Dear Friend, Each week when I pick up my CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), I ooh and ahh as Doug Doering, the farmer, digs through the insulated bag telling me what we have this week. Red and purple beets. Dripping sweet heirloom tomatoes. Huge bulbous onions. A small bag of snap beans. A container of tiny blueberries. Two odd-looking green balls he tells me are Kohlrabi. My mouth waters as I mentally prepare my week’s Shopping at the farmer’s market. menu. I am passionate about food. Eating well is a priority in my life and, because I love to cook, a big part of my time is spent either reading about foods/recipes, shopping for food, prepping and cooking food, and of course, eating. And since there’s just myself at home, I freeze a lot of leftovers. But eating well can be pricey. I found myself shopping every fiveto-seven days at the local health food store and spending about $100 each visit. So this year I came up with a plan. Because my goal is not only to eat well but to also eat local, affordable, and in-season as much as possible, I decided to put the desire into action. I began buying bulk bundles of meat from a butcher who sells local meats (I use Steve’s Meat Market (www.stevesmeat.com) in DeSoto, KS, but you can research and find others in KC). For $99-$149, depending on whether I choose the monthly-special bundle or the economy bundle, I get enough meat to last more than a month. While I’m at the market picking up my meat bundle, I load up on local free-range eggs and some cheese, as well. Then I joined a CSA. For $16, I receive a bounty of 6-8 items per week. I chose Stranger Creek Heritage Farm (www.strangercreekfarm.com) because they grow all of the fruits and vegetables on their farm without synthetic chemicals, free of GMO's, and Certified Naturally Grown (CNG). Plus, the pickup location is at the Merriam Farmer’s Market, which is convenient for me. While I’m at the farmer’s market, I can also pick up anything else I might need from other farmers. Kansas City Food Circle has a great map of member farmers who offer CSAs on their website. Visit http://kcfoodcircle.org and click on the box that says, “CSAs.” It will take you to a map that shows pickup locations for all the farmers. Between these two services, I have all the fruits, vegetables, meats, cheese, and eggs I need for the month and pay about $200 (instead of the usual $400-500 I was spending per month at the grocery store). Because I’m eating primal lately, avoiding most grains, all I need to buy at the grocery store is usually milk, coffee, and any pantry items. I frequently hear that eating well is too expensive. And for a long time, I thought so, too. But if you take some time to plan ahead and find local vendors, you too can eat local, whole, organic foods at a very reasonable price. I hope you enjoy this special issue on Eating Well in Kansas City. Bon Appetite!

David Russell, Spiritualist Medium,Visits Third Annual Midwest Tea Festival Expands to Two Days Kansas City for Two Events David Russell is a Spiritualist Medium who is from, and still resides in, Sheffield, England. David is clairvoyant, clairsentient, and clairaudient, which means that he sees, feels, and hears Spirit. As ‘the middle man’ for Spirit, his messages have astounded and comforted thousands. David teaches mediumship workshops and does both private and group readings. He has taught workshops throughout England, Switzerland, and America. David has been a guest on internet radio shows as well as being featured as a guest medium on television. David was a child when he first became aware of his abilities. His early experiences of being aware of the spirit world included seeing shapes, hearing footsteps, and sensing others around him. These experiences continued throughout his adolescence and that’s when he decided he wanted answers to these things he was feeling, hearing, and seeing. He started to attend Spiritualist churches which are churches that not only acknowledge mediumship but they practice it too, as part of the service. In 1988, David started attending open circles, awareness circles, and development circles, offered by the

churches, so he could practice and develop his abilities. He also received training at Arthur Findlay College in England, college of Spiritualism and psychic sciences. In March of 2000, David began his professional career as a medium. He began leading open circles, development groups, and leading Spiritualist Church services across England and continues to do so to this day along with giving private and group readings. David’s biggest passion is offering workshops to people who are interested in developing their abilities to connect with the Spirit world. He loves to see the realization of the truth in his students when they realize that they are a part of God and we are all connected through God consciousness. America holds a special place in David’s heart and has since he was a kid. He’s taught in various states throughout America and hopes to move here one day. He will be at Unity Temple on September 17th for the Evolving festival, offering readings and giving a one hour demonstration. David will also be offering a mediumship workshop, in Lenexa, KS on September 23rd and 24th.

