Navigating the Replacement Window Marketplace
I
N 2020, an estimated 36 million
replacement windows will be sold in the U.S. according to Principia Consulting, the Pennsylvania-based building materials and construction industry’s preeminent research and consulting firm. It’s no wonder that homeowners often feel overwhelmed when it’s time to select replacement windows for their home. While the life expectancy of your home’s windows is difficult to predict, their longevity typically depends on a variety of factors, including their age, brand, and proper maintenance. When it’s time to replace some or all of your home’s windows, you may discover that your decision will be complicated by competing claims from dozens of window manufacturers and rival installation companies. Purge Your Closet of the Past, Forge a College Student’s Future

NOXVILLE-BASED organization professionals Chris McKenry, President of Closets by McKenry, and Carrie McConkey, owner of Carrie M. Image & Fashion Consulting, both believe success begins in the closet. That’s why they’re helping their clients and other Knoxvillians pass along gently used career clothing to deserving students at their mutual alma mater, Carson-Newman University (C-N). In March 2017, C-N’s Student Success Center staff realized that students were struggling to obtain professional clothing suitable for career fairs, job interviews, and class presentations. The idea for a combined career wardrobe closet and food pantry was born, and less than two years later, THE STORE was launched thanks to an outpouring of support from the school and community. Today THE STORE Career Closet, located in a renovated classroom on C-N’s campus, houses men’s and women’s business professional and business casual clothing, shoes, and accessories in a retail store-like setting. THE STORE Food Pantry is located in an adjacent classroom fitted with custom shelves overflowing with food staples. All items are available free of charge to students in need of professional style or
nutritional sustenance. After visiting THE STORE Career Closet, McConkey excitedly contacted McKenry. “I knew through our similar services we could partner to help support the effort,” said McConkey, who is often hired to help sort through closets bursting with clothing. “When working with clients to design their new closet – even if they will have their dream closet, larger than before – ‘editing’ is what is almost always mentioned,” said McKenry. “By purging what is no longer wanted, in style, or used makes room to see what is really loved and often overlooked in our wardrobe.” The two quickly identified a convenient clothing donation location: McKenry’s new Closets by McKenry showroom, located
at 201 Center Park Drive, Suite 1070 in Knoxville. Professional apparel can be dropped off anytime during business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm. “As a business graduate of CarsonNewman University, I am excited to share in this program,” said McKenry. “Many students can take advantage of business attire in great condition as they start out on interviews and join the work force.” “Yesterday can get in the way of today,” said McKenry on the value of passing on clothing that no longer fits our lives (or figures). Leading Jazz Artists to Perform in Benefit for Knoxville’s Joy of Music School INTERNATIONALLY TREASURED
saxophonist, Gregory Tardy, and touring jazz pianist/recording artist, Taber Gable, will headline a special evening of music and food on Tuesday, March 10, at the Pavilion at Hunter Valley Farm in West Knoxville. Saxophonist, multi-reedist, and composer, Gregory Tardy, is one of the most versatile jazz musicians of his generation, equally 8

comfortable in a variety of musical and improvisational situations. As an associate professor at the University of Tennessee, he makes Knoxville his home. But his performance schedule has taken him all across the world, playing at all of the major jazz festivals and on some of the biggest stages in jazz. Tardy has been featured on several Downbeat Albums of the Year and also several Grammy-nominated recordings, including a Grammy-winning CD with Brian Lynch in 2006. He also has recorded 14 CDs under his own name featuring his unique compositions, blending his love of traditional jazz with a more modern-seeking style. His latest release, “Chasing After the Wind,” appeared in the fall of 2016. Pianist Taber Gable, a former student at the Joy of Music School, earned a bachelor’s in Jazz Studies from the University of Hartford and recently graduated from the Juilliard School with a master’s in Jazz Performance. He has studied under Kenny Barron, Wynton Marsalis, Kenny Washington, and many other notable teachers.
Gable is a highly sought-after musician in the New York jazz scene and is internationally known for his cross-genre abilities and captivating live performance style. He has been called on to play and tour alongside numerous great musicians such as Marcus Strickland, EJ Strickland, Freddie Hendrix, Terrace Martin, Joe Farnsworth, Myron Walden, Braxton Cook, Nat Reeves, Nubya Garcia, Javon Jackson, Steve Davis, Nat Reeves, Abraham Burton, Carolyn Leonhart, Jeremy Pelt, Jimmy Greene, Eric McPherson, and others. From the start, the feud is action packed with “battles” of musical talents, clogging and dancing, and dozens of imaginative diving stunts. Guests will be amazed as the stage features dancing one minute and then morphs into a pool equipped with boats and diving boards. During the show, even the audience becomes
part of the feud by taking part in competitions set at the Sevier County Fair. is the oldest member-based craft guild in Tennessee, with about 250 members. We have two jury sessions annually and host two fine craft shows each year – March 20-21 at the Venue at Lenoir City and November 6-8 at the Knoxville Expo Center. We also sponsor workshops and craft demonstrations of fine handcrafted pieces. New members also may sell their work through the Foothills website. The Guild welcomes new members whose creative handiwork demonstrates stimulating visual appeal, good design, and fine craftsmanship. Work must go through a jurying process. All active Guild members are encouraged to participate in Guild activities by exhibiting or demonstrating at Guild shows,

