The Holistic Approach to Living Your Best Life

ocal pharmacist and entrepreneur, Ellen Phillips, operates a unique, client-centered concept in pharmaceutical care: believeRX, located at 9627 Countryside Center Lane near the intersection of Middlebrook Pike and Bob Kirby Road in Knoxville. Ellen and her compassionate, caring team of highly-trained pharmaceutical associates have embarked on a mission to provide traditional pharmacy services combined with a holistic approach to health and well-being. believeRX recognizes that your local pharmacy can and should play an important role in your family’s total healthcare and wellness in partnership with your other healthcare providers. believeRX combines the personal and caring touch of the now almost non-existent neighborhood pharmacy with today’s rapidly evolving healthcare industry. With more than 20 years of first-hand experience as a pharmacist to draw upon, Ellen and her team have created a holistic and interactive approach to your pharmaceutical experience designed to help you “Live Your Best Life.” Ellen and her colleague, pharmacist Monty Roark, shared with Mountain

Views the positive health and well-being benefits that believeRX provides their clients along with several exciting services they offer. MV: Tell our readers about your professional background. Ellen: I have both retail and clinical hospital pharmacy experience and have been in management for most of my career. I have served as a pharmacy preceptor for several pharmacy schools and won the Pharmacists Excellence Award while working for a big chain pharmacy. For years, I have seen that there is more than one way to fight or prevent disease. We are lucky to have pharmaceuticals, but we are just as lucky to have alternative options as well. Monty: After graduating from UT College of Pharmacy, I began working in a standard retail pharmacy. I felt it was lacking the one-on-one involvement with patients that I knew was important in determining their overall health needs, so I came to work at believeRX with Ellen. I am passionate about caring for patients holistically - not just their traditional medication needs, but beyond that into daily diet and nutrition, vitamins and supplements, skin care and anti-aging therapies, as well as other complementary alternative medicines. MV: Describe the believeRX business philosophy, and tell our readers about your new in-store clinic. Ellen: believeRX is part traditional pharmacy that offers home delivery (even after hours for our established patients), part specialty pharmacy that offers counseling in the home by a licensed

pharmacist, and also specializes in the best holistic over-the-counter health products. In fact, we are very different than the “national chain” pharmacy you are used to. Our staff members receive additional training to become Certified Health Coaches, believing it’s time to focus on our patients as a whole, not only their prescribed medications. Monty: We have recently partnered with Primary Care of Tennessee and now offer a full-service medical clinic with Nurse Practitioners Diane Knight and Dana Webber. We offer weight loss tailored to the individual patient, Covid-19 testing, flu testing and treatment, immunizations, sick visits, and regular check-ups. Our current clinic hours are in the evenings from 5 to 7 pm and Saturdays 8 am to 12 noon. You can call 865-200-4101 to schedule an appointment. Ellen: Our store carries a variety of quality holistic products and supplements. We carry products that are backed up by the manufacturer and have been proven effective. MV: Considering our current health environment, do you have recommendations to improve the immune system and suggestions for countering the overall stress that comes with these trying times? Ellen: Elderberry has more antioxidants than most fruits and empowers the immune system by fighting free radicals that can cause damage to it. The elderberry we carry is locally made and one of our best sellers. Customers use it for cold and flu prevention and treatment and they swear by its effectiveness. Local honey is not pasteurized and

because it is not exposed to heat, it is loaded with natural vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Why buy store brand when you can get local honey as the healthier alternative? Monty: Terry Naturally is one of our most requested natural supplement lines. Along with supplements to treat virtually any ailment, there are specific ones that help with anxiety and pain and are also super immune boosters. We also have essential oils, CBD products, and some very useful new treatments. MV: What are some of your most unique services and products? Ellen: We offer infrared sauna sessions. Unlike traditional saunas, which heat the air and then the body, infrared heat saunas promote heat generation in the body with only a small amount of heat in the air. Infrared saunas result in a deeper sweat at a lower surrounding temperature, producing benefits such as detox, weight loss, and treatment of muscle pain. Monty: BEMER, which stands for BioElectro-Magnetic-Energy-Regulation, uses a pulsed electromagnetic field to improve the body’s microcirculation. Improvement in the circulation of the small vessels of our body may help improve blood flow, nutrient and oxygen supply, and waste removal. Sessions of just eight minutes twice a day have been known to increase blood flow by 30%. Healy Resonance is a wearable device that is used to balance the body’s energetic field and activate self-healing. The device can analyze human tissues and the human Continued on page 2A ...

information field for frequency resonance and can deliver optimal frequencies to improve function and health. Call the pharmacy for an appointment to be analyzed and scanned. Ellen: believeRX has a convenient “pay as you use” or an unlimited monthly subscription plan for these services. MV: Is there anything else you would like to tell Mountain Views readers about believeRX? Monty: We are excited to offer healthy smoothies and fresh juices without any added sugar. They are either naturally sweetened or sweetened with honey or other low glycemic index sweeteners - and they taste fantastic! We offer medical grade protein, Blender Bombs, YourSuper, CBD Oil, MCT oil, collagen, and many other options to help promote weight loss, maintain good health, and break sugar addiction! Ellen: believeRX strives to provide a custom-tailored experience for each customer/patient by treating them as a whole individual and not just their specific ailments or prescription medications. Our name says it all. “We Believe in You” and your goal for better health, well-being, and longevity. believeRX 9627 Countryside Center Lane Knoxville, TN 37931 865-214-6672 www.believeRXknoxville.com

10 years!

Why I'm Grateful for 2020 This time of year I always like to sit down and count my blessings, and this year is no exception. I can easily say that this has been a year of new experiences for all of us. I am grateful for all of the new opportunities that these experiences have created. Collectively we have all found ways to connect with each other, and truly value our time together, even more than before. We realize just how important our friends and family are, and how precious those moments together can be. We have rediscovered hobbies, be it cooking, art, gardening, writing, and more. As well as found new ways to keep entertained all while at home. As a business, we have found new ways to help our clients digitally, reassuring them through our customer service and our open communication. Likewise, I am grateful for all of the support our clients have given us this year. Home is where the heart is, and I think 2020 has helped all of us appreciate, just a little bit more, the comforts of home. - Sandy