The Midwest Tea Festival is a yearly event dedicated to building the specialty tea community in the Midwest region, adding this niche market to our many other notable culinary delights. This event also helps other communities within the Kansas City region by donating proceeds from raffles and a percentage of admission sales to a different local charity each year. This event is designed for the novice tea aficionado as well as the expert. There are free informative presentations by national and local experts about all facets of tea, including health benefits, history, tea cultures around the world, growing tea, and afternoon tea parties. Free tea tastings are provided all day long and swag bags with samples and coupons are given out to the first 1000 to purchase a ticket. For those who desire a more in-depth exploration of topics such as food and tea pairing, health benefits of tea, introductions to the types of tea and the cultures that produce it, how to taste tea and how to evaluate teas. These workshops carry a small additional fee but will also be intensive with small group sizes and participants will taste foods paired with teas, rare teas not offered elsewhere at the festival, go home with samples or tea blends they have created in the session. This year we are proud to be able to include a two-hour Tea Sommelier: Introduction workshop. This is a certificate earning workshop taught by the 2017 World Tea Expo Educator of the Year, James Norwood Pratt. “Everyone who has ever enjoyed a cup of tea for pleasure or health will find

something to interest them at this festival,” said Nicole Burriss, tea enthusiast and founder of the Midwest Tea Festival. “And if you haven’t been able to find a tea you like but want to start making tea a part of your daily routine, this is the place to discover it!” Taste All The Teas, LLC is the organization behind the festival. The goal of Taste All The Teas, LLC is to grow yearly regional tea festivals in the Midwest region so that our many fine tea merchants and other related companies receive the recognition they deserve as our tea community grows in size and strength. Taste All The Teas, LLC is owned by Kansas City area native, Nicole Burriss, but the Festival is run solely on volunteer power with no one involved receiving a salary. 2017 marks the third year for the Midwest Tea Festival in Kansas City and 2018 will bring an expansion to Chicago as well. This year’s event festival will be held September 9-10 at the Ararat Shrine Temple’s Bennet Auditorium. Visit www.midwestteafest.com for more details and to stay up-to-date on smaller events throughout the year.

Treating Inflammatory Skin Conditions at the Root Cause B N R , M.D.

S

kin conditions difficult to treat and resolve are rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis; the common thread is inflammation that is more than skin deep! These skin conditions can be treated by finding the root causes for each individual; be patient, as finding the different causes can take some time. Changes in diet, lifestyle, cleansing the liver, decreasing stress, and adding nutrient support are all potential treatments. What you put on your skin, and what you clean your home and clothing with, all can impact the skin. Genetics and the environment also play a role in inflammatory skin conditions. The following are areas to address: 1. Food allergies and food sensitivities are common and can be addressed by a food elimination diet, blood and/or skin testing, or acupuncture techniques such as NAET. 2. Evaluation of intestinal health by assessing digestion and acid production, H. pylori infections, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, and parasites. 3. Adequate intake of essential fatty acids and their proper balance is important. Omega-6 fatty acids have a role in the structural barrier and barrier function of the skin. Some people respond better to omega-6 fatty acids like linoleic from sunflower, flax, or evening primrose oil, while others may respond better to omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil, fatty fishes, shell fish, and nuts (walnuts, pecans, and cashews). Grass-fed beef and chicken eggs from chicken who ingest omega-3 oils have omega-3 fatty acids. Vegetables that contribute omega-3s to the diet are Brussels sprouts, kale, broccoli, spinach, watercress, parsley, and mint. 4. Nutritional needs of healing skin need to be supported during any treatment process. For example, Vitamin C is necessary for the development of collagen and skin tissue. The mineral zinc is antimicrobial and antioxidant, supporting the immune system within the skin, controlling inflammation and regulating cell production and turnover. Repletion of nutrient deficiencies of these nutrients plus Vitamins A, E and D are very important for skin health. 5. The use of supplements, which calm and support healthy normalized

