EVOKE - DECOMPOSITION

That which has aged, decayed, and been weathered and forgotten has always held my attention as a photographer. What draws me to the rot? Not knowing the answer to that question motivates further work, a closer look, a new angle. Everyday things are always changing, adapting, and following nature’s intention towards death. Everything we touch and see is aging and therefore in some state of decay. When applied to my own life, these concepts offer inspiration - the grace I witness in the decay of a flower, for example. I strive to emulate in my own life what I perceive in nature. To be able to recognize beauty in all stages of life. Key words: grace and trust.

Applied to art, when pondering decomposition, I think immediately of composition. What happens when we begin to decompose artistically what we generally put so much effort into creating? So often less is truly more. Adria Ellis

Adria’s formal photographic education began in 1990 at Parsons School of Design in Paris. In 1997 she graduated from Brooks institute of photography with honors in commercial photography and illustration. Following school Adria moved to New York City working on the production side of things and focused on travel photography. Most recently she has focused on portraits, and yoga photography. In 2011 the iphone began to take the place of all other camera’s for Adria. The work you see here has all been captured and manipulated on an iPhone or iPad. ” The introduction of the iPhone and the limitless possibilities presented by thousands of photographic applications has changed my creative expression more than any one thing in my life. My creative energy and drive is stronger than I can keep up with. The ease, accessibility, and enjoyment has connected me to a depth of creativity that I have never experienced. I hope you enjoy what you have seen, and look forward to sharing much much more.”

Jo sÊ L u is L opez M oral I often tend to ask for cracks and textures in my photography. Only I fail to think about summer afternoons during my childhood through La Mancha. My parents were busy whitewashing the walls followed by layering on what has been whitewashed. As sediments from my own memory, these textures have been setting me, to leave a faint residue of memory of lived experience. I am an artist who comes from the world of painting, a painting full of stuff and influenced by the expressionist tendencies of 80. With the entry of the new millennium decide to make a cut in my way of understanding art and give a 180 degrees . To throw myself into new technologies. It is the opportunity to experiment with digital photography as if it were paint. It is at this point that I begin to approach the landscape with a more classical point of view, now come to mind Friedrich, Constable, Turner and etc. Pioneers of photography. It is when the job hunter portrait painter of landscapes or landscapes really begins. Fled to the conventions of landscape photography of XXI century and beginning a search for the essence in photographs I take, these become a mental rest and a confluence of ideas of a landscape that does not exist. I approach my work more poetic image concept and try to rescue from oblivion the landscapes of suburban living in our capitals. It is in this environment where my best work develops. With the arrival of the first decade of the millennium I see as the established structures of art have changed. At the speed that today circulates image easily be interconnected with artists from any latitude in real time. That was the moment I decided to take a leap to the network. As a new model of representation of the artist, with the creation of Blogs, social networking presence only in the arts and creating a world that circulates around my work. I start work with mobile devices for imaging, you can see in real time in Australia so I’m making breakfast time, this returns me a constant feedback about my work. The result of these experiences have been several solo exhibitions to which I have been invited, including the first virtual museum mobile photography (www.neweramuseum.org), exhibitions and including my work and my profile on portals prestigious Art on the Internet.

C aro lin e M acM oran Caroline MacMoran has had a life-long love of art and creativity, but has only over the past several years had the courage to put it out into the world. Initially educated as a psychiatric nurse, and then as a family therapist, it wasn’t until Caroline’s psychology practice was firmly rooted that her desire to publicly express herself as an artist took hold. Drawn to the multi-layered photographic image for it’s ability to reveal personal truths, Caroline hopes that her images will also “speak” to others. Caroline lives in Philadelphia with her partner and 12 year old son, and continues to maintain a psychotherapy practice.

K imb erly Post Kimberly Post lives outside of Portland, Maine, with her two teenagers and their feline companion. Her art embraces the natural world and she likes to closely observe flora and fauna in all stages of living and dying. She’s been a part of the mobile photo/iphoneography community since its inception and is the first to attest that iOS devices have completely changed the way she approaches her art. In her free time, Kimberly writes, makes music, plays in the great outdoors, and releases sporadic guided meditation recordings. The rest of her time is spent trying to make a difference in higher education and teaching/practicing yoga. Kimberly is represented by Vox Photographs. Artist Statement The title of my most recent work is taken from the words of Vietnamese Buddhist monk, poet, and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay), who says that deep looking is a form of meditation. He teaches that by looking deeply, we develop insight into the Buddhist concept of impermanence. “The practice and understanding of impermanence is not just another description of reality. It is a tool that helps us in our transformation, healing and emancipation. Impermanence means that everything changes and nothing remains the same in any consecutive moment. And although things change every moment, they still cannot be accurately described as the same or as different from what they were a moment ago. We are often sad and suffer a lot when things change, but change and impermanence have a positive side. Thanks to impermanence, everything is possible. Life itself is possible. If a grain of corn is not impermanent, it can never be transformed into a stalk of corn. If the stalk were not impermanent, it could never provide us with the ear of corn we eat... When we can see the miracle of impermanence, our sadness and suffering will pass. As a meditation, this series goes beyond the concept of still life studies for me. By looking deeply at each leaf, blossom, stalk, or pod, I am noticing how they are each representations of all the stages of life, whether they are still blooming or withering and dying. I often keep them for weeks to more fully appreciate the impermanence Thay speaks of. Each change is beautiful in its own way, and through observing this ongoing change, I hope to more appreciate the steady and merciless march of time on my own body, mind, and spirit.
