Rhythm of Rest
Time away from work is necessary and exciting, especially when your organization provides Paid Time Off (PTO). Read our full article about Budgeting Your PTO to learn about using time off strategically, planning for the unexpected, and rhythms of rest. Our bodies go through cycles just like the seasons; at times we feel motivated and productive and other times we require rest and reflection. Account for your physical and mental health when planning PTO.
Consider what your body needs to avoid burnout. We are more creative, better at adjusting to change, and more effective communicators when we prioritize our well-being. Plan to use your PTO to look after yourself during times when you are predictably susceptible to seasonal allergies, winter blues, etc. Sometimes that means planning a long weekend in advance; other times, it requires having extra days saved just in case you need them.
Your work has a cycle of its own. Decide if you want to take time before a busy season or a well-deserved break afterward. Take time to plan out your PTO days, giving you something to look forward to all year long.
