CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEMS

Chapter.- 2.0 Genetics has developed towards more productivity, but it has also become more demanding and sensible to the environmental stress. At Exafan, we work very hard so that your facilities are updated according to the genetic progress, this way, your business performance will be unbeatable.

ONE SOLUTION FOR EACH REQUIREMENT

The best environment, the best investment. Achieving a correct environmental situation depends on an appropriate design, knowledge and operation of the ventilation system.

We all know the importance given to a correct environment provided its direct relationship with productive and pathological parameters. However, an energetic consumption penalty due to an incorrect approach to the ventilation system is less known, the same regarding the reduction of the animal comfort and the worker´s health. A correct and stable climate control positively contributes not only to the growth and development of the animals, but it is also the essential baseline to keep and improve the health situation of the whole herd, unquestionable reason behind any profitable farm.

12

Ventilation systems

CLIMATE CONTROL In order to obtain a better animal performance, it is fundamental that the climate control created inside the building is adapted to its requirements. Regarding its size, design, and location inside the building, Exafan has developed a solution that adapts to each situation according to the kind of rearing. Creating the optimal conditions for the animals and people in the most efficient way possible is the main goal.

MANAGEMENT

At Exafan, we especially focus on differentiating the constructive management and planning according to the facilities or the animals to be located inside, since ventilate a farrowing building (with modular rooms) is not the same as ventilating a gestation building (with diaphanous areas) • The lactating hyper-prolific sow has increased its heating production a lot, whereby we need to ventilate in winter in order to avoid a too high temperature inside the room, trying to offer the early – born piglets an independent comfortable area from the sow environment. •The gestation sows in groups, due to their adaptation capacity, do not need much temperature in winter, whereby we will mainly focus on keeping an optimal air quality. • Concerning lactating and weaning piglets, we have to be capable of generating an adequate “microclimate” in order to avoid stressing environmental factors.

Ventilation systems

13

CORRECT VENTILATION In order to achieve a good air quality, with adequate oxygen levels, temperature and relative humidity, free of noxious gas as CO2 and NH3, ventilation must control the following parameters:

OXYGENE

HEAT

TEMPERATURE

Supply of enough oxygen to the animals

Extraction of the remaining heat caused by the animal metabolism.

The building design and ventilation goal is keeping the environmental temperature within the animal thermo-neutral area.

TURBULENCES

DUST

EFFICIENCY

It is very important to provide the buildings with constructive features that do not prevent the air flow direction and height from being correct, if the air flow crashes against other surfaces, as for example lamps or continuous feeders, the turbulence will make the cold air fall down to the floor.

It is very important to avoid the presence of the dust in suspension, which favors the generation of bacteria to be transmitted through the lot of animals and therefore increasing the quantity of animals exposed to possible diseases.

The use of energetically efficient ventilation is based on precise criteria, highly efficient fans and the adjustment of the ventilation system to the requirements calculated instead of operating at full capacity.

14

Ventilation systems

The relative importance of the different factors affecting the internal climate control of a building largely varies according to the kind of animal located, density, building quality, including insulation, the

requiring a good environmental control. The ventilation system is a central part of the facilities that must be integrated in the building if we wish to achieve an acceptable climate control.

weather forecast and the climate area. All the ventilation systems are based on the same principle, that is to say, when the external air moves through the building, it captures the humidity and heat. But it also eliminates the gas and dust. The existing heat and dust come from the animals as well as from other sources like the humid surface - for example the slats and manure pits -. In winter, the ventilation system mainly controls the humid air content. The addition of hot air to increase the retention capacity of the air water can be necessary (by reducing the relative humidity) and / or by keeping the adequate temperature. A ventilation system will only work correctly if the farm is rightly insulated and free of leaks. Insulation is necessary to keep the building hot and to avoid any condensation. Given that the temperature and air humidity content getting inside are usually below what is already there, this air will carry away the heat and humidity from inside.

Ventilation systems

BASIC ELEMENTS In order to create the perfect environment inside the farm, it is necessary to supply fresh air, remove the vitiate air from inside and accomplish the optimal temperature and humidity conditions according to the race and growth cycle of the animals.

Harmony The key to success

The key to success of the systems provided by Exafan is based on the fact that our effort tends to achieve a total harmony between the different systems supplied. Control, extraction, heating, cooling, all of our products have been designed to understand one another in order to reach a maximum performance. To do so, we work very hard in designing simple climate controllers enabling the inter-actuation with any user´s level to be acceptable; totally autonomous heating and cooling systems with the lowest maintenance cost possible, very efficient extraction systems, use of high quality materials that add some optimal insulation and durability conditions to the building.