serving on committees or on the Board of Directors, or by participating in other activities sponsored by the Guild. How to Qualify for Membership 1. Applicants must reside in Tennessee. 2. Applicants must submit five pieces of their craft along with five photos. 4. Items must be of original design and produced by the artist within the past two years. The next jury session for 2020 will be in July. Applications are due to Foothills by July 1, accompanied by a $35 fee. (Instructions for submitting them are on our website.) When completing your application, be thoughtful and descriptive with the explanations of your work and the process you use to create it. Make your descriptions interesting. Did you know that a serving of dried fruit counts as one serving of fruit toward your daily nutrition goals? That’s just one more reason to sneak dried fruit into lots of recipes for a pop of flavor that gives every dish more depth and appeal. These dried fruits also contain no added sugar - they just provide natural sweetness to your recipes. Here are three dried fruits to try for maximum taste and nutrition. 1. Apricots Plump, sweet, and delicious, one serving of dried apricots is only 100 calories. Apricots are a good source of vitamin A and potassium, and they can be eaten as a snack or added to a variety of recipes. Mediterranean and Indian dishes are great uses for dried apricots. Try chopping them up to add zing to rice pilaf or to balance the spice and heat in an Indian meal. Baked goods like muffins or oatmeal cookies are enhanced by adding chopped dried apricots. 2. Acorn Squash Date Bowls Prep time: 4 minutes Ingredients: » 2 small acorn squash » 1 tablespoon coconut oil » Salt and pepper to taste » 1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained » 1 sprig fresh rosemary » 1 cup water » 1/2 cup dry quinoa » 3 tablespoons pumpkin seeds » 6 Sunsweet pitted dates (or more to taste) Instructions: Preheat oven to 425°F. Cut acorn squash in half and scoop out seeds. Brush coconut oil over inside of squash halves. Roast in oven on baking sheet, cut side down, 30 minutes. Turn cut side up and season with salt and pepper; roast 20 minutes more. Place garbanzo beans in rimmed baking dish and toss with 2 teaspoons coconut oil and a pinch of salt. Roast 15 minutes, then stir lightly and add rosemary; roast 5 to 10 minutes more. Place water and quinoa in small saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cook, covered, 15 minutes. Remove from heat with lid still on and let stand 10 minutes, then fluff with fork. Chop Sunsweet Pitted Dates and roasted rosemary. Stir together dates, rosemary, quinoa, garbanzo beans and pumpkin seeds. Scoop into acorn squash and serve warm. Makes 4 servings. course is a 26.2-mile journey through scenic Knoxville. The course has been designed to show off Knoxville and run through several of its fine neighborhoods. The 2020 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon is the state championship marathon for Tennessee. All races start on the Clinch Avenue Bridge and finish in World’s Fair Park. Runner refreshment stations will be set up along the course, along with 30 great musical acts lined up all across the course that will give you a feel for locally grown music and will keep you moving! Schedule » Kids Run: March 28 at 5:30 pm. » 5K: March 28 at 7 pm » Marathon, Half Marathon, 4-Person Relay & 2-Person Relay: March 29 at 7:30 am Amenities & packet pickup All marathon participants will receive a top quality technical t-shirt and goody bag upon packet pickup at the Health & Fitness Expo on March 28 from 9 am to 8 pm at the World’s Fair Exhibition Hall. Note: This is a mandatory packet pickup; there is no race day packet pickup. The Health & Fitness Expo will be a fun, high-energy event that features exhibitors of running and fitness apparel, shoes, and other supplies, as well as other products and services in fitness, sports, and nutrition. We will also have exhibitors in other areas of interest to our participants, families, and friends. At the finish line, marathon finishers will receive a finishers’ medal, commemorative 1/4 zip finishers’ pullover, and refreshments at the Pilot Flying J Post-Race Party. Refreshments during and after the race The marathon course will feature 18 runner refreshment stations. Each station will feature Gatorade and Mountain Valley Spring Water. There will also be four gel stations serving GU (flavors: Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Outrage, and Tri-Berry) at approximately the 6.3, 16, 21, and 23 mile marks. After finishing, be sure and join us at the Pilot Flying
J Post-Race Party on the Festival Lawn at World’s Fair Park. This year we will serve Fanatic Beer at the Post-Race Party on Saturday night after the 5K and Sunday after the marathon, half marathon, and relay. They will have Fanatic Blonde, Fanatic Red, and Fanatic IPA on tap for participants age 21 and up. You will not want to miss this year’s postrace celebration! Live music We will have 30 great musical acts lined up all over the course! Dante Music Entertainment has recruited and coordinated live musical acts that will give you a feel for locally grown music and they’ll keep you moving. In addition, we’ll have Party Boys DJ Show at the start line, the finish line, and a special place along the course. Restrictions Marathon participants must be 18 years of age or older. Marathon participants must be able to complete the course, whether running or walking, in seven hours. The course will be rolled-up in a 16 minute/mile pace. The finish line will remain open for seven hours. There is no separate start time for walkers. Timing We will use a chip timing system for the marathon. The chip time will generate a net time for you personally in addition to your gun time. (Note: Awards are based off of gun time.) Portable toilets On course, we will have plenty of portable toilets. They will be near (but not right next to) every water station. There will be five at each of the first six water stations, four at each of the next nine water stations, and two at each of the remaining three water stations on course. There will also be plenty available at the start, both on the concourse in front of the Knoxville Convention Center and on the plaza terrace level of the KCC. Medical support Plenty of medical support will be available throughout the course, at the finish line, and at the Pilot Flying J Post-Race Party.
Mobile medical support units manned by the Knoxville Fire Department will be positioned every couple of miles along the course. There will be a first aid area after the finish line. In addition, a therapy team provided by Covenant Therapy Centers will be available at the Pilot Flying J Post-Race Party. Post-race injury clinics Covenant Therapy Centers is proud to offer FREE post-race injury clinics! If you have aches and pains after the race, be sure and be checked out by a Covenant Therapy Center sports injury professional. Teams All runners have the ability to participate as a team and be eligible for special team awards and prizes. Note: There is also a 4-Person Relay. The marathon team competition is where each member of the team completes the entire course. You may have as many people as you’d like on your team. For special team awards, only the top three participants on your team will score – their times will be combined for a team time. (All participants are also timed individually and eligible for all individual awards and prizes.) There will be team categories for male only, female only, and co-ed teams. Teams can be any groups of people who want to add this designation (for free!) to their registration. Encourage others you know to join you in the race… coworkers, classmates, family, military, friends, etc. are all great ideas for teams. If you register as a team with coworkers, your team can also win the “Fittest Company” competition, determined by which company’s employees complete the most combined miles on race day. presented by Fresenius Kidney Care, spans two days: March 13 from 3 to 10 pm and March 14 from 10 am to 10 pm in Market Square in downtown Knoxville. This St. Patrick’s Day Festival is appropriate for the entire family! There will be balloon twisting, face painting, crafts, games, bouncy houses, inflatables, food trucks, Irish music and dancing, Irish culture and history, vendors, and other fun activities for kids of all ages. For those age 21 years or older, green beer and Guinness, Irish whiskey, and wine will be available for purchase (must show legal identification). Tickets will be on sale at the festival for children’s activities and games; cash and credit cards accepted. Tickets are $1 each, or get two tickets FREE when you purchase 12 tickets for $10. Midway games, balloon twisting, face painting, and other children’s activities will be available for one, two, three, or four tickets, depending on the attraction. The Lucky Kidney Run™ will take place on March 14 at 10 am and features 6K and 2K courses in Market Square. The 6K course is an out-and-back down Gay Street through the Historic 4th & Gill neighborhood. New Feature Exhibition at the Museum of East Tennessee History

