BE SAFE A big bonus of living on campus is having a community of people watching your back. From student staff to full-time professional staff to campus police, there is a level of security and peace of mind that isn’t offered off campus. Nationally, the safety and security of all university campuses has become a priority and EWU is no exception. Safety and security is overseen by the Eastern Washington University Police Department. The department has 12 commissioned officers who are sworn to enforce all federal, state and local laws. EWU has initiated programs designed to enable our students and staff to be more informed, aware and active in the safety and security aspect of campus community life. The E2Campus (EWU Alerts) program sends emergency text messages to cell phones and emails to students, parents and staff. Other safety programs include the 911 Code Blue Light Stations, the escort services for students and staff, the vehicle unlock program, the vehicle-battery-jump program and the anonymous tip line, just to list a few.

I have been living on campus for three years, I cannot think of a time where I have not felt safe while living in my residence halls. The residence halls are monitored nightly by trained staff, doors are digitally locked behind you when you enter a building, and the community that is built acts as a few extra pair of eyes to watch each other’s backs. - Richard Arquette

I’ve lived on campus for my entire EWU experience. It makes my life so easy not having to be billed monthly and there is always something to do. I have been part of the LLCs (Living Learning Communities) for three years and absolutely love it. It is so helpful to have people on my floor taking the same math classes for study groups and sharing textbooks. — Gina Korn Computer Information Systems Sultan, Wash.
