. “While newer houses often have a larger pantry space, the size of your pantry doesn’t matter as much as organization,” said Kathryn Norton, co-owner of Tailored Living of Knoxville. “A well-designed small pantry often provides better, more convenient and functional storage than a poorly designed larger pantry.” No matter its size, today’s pantry should be: • Convenient – Located at or near the area where food is prepared • Visible – Everything in the pantry can be seen at a glance. • Accessible – Every item can be easily reached and removed without having to move anything else out of the way. Heaviest items, like a mixer, close to the floor and least-used items at the highest point. When designing the layout of your pantry, Tailored Living believes what works best for the homeowner is a design that fits their lifestyle. Our designers will discuss with you how you want to utilize your pantry. Some of the questions our designer may ask are: • What will be in the pantry besides food? Do you want to store dishes, serveware, table linens, grilling items, or cleaning supplies in the space? • Do you entertain a lot and need to store party supplies? • Do you have a specific design style in mind? • If you have the space, do you want a counter top – often called a landing area -- to put bags of groceries on or, if there’s an outlet in the pantry, everyday items like a coffee maker? Other pantry elements to consider are drawers or pullout baskets. Incorporating baskets makes it easy for kids to see and get the food they like to eat or to store large-bulk items like onions or potatoes. Drawers are perfect for linens, grilling utensils, napkins, or any smaller items. Slideout spice and wine racks add convenience. How much you’re able to customize depends on the size of your pantry. Whether your pantry provides a walk-in space or is a reach-in, Tailored Living of Knoxville listens to your individual or family needs to design a space that works well for your lifestyle. Their job is to design and install a well-organized pantry that brings order to chaos.

Who’s Navigating Your Financial Future?

Volume 21, No. 10

f you’ve never embarked on an ocean cruise before, you’re in for a truly exhilarating experience. Sparkling ocean waters, playful dolphins gliding effortlessly alongside your vessel, sun drenched exotic destinations and romantic dinners are just a few of the pleasures that await you as you immerse yourself into the world of cruising. Ocean cruising and travel should be on everyone’s ‘bucket-list’ of things to do – your reward for a life of careful planning and the diligent pursuit of your chosen career. If ocean cruising and other forms of family enjoyment appear to be unattainable, perhaps all that is required is some professional guidance to help you to successfully navigate life’s uncertainties that may be preventing you from enjoying those rewards that you’ve worked so hard to achieve. Cruising and successful financial planning actually have far more in common than you might have imagined. Did you know for instance, that your cruise ship never enters or exits of call without ofPROOF an expePROOF PROOF a portPROOF PROOF the guidance PROOF

rienced maritime pilot? That’s correct! A skilled pilot joins your ship dockside, prior to departure, or alongside your vessel before it enters its destination. These maritime professionals are skilled mariners possessing immense knowledge of waterways including depths, currents and hazards, as well as displaying expertise in handling ships of all types and sizes. And just as important, each of these pilots are licensed and authorized by recognized pilotage authorities. Successful financial planning isn’t achieved by good intentions any more than a cruise ship is allowed to enter or exit a port using the ship’s cruise control. Successful financial planning is the result of careful planning and the implementation of a well thought out strategy designed to take full advantage of those objectives that you have worked so hard to achieve. A successful financial plan also takes into account those occasional and unexpected gales, tides and rough seas. If you possess the requisite skills and time required to create and execute your own financial plan, you are likely among the lucky few. If on the other hand you lack those skills or the time, you might choose to enlist the expertise of your own ‘Financial Pilot’ or more correctly your own

‘Financial Advisor’. Like a skilled mariner, your Financial Advisor is both trained and licensed to assist you in successfully navigating today’s financial marketplace as well as tomorrow’s uncertainties. If you feel you may need the assistance of a Financial Advisor to help you to successfully navigate toward a more rewarding and fulfilling future, I would like to personally invite you to call me today and to set up your private, no cost or obligation consultation. By asking the right questions, by listening carefully and by implementing a well thought out financial strategy for your future, you too could be well on your way to a lifetime of ocean cruises. Which Microwave is Best for You