inflammation and immune responses. Turmeric or curcumin, as well as quercetin, may be helpful. 6. Ongoing detoxification of the colon and liver support are necessary to decrease toxin load and create optimal metabolism. 7. Changing to all-natural hair, skin, and household cleaning products to reduce chemical irritants. 8. Improving the diet by eliminating the most inflammatory foods such as high fructose corn syrup, sugar, refined and processed foods, hydrogenated or trans fats found in french fries, potato chips, crackers, cookies, pies, breads, margarine, as well as artificial sweeteners, food additives, and alcohol. 9. Reducing stress and hormone balancing. An example of one woman’s journey to resolving her psoriasis skin condition of her scalp consisted of the following steps: 1. Changed her shampoo and hair products to all-natural and also her household cleaning products. 2. Began an anti-inflammatory diet with emphasis on three servings of wild -caught salmon, sardines, or mackerel per week, cooked and raw greens every day in addition to her usual five servings of vegetables, a 1/4 cup of nuts or seeds daily, using only olive or walnut oil for cooking and salads, and eliminating sugar. 3. Get regular sleep at least eight hours a night. 4. Undertook a 28-day colon and liver detox. 5. Digestive enzymes and betaine HCL supplements in addition to zinc and vitamin D. Changing inflammatory skin conditions can take weeks and months of good eating and taking supplements and striving to get to the root of the problem. Work with a functional or integrative medical practitioner to be a guide and mentor.

3 Steps to Fuel Your Body for Optimal Health B A W R

I

Y

NGELA

ATSON

FOCUS ON:

OBERTSON

’m known as The Reinvention Warrior as I’ve reinvented my life more times than I can count. I’ve recreated myself in health, career, relationships, and spiritual life, yet, I’ve learned that in order to reinvent any area of your life, it’s best to start with your nutrition. It’s extremely important to fuel your body (and thus your transformation) with the right food for you. As a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Life Reinvention Expert, I fight for my clients to create their best life. I believe that in this day and age, if you don’t reinvent yourself, you may never find balance, peace, and the sustainable life that is your birthright. So, if reinventing your health is the first step, where do you start? Here are three ways to reinvent your nutrition today: 1. Drink a healthy, nutrient-dense smoothie every day. An important component of health is to maintain blood sugar balance. Yet, in our modern world, it can be difficult to eat as much and as often as our body needs so we don’t crash. That’s where smoothies come in. By blending lots of protein, fiber, and other nutrients, you support your body to feel full and balanced for several hours. Plus, smoothies are easily digested as the blender has done the work for your body. If you have any hiccups with your digestion, this is a huge perk. Smoothies can be a great source of protein, superfoods, fats, and fiber, but not all smoothie recipes are the same. Going to your local smoothie shop may not be healthy—you have to look at what’s inside. This is why I recommend making your smoothies at home. You can control the ingredients, and you know that you’re getting a high-quality, lowglycemic (low sugar) drink filled with organic, whole fruits, vegetables, and greens. I make a large smoothie (16 oz at least, usually) each day around midmorning and I’m often not hungry again until late afternoon. 2. Drink fresh celery juice each morning. I recently discovered the powerful impacts of drinking fresh celery juice each morning on an empty stomach and my gut is healthier than it’s ever been. After drinking the celery juice each morning on an empty stomach for five