fter visiting this area, we fell in love with the mountains, the lakes, the way of life and the people! We feel very blessed to live in this special place,” replied Melissa when asked what had inspired her and husband Eric to retire to East Tennessee in September 2019 after running a small business in the Houston area for 40 years. “After buying our home, we decided to update the kitchen. Our kitchen designer told us about Sandy and Rachael and recommended them highly.” Melissa was referring to Decorating Den Interiors owner and designer, Sandy Kozar, and designer and Kozar Design Team member, Rachael Sheridan. “We decided to use Sandy because she was highly recommended and after meeting her and Rachael and checking out their prior projects, we felt very comfortable with them and knew that they would do a great job. Another consideration was that they brought everything to us and made the entire process easy.” “They measured the rooms we wanted to furnish which included the foyer, the dining room, the open main living/kitchen/dining area, and the guest bedroom. They designed different furniture layouts to choose from (with a computer layout of the room). For the main open living area, they brought pictures of furniture to choose from, fabric samples, and area rug choices. They also helped us with window coverings, draperies and custom bedding for the master bedroom and guest bedroom. And they also incorporated the artwork and things that we wanted to keep in the final design.” “When the furniture came in, they provided movers to not only move the new furniture in, but to move the old furniture to different rooms downstairs. They handled everything down to inserting light bulbs in the lamps.” “In the end, it was our vision because they listened to what we wanted and presented choices that we made. It was a positive experience from start to finish. We are happy with every single purchase and the overall look is exactly what we wanted.” “We highly recommend Sandy and Rachael from Decorating Den Interiors!” Whether you’re planning a one room or entire home update or renovation, experience the Decorating Den Interiors difference for yourself by calling them today. Having earned a well deserved reputation for encouraging their clients to actively participate in the design process, homeowners like Melissa and Eric discovered that you really can achieve the look and the vision that you have for your home. December Highlights

From the Publisher

s I look back on 2020, I ask myself where the year has gone? Seems that I was just taking out my Christmas decorations last year and here I am faced with my holiday decorating this year. Time really does go quickly and it makes me realize how I need to enjoy the journey more and not focus on what is left undone.

This year has been a challenging one. The pandemic has changed how we interact with one another, how we shop, how we learn, how we travel and how we celebrate. But we all have to focus on our health and the health of others. Our Section A feature article highlights a Knoxville pharmacy that has a holistic approach to living. Ellen Phillips, pharmacist and entrepreneur, provides the traditional pharmacy services combined with a holistic approach to health and well-being. She invites you to discover how believerRX can benefit you and your health.

So this holiday season, as we are busy with our everyday lives, take time to slow down. We at East Tennessee’s Mountain Views have come to appreciate all of our readers and advertisers, many of which have become great friends. We wish all of you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year. And we look forward to continuing to serve our community by highlighting all the best the Knoxville area has to offer while making new friends along the way. Enjoy the holiday season!

The Truth About Oriental Rug Washing

Combining the Latest Technology with Old-World Craftsmanship

I

By Kerry McDuffie, Owner of Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning

n recent years, the use of Oriental rugs at home and in the office has continued to grow in popularity. Often referred to as art for our floors, Oriental rugs embrace a unique form of hand-craftsmanship that has literally remained unchanged for centuries. These rugs combine all-natural fiber, primarily wool, all-natural dyes, and are still hand-knotted on looms as they have been for many hundreds of years. Oriental rugs can last almost indefinitely when well cared for and have earned a reputation for being extremely durable. In fact, many Oriental rug owners pass on their treasured rugs as family heirlooms to be enjoyed by future generations. But these durable and long-lasting rugs also have a gentler side. Their all-natural fibers and dyes make proper, periodic care all the more important. Unlike their wall-towall carpeting cousins, Oriental rugs cannot be cleaned using traditional carpet cleaning methods, as they would likely be damaged in the process. Genuine Oriental rugs can only be thoroughly and safely cleaned by washing

them – a process that can’t be properly performed by even the most ardent DIYer. At Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning, we have used our more than three decades of experience to create a proprietary 11-step rug washing process to safely clean even your most valuable Oriental rugs. You can watch our informative rug washing video online at www.superiorofknoxville.com. But our commitment to you doesn’t end there. We routinely attend training seminars offered by Oriental rug washing experts from across the nation to learn how to improve our craft. We also make ongoing financial investments in the latest, state-of-the-art equipment and technologies, which further enhance our already modern, state-of-the-art Oriental rug washing boutique in Farragut. Our recent technology investments include the “Marinator Decon System,” which enables us to wash the most difficult area of any rug, the inner rug fibers. In addition, we have just added the “Centrum Force Rug Wash Floor” that allows only fresh, pure water to gently cascade down your rugs, ensuring an all new level of clean. I

n a computer science class a hundred years ago, a Professor told me that the most sophisticated computer in the world is only as good as the data that is entered. This also applies to the front desk of any salon when it comes to booking appointments. Recently, we had a new guest show up for their ‘hair

color’ and ‘hair cut’ appointment. During the booking phone call, our guest asked our Desk Angel for an appointment to get a cut and color. Upon arrival in their provider’s chair, it was discovered that what our new guest was calling a cut and color was actually a base color, hilites, and a cut and style on very long hair.

Simply put, every single service she was expecting was booked incorrectly, and there was not near enough time for our provider to satisfy our new guest’s expectations. Now it is important to Brian K. Whitehead point out that there was no Managing Partner one at fault in this particThe Village Salon ular instance. Our Desk Angel that took the call The Village Salon booked exactly what our new 222 Village Square in Tellico Village guest was asking for, and our 865-458-9332 new guest requested exactly thevillagesalon@aol.com what she had always asked for at her previous salon. While booking an appointment at a new salon, it may be a good idea to paint a very detailed picture of the services you are expecting. Providing information such as receiving double process colors (where you receive color + hilites, or multiple colors), or if you have hair longer than shoulder length, can be particularly helpful in budgeting the correct amount of time for your services. Another good idea is to get a menu of services from a potential new salon so that you will have a glossary of terms to use while booking your appointment. If all else fails, you can always call me and I would be delighted to answer any questions you may have regarding your salon visits.

his has been an extremely tough year for a lot of small businesses. Many small business owners will depend on a positive financial holiday season so they can move into 2021. For this article, I thought of some simple ways we can all help. Buy gift cards or certificates - One way to put immediate cash into your local small business is by purchasing a gift card or gift certificate for future use. It gives the businesses immediate cash to help tide them over during a tough time. Shop local -When you need to stock up on necessities, shop from local businesses, both online and offline. If your local stores have online shops, consider shopping from them if you are at home. Order delivery or pickup from nearby restaurants - If you’re not up for cooking, order pickup or delivery from your nearby restaurants. Try calling the restaurant or ordering directly from their website rather than third-party apps so the business can avoid fees. Tip a little extra - Many forget that service workers are among the most that have been impacted. If you’re ordering in, make sure to tip extra, as many rely on this for their main source of income. Share on social media - If you can’t afford to go out or have sufficiently stocked up with what you need, encourage your friends and followers to support local businesses. Most small businesses have some form of social media. Share their posts so those in your circle can see it and support, too. We can all do our part to help a small business this holiday season. If you’re in Athens, please come visit us on 13 North Jackson Street or visit us online at www.athenschamber.org.