NOXVILLE OCCUPIES a
unique place in the American South. Following the Civil War, residents felt it was one of the few racially tolerant cities in the region. Unlike most cities in the South, African Americans in Knoxville could vote, hold public office, serve as police officers, and sit on juries. Despite this, racial tensions still held the city captive, and life for black citizens was not the same as that for white citizens. Despite Jim Crow laws and segregation that dictated much of the interaction between black and white citizens, African American artists carved out a place for themselves in Knoxville. A new feature exhibition, Black & White: Knoxville in the Jim Crow Era at the Museum of East Tennessee History, explores what life was like for African Americans in Knoxville during the Jim Crow era. This exhibition, presented as a timeline, provides historical context to the lives of local African American artists Beauford Delaney, Joseph Delaney, and Ruth Cobb Brice. It seeks to answer what influence the city had on the early lives of these artists and whether they could succeed without leaving home. Brothers Beauford and Joseph Delaney were internationally known artists whose works are now part of some of the world’s most prestigious collections. The Delaneys were born in Knoxville in the aftermath of slavery and the Civil War. Their education was often informal and sporadic, as they attended one rural school after another while traveling with their circuit-riding preacher father. They grew up amidst racial segregation, witnessed the upheaval of Knoxville’s race riot in 1919, and were aware of the lynching of blacks throughout the South. They were part of the Great Migration, during which thousands of African Americans left the South looking for opportunities. Beauford and Joseph took different paths, yet their paintings reflect the world they 26

experienced, beginning with life in Knoxville. Ruth Cobb Brice was a Knoxville-born educator, writer, and artist contemporary with Beauford and Joseph Delaney. Like the Delaneys, Brice grew up amidst racial segregation. But unlike them, Brice worked from Knoxville. Even without the direct influence of large art centers, Brice’s paintings and poems gained national notoriety. About Black & White: Knoxville in the Jim Crow Era The Museum of East Tennessee History will feature Black & White: Knoxville in the Jim Crow Era on view now through June 14. The exhibition highlights three African American artists from Knoxville - Beauford Delaney, Joseph Delaney, and Ruth Cobb Brice - and how Knoxville during the Jim Crow era shaped their lives and careers. The exhibition includes 66 artifacts highlighting the history of race relations, African American art, and the development of an art community in Knoxville following the Civil War. Forty-five of these artifacts are on loan to the Museum of East Tennessee History from the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection, Beck Cultural Exchange Center, and private donors. The exhibition features several videos including Knoxville’s Red Summer: The Riot of 1919 and Beauford Delaney, both courtesy of East Tennessee PBS and Black Appalachia, and The Civil Rights Movement in Knoxville courtesy of the Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound. A variety of artworks by the highlighted artists are on display, as well as works from other Knoxville-based artists who influenced them. There is an assortment of artifacts reflecting the racial mentality of Knoxvillians following the Civil War. One case contains a variety of “Mammy” dolls, a stereotypical portrayal of African American women, and another case highlights African American
stereotypes as presented through local photographers the Knaffl Brothers. Other artifacts include items from the Appalachian Exposition of 1910 and a seat from the Gem Theatre, which opened in 1913 and was the South’s largest black theater. The East Tennessee Historical Society developed the exhibition with guest curator Robert J. Booker and research assistance provided by the staff of the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection, Knox County Public Library. We encourage patrons to view the exhibition in tandem with the Knoxville Museum of Art exhibition Through the Unusual Door (through May 7), which provides a groundbreaking look at Beauford Delaney and his creative exchange with writer James Baldwin. The Museum of East Tennessee History is open 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, 10 am to 4 pm Saturday, and 1 to 5 pm Sunday. Museum admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and FREE for children under 16. Each Sunday admission is FREE to all, and ETHS members always receive FREE admission. will fill the air in downtown Etowah, Tennessee, as the Etowah Arts Commission (EAC) presents the 26th annual Cousin Jake Tullock Memorial Bluegrass Festival on Saturday, March 7, at the historic Gem Theater, located Valley Grass Express Sierra Hull at 700 Tennessee Avenue. Local favorites Just Us serve as the host band to welcome Valley Grass Express and Sierra Hull & Justin Moses to the stage. A reunion set by Hiwassee Ridge will also take place. Join us on Friday night, March 6, for the annual John Studdard Memorial Bluegrass Gospel Concert featuring Just Us and Alan Bibey & Grasstowne. The Bluegrass Festival honors “Cousin Jake” Tullock, who grew up in Etowah and was a long-time member of Flatt and Scruggs renowned Foggy Mountain Boys during their heyday in the 1960s and 1970s. The Gospel Concert honors local educator, bluegrass musician, and founder of the Cousin Jake Bluegrass Festival, John Studdard. Justin Moses Grasstowne Friday evening’s Gospel Concert will begin at 7:30 pm, with the doors opening at 7 pm. On Saturday, the festival doors open at noon, with the show running from 1 to 7 pm. Across the street at the L&N Depot, you can bring your own musical instruments along so you can join the “Jammin’ at the Depot” from noon to 4 pm. Tickets for Friday’s Gospel Concert are $12 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Tickets for Saturday’s Bluegrass Festival are $18 for adults and $10 for children under 12. N THE HISTORY of Contemporary
Christian Music, one of the patriarchs of the genre is a man who played with some of its early trailblazers. That man is the worldrenowned guitarist, Phil Keaggy. Keaggy has been active in Christian music since his conversion in 1970, blowing people’s minds with his amazing guitar wizardry that has earned him much respect from within CCM and many accolades from outside the genre as well. In a recent extensive interview, Keaggy shared openly about his career in and out of the CCM industry, the challenges he and his wife had with suffering the pain of multiple miscarriages, his prolific production of work, both solo as well as collaboratively, and who he’s been able to meet and play with. About his solo work and how it’s “getting out there,” Keaggy shared: “I’ve been an Indie artist now for about 18 years, since the last record label I belonged to was Word Records. They let me go in 2002, and since then, everything I’ve been putting out has been just Indie. That means no marketing or distribution. Very little radio. But I keep working, because that’s my job, and I still do concerts because a number of people still like to hear me play and sing and do my songs. So the thing is, I keep creating, and I’ve been doing a lot of collaboration, especially during the last, I’ll say 10, 12 years with other writers and artists/musicians." Then, turning a little more serious, Keaggy shared some of his feelings about the CCM industry. “The industry has changed,” he said. “We don’t have CD stores like we used to. We don’t have record stores except for specialty shops, you could say, where you can find LPs. So when I do concerts, I make my music available to people at the concerts.” 30