COMFORT ZONES TO SEPARATE THE MICROCLIMATES IN THE SAME ENVIRONMENT The need to install a heating system is defined by the animal physiological features determining the thermal requirements at the same time. Heating from an energetic efficient point of view is an essential requirement in order to combine ventilation and the absolute control of the climate inside.

SYSTEMS TO DIMINISH THE TEMPERATURE AND COOLING

A correct climate control is based on creating an adequate temperature, humidity and air purity level in our internal housing equipment. The secret of a good climate control is based on knowing how to perfectly control the temperature, air relative humidity, air speed on the animals at our own convenience, as well as the factors linked to the animal, considering the generation of heat, population density and content of noxious gas. Let´s not forget the factors linked to the environment, as the climate and building insulation.

The climate controlled by the computer is based on something else than just providing with fresh air and removing vitiate air. Keeping an ideal temperature inside the building is increasingly important. According to the climate area where the project is located, it is becoming more frequent to support the ventilation system in order to control the environmental temperature and relative humidity.

Ventilation systems

Customized design according to the climate and production area. The technical approach proposed by Exafan is focused on designing a ventilation system adapted to each farm individual production, at the same time we guarantee a minimum consumption of energy. The intensive pig production is especially focused on the environmental control; we are creating an artificial environment in our facilities that allow a higher density of more productive animals.

20

Ventilation systems

A SOLUTION FOR EACH REQUIREMENT At Exafan, we don´t only adapt to the ventilation design according to the climate area where the farm is located, we also carry out a customized study of the specific requirements such as the size and location of the building, paying attention to factors as for example the changes in the production system and genetic improvement, investments must modernize the ventilation system. We directly talk about climate control when we wish higher production levels.

KIND OF

DIAPHANOUS BUILDING

The natural ventilation system only works thanks to the thermal forces and the air speed. The hot air inside the building is not as heavy as the colder external air getting inside the building. The hot air is carried towards the roof creating a negative pressure pushing the external cold air inside the building. The air may also move through the building by means of the air inlets placed on the side walls and by means of the static pressure created by the wind.

Step 1 Natura With the ventilation Natura, we essentially depend on the external environment, also on the laws of physics in order to achieve a correct climate control for the animal. It is a kind of ventilation that has no artificial control; that is why it can be only applied in favorable climate areas and with resistant animals. During all the seasons of the year, we depend on the oxygen natural renewal, although for an acceptable operation, the construction of the building will have to comply with a series of requirements such as: wide air inlets and zenithal air outlet or ridges used to evacuate or renew the environment.

KIND OF

DIAPHANOUS BUILDING

In the facilities using natural ventilation, we have no control of the ventilation air flow, since it depends on the internal and external temperature as well as the wind speed. We may run the risk that when the external temperature is the same or over the internal temperature, the air renewal can be very low. In order to avoid this, we will have to use a positive pressure system, which drives the air towards the building inside by means of fans, so that the air comes out from the building through the chimneys (static), which work as ridges in this case.

Step 1 Natura Natural ventilation Ventilation system in two steps, using natural or static ventilation when the external environmental conditions enable it and the second phase or when the environmental temperature is too high, the dynamic ventilation is activated, driving air inside the building with the fans located on the building side walls and helped by the cooling system if necessary.

Step 2 Natura Dinamic Dynamic Natural Ventilation (or overpressure). At the AIR INLET Wide side air inlets

time of driving air inside the building with a high relative humidity percentage, we can favor a negative effect on the ventilation, since this excessive humidity can harm the animal health, as well as favor or accelerate the deterioration of the equipment and the structure due to excessive condensation; that is why Exafan especially focuses on controlling such humidity, so that it does not exceed the logical working limits thanks to the measurement and control systems.

KIND OF

DIAPHANOUS BUILDING

In this system, we combine the negative ventilation or through depression in different steps with the positive or overpressure one, even the natural one. The negative pressure system constitutes the current most popular ventilation principle, due to the fact that it is probably simpler to control and consumes less energy than other automatic systems. In facilities where the building size is too large, we will have to consider a zenithal central ventilation in order to control the air speed and direction, since the cross horizontal ventilation would not be effective.

Step 2 DD Dynamic ventilation through Depression; As a complement to the natural ventilation, let´s connect the fans of the chimneys in this second step, in order to carry out the negative ventilation by removing the air from inside the building.