Give the Gift of Prevention This Season Reap the Benefits of Healthier Water While Evading Costly Plumbing Issues

W

By david Brewster, Owner of Aqua Clear Water Systems, LLC

hile our holiday gatherings may look different this year, it doesn’t change how much we care about the comfort of our family and friends. If you’re hosting, there are those stressors like deep cleaning and buying enough Christmas chocolates for the kids’ stockings. (And who are we kidding, adults’ stockings, too!) And if you’re traveling, logistics can be a real headache. But there’s one potentially hidden Grinch-like stressor I’d like to identify and solve before it becomes a major issue: That problem is pinhole leaks in your pipes. There are a few root causes of pinhole leaks. Chlorine in water is corrosive, and reacts with copper to create a chemical compound: Copper Chloride. This compound can slowly attack pipes from the inside, resulting in those tiny, but destructive, pinhole leaks. Also, hard water - an abundance of calcium or magnesium like we have here in East Tennessee can erode copper if a hot water recirculation pump is installed. I’ve heard pinhole leaks can become a huge pain - thankfully,

not from personal experience, but from our clients. We’ve encountered countless stories of massive flooding, ripping out ruined drywall, hidden mold lurching behind walls, and $10K-20K re-plumbing jobs due to these leaks. The sad part is most people think there is no repair alternative for old pipes except to completely gut the plumbing system. Fortunately, we have been able to save many clients from needing to turn their home into a job site by simply fixing the water that travels through those old pipes. The last thing any of us wants is to have holiday gatherings ruined by unexpectedly flooding or to return from travel to a horrible surprise. Aqua Clear’s Kinetico Water Systems remove the chlorine, chloramines, and the hardness that can harm copper pipes. We then add a special filter that re-coats and restores copper plumbing from the years of damage. After installing hundreds of Kinetico Systems to fix our clients’ pinhole leak issues, we can say with 100% certainty that it works. We’ve been saving our valued clients from costly repairs

by investigating their pipes before there is a problem. Not only does this save their indoor plumbing, they also reap the benefits of installing a Kinetico whole house water filtration system - healthier drinking water, smoother hair, softer skin, as well as extending the life of their appliances. At Aqua Clear Water Systems, we are so confident in our turn-key pinhole leak prevention system that we will refund your investment if it doesn’t stop your pinhole leak problem. Give us a call or text 865-986-4234 to schedule your FREE pinhole leak assessment, and get a jump start on ensuring the best experience for your holiday guests this season and for all the seasons to come! SO WHAT’S THE HURRY?

10A • East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, December, 2020

E

very year we seem to drift from the long hot days of summer into the warm, shorter days of September. Then we speed up to Halloween, then to

a rushed Thanksgiving and then suddenly it’s Christmas. But wait, take a deep breath, we’re missing something. It’s the peacefully beautiful season of Advent - A

time for us to slow down and prepare for the birth of Jesus. Advent in the Christian Church in the year 2020 begins on November 29 and ends on Christmas Eve, December 24. The word “advent” means “coming” in Latin. Christians use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare for the coming of the Christ Child. Today’s commercial world tends to ignore the season and jump right into Christmas, with carols and shopping ads. There are funny Christmas movies to watch, holiday lines to wait in, and ugly sweaters to wear to a party. Even getting a bad parking spot at Walmart this time of year feels like a Christmas ritual. It makes you smile, even while it’s just a little exhausting. Somewhere amidst the noise of the holiday season though, your heart is crying out for some quietness to savor the reason you’re celebrating Christmas at all. An Advent wreath usually marks the four Sundays in the Advent church season, lighting one candle each week. Advent calendars are also used to mark the days of the season but a lesser-known tradition is that of the Jesse Tree. Jesse Trees are a very old Christmas Tradition and first started in medieval

times. A Jesse Tree is a decorative tree used during Advent to retell the stories of the Bible that lead to Jesus’s birth. The first Jesse trees were large carvings, tapestries or even stained glass windows put in Churches that helped people who couldn’t read or write to learn about the Bible from creation to the Christmas Story. Today Jesse Trees are used as a type of Advent Calendar. You can use a normal Christmas tree or a banner in the shape of a tree. Each day through Advent (or sometimes just on the four Sundays of Advent) a special decoration or ornament (similar to a Chrismon), that tells a story from the Bible, is hung on the tree. Since Advent is a season of waiting, a Jesse Tree helps to build joy and anticipation as we live in the Advent Season. Wait for Christmas! This year we’ve been particularly frazzled and it just might be the perfect year to slow down and thoroughly enjoy the Advent Season before we leap into Christmas. How about a Jesse Tree for you and your family? Shepherd of the Lake 143 Chota Center Loudon, TN 37774 865-816-4756 www.shepherdofthelaketn.org

Good Shepherd Center Fundraiser Successful!

R

ecently the Good Shepherd Center sent a mailing to every residence, business, and P.O. Box in Monroe County and to residents in Tellico Village in Loudon County. The mailing pertained to its fall fundraiser. Previously, the fundraiser consisted of a Silent/Live Auction/Dinner event. Unfortunately, the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic required that the event be cancelled and replaced with the direct mail approach. The Center is thrilled to report this year’s direct mail campaign resulted in contributions totaling $65,457. Together we are helping our county build a better sense of community. How are the donations being spent? • The main expenditure will sustain the operation of the Center and allow it to fulfill its mission of providing free food and clothing to those in need in Monroe County.

Approximately 1500 families a month. • For Thanksgiving, each client will receive a complete Thanksgiving dinner. For Christmas, the clients will receive a turkey or a ham. • The Center is partnering with the Knights of Columbus of Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church to provide free coats and shoes to students who need assistance. • They provide funds for clients experiencing emergency assistance with their utility bills. • Due to the fundraiser they replaced its 1964 Dodge van with a used 2019 Ford Transit van. This van is used multiple times weekly to pick up food donations from local stores and growers. • The Center is retrofitting its overhead florescent lights with LED lights. This will result in lower monthly electric bills.