In addition to his amazing catalog of work that is still growing, Keaggy has played with various names outside of CCM. He humbly talked about them when asked. “I’ll be 69 in March, and I’ve had great opportunities during my lifetime to play with people I really admire. Say, for instance, Tony Levin and Jerry Marotta. Those two guys - to be on the same album with guys that played with Peter Gabriel and McCartney and Lennon and all these all these amazing musicians and all these amazing artists. “I did get a chance to play at Linda McCartney sister’s wedding back in 1990. As a result of that, I had a chance to just sit down and play guitars with Paul McCartney for about 20 minutes. After which McCartney said, ‘You have a nice voice. Remind me a bit of James Taylor.’ I mean, he was a great influence on me from a melodic standpoint, a tonal standpoint, vocally. One of the great, great writers and artists of all time, of course, and it was an honor to meet him. It was kind of surreal, actually. “So anyway, that’s one of the stories I wouldn’t have ever presumed or assumed or imagined in my wildest dreams - that I’d be in
the studio with someone like McCartney or Clapton or any of those kinds of players that were influential. But I have played for Rick Derringer on one of his tracks and on Airborne Ranger with Mark Farner, the guitarist from Grand Funk. I have played on a few projects by other people. Greg Martin of the Kentucky Headhunters is a great guy. Great guitar player, fun guy.” Later in our conversation on some other subjects, Keaggy added, “I enjoyed meeting Mickey Dolenz. I played on six of his 12 songs on his album called Remember. I’ve been to his house out in California. We had a listening party with a lot of friends and artists that you would recognize that were there. One of my favorite solos I’ve ever done on anyone’s album was on his album - on the Nilsson song called Remember, the title song. Yeah, Mickey - he’s fun. A talented guy. For his age, the guy’s singing is still great.” With our chat wrapping up, the guitar meister said this of his life: “We all have a chance to leave a mark - leave something behind worth remembering. Those are the things that matter to me. You know, the fruit of the spirit stuff: Love and joy and peace. Southern Skies Music Festival, curated by hometown favorites The Dirty Guv’nahs, comes to World’s Fair Park in Knoxville on May 16. Ijams River Rescue Needs Volunteer Site Captains for Annual Cleanup March 28 IJ A M S
N A T U R E C E N T E R is looking for volunteer site captains for its 31st annual Ijams River Rescue scheduled for Saturday, March 28, from 10 am to 1 pm. “We need to add 30 additional site captains to be able to reach more areas,” said Lauren Bird, Ijams Education Administrative Coordinator. “Site captains are crucial because they keep each site running smoothly and help address any issues that arise.” A site captain’s duties range from checking in volunteers and going over safety procedures to handing out snacks and completing a brief cleanup report. There are one to two site captains at each location. These volunteers receive training prior to the event. Ijams River Rescue, now in its 31st year, draws between 600-800 volunteers annually and removes between 10-40 tons of trash from the river’s shorelines and its tributary creeks. “In 2019, about 700 volunteers removed 33 tons of garbage from 34 sites in Knox, Blount, Loudon, and Anderson counties,” said Bird. 38

UT Gardens Announces Art in the Gardens Project Collaboration with Local Artists Promotes Community Participation in Both Art and Gardening

in a row, the University of Tennessee Gardens, Knoxville, is proud to announce a new Art in the Gardens project for 2020. This year’s theme is “Dazzling Dogwoods: A Garden Art Exhibit,” and local artists are invited to decorate or embellish a pre-fabricated dogwood blossom silhouette for UT Gardens visitors to enjoy. Donated pieces will be auctioned in September 2020, with all proceeds benefiting the UT Gardens. “Our goals are to raise awareness and support of the UT Gardens,” said James Newburn, interim director. “This fun and whimsical project is a great combination of gardening and art.” Amateur or professional artists are invited to artistically interpret this year’s theme. Canvases, in the form of a primed plywood dogwood silhouette, will be provided to each artist. The dogwood forms are available in two sizes: 21 inches by 21 inches or 36 inches by 36 inches. When completed, works will be returned and installed in the UT Gardens. Artists and the general public are invited to an opening reception to view the Dazzling Dogwoods on June 5 as part of
Knoxville’s First Friday monthly celebration. Contributing artists are invited to share thoughts about their piece and inspiration during the opening reception as well. Those interested in participating should register online at tiny.utk.edu/dogwoods. Entry fees are $20 for a small dogwood form and $30 for a large or $45 for two dogwood forms, one in each size. Once registered, the artist will be contacted by UT Gardens staff to arrange for pickup and payment. Registration is now open and will continue until all silhouettes are sold. Forms may
be picked up after March 2, and completed works must be returned by May 4. you, but I think I am starting to mildew! I remind myself that we are at the edge of the Appalachian rainforest and this is normal, but I get awfully tired of the rain this time of year. I just try to be happy that it isn’t very cold. March is a tricky month. There will be at least one stretch of beautiful days that will try to convince you that spring is here. Don’t be fooled! Our average last frost is still early to mid-April. Planting too early will break your heart, because just as those baby plants get up and going, Mother Nature will freeze their little heads off. Patience, grasshopper! There are a lot of things that you can do this month, however. Let’s talk about those. » Finish up your plans for your yard. Go out and do your garden walk-around and finalize that to-do list. Check for problems and plan for improvements. Note what plants need to be moved, removed, divided,
pruned, or treated. Would you like to add features such as a bench, fountain, or birdbath? Have things changed so your plants aren’t thriving anymore? Remember to look up, down, and all around. If you need help, come in with some pictures and talk to us. » Our mild winter means that fungal spores and insects were NOT killed off, so make sure that any plant debris is removed. Getting rid of over-wintering hideouts will help decrease the severity of any disease and insect problems you are going to have. Let’s face it; we are going to have problems because of the mild climate, so it behooves you to try and stay on top of it. » Weeds were also not killed during the winter. There is currently a bumper crop of pop weed, henbit, and chickweed in my yard, and the green onions are everywhere! The ground is fairly soft from all the rain, so this is a good time to have a little dirt therapy. Take a trowel or ball weeder, a good pair of gloves (or leave them off and let those good microbes and

