ECO WORLD SUSTAINABLE BUILDING Problems + Solutions = Business Opportunities §
Worldwide trash is estimated at 7,000,000 tons per day (6Bil population), The US has to deal with 602,739 tons per day of trash, with 40,000 alone in Los Angeles County. Only about 10th of all the US solid trash gets recycled.
§
Costs of disposal are rising for a ton of municipal waste as the quick and dirty methods give way to a long term solution ($30-$150 US, 30-170 Euro), medical waste and alike are 5-7 times the cost of ordinary trash.
§
Landfills are closing at the rate of one per day in the US, with difficulty in opening new landfills. Incineration in Europe is being done, causing pollutants in the combustion exhaust and residue, creating new problems.
§
Incineration and combustion is difficult to get permitted NIMBY, with additional restrictions being placed on what can be land filled.
§
Fuel costs are rising around the world to generate electricity and provide transportation fuel. Some third world countries have no waste programs at all and use diesel fuel for power generation resulting in costs 2-4 times of developed countries.
§
Environmental restrictions to reduce the global warming theory reduce or eliminate standard options.

ECO WORLD SUSTAINABLE BUILDING What happens to Trash •
Waste dumps
•
Sanitized dump sites
•
– Uncontrolled; cheap; polluting the environment; dangerous (methane gases) – Huge space requirement; expensive drainage and gas filters; 100 years surveillance guarantee; limited to 5% organic (Europe) Incineration
•
– Partial volume reduction; toxic gases, ash and char; dangerous elements concentrated in residue; expensive residue disposal Standard Pyrolysis
•
– Expensive scrubbers for dirty gas; expensive disposal of char residue; inefficient Plasma Arc
•
– Very expensive; destroys all organic but energy recovery is low; inefficient; small throughput Cement works – Newest crime on the environment; waste substituting fuel to fire the cement furnaces; same disadvantages as incineration and emission regulations do not apply
ECO WORLD SUSTAINABLE BUILDING The Solution PYROMEX A Carbon Neutral Waste-to-Energy Process
Ultra-High Temperature Gasification § Ultra-high temperature gasification is the destructive distillation of organic materials § This distillation process involves the application of intense, indirect thermal energy in the absence of oxygen which reduces the material to a combustible gas and a hazardfree, non-leachable inorganic recyclable material

ECO WORLD SUSTAINABLE BUILDING Advantages of WTE Solution •
Ecological Recycle of Waste: – No harmful emissions to the atmosphere (closed loop-no smoke stack) – No dangerous residues to dispose of after treatment – Treatment of waste/biomass, incl. hazardous and toxic material – Meeting the highest environmental regulations
•
Efficient: – Optimum recovery of energy contained in the waste/biomass – Total conversion of the organic waste content to fuel gas – Highest energy recovery (power output per ton) – Simple operation- only a few moving parts Economical: – Lower investment, operating and maintenance costs than landfills – Valuable renewable energy produced as a product – Customer oriented modular, adjustable setup with small footprint – Very low energy requirement

ECO WORLD SUSTAINABLE BUILDING Technology Review
BLUE STONE EMVIROMENTAL, LLC. Example: Incineration vs. Pyromex Gasification • Incineration – CH3CL+7/4O2-CO2+3/2H2O+1/2CL2 – Very difficult to handle – Slow reactions in combination with oxygen, creating dioxins and furans • PYROMEX Ultra-High Temperature Gasification – CH3CL-C+H2+HCL – Very easy to dissolve in water – Fast reaction without oxygen, creating hydrochloride acids, which are simple to handle

ECO WORLD SUSTAINABLE BUILDING Key Chemical Reactions in Waste-to-Energy Ø CnHm–––>CH4+ H2+ C • First Hydrocarbon Reaction Ø CH4+ H2O–––>CO + 3H2 • Second Step Hydrocarbon Reaction Ø C + H2O–––>CO + H2 • Water (steam) Reforming Reaction Ø C + CO2–––>2 CO • Carbon Dioxide Reforming Reaction Ø CO + H20 –––> H2 + CO2 • Water Gas Shift Reaction Ø CO + 3H2 –––> CH4 + H20 • Methanation Reaction
ECO WORLD SUSTAINABLE BUILDING Typical Waste to Gas Results • Output gas concentrations depend on solid, gas and liquid input materials • Each carbon molecule needs a water or carbon dioxide molecule to reform to a carbon monoxide gas molecule • Water is the easiest on-site provider of this and using slightly excess water (steam) ensures a complete reaction especially if the feedstock varies in its carbon and chemical makeup. • 20%-45% CO, 20%-60% H2, 0%-35% CH4 before methanation or steam shift reaction