A Place for Our Place

A

n adult day center serving Loudon and Monroe counties took a step towards becoming a reality recently when the Tellico Community Foundation (TCF), an affiliated fund of the East Tennessee Foundation (ETF), awarded one-acre of land to Our Place, the notfor-profit advocating building the facility. The deed transfer was completed at the corner of Tennessee State Route 444 and Tennessee State Route 72 in Tellico Village where the planned adult day center

will be built. More than 70 invited donors and supporters of the three organizations attended the event with many using the zoom conference application. The one-acre plot is part of a 4.7-acre parcel gifted to the Tellico Community Foundation in December, 2019 with an assessed valuation of $920,000. The TCF land acquisition paralleled discussions Sue Newman, founder of Our Place, was having with various people about starting an adult day center. Newman’s late husband, Joel, was progressing through the final stages of dementia. Like many families confronted with this terrible illness, she had been frustrated by the lack of adult support programs in the immediate area. Her conversations included Joe Beyel, chair of TCF. An idea was born: TCF would donate up to one-acre of its gifted land to Newman’s fledgling charity, if she could raise $200,000 to start building the facility. Spurred by the fund-raising challenge, Newman and her friends formally organized and found a major sponsor in the First Baptist Church of Tellico Village. Thanks to the church’s generosity coupled with hundreds of contributions from Tellico Villagers and others in the area the goal was achieved by late September. “The Tellico Community Foundation is delighted to award this one-acre of land to Our Place and help Sue Newman and her organization start the process of building an adult day center,” commented Beyel. “Support for seniors is one of the areas of emphasis for TCF’s grant-making.”

First Baptist Church of Tellico Village 205 Chota Road • Loudon TN 37774 A Loving, Welcoming Family of Believers Charlie Barnard, Pastor Join us for worship on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. or on Saturdays at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. You may also worship with us online at www.fbctellicovillage.org. Visit www.fbctellicovillage.org for current service and event updates.

• The roof of the Center needs maintenance as well as other building needs. The Board of Directors, volunteers and staff want to thank all those who contributed to this year’s fundraiser. Also, there are numerous churches and people who make periodic contributions. Our thanks to them also. Together we are helping our county build a sense of community. People can make a one-time donation or a pledge over time: monthly, quarterly, or semi-annually. Any level of donation would be appreciated. Contributions are tax deductible. The Center is a 501 (c) 3 organization. The current campaign continued through October; however, funds are accepted year long. Donations can be mailed to: The Good Shepherd Center, PO Box 353, 5150 Hwy 411 S, Madisonville, TN 37354. The Center’s phone number is 423-420-8888.

Tennessee Foundation and Joe Beyel, chair, Tellico Community Foundation complete the transfer of an acre of land to Sue Newman, founder, Our Place for construction of an adult day center.

The land transfer was facilitated by the East Tennessee Foundation. “Thoughtful giving for stronger communities and better lives is our focus at ETF,” said Michael McClamroch, ETF president and chief executive officer. “ETF was pleased to provide the technical and legal assistance to make this transaction happen.” Newman was excited. “Today is a momentous occasion as we cross an initial hurdle on the path toward building a legacy for our community. The Our Place Board thanks the Tellico Community Foundation, the East Tennessee Foundation and the hundreds of people in Tellico Village, Loudon and Monroe counties that have supported the vision of an adult day center” Construction of the Our Place facility www.ourplacetn. org is expected to begin in the spring of 2021.

This Year It’s Holiday Casual

Fashion Sense

A

s we approach the holidays of 2020, it is clear they are unlike any we have ever known… the large parties and festivities that we once enjoyed are no longer recommended. With our new “norm” of small, intimate social gatherings, most of us will be spending the holidays at home or with small groups of family and friends. Therefore, our holiday wardrobes will become much more casual. No longer will the glitz and glitter of previous holidays show up on our shopping lists! You’ll look, instead, for that more relaxed, comfortable and casual outfit to add to your wardrobe this season. We, as buyers, had already seen fashion trends heading in a more casual direction… have you seen the tennis shoes on everyone from CEOs to A List Celebrities? So, it came as no surprise to us that casual fashions would be preferred this year, even before the Covid virus! When you visit The Lily Pad, you’ll notice the store is filled with all of the new and trending casual styles… matching athleisure sets, jogger pants, cozy sweaters, cute tennis shoes, and of course, don’t forget to pick up an adorable face mask to match! During this most unusual holiday season, our thoughts, more than ever, turn gratefully to those who have made our continued success possible. This year has been tough for small businesses – and we could not have gotten through it without our wonderful, supportive customers! In this spirit, we say simply, but most sincerely, thank you and wishes for a safe and joyous holiday season.

Assisted Living vs Independent Senior Living

s you or your loved one ages, the question of care begins to come to the forefront. How much daily care does the elder adult in your life require? And how do you find the appropriate senior housing to fit their needs in a respectful, dignified setting? Determining whether an assisted living facility is the correct path, or if an independent senior living facility is the suitable choice, is a good place to start. Assisted Living Assisted living facilities focus on helping residents with the activities of daily life. Some residents may require assistance with personal hygiene, mobility, medication, and even eating. Staff members are trained to offer this level of supervision and support, and some facilities have skilled nursing and medical services on-site. Active Senior Living Community In most cases, an active adult community provides minimal hands-on care by facility staff. If you or your seniors are in good health and are excited about a burden-freelifestyle, then an independent living facility would

“T

be your choice. This type of facility offers freedom from the responsibilities that come with home ownership along with the benefit of socialization with other seniors. As an independent senior community, Parkview Senior Living provides private apartments with access to multiple common areas, on-site dining, housekeeping/laundry services, weekly events and activities, building security, and with staff on premises 24/7 - peace-of-mind. While they don’t have on-site medical care, pill maintenance and other services are available. With the goal of making their residents’ lives easier with fewer responsibilities, Parkview also provides opportunities for socialization, exercise, and a sense of community. Which Community is Right for You? If you or your seniors are struggling to manage day-to-day needs, then assisted living is likely the right choice. If you’re an active senior, still able to care for your daily needs, and you’d like to connect with other active seniors, then an independent senior living community is your best bet.

There’s no place quite like Parkview for active seniors. Our residents enjoy luxurious surroundings, chef-prepared meals, a community of friends and a caring, experienced staff – all in a safe and secure environment. Plus there’s NO buy-in and NO long-term commitment!