bacteria into your skin), and a kneeling cushion outside and take out all your frustration on the weeds! I’m not a huge fan of herbicides, but if you are going to use them, please follow instructions. Most have a temperature range on their effectiveness, so spraying at the wrong time is just a waste of money. It is also important that you not spray on a windy day unless you want to risk replacing plants that were caught in the overspray. » There are things that can be planted now, but you need to make sure that the ground isn’t soggy. Planting in mud is a sure way to kill everything, because the plants can’t breathe. Wait until things dry up, or plant containers. When the ground is workable, trees, shrubs, and cool season annuals and perennials can go in. » You can start warm season annual and vegetable seeds inside. Yes, by mid-month, you can plant your precious tomatoes and peppers! They need to stay inside, however. Cool-season greens, onion sets, beets, carrots, potatoes, and radishes can be seeded directly into the ground. Again, wait until the dirt is workable! What does that mean? If you grab a handful of it and smush it, it crumbles. It doesn’t turn into a ball. » I have had several calls about fertilizing. People want to know what to use and when to use it. The when depends on the what. If you are using an organic product, you can apply it just about any time because it isn’t strong enough to generate a growth flush. If you are using a chemical product, wait until the azaleas bloom. Here is my analogy: Organic fertilizers are like adding vitamins to your diet, but chemical fertilizers are like drinking an energy drink. The vitamins release slowly over time, adding nutrients to what is hopefully a good diet (that is the soil). A non-organic causes a burst of growth that is vulnerable to late season frosts and freezes. Whatever you use, read the directions! » I will finish by reminding you to take care of the birds and they will take care of you. Feed them a good quality bird food and they will help you keep insect problems at bay. It is also critical that you keep feeders clean and refilled, and keep baths clean and filled. You can also clean out birdhouses and get them ready for new families. We are getting shipments weekly, so stop in and check it out. EUPHORBIA,
often called spurge, belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family, a very diverse group of flowering plants with more than 2,100 species. The genus is represented all around the world and can vary dramatically in appearance, with some species having forms that look like small cacti and others that become large, long-lived trees. I n Te n n e sse e , seve ra l h e r b a c e o u s euphorbias are perennials. Historically, the milky latex often found in the stems of euphorbias has been used in traditional medicine to treat skin ulcers, warts, and intestinal parasites. However, protective gloves should be worn while handling spurge, as the latex can sometimes be an extreme irritant to the skin and eyes. Several species and cultivated varieties are listed below. These are available to gardeners and are valued for their year-round foliage color and unique flower interest. Varying climates across the state can affect durability, so be sure to check with the UT Gardens site in your region to see which specific varieties have performed well in your area. E. corollata is native to the United States and can be seen growing along our roadsides. This underutilized native is grown more for the baby’s breath-like blooms that start in late summer and continue into early fall. While not as cultivated as other species, the ‘Carolina Snow’ selection boasts showy blooms, proving why this tough native is worthy of a spot in the garden. Both E. amygdaloides and E. characias are native to Europe, and both species, as well as hybrids between the two, are largely responsible for the cultivars available today. E. x martinii ‘Ascot Rainbow’ is highly sought after and for good reason. This hybrid features variegated foliage in shades of greens and yellows, with new emerging foliage tinged with red hues. Foliage also has red and orange hues during fall and winter months. E. characias ‘Tasmanian Tiger’ is another popular cultivar, with green leaves and striking white variegation. When viewing from a distance, this cultivar almost looks completely white to silver. E. amygdaloides ‘Waleuphglo’, also sold as E. amygdaloides ‘Ruby Glow’, is a wonderful selection that has bright ruby red spring foliage that matures to a dark purple-black color and has a more compact habit than other cultivars. These ranges of color make euphorbia fun to pair with other annuals and perennials for striking color combinations. While these cultivars look wonderful during spring

and summer, their evergreen foliage is outstanding during dreary months. Flowers appear during late spring and into early summer with each stem topped by a thick, bottlebrush-like inflorescence. Bloom colors range from shades of yellows to greens and should be removed once spent to avoid reseeding. Their size typically ranges from one to three feet tall and wide, making these perfect to tuck into mixed borders, rock gardens, and containers. Spurge likes to be planted in full sun and in very well-drained soils. They will tolerate a little shade but tend to get leggy and look unkempt. Once established, they are fairly drought tolerant but appreciate moisture during the hot summer months. Along with being a fuss-free addition to the garden, they are also deer resistant. Big Ears Festival in Downtown Knoxville March 26-29