2B • East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, October, 2021

F

Submitted by Pattersons Home Appliance Center

rom popcorn to full-fledged meals, the humble microwave has made a mark on us as a society. Now, with all the different options available for this most-common of home appliances, you can take the microwave off the counter while still keeping it in the kitchen. There are also many features you’ll see in modern-day microwaves that you won’t find in your traditional counter top microwave. Here’s what to look for when you’re considering a new microwave. Size and Power Matter The two specifications that matter most in your microwave purchase are going to be the capacity and wattage. The higher the wattage, the faster and more evenly your food will cook. Most microwaves are 1000 to 1200 watts, with some hitting 1600 watts or going a little over that. As for cubic feet, most microwaves are between 1 and 2 cubic feet. To best choose your microwave’s size, bring the largest dish that you know you’ll ever put inside

your microwave with you when you go shopping for one. Type of Microwave

The most common type of microwave is the counter top microwave. It’s often sold with a trim kit so it can be made to appear built-in. The kitchen may have a cut-out in the wall or cabinets where you can place your microwave with its trim kit. You may run into a common issue when attempting to pass a countertop microwave as a builtin; microwave sizes have changed over the years, therefore your new one may not fit correctly. Otherwise, these microwaves should fit just fine on a normal countertop. If you’re more interested in an actual built-in microwave, test the door before you decide on a microwave. Some countertop microwaves can be very convincing, but if the door opens out to the side instead of down, that means the microwave is just a regular microwave. Over the range (or OTR) microwaves are another option. These microwaves are installed above your cooktop and act as a cooktop light source and vent hood at the same time. Some OTRs are designed to have a shorter height, giving you more space to cook.

Drawer microwaves are exactly what they sound like - microwaves that open like a drawer does. This is a great option if you want to keep your microwave out of sight while also adding a level of sophistication to your kitchen. Built-In Microwaves This type of microwave is our personal favorite, and for good reason. Built-in microwaves are literally built into the cabinetry or wall of your kitchen, freeing up counter space while also placing the microwave in a convenient location. Most built-in microwaves also have convection, making it similar to a smaller, faster oven. They can also get hotter faster, so if you enjoy baking, a built-in microwave can make life a little easier. Though built-in microwaves can be more expensive, they’re a great option if you would love a second oven but don’t have the space for that plus a regular microwave. Microwave Features

Depending on the type of microwave you get, you’ll be looking at a whole host of features that you didn’t see with the microwave that heated up your TV

dinners growing up. Some of the most interesting features are convection cooking and steam cooking cycles, giving you more options for making dinner than you’ve ever had before. Other microwaves come with multistep cooking. This feature allows you to put in a sequence of commands, and the microwave will complete them in the order you entered them. Another neat feature is scan-to-cook technology, which lets you scan the barcode of the meal you’re about to put in the microwave, after which the cooking instructions will automatically input themselves into the appliance. And, if you’re tired of burning popcorn or having to stand right next to the microwave to turn it off in time, you’re in luck. Many modern microwaves come with a popcorn sensor, which listens to see how many seconds there are between popping kernels so they can turn themselves off before your popcorn gets seared. THE LIBRARY CORNER

A

s the year is rushing past us and holidays are fast approaching, the Friends of the Public Library at Tellico Village continue to work hard to give you fun activities. Our Librarian is working just as hard to have interesting classes/lectures for you to partake in. The Library is a place to go to learn, read, enjoy, and see friends and neighbors – a spa day for the mind - in this time of turmoil. The annual meeting of the Friends of the Library will be held on Monday, October 25th at 1:30 pm at the Tellico Village Yacht Club. Our guest speaker is Charlie Daniel, retired editorial cartoonist for the Knoxville News Sentinel. After a short meeting, Daniel will discuss his 50 year career as a cartoonist. He will be drawing a cartoon as he speaks and this signed cartoon will be placed up for auction. Bidding will continue until November 15, when the winner will be announced. If you miss the meeting, the cartoon will be on display at the Library.