KIND OF

DIAPHANOUS BUILDING

The more insulated the building, the better the production results will be, and the energetic savings considerable, so whenever possible, we should be adding quality to the air getting inside by using the insulated materials offered by Exafan as well as the improvement considered thanks to the adjustable air inlets used to control the air flow and achieve the direction and height we are interested in. It is important for the air inlets to be focused on driving the air towards the roof during the cold season and towards the area of the internal housing equipment during the hot season. In order to avoid any air flow, let´s put some complementary heating sources below the air inlets.

Step 1 Dynamic Depression Dynamic ventilation through depression; The traditional model is based on small air inlets along the building side walls and the extraction fans in the middle of the room. The air inlets drive the air towards the middle of the room by mixing the cold air getting with the hot air already there and before it gets to the animals.

Step 2 Dynamic positive Positive dynamic ventilation Given high temperatures, let´s drive the air inside the building the same way we would do in the previous case, always with the option of adding some cooled

The same as the previous system, we are talking about ventilation for diaphanous rooms in two steps by combining according to the environmental temperature, let´s ventilate driving the air inside through the false ceiling by means of negative ventilation in cold seasons, where it acclimates and progressively gets the required temperature until it is removed through the chimney extractors. In hot seasons, let´s keep on removing the air through the chimneys but the air inlet is direct from the side cooling.

Step 1 Zenithal Power Stream The air inlet during the season with excessively low temperatures is made through the false ceiling where the air volume acclimates and gains some temperature degrees in order to get inside according to the direction and speed desired, and then it is removed through the central chimneys later on.

Step 2 Cold Power Stream The difference between cold temperatures and high temperatures is that instead of driving the air through the false ceiling, it will be made through the cooCONTROL Climate controller ATLAS / RNP

Regarding extreme climate conditions, where the minimum temperature goes below 0 degrees, efficient and sustainable systems are required, since the energetic consumption of the ventilation system implies almost half the farm consumption as it is a system continuously used. The Diffuse Cold Stream system is a flexible system that adapts to the farming facilities located in extreme climate spots, also in more favorable areas where we wish to control the ventilation system without consuming much energy.

Step 1 Difusse Stream Cold Thanks to the new air inlet chimney with a diffusor, we will be able to share the air flow inside the room, and control the speed and air flow at all times the same way we would do by regulating the diffusor height, being able to activate the removing fan in order to mix both air masses, the external cold air mixes with the air inside.

KIND OF

DIAPHANOUS BUILDING

The neuter pressure system or COLD STREAM is based on some fans driving the air inside the building and the extractors removing the air from the building. In order to achieve optimal results and avoid any condensation problem, we must design a system with a slight negative pressure. On certain occasions, let´s add a fan mixing the air on the lower part of the inlet chimney, which moves and mixes the hot air inside with the cold air getting in during the cold season. This way, we reduce the risk of a cold air flow in the area where the animals are located.

Step 1 Neutral Flow The cold flow from outside is quickly mixed with the flow already acclimated inside, it drives the vitiate air outside by means of the zenithal extraction fans placed on the central chimneys.

Step 2 Diffuse Flow If the temperature is more favorable, we could get rid of the fans working as air removers with the pur-

DIAPHANOUS BUILDING

The Combi Tunnel System has been designed for areas with hot summer and dry winter along with important temperature differences and / or significant differences between day and night temperatures. During the Tunnel ventilation, a cold air flow in longitudinal direction is created, which usually has a cooling effect of 10 – 25º C. The Combi Tunnel system is adaptable to any kind of production and practically to any kind of building; it provides a stable climate control inside all year long. It is a ventilation system especially designed for buildings with a large section and very length. The Combi Tunnel ventilation generates a stable environment in the entire section of the building, the general climate control conditions equally affecting the animals enable to obtain unbeatable results in terms of growth, uniformity and physical condition of the animals.

Step 1 Cross At an external low temperature, the ventilation is caused in a lateral way, admitting the air through the wall air inlets and extracting the air through the roof chimneys.

Step 2 Tunnel When the external temperature is high, the system refers to the principle of tunnel ventilation. The air gets inside through the cooling pads and comes out through the exhaust fans on the opposite side. A cold air flow is created in a longitudinal sense with the consequent cooling effect.

Requirements to guarantee a correct operation of the tunnel ventilation:

• Provision of enough air speed to cool through convection. • Provision of enough air flow to eliminate the production of heat by the animals. • Provision of enough exchange air so that there is renewed air inside the building. • Provision of enough “minimum” ventilation levels so that there is renewed air in the cold season. • Provision of an adapted design according to the local environment. • Less humid environmental conditions may require less ventilation and cooling than what is usual in humid weather conditions.