acclaimed Big Ears Festival is only a few weeks away, opening Thursday, March 26, and running through Sunday, March 29. Both the Bijou Theatre and Tennessee Theatre are proud to be some of the featured venues and look forward to hosting many of the festival’s most compelling performances. Lineup at the Bijou Theatre Led Zeppelin bassist and keyboard player John Paul Jones will offer two extremely rare performances during Big Ears. Always a musical adventurer, Jones’ post-Zeppelin work encompasses rock, opera, folk, bluegrass, and a number of forays into the avant-garde. On Friday, March 27, he’ll introduce audiences to his duo, Sons of Chipotle, with Finnish cellist Annsi Kartunnen. On March 28, he’ll perform a rare solo concert employing piano, mandolin, and electronics - an extended improvisatory reverie from one of the most iconic musicians of his generation. On Saturday, March 28, the enigmatic Annette Peacock will make a very rare live appearance at Big Ears. In the 1960s, Peacock made her mark with a songbook of mysterious jazz tunes; in the 1970s, David Bowie signed her to his new label. In the intervening decades, Peacock has continued making groundbreaking excursions into punk, new wave, and chamber music. The New York Times called her “the most remarkable - and mercurial - living singer and composer you’ve almost certainly never heard.” A pair of celebrated and groundbreaking young female composers will present new work at the Bijou. North Carolina-born singer, composer, and violinist Caroline Shaw - 2013 Pulitzer Prize and 2019 Grammy Award winner - will present a new collaboration with Sō Percussion on Saturday, March 28. Nathalie Joachim, a singer, composer, and flutist, offers her collaboration with the Spektral Quartet on Friday, March 27. They’ll showcase music from the Grammy-nominated album Femn d’Ayiti (Women of Haiti), a homage to Joachim’s Haitian heritage. HEN I WAS in the market
for a paddleboard, I noticed them wherever I went. When we were expecting our first child, we shared knowing glances with fellow parents to be. When we are passionate about something, that “something” naturally jumps out at us. For my husband John, one of his passions is floors. You may laugh, and sometimes I do too, but since we entered the deep-cleaning and restoration business 12 years ago, he notices floors. Every. Single. One. Theatre will present Junie B. Jones The Musical Jr., a delightful musical adaptation from four of the Junie B. Jones series of best-selling books by Barbara Park. This new version is witty and charming, with lyrics by Marcy Heisler and music by Zina Goldrich. The live musical will be performed March 1 at 3 pm, March 5 and 6 at 7 pm, March 7 at 1 and 5 pm, and March 8 at 3 and 7 pm. All shows are performed at Knoxville Children’s Theatre, located at 109 E. Churchwell Avenue in Knoxville. It’s Junie B.’s first day of first grade, where many changes are in store: Junie’s best friend, Lucille, has found new best friends, and Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. Also, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard, and her teacher, Mr. Scary, thinks she may need glasses. Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, an intense kickball tournament, and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,” and first grade has never been more exciting. Junie B. Jones The Musical Jr. is a heartwarming show that follows a tremendously loveable girl as she learns growing up is scary, but it’s also kind of fun. The play is performed by 21 talented young actors from ages 8 to 15. Cate Harper plays
Smith and Mateo Mejia portray Junie B.’s parents. The rest of the cast features Vivienne Bullard, Elizabeth Burnett, Maggie Clower, Lily Segars, Miley Jenkins, Leeland Robbins, Lydia Burchett, Caroline Simmons, Macon Sloan, Hattie Perry, Harper Miller, Emma Barkow, Chloe Felosi, Tanner White, and Addison White. The show is directed by Artistic Director Dennis E. Perkins, and musical direction is provided by Paul Jones of Auralation Studios and Deena Seals. Donya Walker is the choreographer. Ava Bradshaw provides the scenic design, with Diego Almeida as scenic assistant. Quinton Rhodes provides the lighting design, with Ally Summie as his assistant. KCT veteran Jaden Branson designed and built the costumes with assistance from Ja’Shonna Bryant and Millie Lovett. Knoxville to Host “Stand Beside Her” Tour Stop TENNESSEE
SOFTBALL will host the 2020 USA Softball Women’s National Team in an exhibition game on April 8 at 7 pm at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium as a part of Team USA’s “Stand Beside Her” Tour. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU. Fans will have an opportunity to see the Lady Vols take on Team USA as the Red, White, and Blue’s Olympic squad prepares for Tokyo 2020. Spectators will also have a chance to welcome back legendary Lady Vol Monica Abbott (2004-07), who holds the NCAA record in career strikeouts (2,440), innings pitched (1,448.0), victories (189), and starts (206). Abbott, who owns nearly every UT pitching record and is a four-time All-American and the 2007 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, will also make her second appearance at the Olympics this summer. “Ralph and I are extremely excited for the opportunity to host Team USA at Sherri 54

Smoky Mountain Opry Delivers High Energy, High Entertainment with 2020 Show Ninth Season Showcases New Show Elements, Returning Favorites

U N I Q U E entertainment experience of the Smoky Mountain Opry, which debuted for its ninth season at the end of last month, showcases elements of Broadway and the big screen and features singing and dancing talents that have a Vegas-combined-with-Nashville feel. The live variety show combines music and dance from every genre, taking guests on a nostalgic journey - from gospel and traditional & modern country to rock ‘n’ roll and favorite numbers from the movies. Elements in this year’s production include a thrilling opening sequence straight from the big screen, fancy footwork and vocals that will get toes tapping, and many more magical moments. After a trip to the movies, the audience will take a deep musical dive into the decades with hits from the great American jukebox. Songs from the 1960s through the hits of today will have the crowd ready to sing and dance. Gospel favorites will leave the
audience inspired and awed, while the finale pays tribute to America’s veterans and is a red, white, and blue patriotic salute. & Research for Knox Heritage, I get to do a number of interesting t a s k s t h at m a ke eve r y d ay something fun and different. One of my favorite things to do is research, particularly historic architecture and the people who designed, built, worked, and lived in these buildings. I get a lot of inquiries from many individuals who are interested in learning about the history of buildings. The nice thing is that someone doesn’t have to have a history degree to do this; it can be done by anyone at a local library. Knoxville is very fortunate to be home to the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection (not to be confused with the Frank H. McClung Museum, a wonderful museum on the campus of the University of Tennessee). The Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection is the local history and genealogy department of the Knox County Public Library and housed on the third floor of the East Tennessee History Center on Gay Street. The McClung is home to a large collection of regional history and historic documents, and it is a top notch genealogy research library. Some of its resources include newspapers, maps, manuscripts, government records, books, historic photographs, free access to web-based genealogical databases 56