On October 16th, all of the surrounding communities are invited to our “Discover a Memoir” Book Sale from 9am to noon in the Library Courtyard, 300 Irene Lane, Loudon. In addition to some wonderful Memoirs, there will also be great selections of Biographies, Animals, Arts & Crafts, Music & Photography, Sports and Humor. Fiction books will be on a BOGO special, to Buy One and Get One for equal or lesser price FREE! Most books will be priced $1-$4 cash or check. The last booksale of the year will be on December 4th and is themed “Holiday Book” – more on this to follow in next month’s article. October 17-23 is National Friends of the Library week. Please drop by during the week and take a tour of the Library, get your free Library card (if you don’t already have one) and sign up for a Friends membership. You can also look into opportunities for volunteering. We have started the Friends membership drive for 2022. Unlike other county libraries, the Public Library at Tellico Village relies on Friends memberships, grants, gifts, donations, and fundraisers to pay the bills. The Friends built the library; they own it; they pay the bills. Membership is on a calendar year – January through December, however you can join/renew your membership at any time. By joining now, you receive an extra 3 months of membership and help support the Library immediately. Don’t forget we have classes and lectures during the

Daniel is not to be confused with Charlie Daniels, the famous “good ole boy” country singer. Where Charlie Daniels used his songs and voice to entertain, Charlie Daniel used pen and paper to combine sharp satire with sympathy for the human condition. “Daniel’s cartoons can make you laugh and even sometimes cringe,” says the University of Tennessee library’s special collection department website. “But more than anything else, they make you think. Daniel has captured difficult and sometimes complex issues through the power of symbolism, satire, irony and humor.” His collection at UT has more than 1500 works. This collection covers Knoxville life as well as both national and international politics. Please come to the annual meeting and hear this amazing man and watch him draw that special cartoon especially for us.

Go to our website www.tvlibrary.org to get more information about classes and events. A follow up on two events held in September: Even though the weather was not perfect and the rain gave the event committee a challenge, the 4B’s was fun and successful; over 320 people attended and expressed their excitement that the Friends of the Library were able to put this on again for the community. The food, the beer, the band and, of course, the three free books all made for a great afternoon, although seating was limited and we were crowded in the courtyard and the conference room. What better way to meet new folks and see your friends! Many ticket holders decided to do a drive through and got their bbq fixings and free books and went home. If you weren’t able to make it to the 4B’s this year, this is an annual fundraiser, so look for it again next September. The Tea Committee, Sandi Jorgensen, Pam Severs, Carolyn Page, Emily Hosty, Joan Yankey, Sue Cardearella, Jessica Schlott, Susan Kirk and Carol Kover, all Friends of the Library and volunteers, put on a 2nd afternoon tea event. On September 28, an afternoon tea, From Jane Austen to Downton Abbey, had 30 ladies having lots of fun visiting, playing a trivia game that ranged from the Regency Period to WWII. Hostesses donned black and white “uniforms” and a tuxedoed butler welcomed guests to the “mansion.” In May 2021, this committee put on its first tea: a Southern Hospitali-Tea. That tea celebrated the South, its culture, history and of course, authors. The emcee was none other than “Minnie Pearl” and the servers were dressed as famous Southern women. The next event from these very talented ladies will be An Evening of Classic Romance on February 12, from 7-9 pm in the Library. This evening event will include Valentine desserts and wine; trivia game/scavenger hunt and live music. Tickets will go on sale in mid to late January. Take a ride in the country and enjoy the sights and sounds of October. See you next month.

Part Three

n the September 2021 issue of East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, we learned how Tellico Hearing Solutions owner, Robert Ferraro’s, own hearing loss inspired him to pursue a career as a certified and licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist. “With the encouragement of my wife, Connie, I sought the assistance of a Hearing Instrument Specialist who was able to diagnose my hearing loss and prescribe a solution,” said Robert. “My new and advanced hearing aids helped to overcome my hearing loss and helped me to once again enjoy a normal, productive and healthy lifestyle. The solution to my hearing loss could not have been easier. Today my goal is to share my personal experience with as many others who may also be suffering from hearing loss.” Hearing loss is a growing problem in the United States amongst the Baby Boomers. And because hearing loss is usually experienced gradually, it can often go undetected for long periods of time. We may feel that others are speaking too quickly or perhaps are mumbling. We compensate by turning up the volume on the television or radio to a level that is oftentimes uncomfortable for others. Left untreated, those experiencing hearing loss may begin to feel a sense of isolation, electing to reduce their social interactions with others. And those with more severe hearing loss can actually experience speech impairment or loss of balance. In this issue of East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, we are pleased to bring you Part Three of our recent interview with Tellico Hearing Solutions owner, Robert Ferraro. Robert is uniquely qualified to help you or a loved one to overcome your hearing loss, because, remember he is not only the founder of Tellico Hearing Solutions, but he has also experienced hearing loss firsthand. ETMV: Robert, remind our readers of your own hearing loss. Robert: My hearing loss started a few years ago. I was straining to hear everything that others were saying. I began to tune-out in social settings and missed much of the conversations. It was just too tiring to try to keep up. I had to constantly ask people to speak louder or to repeat themselves. Connie was also telling me that the TV and radio were too loud. It was then that I decided to have my hearing checked. ETMV: How do today’s state-of-theart hearing aids compare to those worn by our parents and grandparents? Robert: Simply put, there is no comparison. Older style hearing aids were often just amplifiers. The term “hearing aid” does not accurately describe today’s high-tech instruments that employ adaptive technology enabling them to adapt to changing environments much like your own natural hearing. And electronic miniaturization has resulted in high-tech hear-