MODULAR WAGON

The pig internal housing equipment of the farrowing room is where the ventilation system is more demanding, it is where we must overcome the challenge of simultaneously achieve two microclimates, with almost totally opposed environmental conditions required: the ones for the sow and the ones for the piglets. The purpose is accomplishing an equilibrium between these two different environments, so that the energy supplied to the animals in the form of fodder is not wasted in a transformation required to maintain or regulate the body temperature but instead, used mainly for the production processes (development of the fetus, lactation, growth,‌). In modular rooms or type wagon, the forced ventilation through depression is typical for farrowing or weaning rooms, it is the most appropriate and widely used typology in this kind for internal housing equipment. Step 1 Cold Zenithal Central In large modular rooms, where it is extremely difficult to control the speed and the adequate direction of the air flow, we refer to the same ventilation principle applied to the diaphanous buildings, with an extraction chimney in the center of the room; this makes the air flow move from both sides of the room.

Step 2 Heat Zenithal Central When ventilating in summer, we must add some cooling, in order to offset the high external temperature.

The goal of designing a good environmental control system for the modular rooms is to monitor the following aspects:

• Temperature inside the room in the most stable way possible. • Renewal of the air inside in order to supply the required oxygen. • Homogenous distribution of the renewed air. • Avoid the air flow at the animal height. • Limitation of the relative humidity level, presence of noxious gas and dust in suspension.

Lactating piglets and early weaning piglets are especially sensible animals to the environmental factors such as thermal oscillation, air flows, etc.; we must arrange an adequate and stable environmental conditions as well as air quality to these animals, with the purpose of avoiding a decrease of the production parameters. Especially focusing on preserving the animals from the factors that can affect their comfort levels, to do so; we must provide comfort areas where the environmental conditions favor a reduction of the thermal stress, without compromising the environmental quality and purity. The challenge is to achieve all of this with the lowest energy consumption possible, to do so; Exafan offers an entire range of intelligent climate controllers as well as efficient and high quality extraction systems.

Step 1 Zenithal further Cold In order to meet the minimum ventilation required or that of winter, the air flow goes through the entire room so that when it gets to the area of the animals its temperature is already adequate.

Step 2 Zenithal further Heat When the external temperature is high, the air flow is required to go through the cooling pad and fall down closer to where the animals are placed.

A bad environmental condition in the farrowing rooms may turn into an increase of the mortality and morbidity rates, diminution of the reproduction and production parameters, increase of the pharmaceutical cost, as well as number of days the facilities are occupied, etc. At Exafan, our major concern is to reach the maximum performance level of your farrowing rooms, to do so, it is necessary to have a good genetics, an adequate management of the production, feeding and reproduction systems, implementation of the correct health and biosecurity measures, but also a perfect environmental control, which enables to keep these so peculiar rooms for the animals located inside with the adequate comfort levels required and under the best conditions.

KIND OF BUILDING

MODULAR WAGON

In extreme climates where it would be extremely dangerous to ventilate by driving air inside the building (overall with extremely low temperatures), we must refer to facilities, increasingly usual when the air inlet is caused by the false ceiling, where the cold air acclimates in the air chamber generated between the external insulated roof and the false ceiling, where the adjustable air inlets are placed, this enables us to drive the air flow without risking the so delicate animal integrity placed in the farrowing facilities.

Step 1 Cold Zenithal Modular Stream In order to achieve the minimum ventilation required or that of winter, the air flow goes through the entire room; that is why when it gets to the area where the animals are located; it is already at the adequate temperature. The air removal takes place thanks to the minimum ventilation chimneys placed in the middle of the room, which makes it an ideal ventilation system for large modular rooms.

Step 2 Heat Zenithal Modular Stream When the temperature is more favorable, let´s move on to ventilating with the cooling system placed in the climate control corridor, therefore, the air getting CONTROL Climate controller EOS / DN-xx

Clean rooms are those rooms with a controlled room that avoid an environmental pollution and operate under stable conditions. That is why, it is necessary to control the air temperature, relative humidity, lightning, speed and overall, the differential pressure. The air driven inside the room has been previously filtered thanks to the HEPA or ULPA filters. We must supply an air flow guaranteeing that the air flow inside the room is renewed a certain number of times per hour. In facilities where the animals located are of extremely high quality or have been genetically selected, the climate control system must guarantee an excellent level.

The filtration and depuration of the air driven inside must be capable of avoiding the infection or re-infection of the farm via the aerosol, strategies that are increasingly being implemented, even in farms with breeding sows.