- and that’s just the beginning. The McClung makes it easy for anyone to visit. It is open every day, but the times will differ depending on the day of the week. With helpful and friendly staff, fast service, and quiet corners to delve into a genealogy book or historic manuscript, anyone can find something to be excited about at the McClung. If you are starting to research your family’s genealogy or just have some spare time one day, plan a visit and take one of the free introductions to internet genealogy classes. Find out who lived in your house in 1925, or check out where your grandmother lived in the 1940 U.S. Census. Make a day of it, and while you’re downtown, have lunch on Market Square, shop for bulk candy at the Mast General Store, or see a show at the historic Tennessee Theatre. So many changes have been taking place in downtown Knoxville, and your research on local history at the McClung will most likely make you want to explore more of this historic area. For those wanting to explore the McClung online, they make it easy for you to look at historic images right from the comforts of your own home with its online digital collection. Spend hours hunting down historic images from Knoxville and East Tennessee. You can even purchase photos in a number of different ways. My favorite collection is the Thompson Photograph Collection taken by Knoxville’s
own professional photographer, Jim Thompson. This collection has an estimated 75,000 negatives, providing a visual legacy of Knoxville and East Tennessee from 1907 until 1960. Preservation printing of these negatives has been the major focus of the McClung Historical Collection for two decades. Jim Thompson and his younger brother, Robin Thompson (1895-1977), were business partners from 1920 to 1926 as Thompson Brothers. Both men were pioneer commercial photographers. By the late 1920s, Jim’s photographs (Jim Thompson Co.) and those of his brother (Robin Thompson, Inc.) were appearing in local and national commercial publications. baby boomer country music fan or are a younger music aficionado who knows great country music when you hear it, then you are, undoubtedly, more than aware of country legend Marty Stuart - whether it’s through his earliest work as a child musical prodigy with Lester Flatt’s The L-R - Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Nashville Grass (appearing with the Marty Stuart, Johnny Cash, and Roy Orbison band on Hee Haw at 14 years old) or as his work with Vassar Clements, Doc Watson, and Johnny Cash before launching his solo career. That career encompasses 18 solo albums, two live albums, a soundtrack album, a ton of compilation albums, and 33 singles. This earned him prominent screen time in Country Music, last year’s acclaimed PBS documentary by Ken Burns. He’s been a member of the Grand Ole Opry for 28 years and is a member and past president of the Country Music Foundation. The icing on the cake of his life is his lovely wife of 23 years, country star Connie Smith. Stuart recently added “author” to his list of achievements, with his book entitled The Pilgrim: A Wall-to-Wall Odyssey. It’s a phenomenal book inspired by his 1999 album, The Pilgrim, that is chock full of photos reflecting his career and his own amazing photographic work taken while on the road. To chat about the book, I contacted Stuart while he was on his tour bus, headed for a show at Chattanooga’s Walker Theatre. I asked Stuart to share what the book itself is all about. “Well, The Pilgrim, as far as who I am, I don’t know,” he said. “If you’re a mandolin player, I’m a mandolin player. I’m a guitar player. But I think what I have become without trying is just - I’ve lived long enough that I think I’m one of the touchstone figures of the culture of country music. I think I’m one of the go-to people for the world of authentic country music. I’ll buy that. I can back that up. And The Pilgrim was a record that happened in 1999, 20 years ago. That was a return after a long commercial voyage - an incredible run - back to the heart and soul, to the bedrock, the timeless place, to a timeless place in country music. Authenticity. As with every evolving artist reaching for his roots and his true self, the authentic self buried within, I suppose. There was a lot of heartbreak and disappointment when the record didn’t work. But, you know, the lesson in it for all of us is sometimes you have to wait around for things. So my friend Tom Allen said in this book, I think he said sometimes paintings don’t sell the first go around. Monet, whoever. So this is a painting that didn’t quite sell the first go around, but it comes back 20 years later. It teaches us all that authenticity and the real stuff that comes from the 58

heart usually finds its mark however long it takes.” I started my questioning with a comment as to how the book seems to reflect the depths of his heart and where he currently is in his life and asked if my perception was correct. “Absolutely, because it was, at the time, a bold move,” he said. “Part of the circumstances forced me to do it. But you know, when you keep getting away with something that keeps working, whether it’s right or wrong, you tend to go with it because it’s easy. And that kind of played out. And at the end of the ‘90s, I was kind of forced to either keep going and become a parody of myself or turn around and go back into my heart and remind myself who and what I really believed in and who I think I was set on earth to be. So that sounds like me, me, me, me, me, but that’s where I had to go at that moment. And so I think what Scott Romar said in the introduction in this book is absolutely true. There was kind of life before The Pilgrim in life after The Pilgrim.” Wrapping up our chat, I asked the country music legend how he wanted to be remembered and what he hopes his legacy will be. “Well, I think the truest thing I could say to you is that he finally found something that he believed in with all of his heart and then he followed his heart at any cost to get the job done without compromise,” said Stuart. “And I hope I could be true to that.” That he has, is, and will, no doubt, continue to be. New Exhibitions Opening at the Emporium Center on March 6 TH E