days I saw a big difference in how I felt and many of my symptoms (gas, bloating, discomfort) lessened or were completely gone. Now I’m hooked and this daily celery juice ritual is a key part of my wellness plan. 3. Try an anti-inflammatory diet. According to Dr. Andrew Weil, “It is becoming increasingly clear that chronic inflammation is the root cause of many serious illnesses including heart disease, many cancers, and Alzheimer’s disease.” I couldn’t agree more and find that many of my clients with health challenges have one thing in common–inflammation. Introducing an anti-inflammatory approach to your way of eating is a step in the right direction. Here are some general antiinflammatory diet tips: 1. Aim for variety. 2. Include as much fresh food as possible. 3. Minimize your consumption of processed foods and fast food. 4. Eat an abundance of fruits and vegetables. A note about going Grain-Free or Paleo: An anti-inflammatory diet is a great start and may be all you need to do for your body to achieve optimal health. If you’re like me, you may need to go a step further and try a grain-free or Paleo approach to eating. Each of the steps above are baby steps, yet big changes, toward a better diet and reinventing your nutrition. Take each step one at a time and incorporate them into your life in a way that works for you. Remember that you know what is best for your health and your life and it’s not a race. Yet, if you’re ready to feel better, these steps will start you down the right path. Mindful Eating—What Am I Truly Hungry For?

M

indful Eating—What Am I Truly Food is so essential in our lives. It provides nutrition and sustenance. Yet, often times, food becomes our biggest demise, and in some cases, an addiction whether having to do with overeating or undereating. Why is it so? Why do so many of us use food to create a barrier between our inner Selves and outer selves? Why do we use food to block our deep-seated feelings and to numb ourselves from what is occurring in the present moment? The concept of mindful eating attempts to address these and other questions with regards to the relationship we have with food. Mindful eating is about us making a conscious choice before and during the process of eating. Rather than being driven by cravings or emotions, mindful eaters are consciously selecting every ingredient and every bite. Mindful eaters are very much in tune with their bodies and eat only when hungry, stopping long before feeling full. One of the groundbreaking exercises to do to embark on the journey of mindful eating is to ask yourself, “What am I truly hungry for?” Be vigilant and listen, listen very carefully. The answers that emerge might surprise you, they might even take you aback. More often than not, the reason has nothing to do with true, physical, hunger for food, but rather, it has to do with an attempt to fill in an inner void. That inner void has to do with attitudes acquired earlier in life of which we are unconscious of. In my case, it was a sense of deep loneliness. This was an inner loneliness. I was living a very full life, surrounded by many wonderful people, and yet underneath it all, I was feeling disconnected and quite lonely. As I started journaling about it, what emerged was that I felt very much connected outwardly, with others, and not so much with my inner Self. Given this discovery, I started paying more attention to my inner voice, spending more time with myself, and responding with love to the inner dialogue of feeling lonely and left-out. As I started doing so, my urges to eat diminished. I was feeding myself from the inside out and the cravings for

physical nutrition subsided. Once I understood my past motivation for eating, I was able to t ransform it. We cannot change what we are not aware of. Remember that this journey of selfdiscovery is a process. It takes time. In the era of instant gratification we tend to want to hurry up through anything uncomfortable. We choose to mask the discomfort with food or other means. You must be patient and you must awaken your desire to know why you are behaving in the ways that you currently are. As in my personal case, journaling helped me tremendously to extrapolate my own thoughts. The inner dialogue revealed through writing our thoughts down affords depth of understanding. Once we start being curious about our eating habits we can then cultivate other productive ways of relating to food. Curiosity and wonder are the key. Too often we might automatically revert to shame or self-punishing behaviors. The process of unraveling our relationship with food is meant to help us to recognize the motivation behind us reaching out for food. We need to be able to distinguish whether we are truly hungry and need to nourish our body, or whether we are using food to cope with life’s situations. Another simple way to help ourselves be mindful when it comes to food is to take a picture of everything we eat. This small interruption in our habitual process of being will add a pause, which in turn will create space for us to become more aware of what we are eating and why. To take this practice to the next level is to keep a food journal. How we handle our emotions has a lot to do with how we relate to food. Most of us are not taught about acknowledging our feelings and the emotional energy that comes with them. Slightest sensation of emotional current awakens discomfort. Because we are unfamiliar with our emotional states we want to maintain the status quo by turning into food to disguise these emotional currents and to distract ourselves from what is happening within us in the present moment. Such behavior perpetuates dependency on food. We build habitual ways of being and instead