ing instruments becoming nearly invisible. Today’s hearing instruments are extremely sophisticated and each person’s needs are unique. At Tellico Hearing Solutions we have the required technical expertise to help you to overcome your hearing loss, but more importantly, because of my own personal hearing loss, I can relate to you on a level that others simply can’t. ETMV: Describe the hearing experience offered with your advanced hearing instruments. Robert: First of all, we offer a large selection of hearing instruments from many of the top manufacturers in the world. Each of us processes sound in a very unique way. Based on our in-depth analysis of your hearing, we select that hearing instrument that best meets your needs in the varied social settings that you are likely to experience. ETMV: How do you stay connected with your patients should they require your assistance? Robert: While some patients may wish to visit with us personally, the majority of our patients prefer to take advantage of the latest technologies that allow them to consult with us virtually, while others prefer to use available Apps to make adjustments to their hearing instruments from home or on the go. ETMV: What other features are offered with today’s hearing instruments? Robert: This is where it gets exciting. As evolving technology will continue to offer new and improved features in the future, today’s hearing instrument users can take phone calls, listen to music, mask annoying tinnitus, and more. They not only help to overcome your hearing loss, but they are almost like your own personal surround sound system. ETMV: What’s the next step for someone who thinks they might be experiencing hearing loss? Robert: Avoid inaction. Forget about what you thought you know about hearing aids. And forget about the stigma of wearing a hearing instrument. If people of all ages can walk around with ears bud protruding from their ears, why should you be concerned about an almost undetectable hearing device that helps you to once again enjoy life to it’s fullest. The sooner you act, the better the outcome. Untreated, hearing loss can negatively impact you in so many more ways than you might imagine. And remember, I’m not only a licensed and certified Hearing Instrument Specialist, but I also overcame my hearing loss. Won’t you let me help you to rediscover that full and productive lifestyle that awaits you? Why not call me today! Why Not Let Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning Help You to Prepare for This Year’s Holiday Season

M

By Kerry McDuffie – Owner – Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning

any of us have already begun planning for holiday events and family gatherings. As a parent and grandfather, I know just how important this time of the year is but how stressful holiday preparation can be as well. At Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning, we’ve been helping busy families prepare for the holidays for more than 35 years. So why is it important to clean your home’s carpets and Oriental and area rugs before your guests arrive? Well, for starters, to enhance the appearance of every room in your home. Also, if children and grandchildren play on your rugs and carpeting, you’ll want these surfaces to be as clean and healthy as they can be. There’s also a practical side. Well-maintained carpets and rugs will not only look better longer, but they’ll also last longer. You see, abrasives, dirt, and other contaminants are tracked into our homes and onto our carpeting and rugs from the bottoms of our shoes and our pet’s feet. Not only do these elements contaminate our carpets and rugs, making them look dull and dingy, but many of these contaminants are abrasive in nature and can permanently damage carpeting and rug fibers. Also, some of these tracked-in elements are snow and ice removal chemicals that can chemically bond to your home’s carpet and Oriental rug fibers, shortening their life expectancy. Our truck-mounted cleaning system uses today’s state-of-the-art technology to remove dirt and grime that other systems simply leave behind. Also, our Oriental and area rug washing boutique uses an 11-step proprietary cleaning process that can safely clean most rugs that might just become a family heirloom some day. Also, for you dog lovers, if Fido has had an accident on one of your valued Oriental or area rugs, call us immediately. Pet urine alters a rug’s pH and can negatively impact your rug’s color stability, causing color bleeding. So act quickly! Time is your biggest enemy. If you can use a little help preparing for the holidays this year – and who couldn’t – remember the company who has earned a superior reputation since 1985 for unmatched superior cleaning: Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning. We are so thankful for all our friends like you and your family who have entrusted us to take care of your cleaning needs for more than three decades. May your holiday season be a blessed time with family and friends. Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning 865-691-5686 www.superiorofknoxville.com info@superiorofknoxville.com