Madisonville Kiwanis Christmas Parade

he Healing Power of Christmas” is the theme of the annual Madisonville Kiwanis Christmas Parade to be held Saturday, December 5th at 4:00 p.m. The parade will form on Anderson Drive by the Monroe Farmers Co-op and travel North on College Street past the Court House and then follow the route from last year. The Grand Marshalls for the parade are “Essential Workers” honoring all those in our community during the COVID Pandemic. Since there are too many to honor individually, we wish to honor everyone caught up in the crisis. All floats are eligible to win a cash prize. Judged floats will be parked by the Co-op, non-judged floats will be parked on Anderson Drive. Floats competing for prizes should be inplace for judging by 2:00 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, third place and Judges’ Choice. All floats

can be judged; churches, civic organizations, business, etc. An application to be judged must be submitted to City Hall by noon Friday before the parade. There are no fees to participate in the judging or the parade. Four wheel vehicles are not allowed and parade participants are asked not to distribute candy because of COVID. In the event of inclement weather, the Parade will be held on December 12th. All funds derived from the parade are donated to the local community by the Madisonville Kiwanis Club. Exile’s J.P. Pennington Reflects on 42 Years of Kissing People All Over

ny baby boomer who listened to the radio for even just a little bit in the seventies has, undoubtedly, heard the song, “Kiss You All Over” by the band, Exile, from the state of Kentucky. If you heard it once, you heard it a thousand times. It may come as a complete surprise to you (as it did to Boomerocity) that this year marks the 42nd anniversary of when the song hit number one on the music charts and remained in that spot for four weeks. It was the number five song of 1978 and ranked as the ninth in the 50 Sexiest Songs by Billboard Magazine. Currently, the song has amassed over 15.7 million Spotify streams and is included in 75.2K playlists. As 2020 has evolved and changed the landscape of fan interaction, the band has released a new Covid-19 mask with the well-recognized ‘Kiss You All Over’ lip logo to commemorate the anniversary and keep fans safe. Fans can order the mask at

the band’s website, Exile.biz. “We’d love to ‘Kiss You All Over’, but in the interest of keeping everyone safe, here’s our solution to keep us all safe and COVID free!” shares the band members. They added, “We’re extremely pleased and thankful to be one of the lucky artists that have had a “signature song” in our careers - one of those songs that just stays around through the years, from generation to generation.”

A breath of fresh air for your home Screens of East Tennessee 865.919.1615 steve@tennesseescreens.com

“Kiss You All Over” has recently been included in the Soundtrack for the major motion picture, ‘The Big Ugly,’ starring Vinnie Jones, Ron Perlman and Malcolm McDowell. It has also been included in thirty-two other productions including Happy Gilmore, Man on the Moon, Zookeeper, Wild Hogs, Employee of the Month, Hello Ladies, American Swing and miniseries Mindhunter (Netflix), Pose (FX), Red Oaks (Amazon) and Imposters (Bravo). 2020 celebrates the 57th anniversary for the band, which formed in Richmond, Kentucky. Since their beginning in 1963, the band has had No. 1 hits on the pop and country charts, achieving ten number 1 hits on the country chart, three gold albums and over 8 million records sold. The Kentucky Music Hall of Fame members will continue to tour performing their greatest hits, fan-favorite on-theroad songs from over the years, and will announce new projects later in 2020. With all this going on, Boomerocity reached out to founding Exile member, J.P. Pennington, via a Zoom video call at his Kentucky home. Obviously, we discussed the forty-second anniversary of “Kiss You All Over” as well as what all J.P. and the band have been working on during the “COVID” lull. Our conversation began with me commenting on the fact that, despite the song’s age, it still has “legs” and sounds as though it was written and recorded yesterday. Pennington responded by saying, “Well, thank you. You know, the song has a good beat - good feel to it. It’s very simple, a

Undercover Systems of Tennessee Delivering 5 Star Experiences Since 2004

F

very simple song as far as the feel of it goes. I think that’s part of the reason that it has helped to hold up over the years. Of course, lyrically, when you’re singing a lyric like ‘I Want To Kiss You All Over’, it resonates with people. That song, when it first came out, it caused a lot of trouble especially in radio. “We had so many people who came out against it - program directors who came out against it, some of them quitting their jobs because their boss told him to play the song. All that information sort of got around, and although it was negative, it started making that song sell like hotcakes. “Jesse Jackson came out against it. He was on like, the national nightly news. He made a comment about it of how people like us were causing the degradation of American society. And man, I mean, the song, it just took off. But the song, compared to now, I mean, the song is pretty innocent. “But, you know, I think our fans like to make of it what they will, which is fine. I mean, it says, ‘I want to kiss you all over’, and, literally, that means you want to kiss someone all over. Right? But in essence, it was really written as a double entendre, meaning, ‘I want to kiss you again. I want to kiss you all over.’ That was kind of our ‘out’, you know.’” Space prevents us from sharing the entire conversation here. However, the entire fascinating video of our conversation can be watched at Boomerocity.com. In it, you’ll hear J.P. share about upcoming albums (yes, more than one!) as well as tour plans with none other than the legendary country group, Alabama.

Randy’s first interview was at the tender age of 13 with none other than Col. Tom Parker. Thirty-six years later he founded the webzine, Boomerocity. com, and has conducted close to 200 interviews with some of the most interesting people in music.

ABOUT PEGGY FIELDS

LONG TERM CARE SOLUTIONS SPECIALIST

My mom cared for her elderly aunt and my grandma, both of which had broken hips at the same time! Thinking back, I have no idea how she pulled that off while taking care of us 6 kids. After that caregiving experience, my mom bought a Long-Term Care insurance plan because she didn’t want us to go thru that same, very stressful physical and emotional experience. My mother-in-law also has a plan that helped with a seamless transition for her move into an assisted living facility! When my husband and I were in a virtual meeting with our ACSIA Partners’ Long-Term Care Agent, our daughter walked in and said, “Mom, you know I’ll take care of you!” Our agent responded: “Oh, Peggy, she doesn’t know the reality of what she’s saying, literally, and speaking only from her heart.” And she was absolutely right. My experience working with our agent was so positive, and because I clearly understood the value of owning a plan and how it protects my income and my family, I decided to start my insurance career here at ACSIA Partners so I can help others do the same!