The farms we wish to filter need a forced ventilation system that renews the air inside and drives it when it passes through the filters offering some resistance. Usually, the air is driven from the room roof. In most cases, the air flow is unidirectional even though it is possible to work with turbulent flows in order to keep the air in motion so that the particles having got inside are captured by the floor filters.

Bio-aerosol: solid or liquid particles from biological origin in suspension in the air or in other gaseous environments. The PRRS virus moves in bio-aerosol mode up to a distance of 9 km. and surrounded by organic material. Efficiency: capacity of the filters to stop particles as dust, pollen, mildew, and bacteria. The more efficient the filter, the smaller the size of the particle the filter may stop. Filter resistance: it is the effect of the filter when the air flow gets through. The filtering efficiency increases with a high resistance but the total air flow the filter let go through decreases. We will need a higher number of filters for the same amount of air flow to filter. However, with a low resistance degree, the filter is not so efficient in terms of stopping the particles, but it will allow a larger air flow to get through. We will need a lower number of filters.

AIR INLETS Regarding the ventilation design, it is necessary to bear in mind the air inlet, since the pig species is quit sensible to the air flow, it is very efficient in relationship with high temperatures, but mortal for low temperatures. The different air inlets made by Exafan guarantee a correct air flow according to the necessary requirements, indicating the direction and speed desired in each moment. Exafan meets these requirements thanks to its range of air inlets:

EXHAUST AIR

Chapter.- 5.1

The exhaust air systems designed by Exafan have as main goal: to supply oxygen inside the building, remove gas, eliminate the water steam caused by the animal breathing and the manure as well as control the temperature in the internal housing equipment.

INTELLIGENT USE OF THE ENERGY

Significance of the ventilation

Ventilation is one of the main factors to bear in mind concerning the design of a farm for most species, since it is essential to obtain a satisfactory production performance rate. Among the ventilation functions, let´s underline renewing the air inside the rooms, facilitating the introduction of clean air from outside with a higher quantity of oxygen, vital to breathe, removal of noxious gas, unpleasant odors and the environmental humidity caused by the animals, beds and manure, and finally control the local temperature.

To do so, EXAFAN provides a wide range of specific fans to meet your requirements.

118

Ventilation

Exafan has designed a range of fans capable themselves of generating any air flow in order to overcome any challenge, thanks to the widest variety of models available in the market. The main ventilation function in pig facilities is the permanent renewal of air, removal of any noxious gas, unpleasant odors and dust, strictly control of the environmental temperature and humidity. Exafan has created a logical ventilation system present in all of our computer programs, which links the concepts of low cost energy, and introduction of the convenient air quantity and direction inside the room, avoiding unpleasant air flows at the animal level, therefore, we may guarantee that the system developed by EXAFAN is the only one dealing with these two parameters. The new Exafan “EnergySaveâ€? system is used to control the new fans in an airtight unit outside the fan, (installed close to it), which to our own opinion implies an advantage regarding its maintenance and endurance, since we don´t submit the pure electronics to the working conditions of an electro-mechanic element as the fan, likewise, in the case of maintenance, its accessibility and access are much more advantageous. Such systems are based on the implementation of new synchronous motors with no brush, permanent magnet and electronic commutation, all of them developed thanks to our long experience in the industry.

Ventilation

119

Calculation of the requirements

Essential for your savings

The high operation costs of a ventilation system are usually caused by an inefficient fan operation, which is usually caused by a wrong choice, faulty system design or excessive air flow at the same time.

An efficient use of the ventilation energy consumed is based on using precise criteria, highly efficient fans and on the adjustment of the ventilation system to the calculated requirements instead of operating at a full capacity.

A wrong selection of the fan implies that we have over-dimensioned providing an excessive air flow as a result. The use of fans working at their optimal efficiency point is one effective way to minimize the operation costs.

1% 66%

[] POWER [] MAINTENANCE [] INVESTMENT

Total cost of the fan working cycle The fan usually represents the largest portion of the ventilation system energy consumed; better and more efficient fans will not only have a significant impact on preserving the environment but also on improving the final outcome.

Design and technology 33%

The “EnergySave” philosophy, or in other words, Exafan´s intelligent air exhaust concept, contributes to control the fan speed in an efficient way, which enables to significantly decrease the motor working temperature, that is to say, we stop consuming energy to generate heat.

Exagreen program Our products are adequate for the future. This way, we offer our clients a means of combining profitability and sustainability while taking advantage of the benefits involved regarding simple and well – planned facilities.