of responding to the emotions, we cover them up with food. What is needed instead is to lean into whatever is coming up for us emotionally, allow ourselves to feel it completely and become one with it. What we will discover is that the discomfort eases very quickly (as quickly as ten seconds) and emotions leave our bodies instead of lingering within us and accumulating unprocessed energy. It is very human to experience all sorts of emotions: sadness, shock, excitement, fear, anger. Our society teaches us that to feel is weak. To the contrary of this societal belief, to be fully present with your emotions requires courage and strength. As we move our intention towards processing our emotional states, the need to binge or to avoid food gradually subsides. Addressing some of our physical cravings might be done by selecting quality nutrition and supplementation. In recent years a variety of initiatives have emerged to strengthen the nutritional value within the foods produced today. An example might be the Non-GMO Project. For more information visit https:// www.nongmoproject.org/. Choosing to eat high quality nutrition, such as organic produce, is one of the ways to enhance the quality of the foods we consume. Choosing to eat more unprocessed foods like fresh fruits and vegetables is another. Because our soil no longer contains all the necessary minerals, in my experience, mindful supplementation is vital at this point as well.

In this day and era, with most of us leading sedentary lifestyle, it is so important to move, to exercise, our bodies. Our bodies need to move in order to fully digest and absorb our food. We need to move our body to allow for certain processes within our bodies to take place like movement of the lymphatic fluid, oxygenation of the blood, and generation of endorphins, among others. Mindful eating can become very much a part of our spiritual practice and it can help us to heal and transcend core issues. Rather than traveling to an ashram in India to reconnect with ourselves, we can discover so much about our inner world simply by paying attention to our food choices and related behaviors. Simple changes help us make great strides in redefining our relationship with food and in turn with our inner selves. Eating Well Doesn’t Have to be Complicated BY NANCY OGLESBY

D

iets, right!?! I’m not a spring chicken, so I can’t help but shake my head when a ‘new’ diet rolls around and catches people up in their hand-picked ‘science.’ I won’t name names, but there are a lot of 20th Century diets recirculating in fancy 21st Century jargon. Just for the record, there is a massive amount of solid, scientific research proving that the absolute healthiest way to eat well is to combine a multitude of plant foods with, if necessary, small amounts of lean, quality poultry and/or fish. "A diet of minimally processed foods close to nature, predominantly plants, is decisively (emphasis mine) associated with health promotion and disease prevention." Whole grains, beans and legumes, fruits, vegetables, and plant-based fats … There is your diet. Americans tend to be either so hyper-focused on macronutrients (fat, carbohydrates, or protein), or they simply don’t pay any attention to diet and eat whatever suits their fancy. These days it’s a challenge to find people who simply eat a whole, real food, balanced diet. I’d like to share a few ways to incorporate healthy choices into your busy lives without having to hyperfocus on anything, rather learn just a few new, simple habits. Try to make one simple change at a time, rather than changing everything, and those simple changes will add up to one seriously BIG change over time! The best thing you can do for your health, starting right now, is to add in fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. More than 25,000 phytonutrients are found in plant foods! That’s 24,997 more than the macroobsessed group are focusing on and a multi-vitamin, which might have 50 nutrients; it isn’t even close. Simple choice #1 is to add in a variety of plant foods. If you or your loved ones don’t like them, or only eat a limited variety, try blending them into sauces. Other than darkening your spaghetti sauce a bit, kale doesn’t seem to affect the flavor. Rather than using sugar to cut the acidity of a tomato -based sauce, try blending in carrots. It’s easy to do: blend a portion of sauce, along with the veggies, until smooth, then add back to the pot. I use a slow cooker a lot, so I blend before I even get started. Things I’ve added: sweet potatoes, spinach, kale, carrots, zucchini, summer squash, onions, and if you’d like a peppery twang, try adding cabbage Simple choice #2 is to prepare or purchase a veggie tray and set it out while you’re preparing the meal. This will give you and your family something to munch on (put out some hummus, guacamole, or salsa for a dip). This is a great way to solve the munchies while everyone is waiting for dinner! Simple choice #3 is to start your day with a smoothie. You can use a flavored, plant-based protein powder (email me for my faves!) which gives you a nice level of