Introduction of Peggy Fields M

y name is Peggy Fields and may be familiar to you because my husband, Bob, and myself were blessed to be your neighbors for 9 wonderful years. As a direct result of 911, Bob’s employer, United Airlines discontinued service at McGhee Tyson Airport, and transferred us to Houston. Although leaving our friends was difficult, Bob will be retiring soon, and we have begun planning our return. After years of observing firsthand the profound impact on seniors receiving prolonged care at assisted living facilities, in-home care, and nursing homes, I decided to become part of the solution. I have a genuine desire to assist others who will be faced with these challenging decisions. In my capacity as a Long-Term Care Specialist, I listen, ask and answer questions as well as make recommendations. My only objective is to provide you with the information that you’ll need to make the best decision for you and your family. Long-term care insurance isn’t for everyone. If you have assets to protect, then it’s for you. If you don’t want your kids to have to take care you, it’s for you. Planning for long-term care is a critical investment in your future. hloe has watched many shelter friends come and go. After being in the shelter since August, she wants to be that special girl for someone. She is an adorable, sweet 1-yr. old DSH tortie female. A little shy at first, she warms up quickly when she realizes you just want to love her. A little patience and she is purring away. Chloe wants to purr in your arms. Mame is another pretty little 1-yr old girl. This dilute Calico has lived in the shelter since June. She watches the other cats leave with sadness and she wants to leave too. She enjoys attention when you give it but is also contented to sit back watching whatever is going on around her. A window to watch the birds and trees would make her very happy. When you are ready to give her love, she is ready to love you back. Christian came to shelter as a stray. This young 4-yr old DSH tortie female cutie grooms herself to be very clean at all times. She is very affectionate and wants to be petted and loved. She makes sure she always looks her best to be ready for that trip to her new home. These precious cats were found wandering outdoors alone, so please remember an indoor cat is a happier, healthier cat. All animals adopted are spayed or neutered, have age appropriate vaccinations and Combo testing, and are microchipped (with registration). Cats are litter box trained. $50 adoption fee (over 1 year old) $60 (under 1 year old) and seniors are $40.

cats or small dogs. Why don’t you adopt Honey?!! She would make a great addition to your home.

SNAP/MCFA (Spay Neuter Assistance for Pets/Monroe County Friends of Animals) offers free vouchers to qualifying families for a spay or neuter procedure at participating local veterinarians. Until further notice, voucher sessions will be held as a “phone in” ONLY. Vouchers are available to qualified Monroe County residents ONLY. Please adopt. The shelter intakes are normally greater than adoptions. The joy of an animal leaving the shelter is heartwarming. If you can’t adopt, become a foster parent. The shelter provides as much personal attention as possible; it can’t replace the attention received in your home. A foster home changes an animal’s life and often literally saves it. If you love animals, but can’t make a full-time commitment, get your animal “fix” by fostering. There is no out-of-pocket expense when fostering. Honey is this week’s Dog of the Week from the Monroe County Animal Shelter. Honey is a 9 year old female retriever/black lab mix. She weighs 49 pounds. As a senior dog, she would prefer a calm quiet house in which to retire. She is great with people but can’t be around

It May Not Fit Under Your Tree... But It Will Fit Over Your Boat W

By Tom Irmen

e’re sold! Like other area boaters, we frequently see boats in docks, both private and some community docks, that are protected by Touchless Boat Cover System. The concept is a simple one...create a garage for your boat that protects your watercraft like your home’s garage protects your vehicles. But it wasn’t until multiple boat owners on our community dock in Rarity Bay installed the Touchless Boat Cover that we made the decision to make the investment by redirecting a portion of the money we saved from a canceled 2020 Mediterranean cruise. Previously when we arrived at our dock for a day on the lake, we had to first clear away the cobwebs from the sides of our boat. Then we removed the straps that secured our boat cover and then removed the cover. We shook the cover off to shake off the spiders that remained before folding the cover and placing it in our dock box. We would wash the bird and spider droppings off the cover when we returned.

Before we had started to wipe the cobwebs and spider droppings from the now exposed topside areas of our boat, the boat owners in the slip across from ours arrived. They pressed their key fob, their Touchless Cover was fully raised in 30 seconds or less. They lowered their boat lift, started their outboard engine and were off in 5 minutes or less. On a recent outing on the lake, we pressed our key fob. While our Touchless

Cover was rising, we lowered our boat lift. We turned on the battery, started the blower and after the required interval, started our engine. We were off for an enjoyable day on the lake. And yes, we’re using our boat far more than before. And the spiders? I can’t explain it. They’ve mostly disappeared. And our newly detailed boat looks just like it did on the showroom floor in 2007. Thinking about protecting that invest-

ment you’ve made in your boat. Call Patrick Boring today and give yourself an early Christmas gift this year that you’ll enjoy all season long and for many years to come. Lifetime Docks, LLC Patrick Boring 865-719-0027 patrick@lifetimedockstn.com www.lifetimedockstn.com www.touchlesscover.com

Prepare for Immersive – and Safe – Holidays

tarting on Nov. 23, Downtown Knoxville transformed into an immersive holiday experience for residents and visitors, including thousands of new holiday lights, decorated windows, murals and new twists on both the Peppermint Trail and The Elf on the Shelf® scavenger hunt.

Downtown Knoxville Alliance funded new holiday lighting in Market Square called the Peppermint Grove. The peppermint-themed lighting display will be lit 24 hours a day from Nov. 23 through mid-February.

“Downtown Knoxville has become the heart of the holidays, and we want to make it extra special this year,” said Michele Hummel, executive director of the Downtown Knoxville Alliance. “Due to the pandemic, we’ve worked with the City of Knoxville to create a safe and family-friendly experience for residents and visitors as they eat, drink, shop and explore this holiday season.” New holiday lighting in Market Square, funded by the Downtown Knoxville Alliance and called the Peppermint Grove, will be lit 24 hours a day from now through mid-February. The square’s mature oak trees and lampposts will create a red and white candy wonderland. The peppermint-themed lighting display will be in addition to the City of Knoxville’s Christmas in the City lights, which includes a 42-foot Christmas tree on Gay Street; and twinkling lights throughout Krutch Park and the Old City. The City’s Holidays on Ice will be moving from Market Square to the Civic Coliseum. Additional holiday experiences running from Nov. 27Jan. 3 and organized by the Downtown Knoxville Alliance, in partnership with Visit Knoxville, Dogwood Arts and downtown businesses include: • The fifth-annual The Elf on the Shelf®scavenger hunt will be entirely contact-free this year as Scout Elves hide in the storefront windows of dozens of participating downtown businesses. Participants can share photos via social media using the hashtag #ElvesInKnox and tagging @downtownknox for chances to win weekly gift card drawings. • The Peppermint Trail returns with a twist: Restaurants and businesses throughout downtown will of-

fer specially crafted drinks, treats and gifts featuring peppermint along with other holiday flavors, such as gingerbread, cinnamon, cranberry and apple spice. Peppermint-themed decals will mark the sidewalk outside participating merchants. • A new holiday mural in Strong Alley by artist Megan Lingerfelt will provide an Instagram-worthy photo op. Don’t forget to tag @downtownknox. “We are grateful for the participation of many downtown businesses in helping us create this festive holiday experience,” Hummel said. “We hope downtown residents and visitors will enjoy the holiday scenery while supporting these shops and restaurants.” The Downtown Knoxville Alliances reminds everyone to make health and safety a top priority. Wear a mask – the more festive, the better – practice physical-distancing and stay home when sick. For more information, visit www.downtownknoxville. org/holiday. The Retirement Income Teeter Totter By Yvonne Marsh, CFP®, CPA