It’s Almost Time to Winterize the Family Boat

T

By Tom Irmen

he 2021 boating season is nearly at an end and it’s time to start thinking about winterizing our boats in preparation for everything that ‘Old Man’ winter can throw at us. That means hours of work cleaning, winterizing your engine and water system, detailing and hauling out that spider infested winter boat cover. But there’s an alternative to this same old annual routine thanks to Touchless Boat Cover Systems from Lifetime Docks, LLC. Like other area boaters, we frequently see boats in docks, both private and some community docks that are protected by the Touchless Boat Cover System. The concept is a simple one...create a garage for your boat that protects your watercraft like your home’s garage protects your vehicles. We installed a new Touchless Boat Cover System in 2020 and our 2021 boating season could not have been more enjoyable. Well the proof as they say was in the pudding. When we opened up our boat for the beginning of the 2021 boating season, we were pleasantly surprised. And although we had considered using our old winter boat cover as added protection, we avoided the temptation. We simply pressed our Touckless key fob and our boat, which was detailed last summer, appeared, looking showroom new. No bird droppings and no spiders. We lowered our boat lift, turned on the battery, started the blower and after the required interval, started our engine. We were off for an enjoyable day on the lake. Truly the best investment we have made in years and we plan on taking great care of our new Touchless Boat Cover System that takes such great care of our family boat. Thanks to our good friends at Lifetime Docks, LLC we plan on taking advantage of their Basic Maintenance Package which includes the lubrication of the system’s 20 to 25 pulleys, checking and adjusting all components, and a thorough test/inspection of the entire cover. Lifetime also offers a variety of other helpful Maintenance Packages that they are anxious to share with you. Prepare for a season of fun in the sun on the lake in 2022 without the long hours of detailing your boat by calling Patrick Boring at Lifetime Docks, LLC. Avoid the rush by calling Patrick today. October In the Garden

I

by

Lisa Grugin

t’s finally starting to feel like fall, which means we can talk about fall gardening! Here in the South, fall is a great time to do some planting. The temperatures are cooling but the soil is still warm, and the plants are going into dormancy. This means that they can put all their effort into their roots. In fact, 85% of root growth for trees and shrubs occurs in the fall and winter! This also means that some of those plants you put in this spring (that may have struggled) will get a chance to catch up. Mother Nature also tends to give us plenty of rain the next few months, so that takes a little of the work out for you. Please note that I said “tends.” Our weather has been as erratic as a wooden rollercoaster so don’t put that hose away. October can be dry. Our hose at home doesn’t go away until we start having hard freezes in the forecast, which is usually not until November. By the way, the average first frost is October 23rd, and the average first freeze is November 8th. Let’s go on to things that you need to do in your yard this month: ✻ Do your walk-around and see what is going on. Remember to look up, down, and all around. Check all those nooks and

crannies that you don’t typically notice; in the back corners and on the sides where you seldom go. ✻ Continue adding to your list of things that you want to do in your yard. Keep in mind that a garden is a living thing, and therefore is ever-changing. Plants grow, multiply, and die. Anticipate and adapt to change, because doing battle with Mother Nature is a fight you will always lose. ✻ Is your yard boring in the fall and winter? Sometimes we put so much effort into spring and summer color that we forget

9885 Highway 11E, Lenoir City, TN 37772 www.meadowviewgreenhouse.com • 865-986-7229 about the rest of the year. It is not unusual to see yards that are full of blooms until late fall, when they become barren. Now is the time to select some plants that will give you color all year long. Shrubs, such as Camellias, give blooms in fall and winter. Evergreens with bright foliage shine like a beacon during the grey months. Other shrubs can provide color with great fall foliage or berries. We have several to select from, so come on in! ✻ Don’t forget about trees - this is the best time of the year for planting them. They provide tremendous value to your home because they give shade and beauty. Whether it is a large Maple or Oak that will cool your home in the summer or a small tree that provides blooms, no home is complete without at least one tree in the yard. ✻ Perennials can also bring color into the later months. Many have evergreen foliage and also bloom. Check out Hellebores, Heuchera and Autumn Ferns for a shady garden. In the sun, Dianthus and some of the Sedums will stick around all year. For blooms, check out the coneflowers, anemones, Chelone and Rudbeckia. These and many other perennials are blooming their little hearts out right now in appreciation for the cooler temperatures that we are having. ✻ Asters and mums are the showstoppers of the fall garden, so try to get them in the ground as soon as possible if you want them to come back next year. They need time to get