120

Energy efficiency It is the intelligent use of energy, that is to say, consumption with no waste. With the new line of “Exagreen” efficient motors by Exafan, we may get a better performance and improve our competitive profile, keeping a harmonious balance with the environment. The consumption of fans represents 39% of the total energy consumption in a farm. Up to now, the fans equipped with electronic motors are the best solution available to reduce this consumption of power (between 30% and 80%). The rotation control incorporated guarantees the fan constant speed no matter what influence may exert the air outside and the internal depression, which guarantees minimum ventilation but sufficiently precise and constant with a maximum air flow.

EnergySave The intensive farming industry, mainly pig and poultry, is involved in a continuous development caused by on one side, the application of new health standards, animal well-being and environmental protection, on the other hand, the industry restructuration to adapt to higher competitive levels if we wish to successfully compete in the current market. Making more competitive farms, offer comparable working conditions to the society as those existing in other sectors and offset the lack of available labor force, is forcing farm managers to provide their facilities with more mechanization and automation.

In this context, and bearing in mind that this reconversion has to concentrate the production in larger and more automated farms as main trend, we expect an increase of the energy consumption in the intensive farming industry during the following years. Therefore, it is the right time to think over and propose design technical measures, as well as give some practical recommendations about the management of farms, rational use of energy, energy efficiency and savings.

ErP standard More efficient fans The Ecodesign Standard ErP 2009/125/CE is going to promote the economic and sustainable use of the energetic resources available. The main purpose is promoting an ecologic design and successful struggle against the climate change by means of the reduction of the CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. During the next years, the application of the standard will affect all the products receiving and consuming energy so that they are more environmentally friendly.

THERMAL ADVANTAGES

Given the current energy price and its continuous increase and bearing in mind its current values, it is no nonsense to consider a period of 1 to 2 years for your investment return taking into account the energy saving thanks to this new system.

The criteria use to select an efficient ventilation system, is based on choosing a motor delivering the air flow at a determined working pressure in a ventilation system, by using the lowest quantity of energy possible, while keeping other parameters constant. As we can observe on the following graph.

In the conventional systems regarding the speed control of the fan motors, most of the energy during the generation of heat is wasted, the same way, the design concept of the conventional motors has a high energy waste coefficient which does not turn into movement but instead turns into heat, what is really new and relevant in our successful system is the use of electronics specifically designed to control these motors, as a result, this gives a significant decrease of the motor temperature.

VENTILATION KEY

The highest flow point takes place when the conventional motor is turned on; it is even sometimes up to 3.5 times the total amperage of a normal working consumption at full load, which implies an over-dimension in the electric cables. The increase of this section, plus the long lines of cables and unstoppable increase of the purchase cost of the raw materials, implies a considerable increase of the investments required.

Thanks to the new EnergySave system on top of replacing the classical protection devices (magneto-thermal), we avoid the expenditure in additional equipment as well as installation on the electric board, we may protect the motor according to the following aspects:

The EnergySave electronic system enables to precisely control the speed guaranteeing that the motor always works at its optimal working point.

EnergySave All / nothing (on/off)

100 90 80 70

Input power (%)

• Incorrect motor position detection. • Protection against a motor high temperature. • Protection against overcharge. • Protection against a phase failure • Protection against low voltage. • Protection against a blocked rotor.

A soft and proportional start - up of the EnergySave system achieves that this unbalanced initial consumption rate turns into a ramp, which enables reducing the caliber or section of the electric wiring with the corresponding economic savings (a correct electric wiring dimension for a continuous consumption implies to take into account the start - up highest point).

Robust and reliable

Small exhaust fans (Eu35-Eu80) In an intensive farm, we must provide the animal with an ideal environment that guarantees its health; as a result, we improve our production level thanks to the comfort achieved. For the last years, we have underlined the importance of the environment and the quality of the internal housing equipment regarding the animal health in relation with its productivity.

124

Ventilation

WALL FANS Minimum ventilation enables renewing the atmosphere inside the farm by limiting the levels of noxious gas and suspended particles, which could be harmful under determined circumstances. For such purposes, we have designed the range of robust and reliable fans EU and EC, capable of letting sufficient air flows come out successfully before any challenge thanks to the widest range of models available in the market.

Novelties / current challenges

A farmer providing the adequate climate and ventilation control inside the farm minimizes the risk of diseases while keeping a stable and highly productive environment. To do so, it is very important for all the products to have been designed and developed for a reliable and efficient ventilation system guaranteeing the perfect climate control inside the building. Exafan supplies reliable and sustainable equipment.