fiber and protein, then add in fruit and veggies to your delight. I start every day with a smoothie, made with vanilla protein powder, nuts (great for your cholesterol profile!), banana, kale (truly doesn’t add flavor, but adds so much in the way of nutrition), and carrots, all in an almond milk base. Eating out can be a challenge if you’re not prepared, but our internet-based world makes it so much easier! Check the restaurant’s menu online before you leave. This will allow you to make a healthy choice before you get so hungry you want to eat the table! You’ll be able to decide, without distraction, what you want on the salad, or as a side. Good planning sets you up for success. Before I started doing this, I would forget to ask for an alternate dressing to the caloriedense creamy dressing, or to leave off the cheese and croutons. It also gives you an opportunity to see what fits into your budget, and you can ask them to add grilled salmon or chicken breast to a dinner salad. Don’t forget that most chefs’ main goal is to make food taste amazing, and they often do it at the expense of your waistline. There’s a reason their tomato bisque tastes that good, and the reason is cream. “I have never had broccoli that tasted so good! I just love that touch of garlic!” Yeah, mostly it’s the butter that the garlic is

sauteed in. The salad dressings are typically high fat, sugar, or both. Desserts? Cream, butter, sugar. Aim for crisp and clean and you can eat out with few worries. Have you tried to go gluten or dairy free? My clients find it easiest to choose one food at a time. If you want to switch to non-dairy milk, try mixing half and half for awhile, then move up to ¾ non-dairy and eventually 100% non-dairy. The biggest challenge for most people when they aim for dairy free is cheese. Two good alternatives are CHAO and Follow Your Heart slices. They both make a wicked grilled cheese sandwich! That grilled cheese sandwich can even be gluten free by using Udi’s Millet & Chia Whole Grain GF bread! I haven’t found a GF bread that I like untoasted, so keep that in mind. A GF friend has told me that Glutino Whole Grain English Muffins are fabulous. Whatever change you choose, make it one simple change, track it, try different options, and aim for success! Spiritual Horoscope

August 2017 Happy birthday, Leo! The total eclipse in your sign empowers anything you’re working on. You’ll feel a shift in self-esteem. Create new habits of self-nurture. Shop for healthier food and eat better. Allow enough time for rest and sleep. You deserve your love! Clear boundaries in relationships improve communication problems. As you work with affirmations, you truly believe what you are saying. Meditate on feeling yourself in that new reality! Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22) This month’s total eclipse strengthens your intuition. Pay attention to your dreams and allow extra time for meditation. Release old frustrations and negative thinking that block the flow of abundance into your life. You’re making room for positive new experiences! You might have insights into family patterns, or even issues from past lives, that hinder you now. You have the ability to completely cut off from that way of thinking and create a new life. Nurture new thought patterns so their roots strengthen!

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22) Surround yourself with positive thinkers who put thoughts into action! The total eclipse illumines your true heart. It is safe to be you! Meditation brings deepest desires to your conscious mind. These aren’t just shallow needs but guidance from your soul. As Saturn moves forward, stay steady in your beliefs. Don’t waver into negative thoughts of unworthiness or discouragement. Many goals you’ve been working on all year can come to fruition now, so don’t give up before the miracle! Make time to have fun, so results flow in quicker when you release worry!