T

he continued uncertainty of the economy and stock market has millions of Americans worried that their retirement could be rocky and unstable. When the stock market is roaring, it’s easy enough to believe that potential gains will continue to fund a stable retirement. But when the stock market becomes wobbly and unpredictable, current and future retirees start to ask themselves: Will my income in retirement be reliable? If you’re in the critical period of five years before through ten years after retirement, you might be worried about maintaining your income during times like these. The market and economy teeter back and forth, and you’re concerned about being caught on the downside right when you need the money. You might be asking yourself: • Is there anything I can do to help stabilize my cash flow, even if my investments are fluctuating? • How do I handle the uncertain future without giving up too much? • Will my spouse be able to enjoy a steady stream of cash flow when I’m gone? Here are 3 Reliable Ways to Steady Your Income: 1. Social Security is the biggest source of government-guaranteed, inflation-adjusted, lifetime in-

come you’ll have in retirement, but much of the available information is contradictory, confusing, and downright incorrect. Fortunately, there are still decisions you can make to boost your Social Security payout as much as you possibly can. 2. Though many Americans no longer have access to pension plans, some do. Pensions can be a critical component to help provide steady retirement income if you have access to one. Understanding how to potentially maximize your benefits is key

to optimizing this key source of income. 3. Transitioning your portfolio from the “building phase” to the “retirement phase” is critical to creating your stable income stream. Fortunately, there are many strategies that don’t fluctuate just because the stock market does. Including these assets for a portion of your portfolio can help steady it, even when markets or the economy are teetering on the edge. Don’t allow stock market uncertainty to destabilize your retirement income. We can help you discover ways to balance chaotic market conditions with a more reliable stream of income through the turbulent times ahead. December In the Garden

2

by

Lisa Grugin

020 was a year like no other, and many of you used the time you had at home to work on your landscape. Others are still working. Now that we are moving into winter, it is a good time to evaluate what you have done or what you want to do. If things didn’t quite turn out the way you wanted or if you still have plans, let us help you put the right plant in the right place. The ground seldom freezes here, so you can continue to plant right on through the winter. With that being said, I know that most of us are not going to do a lot of yard work this month. There is simply too much to do during the holidays, so I am going to do what I traditionally do and tell you how to take care of some of your holiday plants. If you have questions about others, such as Amaryllis and Cyclamen, give us a call. Christmas Cactus The Christmas cactus and its cousins are very low maintenance, but there are a few tricks to growing them: » They are tropical cactus, not desert cactus. They don’t like hot afternoon sun and do not like to get bone dry. They do like lots of light, however, and won’t bloom well if kept in too dark a spot. » The bloom cycle is triggered by cool temperatures and longer periods of darkness. Keep them away from heat sources and give them 13 hours of darkness per day. » Don’t overwater. Every couple of weeks is fine for most homes. Once the blooms have finished, let them

rest for a bit by withholding water for five to six weeks. When you see new growth, it is time to resume regular watering. If the plant has been in the same pot for more than three to four years, or if it is very crowded, you will need to up-pot. Don’t worry if you accidentally break some pieces off, because they are easy to propagate. Call us if you need instructions. Cut Christmas Trees and Greenery The number one rule for cut trees is to know when the tree was cut! If you don’t cut it yourself, ask. Some of the trees that go to box stores, warehouse stores, and grocery stores were cut in October for the sake of logistics. Rule two: After you pick your tree, have the seller do a fresh cut or do it yourself when you get home. Immediately put the tree in water and do NOT let it dry out. They can drink a gallon of water a day at first, so choose a stand with sufficient capacity. Some people will recommend various additives to help your tree stay fresh longer, but most experts say that water is fine on its own. As for wreaths and garland, they will do best if they are sprayed with an anti-transpirant to prevent moisture loss or misted with water regularly. They are also happiest if they get some shade from hot afternoon sun. Poinsettias Poinsettias are considered plant divas, but it is because someone decided a tropical plant would be a great winter flower. If you want to keep them alive, follow these guidelines: » Always buy from a greenhouse or garden center. The box stores and groceries simply do not have the experience to handle a poinsettia. » Please don’t purchase a plant that is

already in a plastic sleeve. This camouflages damage and creates a fungal breeding ground around the plant. The plant should be placed in a sleeve for transportation, but remove the sleeve when you get home by cutting it off or pulling it from the bottom. » Don’t expose the poinsettia to cold temperatures. Anything below 50 will damage it. Freezing temperatures will kill it in less than a minute. Keep it away from drafts or windows and doors. » The bracts are very fragile because of the size of the blooms. This means they should be put where they will not be bumped or brushed against. » The poinsettia is not poisonous. Some people (and animals) may have a reaction to the sap, however, so keep them away from pets and children.

» Water the plant when the soil feels dry. I find it easiest to take mine out of the wrap and put it in the sink to water it. After it drains, I put it back in the wrap. Don’t let water stand in the wrap, however, because the poinsettia is prone to root rot. That’s all for this month! Don’t forget to keep bird feeders and birdbaths clean and full, and stop in and see us during the winter for any garden needs! From all of us to all of you, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Give the Gift of Safety and Life this Holiday Season

recent article in BoatUS describes how two young friends, boys ages 10 and 11, drowned in Cherokee Lake. Sadly they died from Electric Shock Drowning or ESD. ESD occurs when low levels of A/C current enter the water from faulty electrical wiring on family docks and boats. This current incapacitates a swimmer, causing them to drown. It is also poses a significant health risk to those attempting to rescue these individuals. The article went on to say that as many as 7 other swimmers were reportedly drowned from ESD nationally during this same summertime period and that there were probably at least as many near misses. It is also likely that other ESD drownings occurred but went unidentified as such. Electric Shock Drownings have been likened to entering a bathtub with an electric hair dryer in your hand. But in this case, the hair dryer is your boat or dock. The real tragedy of these stories is that these drownings needn’t have taken place. The solution is a simple one costing only $799. That’s right. For the combined annual costs of detailing and winterizing your family’s boat, these deaths likely

