Living in a Country Town Research has found out that Australian people living in small towns of less than 30,000 people tend to be happier than their peers living in the larger Australian cities. This is according to the Wellbeing Index that was developed by the Australian Center of quality of Life at the University of Deakin. People living in large cities may enjoy high salaries, better education standards, access to more jobs and high social life but when it comes to happiness, their counterparts in small country towns score highly. Close Communities There are various reasons why people living in small country towns are happier than those living in large cities. One of the main reasons for less happiness in people living in large cities is the sheer lack of a strong community base. Yes, in small country towns, communities living in country homes like the Evoke Living Homes tend to have a strong community focused base. People living in country homes, especially those homes that are most commonly found in small country towns I.E. those built by
Evoke Living Homes, usually have much more regular contact with their families and friends unlike their counterparts from large cities. People living in large cities are more likely to experience a certain kind of social isolation compared to the people living in small country towns. Studies suggest that social isolation can bring about feelings of fear and aggression, reasons why more crimes are usually committed in the larger cities than in small country towns. Social isolation is also said to be a major cause of feelings of unhappiness and anxiety to some large city dwellers. In a small country town setup, though, people tend to be close to each other as there is more of a communal kind of relationship. People living in large cities come from diverse backgrounds and in most instances; they are usually not even conversant with each other. This is something that makes the level of trust amongst the residents remain low compared to that of the people living in small country towns. More Affordable Luxuries Owning country homes that feature amazing amenities such as swimming pool, larger lawns, and car park, etc is easier and more
affordable in small country towns. In large cities, there is usually more pressure on housing due to the high number of people competing for a living space within the same area. In the small country towns, the atmosphere is usually calm and less polluted compared to the atmosphere of large cities that are often very polluted. In large cities, there are lots of cars, air traffic, lots of industries all of which cause massive air pollution. This is something that is less of a problem in the smaller country towns which usually have one or two industries nearby. Overall, apart from the many employment opportunities that are typical of large cities, it seems there are more benefits to living in small country towns. Life in small country towns remains affordable and better overall compared to living in large cities.
