The Ranch House
The heart of the property is the Jefferson Ranch House. A private drive winds south from Meadow Lake Road, rising gently through a grove of trees to the Ranch’s homesite on a plateau over the Home Range with panoramic views south to the Marble Mountains and west over Meadow Lake.
Assembled around the Ranch House are an impressive carport & horse shelter that matches the log design of the house, a post & beam barn with hay loft, large, insulated garage & shop, & log greenhouse.
The covered front porch running the length of the Ranch House has fully screened sitting area and a 16 person dining table. In from the covered entry, a cast iron wood stove on a stone hearth welcomes you in to the open main floor living area. A spacious gourmet kitchen and dining area connect to the comfortable living room. A door off the kitchen leads to large pantry/ storage area and out to the greenhouse, wood shed and garage/ shop. Beyond are the well-appointed master suite with spa bathroom, second bedroom and main bathroom. A solid log staircase leads up to the open 985sf loft space with two separate beds on one side and a games room with pool table, foosball, and air hockey at the other.
The
Believed to have been built in the late 1850’s by a Mexican muleskinner named Raphael Valenzuela, the historic Roadhouse reflects true character of the Ranch.
Originally used as a winter cabin, then a pack train and stagecoach stop on the Gold Rush Trail. In the 1870s & 1880’s, as the cattle industry grew, it became a bunkhouse for cowboys moving herds from local ranches.
The house was fully restored in the early 2000’s. The Previous owners used their expertise as custom log homebuilders to completely rebuild the hand-hewn dovetail log structure to its original condition, with some modern improvements. The building was carefully disassembled piece by piece & resurrected on a new reinforced concrete foundation with a kitchen addition, updated modern fixtures & materials, new cedar trusses and beams where necessary, new shake roof, all new updated plumbing & electrical.
A matching dovetail log barn across the road from the same era was restored in 2002 with replacement of lower logs and new roof system. The Roadhouse homesite has a fenced turnout, corrals, and a log horse shelter (built in 2010).