could have been prevented. Called ShockIQ, this state of the art device can be installed on your dock to detect stray A/C electrical current in the water near your dock. At the first sign of current in the water, ShockIQ swiftly and safely shuts down the A/C power to your dock while sounding an audible alarm. Tragedy averted. The ShockIQ is available from Lifetime Docks for only $799 and can easily be installed by the dock owner. To learn more, call Patrick Boring at 423-566-7401. With Christmas only a few short weeks away, there is no better gift for the entire family than ShockIQ. It’s a gift that will allow your family and friends to safely enjoy countless summers on and in the water, and to create a lifetime of unforgettable memories. Lifetime Docks, LLC

was 76 years old when I developed issues with my lower teeth,” said Carolyn McNeil. “Our family dentist of 40 years recommended Dr. Jonathan Bradshaw, DDS. Our dentist did not perform extractions or implants. They attended the same church, and he recognized Dr. Bradshaw as an upstanding man with exceptional abilities. He also spoke highly of his character, which was important to me.” Carolyn’s son and his family had been seeing Dr. Bradshaw for several years and were extremely pleased. “They were pleased with the Heritage Family Dentistry team,” she said. “The office was lovely and a place where the patients could be comfortable as well. Because of my family’s recommendation, I met with Dr. Bradshaw. He offered valuable information and recommended implants. His team helped me understand the procedure along with all the information about the care needed to make this happen in a timely manner. My experience was amazing. Everyone was so patient with me. They were kind and sensitive to my every need.” When Carolyn completed her procedure at Heritage Family Dentistry, she was very excited. “My teeth looked wonderful!” she said. “I no longer hid my mouth, and I could smile with the greatest of ease. It took a little getting adjusted to, but I sure enjoy eating

food that I have not been able to eat for years. By the way, I feel like I look younger. I will be forever grateful to Heritage Family Dentistry for making my life better. “If you require any type of dentistry, especially implants, I certainly recommend visiting Heritage Family Dentistry. You will be glad you did!” A note about dental implants Dental implants are a long-term solution for individuals who are missing teeth. Because they are embedded in your jawbone just like your natural teeth, they help reduce bone loss in the jaw, which is often the case with dentures. Implants can’t develop cavities and will not affect neighboring teeth. In fact, if properly cared for, your dental implants can last a lifetime, whereas bridges and dentures need to be replaced every 7 to 15 years. Also, there are frustrations or discomfort from ill-fitting dentures or dietary restrictions. Garage Renovation: Starting from the Floor Up

M

ost of us grew up with a totally utilitarian garage with a coated floor – coated with oil and dirt. But today’s garages have become an extension of a home’s living space, and that means creating a clean space with flooring that’s durable and easy to clean. For a striking and durable garage floor coating that is easy to maintain, Knoxville’s PremierGarage can transform an oil-stained, pitted, or peeling epoxy-coated garage floor into a showroom quality look. PremierGarage, the nation’s leader in garage enhancements and remodeling, combines its proprietary hybrid polymer flooring system technology with their extensive industry knowledge and experience to provide a high-quality finish that is chemical, stain, and slip resistant. “There have been many improvements in coating technology over the past 20 years and the preferred garage flooring is our polyurea coating,” explains Brain Falls, co-owner of PremierGarage of Knoxville. “Polyurea is a hard coating that’s widely specified in commercial settings where failure is not an option and floors are designed to last.” The two-day process starts with technicians who diamond grind each floor to the ideal surface condition to achieve a permanent chemical bond that substantially K eKee ne ne err H mees s, ,I nIcn. c . outlives traditional epoxies. Storage Wars

Don’t Live it in Your House

W

hile you may enjoy watching the TV show Storage Wars, it’s definitely not fun to be living a storage war! Living in your own storage war at home means you’re constantly battling for space and organization to store things, especially in your closets. Piles of shoes on the floor, shirts and sweaters thrown chaotically A set of double drawers is a on a shelf, and a jumbled must in a shared master closet. mess of scarves and belts on a spare hanger. And of course we all have clothes stuffed in our closet we don’t wear: We’re just hoping that someday we can fit into them again! Here are a few practical tips on being more organized and sharing a closet space with your spouse: Her Side vs His Side Sharing a master closet is nearly impossible when a couple’s clothes are mixed together. It’s often confusing and definitely frustrating as you struggle to find your clothes. And yes, typically women need more space for their clothing and accessories. Women have tall boots, ankle-high boots, longer dresses, knee-length dresses and purses. All these items need dedicated space in the closet. Many couples create a visual “dividing line” in their closet to clearly indicate who has what side, such as a double set of drawers in the middle if you’re sharing the space fifty-fifty, or the woman gets an additional wall for hanging items. Avoid the Back-and-Forth Routine to the Bedroom Having drawers in your closet for socks, underwear, jewelry and other items means you don’t have to go back and forth from the closet to the bedroom dresser. This saves you valuable time getting dressed and you don’t wake up your spouse if he/she gets up later in the morning. New houses now have larger master closets to accommodate space for drawers. Use Vertical Storage Space If you have ceilings nine feet or higher taking advantage of vertical storage is important. Even small closets designed with taller cabinets will provide big storage. For many older homes with lower ceilings the standard height of the top shelf is often at just over seven feet. Today’s new homes have ceilings that are nine feet or higher. Stay on Your Side of the Closet Respecting one another’s space and belongings is key to maintaining shared closet harmony. Make an effort to keep your area of the closet tidy and don’t let your collection of workout clothes or jeans overflow into your partner’s area. No mater the size of your closet or budget, call Tailored Living of Knoxville to give you a design that maximizes your storage space and budget! Born in America

t’s another American success story, except that this story began in Tennessee. Tennessee native Ray Jackson returned to his hometown of Cleveland, Tennessee in 1933 after working in an Ohio automotive assembly plant. Ray started a furniture upholstery company and several years later invested his total savings of $30 and launched Jackson Furniture. Today, Jackson Furniture Industries employs over 1,500 workers in 7 factories in 3 states. Jackson Furniture Industries is no doubt best known for its iconic brand Catnapper. Having earned a reputation for quality and value, Jackson Furniture offers customers a full line of sofas, reclining sofas, recliners, sectionals, lift chairs, sleepers, accent chairs and cocktail ottomans. Today, Jackson Furniture sells its furniture exclusively through its preferred network of dealers. Perhaps because Jackson Furniture is still family owned, it prefers to distribute its furniture products through other family owned dealers that share their commitment to a strong American work ethic, quality, value and a desire to serve their community. Locally, Jackson Furniture has selected Plaza Electronics & Appliances of Athens, TN to distribute its products. A second generation, family owned business, Plaza has been the first choice for many East Tennesseans in the market for appliances, electronics, mattresses and furniture since 1988.
