At Jason Wu, the red lipstick trend took inspiration from pop art in the form a pinkish-red matte hue. At Yves Saint Laurent, lips were covered in a crimson lipstick with a slightly metallic finish. Temperly London, created a high-gloss, cherry red lip that really popped against a subtle canvas of minimal facial make-up. At Donna Karan, the traditional red lipstick was replaced by a velvety chocolate red shade. This color is new and unexpected, and we will be seeing more of it coming up this fall and winter. Rick Owen’s known for a rebellious spirit, was quite subdued and vintage-inspired when it came to the make up for the collection. Bold Brows: Dramatic, defined, and fluffed up brows, frame many new faces Bold eyebrows are a trend that come and go. This trend, made popular in the 1960’s by Elizabeth Taylor makes a statement in a major way. There are times when an androgynous trend requires face framing dramatic brows, and this is one such season. Derek Lam, Jil Sander, Altuzarra, and Burberry Prorsum are all designers that utilized this retro trend and made it their own. At Derek Lam, models’ brows were darkened with pigment and filled in, for a thicker, more rugged look. Eyebrows were pushed up and slightly unkempt at Jil Sander. At Altuzzara, Elizabeth Taylor was his true inspiration for his thickened, and darkened brows. At Burberry Prorsum, brows were brushed up, but were kept natural. Which provided a bold, yet soft look when paired with simple make up and soft curls. Bold brows can be achieved by using pigment, an eyebrow brush, and gel. If you just want to darken your
Every woman wants lashes that are full, separated, and long. The spring 2012 runway collections featured lashes that were full, never ending, and reminiscent of doll’s lashes. Designers such as Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Ruffian, and Victor & Rolf, worked lashes in different and stunning ways. This trend will be sought by every woman because the look is entirely lady-like and entirely eyecatching. At Louis Vuitton, lashes were jet black, and unimaginably full. These lashes were slightly curled and eyegrazing, which created a sexy look. Marc Jacobs took inspiration from the Jazz era with winged lashes that curled slightly downward. At Ruffian, lashes were kept simple, but were separated and fanned up in an chic, modern way. Victor & Rolf pumped up the volume with fuchsia lashes, that brought much needed color to the face. False lashes and plenty of mascara are staples required to recreate these looks. With this trend the longer, and thicker the falsies, the better. You want to be able to see thicker lashes from far away, because it makes the look that much more powerful. To bring even more attention to your eyes, keep your blush and lip color simple. Too much make up competition will lessen the impact of the lashy look.