Ventilation

125

The air inlet and outlet follow an axial direction (perpendicular to the blades position) according to the coaxial cylindrical surfaces. They are most common when ventilating farms, and are indistinctively used to drive or intake large volumes of air at a low pressure. Bearings with locking device ref.-2RS60203 and 2Z6203, the use of grease with a high fusion point, ring-shaped rubbers embedded in the back cover, or the double system crankshaft oil seals with a labyrinth locking device, are the elements in charge of

the airtightness and motor protection among others, on top of using four robust arms to fix it. All of these components are the ones we usually don´t pay too much attention, but determine our big difference vis-à-vis our competition.

New and exceptional steel metal cover that superficially protects against long – term erosion by means of different applications.

TOTAL PROTECTIO

We offer treated steal as an alternative to the standard materials made of galvanized and stainless steel with a new coating made of a classical galvanized industrial line by hot immersion, immerged in a fusion bath with a special chemical composition of zinc, 3.5% aluminum and 3% of magnesium. This 3% of magnesium is essential since it creates a stable and resistant layer on the entire surface while it protects against corrosion in a much more effective way than a coating using a lower content of magnesium.

• Better resistance to corrosion: Up to 10 times better than galvanized steel. • Ideal to withstand the most hostile environments. • More profitable alternative than the post – galvanized process.

138

Pioneers in innovation Being loyal to our philosophy of constant improvement, at EXAFAN, we have made a huge step forward in terms of R + D, providing our clients with very relevant NOVELTIES regarding our fans. High quality materials on the forefront.

Self – protection against sharp edges. On top of being reinforced by a cathode protection equivalent to a coating made of zinc, it protects these sharp edges by means of a fine layer made of zinc with magnesium that prevents any corrosive reaction.

Cyclical resistance test to corrosion for different compositions of Zn, Al, Mg. Number of cycles till the appearance of red oxide.

Our more than 28 years of experience supplying equipment, facilities and systems made of high quality materials against aggressive environments, enable us to innovate and search for new alternatives giving a reliable solution. The materials used for the large flow fans have been certified according to the most demanding tests carried out in reference laboratories.

Coating

10 µm of coating subject to an alternative cycle of 8 hours: cycle fog (5% NaCi) / dry cycle / humidity cycle.

It offers a real advantage in comparison with post – galvanized products and even in comparison with high – value products such as stainless steel and aluminum.

Motor efficiency (%)

Labeling The IEC 60034-30 standard main goal is to harmonize the standards regarding the motor global efficiency by means of the definition type of motor efficiency, known as IE2, IE3, IE4, and of the testing methods used to determine the motor efficiency (IEC 60034-2-1). For a motor to be classified and marked CE, it must comply with the performance specified. The IE1 is the lowest efficiency one, while the IE3 is the highest one.

Exafan on the forefront • Standard motors IE2 • Motors IE3 (optional) • Electronically controlled BLDC Motors IE4 (optional) 140

Ventilation

Power efficiency Exafan installs energy efficient motors IE2 in our fans in compliance with the regulation regarding power efficiency.

Efficiency

The motors used for the Exafan fans comply with the regulation required in each country, offering different alternatives according to the energy requirements, kind of facilities or animal rearing typology. The efficient use of energy is something that increasingly takes part in our daily life, which enables to decrease the energy costs and it is also beneficial for the environment.

Specific

For those facilities where the animal rearing period is relatively long and the maintenance or cleaning activity of the equipment cannot be made as often as it should be, the motors equipped with a cooling fan may become a problem since they usually work under dusty conditions, in these circumstances, dust tends to accumulate on the rear grid and blocks any kind of air flow, which forces the motor to work at a high temperature and shortens its useful life. For this kind of scenarios, as for example in the case of internal housing equipment for laying hens, Exafan has completely sealed fans available that offer completely satisfactory results under the mentioned working conditions according to our own experience.

TENV Motors

The motor irradiates its excessive heat through the carcass; therefore, the motor has extra flaps in order to transfer the heat.

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

CENTRIFUGE The centrifugal system is made of black acetal resin with UV protection.

PROPELLERS WITH 3 BLADES

PINCERS

The new aerodynamic design of the blades improves the efficiency of the whole set and achieves a higher value regarding the flow ratio (m3 / h) in terms of the electric consumption in vats. The aerodynamic design of the propellers by means of the computer programs in cooperation with the most prestigious test benches enables us to distribute the pressure on the profiles along the blades more efficiently.

The new design of the pincers and the use of state-of-the-art technical materials confer an unprecedented durability and resistance.