Alliance is pleased to present five new exhibitions at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from March 6-27. A free reception will take place on Friday, March 6, from 5 to 9 pm as part of First Friday activities downtown to which the public is invited to meet the artists and view the artwork. Victoria Phillips: A Place Within Artist statement: A Place Within was created from a state of contemplation and exploration. It is an extension of the processes and ideas of my previous works. In these paintings, I examine how each layer interacts with the next. There is a sense of sublime expression as I investigate the human condition. The frailties and hardships of humanity are reflected in the disruptive processes, as I reference the sublime spiritual aspects through the washes of pigments and the synergy found within the hues. Many of the paintings from this collection were created in Skopelos, Greece, while I was a resident artist at the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts. The mountainous landscapes paired with the endless ocean views created an atmosphere of divine inspiration. The beauty and simplicity of the island are reflected in the mystical landscapes in this collection as the disruptive qualities allude to the universal human condition. Through exploring the transcendental qualities found in my processes and metaphorical connections, I aim to delineate a sense of hope while providing an environment that is conducive for a visceral experience. Phillips graduated with a B.A. in Visual Arts and in 2013 from Lee University in Cleveland, TN. She earned her M.F.A. in Painting at Savannah College of Art and Design in 2019. She completed an artist in residency in Greece in 2019, giving her the opportunity to exhibit internationally. She resides in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a parttime Assistant Professor at Kennesaw State University and a full-time Visual Arts Educator. Gary Monroe and Denise StewartSanabria: Tableau Vivant Gary Monroe, who resides in Knoxville, has been exhibiting extensively throughout the U.S. since the early 1980s. Predominately a representational artist, he often includes non-representational elements in the work.
The subject matter tends to be subjects from his native state of Tennessee, such as Appalachian serpent handlers, moon-shiners, and, of course, Elvis Presley. Hi work is held in numerous private and museum collections. He was most currently exhibited in Appalachia Now! An Interdisciplinary Survey of Contemporary Art in Southern Appalachia at the newly renovated Asheville Art Museum. In this joint exhibit, he will provide work from three series: The Serpent Handler Group, The Velvis Group, and Comedy County Cocke. Denise Stewart-Sanabria was born in Massachusetts and received her BFA in Painting from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst. She has lived in Knoxville since 1986. Sanabria paints hyper-realist “portraits” of everything, from produce to subversive jelly donuts. She is also known for her life-sized charcoal portrait drawings on plywood, which are cut out, mounted on wood bases, and staged in conceptual installations. She is a recipient of the 2019 Tennessee Arts Commission Individual Artist Grant for her work on wood. Her work is included in various museums, private, and corporate collections. Smoky Mountain Maritime Modelers The artistic craft of ship modeling has been part of the building process to finish full size ships for hundreds of years. The Master Modelers of the Smoky Mountain Maritime Modelers will display a collection of museum quality wood ship models built from scratch and kits. All models start with blueprints and supplied wood that require hours of shaping, sanding, painting, and rigging, often taking months or even years to complete. The Master Modeler presenters at this show include Butch Alline, Dave Amstutzd, Bill Gass, Vic Kaminsky, Dennis Kimbrough, Larry Moore, Carl Whitten, and others, and their models vary from historic square riggers to modern ships. Jess Maples: Nurture Aperture With two showcases in Nashville and one in New York City, Jess Maples, born and raised in Knoxville, is bringing her one-of-a-kind exhibit to Knoxville for a homecoming event. The past three years, Maples collected various responses to the question “How do YOU let the light in?” and sought after the perfect photographs to match the answers. The title of each photograph is a direct answer that came
from her survey question. Nurture Aperture is Maples’ movement designed to teach the world self love. “I started this project to offer a few moments of reflection for guests,” she said. “This is more about an experience rather showing what I can do with a camera. With mental illness at an all-time high, it is easy for us to focus on the darkness in life. My desire is to show others the beauty of fostering the openings that let the light in – in nurturing their aperture.” Each piece is printed locally on recycled aluminum. All photos are shot with a Sony A7 and A7III. Only minor post processing in Adobe Lightroom is used. Bradley A. Wilder: Synchronicity Artist statement: There is a formulation of similar universal brain stimulus one obtains at birth that allows for specific functions in the way one perceives life and becomes a part of the global subconscious. I call this being in tune with the idea of free association - to connect images or words together within the mind that may have no apparent connection to one another, allowing an intrinsic understanding of archetypal imagery. I leave each viewer with their own innate familiarity with the signs conveyed in my images. The creation process and content is achieved organically, with equal accounts of order and randomness, exploring different mixed media methods of painting, including materials such as oil, acrylic, spray paint, and charcoal often used simultaneously or subjectively depending on the nature involving an individual piece. My work taps into the subconscious thoughts that are within each individual regarding their own outlook towards reality. Wilder received a B.F.A in painting from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky, in 2015 and is working on an M.F.A in painting from Savannah College of Art and Design. He has studied painting and drawing in France and China. Wilder has been in multiple group exhibitions throughout the country along with a solo exhibition in 2015 in Lexington. that can’t be achieved any other way. Unplugging from technology Sometimes it seems like technology and social media have taken over, especially for young people. Giving up technology for weeks may seem impossible, but the results are astonishing. A decrease in anxiety and an increase in happiness are noticeable in most campers when they unplug. In the ACA research, teens and children who unplugged reported learning how to live in the moment. They stopped worrying about the past or future, instead focusing on their present experiences. Putting down technology means learning to look other people in the eye. They develop better social skills while reading each other’s non-verbal cues, like facial expressions and body language. Face-to-face interaction is the only way to develop those skills. Lifelong friendships Kids at sleepaway camp bond with other campers in a deep, lasting way. TURN 70 this year and have now been
self-employed for more than half my life. Despite my more than three decades long experience as one of the nation’s 10+ million self-employeds, little has changed, at least as it relates to the opportunity for success. One thing that has changed, however, is my ability to pick a winner. While I don’t claim to possess a crystal ball, I have had the rare opportunity to observe firsthand many thousands of small businesses and their owners for 30+ years. I generally place business owners in one of two categories. The most successful are those with that unmistakable fire-in-theireyes passion for both their business and the future, whereas those who are most certain to fail are those who treat their business as a hobby or a casual venture. They are the ones who set some arbitrary date for success. “If I don’t achieve my goals by year’s end, I’m out of

friends in pursuit of success, but your success has to be an obsession for at least that portion of the time you have allocated to running your small business. If I were politically correct, I would substitute commitment for obsession. But no matter what word you prefer, nothing worthwhile will be achieved in any noteworthy fashion without that fire-in-your-eyes passion that each and every winner exhibits. So why am I so overly obsessed with sharing my point of view with so many self-employeds and would-be entrepreneurs? Simple, actually. My objective is to help you choose between success and failure and to avoid the emotional and financial costs that those in the last category are almost guaranteed to experience. I love having been self-employed for more than half my life. I hope you’ll be able to say the same thing yourself in the future. The choice is yours.

Botox and similar products share a common ingredient, botulinum toxin. These are toxins that block muscles from contracting. Doctors call these products neuromodulators. Sound scary? It isn’t. When used by experts like Dr. Doppelt and his staff, Botox has many cosmetic and medical applications. How does Botox work? By blocking these nerve impulses, Botox is able to keep certain muscles from tightening. This activity is what causes certain lines and wrinkles on the face, such as the lines between the eyebrows (also known as glabellar lines or “11s”). With continued use, these lines can be reduced dramatically from the face. What can Botox be used for medically? Botox has many medical indications - 14 in fact! Botox isn’t new to the treatment scene: It was first approved in the 1980s, according to information from the Cleveland Clinic. The first FDA-approved use for Botox was to treat conditions like uncontrolled blinking and lazy eye. It was soon used for cosmetic treatments, too. Botox is a diverse treatment that has been used for a variety of medical and cosmetic applications for more than 30 years. What can Botox be used for cosmetically? This is because Botox pricing is based on how many units are used. A unit of Botox might only cost $10 or $15. However, your total cost for Botox depends on how many units are needed to treat your specific concern. For example, treating lines on the forehead between the eyes might take 20 or 30 units. Smaller areas, like crow’s feet, require fewer units of Botox and will likely cost less. When you’re considering the cost of Botox, it’s important to be aware that you get what you pay for. It may be tempting to find the place with the lowest Botox cost, but extremely low prices actually aren’t a good sign. The Botox might be diluted if you are paying far below the average cost of treatments. Additionally, the person administering low-cost Botox might not have the skills and experience to give you the results you expect. This increases the risk of complication and serious damage to your skin and muscles. Will I still look natural after Botox injections? Botox looks very natural when administered by a skilled medical professional. When done correctly, you’ll look natural with fewer lines and wrinkles after treatment. How long does Botox last? For most patients, the results of Botox can last three to four months. Does Botox hurt? Botox is administered via an injection. Honestly, it might hurt a little. It is a needle after all.