their roots down before we have a freeze. ✻ If your planters are frost tolerant, you can still plant them up. Check out Pinterest, gardening blogs, magazines, etc. to find some beautiful ideas for unusual arrangements. If you have been using the same soil for more than 3 years, it is time to dump it out and start fresh. It becomes depleted over time. ✻ Pansies are your winter garden bombshells. Their cheerful little faces will bloom from now until next May. They are available in an assortment of beautiful colors, so get them in the ground. ✻ Don’t forget the birds. Migration patterns will take many species through our yards, and a nice feeder and birdbath make for a great bed and breakfast. Please keep them scrupulously clean, as a dirty feeder is a dangerous feeder, and nobody wants to bathe in dirty water! We will continue to get beautiful plants for your yard and gifts for your home, so stop by and get something pretty. We are happy to answer any questions you might have or help you create your perfect landscape. Come in for a visit! s entrepreneurs, small business owners are faced with multiple decisions on an almost daily basis. It’s part of the landscape that we must navigate on our journeys to success for us as owners, our associates, our suppliers, and most importantly, our customers. I believe one of the best decisions I have made as owner and founder of Express Blinds was my decision to join the Home Builders Association of Greater Knoxville. Since we first launched Express Blinds in 2013, we have been selected by Association builders to showcase our products in their Parade of Homes entries each and every year. And 2021 marks our 9th consecutive year of participation in the Parade. The Home Builders Association of Greater Knoxville’s Parade of Homes represents the best of the best, showcasing East Tennessee’s premiere builders, the newest in home-related products, technologies, and designs. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Knoxville Parade of Homes, which is one of the longest-running Parade of Homes in the nation. This year’s Parade will be a three-weekend long event operating from October 1 -17th and will showcase nearly 30 homes across 5 counties. Attendees will discover homes ranging in price from $266,000 to over $1.8 million. There is no charge for admittance. What I particularly enjoy about the Parade of Homes is the opportunity for all of us who participate to showcase our individual products and services to all those who attend. It’s a once a year event that allows existing and would-be homeowners alike the opportunity to experience firsthand the latest designs and newest technologies in the wide variety of home-related products and services. It’s like the Mall of America for home construction and renovation. Readers of East Tennessee’s Mountain Views have the unique opportunity to visit several of these showcase homes in their own or nearby communities including: • “Wine Down Way” in Wind River by Arcadia Custom Homes • “Calderwood” in Tellico Village by Cook Brothers Homes

• “Portico” in the Grove at Cedar Hills by Cook Brothers Homes • “Brookside” in Stone Harbor by White Mountain Homes A complete list of showcase homes is available on the Home Builders Association of Greater Knoxville’s mobile website at TheParadeOfHomesKnoxville.com and includes the GPS directions to each home. Visiting these custom homes will provide you with a front-row seat to see all the latest designs in window fashions that offer you total control of both lighting and privacy, as well as energy saving options. From roller to woven to cellular shades and more, the designs, texture, rich hues and colors are only limited by your imagination. And then there’s the automation. If you are in the market for new window fashions, then you don’t want to miss our beautiful, designer-inspired window vignettes in one of these fine homes, at our designer showroom or online. Delivering Pure Healthy Water For Two Generations