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21) Looking for career changes? The total eclipse brings great options! You can have a new job offer or a raise in your current position. It’s easy to be noticed by superiors. Financial blocks loosen and abundance will flow! It’ s also a good time to look at wise investments and to create a new budget. Meditate on being as open as possible to receive all the “good stuff.” You’ve worked hard, so don’t be suspicious when it starts happening! Ask for guidance in your

dreams, because you’ll get answers. Also look for signs when you’re awake.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21) Saturn moves direct in your sign, giving results of hard work! If you feel trapped, bored or even depressed, your mood shifts for the better! Also, the total eclipse sparks inspiration and meaning in everything you do! Your sense of humor returns. Meditation reveals deeper meaning in your recent struggles, and you’ll feel like the Universe is on your side again. Limit time with people who pull you down or whose life outlook doesn’t match your own.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19) Let go of resentments at this total eclipse. It’s time to forgive and heal. You’ll have a burst of energy. Health improves and you’ll feel more vitality. Prosperity can also increase. Opening your heart to trust deeply again heals chronic loneliness. Your ruling planet, Saturn, moves forward now, helping you feel more included in life as you let go of old burdens of shame and blame. Draw limits and healthy boundaries where you need but removing the hurt and anger protect you as well! You can also have a wonderful new job opportunity if you’re looking for a change!

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18) You’ll have a big breakthrough in relationships with the total eclipse! Whether you’re single or partnered, the slow, steady work you’ve done on yourself will pays off. Major inner changes seem to appear all at once but are actually an accumulation of small steps made all year. Current partnerships transform for the better, or you’ll attract someone who resonates with your new self! Meditate on self-love

EVOLVING…IN KANSAS CITY

and on gratitude to keep doors to change open. Have fun in general since you can hide socially by overworking. You deserve to enjoy life!

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20) Revitalize your health at the total eclipse! What major steps can you take? Eliminate junk food? Quit smoking? Get more sleep? Release chronic worrying? Any changes bring solid results that inspire you to keep going in that direction. Also meditate on compassion and forgiveness towards yourself. You’re so hard on yourself. Ceasing that mental habit works wonders for your body, mind, and soul! You can also have a breakthrough at work, with a person, or in an area you’d previous given up hope for a shift!

Aries (March 21 – April 19) The total eclipse enriches your relationships, drawing new love to you, or restoring a “honeymoon” feeling in your current one. Also, with Saturn going direct, you’ll feel connected to the Universe. Things seem to effortlessly go your way! Meditate on releasing tension from your body and mind and “memorize” the feeling of being in the flow, so you can tap into it when life gets turbulent or challenging later on.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20) No matter how longstanding your “issues” are, you can re-pattern your thinking and feel happier! Those positive emotions magnetize better circumstances to you. The total eclipse gives insight into family wounds that have unconsciously shaped you, so you can re-shape yourself consciously into who you wish to be! Saturn moving direct helps you trust intimate connections, feel more bonded, and even can resolve financial stressors.

13

August 2017

Gemini (May 21 – June 20) Meditate to release negative ideas you have about relationships. Unconscious beliefs attract what you don’t want, so explore your depths. Let go of ideas created from past experiences, family modeling, or cultural concepts. Use affirmations to build new thoughts and reinforce them by feeling what it’s like to live from that awesome reality! You’ll be amazed at quick results you get. You’ll also feel a deep sense of belonging that evaded you the past year or so.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22) This month’s total eclipse opens the doors for abundance! This means increased finances, but also better health, more self-love, and a deeper sense of inner peace. Spending time with family is smooth and comfortable. You can even release old childhood issues while in meditation. It will seem effortless to heal. Say positive affirmations about your body and honor it for all the hard work it does for you. Also, it sounds simple, but treat yourself to enough sleep!
