AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
T
he European Youth Parliament (EYP) is one of the largest pan-European platforms for raising awareness for European issues, intercultural dialogue and the promotion of active democratic citizenship among high school and university students in the 16-22 age group.
They develop political proposals and visions for a future Europe in international teamwork and discuss them in a plenary session in both English and French following a parliamentary procedure. The Forum provides the delegates with a possibility to actively engage themselves in the moulding of their future European society by discovering each other’s similarities and differences in culture and opinions and by building on their participation, negotiation and diplomacy skills. This is how democracy, intercultural teamwork, European ideas and international understanding are experienced though non-formal education. Odesa International Forum aims are: • Engaging Ukrainian youth in the discussions and debates on topical problems of their regions and also on shared Ukrainian and European issues, • Motivating young people from Ukraine to get into current European ecological issues; • Enabling Ukrainian youth to share new approaches to regional and European issues on ecology; • Confronting students with a democratic decision making process with all its challenges and advantages and to thereby contribute to active democratic citizenship development; • Providing Ukrainian youth with the experience of research, debate and process of democratic decision and policy making for regional, national and international political issues; • Contributing to the students’ personal development such as English language skills and the ability to work in an international team with foreign EYP-members chairing the committees; • Promoting and enabling inter-cultural dialogue such as getting to know others, developing a feeling for the diversity of cultures and opinions in Europe, respecting these differences and learning how to tolerate with different cultures; • Raising awareness and knowledge among Ukrainian and European youth of such an important and up-to-date issue as alarming state of ecology, which endangers national security of each country. We believe that youths in Ukrainian regions have fewer opportunities to get involved in the activities of international NGOs in general and the European Youth Parliament in particular, but what is even more important – to get a chance to debate and voice their own opinion regarding urgent domestic and international issues.

Teambuilding Teambuilding in the context of the European Youth Parliament means communication training focused on group dynamics. Delegates will get to know each other through a series of group dynamic exercises and problem solving tasks, which will help forming a team. Teambuilding helps to overcome language barrier and establish strong communication skills in order to become one solid team. Experienced EYP officials are previously trained for teambuilding. Activities can be both outdoor and indoor. Teambuilding contributes to fruitful communication and cooperation, and is an essential stage before committee work. Opening Ceremony The Opening Ceremony will officially mark the start of the academic part of the session. Opening Ceremony is planned to be held in the Odesa City Council. Committee work During committee work delegates will have many controversial discussions on current issues of European politics. They will have to find different, new and innovative solutions, try their best to employ different cultural backgrounds and acquired experiences. The goal of Committee Work will be a strong and meaningful resolution that will be discussed at the General Assembly. General Assembly The General Assembly reunites all the participants of the Odesa International Forum to consider the results of the committee work. Each committee presents and defends their motion for a resolution, which is debated upon for approximately one hour by the Assembly. A voting procedure takes place at the end of each event. The vote is based solely on the personal conscience of each delegate. Those resolutions which are passed are subsequently presented to the national and international governing bodies. While it is true that the European Parliament has gone on to discuss issues brought up by EYP resolutions, the main aim of EYP is not to exert political influence but to enable the participants to experience democratic decision making. Generally Assembly is planned to be held in the Odesa City Council. Evening Activities The participants of the Odesa International Forum will take part in various interesting activities. And those activities will not only mean hard work! To reward the participants for their achievements and fruitful cooperation, organising team will offer a number of fun evening activities. Besides entertaining and relaxing events, participants will have a chance to take part in formal ones, which are an essential part of the Odesa International Forum and are presented in the next subchapter. Eurovillage The idea of the Eurovillage event is for all the delegations from different countries to put together their own stall to present local products and culture. The presentation tables usually include a variety of local food and drinks, brochures, small gifts and other national symbols. Quite often the delegation even wears their respective national costumes to make the event a colourful celebration of the different nations of Europe. Country Presentation Evening The Country Presentation Evening will provide each delegation with a chance to showcase their national culture and customs through song, dance or other performances. Each country will have no more than five minutes for this performance, which all together comprise a magnificent showcase of differences and similarities the over 15 nations of Europe.