H

By david Brewster, Owner of Aqua Clear Water Systems, LLC

usband and wife team and Aqua Clear Water Systems owners, David and Krista Brewster, launched Aqua Clear back in 2005 with the goal of providing other East Tennessee families and businesses with all of the healthy benefits available from using and consuming only the highest quality water available. “Back then, we had 3 youngsters, and today, 16 years later, all 3, Robert 20, Lydia 23 and Jonathan (JB) 25 work alongside David and myself,” said Krista. “Lydia serves as our Purchasing Coordinator, and JB and Robert serve as our Project Supervisors.” Like their parents, they collectively share David and Krista’s commitment to provide all of their clients with both the best quality water available and a level of customer service designed to

exceed your expectations. Lydia’s, Robert’s and JB’s first Aqua Clear memories as youngsters begin with each of them fondly remembering helping out around the office and events! Lydia said, “Growing up, I remember always carrying around 5 gallon coolers to events we sponsored like football games, marathons, and weddings!” And, Robert echoed that comically saying, “I remember riding in our first van with my dad setting up at home shows and handing out water samples. I always would sneak away to go get some cinnamon sugar nuts and see all the awesome things around the shows.” While JB also remembered events, his first memory was focused on something else. He remembered “sweeping the floors and put-

ting up trash in the first office and helping organize equipment in the warehouse.” “It was encouraging for us to see that our kids loved working hard and that they shared our passion for providing other families with a source for safe and healthy water, and that certainly hasn’t changed,” added David. Today, when asked what they enjoyed the most about working for and with family, they had some sweet answers. JB said his favorite part is “talking and learning with [his] dad about the various aspects of the business and how it makes a difference in clients’ lives as well as working on the same team with Lydia and Robert.” Lydia spoke about how she loves being able to talk about life and work around the dinner table and how she has the opportunity every day to brainstorm with her

family. And, Robert talked about shared vision saying, “I’ve heard for 16 years about changing clients’ lives, and now, I personally get to build relationships with my clients and hear them for myself. It’s incredibly powerful getting to do that alongside my parents and siblings. We’re also very competitive. So, it’s a fun work environment where we’re always challenging each other with new and better ideas!” Looking forward to the future, each Brewster had something similar to say about where they see Aqua Clear 10 years from now. It was a shared common theme – educate each client on the potentially harmful toxins that are in their water, listen carefully to the needs of each client and then recommend the most affordable water treatment solution in order to provide the purest water possible. Lydia said it quite well that she “never wants to stop positively impacting people and their lifestyles.” “On behalf of the entire Aqua Clear family, we would like to thank all of our wonderful clients for their 16 years of encouragement and support for which our success would not have been possible,” said Krista. “Our future success and our ability to provide and meet the ever growing ultra-pure water needs of our clients is assured thanks to these 3 amazing young professionals and the entire Aqua Clear Water Systems team of professionals.” From our family to yours, discover all of the healthy benefits of the pure water delivered from the best water treatment system in the industry. And as an added incentive, mention this ad and article when you call to receive $200.00 off your water treatment system order. Conditions apply. You might even get to meet Lydia, Robert, or JB! Holiday Gift Giving Made Easy

T

By Peggy Cones, Owner of Cones Cupboard Antiques

he holiday season is fast approaching and so is your anticipation of entertaining family, friends and out of town guests, planning festive meals, and don’t forget – exchanging gifts. The truth be told, most of us would likely rank holiday shopping for those ‘just-so-perfect’ gifts as the most challenging of all of our holiday tasks. Selecting the perfect gift requires a great deal of forethought, imagination and some degree of luck. How old is the person? What are their interests and hobbies? And of course, how do I select a gift that will be treasured each and every time my gift if viewed or used. If holiday gift giving has you stumped this season, I would like to personally invite you to visit Cones Cupboard Antiques located in the West End Antique Mall in Knoxville, where you’ll discover a treasure trove of antiques and vintage furniture, glassware, sterling silver, collectibles and gifts all personally selected by me on my buying trips throughout the United States. Why Cones Cupboard Antiques you might ask? Well, unlike the traditional “big box” department stores which offer off-shore, mass-produced, generic gift choices, we feature many unique, one of a kind gift items that simply aren’t available anywhere else. Truly unique, these gifts will remind family members and friends alike just how much they mean to you and the careful thought that you put into selecting their gift. Do you have someone on your holiday shopping list that might enjoy a beautifully handcrafted, antique, English chest of drawers (circa 1880) that would be perfect addition to a bedroom, den, office or craft room? Or how about an antique Grandfather’s Clock to create that stunning focal point in almost any room in your home? And what’s even more exciting about selecting unique gifts such as these, is that these same gifts might also be destined to become heirlooms within you own family to be treasured by generations to come. So if gift giving has you stumped this holiday season, see what awaits you at Cones Cupboard Antiques, where we can help you to transform this year’s ordinary holiday experience into the extraordinary.