144

Ventilation

Part of the Exafan large flow fan success is based on how easy is to assemble and dismantle., which enables to send them dismantled to destination at a much lower cost: many elements have been provided with position and order identification marks so that you may assemble it in an intuitive way.

FERRULE Studied ferrule design in order to strengthen the “venture effect, which favors the air flow through the fan.

SHUTTER OPACITY The new design of the shutter locking blades guarantees its airtightness and a greater opacity in order to prevent the light from getting in for a perfect insulation when the fan is in stand - by mode. Essential opacity in facilities where the animals have to be located under controlled lightning conditions.

Ventilation

145

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

FIXING A special supports fixes the mesh and eliminates any vibration.

VERSATILITY Many possibilities regarding the configuration chosen. Construction materials used: the entire stainless steel fan or only the stainless steel blades or the entire fan made of galvanized steel. Kind of propeller chosen: 3 or 6 blades. Type of motor: wide variety of possibilities according to the client´s requirements. 146

Ventilation

Our experience has helped us to improve the design on the basis of the assembler´s safety; that is why we have taken into account the fact of avoiding dangerous sharp edges.

FINISHING The high quality materials used gives the product a top finishing and an unprecedented behavior in the farm.

SHUTTER BLOCKING The blocking shutter (on both sides) by means of the exclusive Exafan lever enables to clean and maintain the fan without risking our integrity on top of avoiding any possible deformation of the blades, so that during the cleaning activities in the farm, no strange objects damage them (with the purpose of keeping the blades open).

Ventilation

147

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

SILENT Soundproof materials create an apt product in order to reach the highest acoustic comfort level for animals and people. Plastic parts avoid the direct contact to the metal parts; certified motors also comply with the highest standard required by the reference laboratories. All of it enables us to provide a high quality and comfortable environment to the animals so that they show their highest genetic potential.

Position and order identification marks so that we can assemble without any problem.

148

Ventilation

The new shape of the shutter blades have been redesigned to offer the minimum opposition against the air flow, we have also eliminated the corners where the dust sedimentation could be ultimately located and decrease the air flow during the rearing period.

AERODYNAMICS

Having reached a level where the whole range of fans meets the highest quality and performance standards has not been an easy task. We have been adding details and features to our products on the basis of our clients´ recommendations, clients we always listen to, making clear the company´s service orientation.

The new shutter improves the aerodynamic coefficient of the whole set and enables to prevent the light and air from getting inside the facilities.

TRANSMISSION TENSION The sliding motor has been specially designed to decrease the overcharge of the electric motor bearings.

Same flow with fewer exhaust fans The higher complexity of the current farming facilities, their size with the purpose of accommodating the highest number of animals as well as the requirements to fulfill regarding the animal climate control due to its genetics, force us to achieve a higher exhaustion capacity, usually subject to constructive limits, therefore, Exafan offers a complete range of conic large flow fans, more power, reliability and efficiency.

The wide range of Cone fans is designed to offer a higher air flow with a simple assembly system.

Thanks to the incorporation of the specific Cone designed by Exafan, we have managed to increase the fan performance between 12% and 15% by significantly decreasing the electric motor consumption.

* Tested in a certified laboratory

Fans made of the following materials: : • Galvanized steel ZZ 275 • Stainless steel AISI 304 • Steel with special coating (zinc, aluminum and magnesium)

Adaptable magnets

The magnets including a protection device made of rubber avoid the opening of the air gate; they are protected against erosion due to friction. Let´s underline that we have expected to regulate the magnet intensity in order to adjust its pressure over the locking valve.

Propeller

Propeller of three blades The propeller with three blades is more efficient due to its reduced consumption, the whole set is also more stable as the vibration is reduced as well.

Locking Locking system by means of a butterfly valve. This locking system represents some 75% less opposition to the air in comparison with the usual shutter system. Gates do not suffer the 12% loss of efficiency due to dirtiness and the deterioration of the ordinary shutters; this allows the resistance factor to be practically unlimited and with little maintenance cost. The locking system is based on two mobile parts making cleaning and opening easier.

156

Ventilation

Cone

The cone provides around 12% and 15% more flow; it is more efficient than the shutter fan. The clipping system used to assemble is safer and more professional.

Design and efficiency

Our single bar system including a traction system on one side, represents a more stable propeller which improves the flow, thanks to the air inlet and outlet hole of the fan set, no opposition or obstacle is found.

Guide The guide tow allows the valve to exactly open, and helps it to position at the end, even when the air hits the valves.

COOLING

Chapter.- 6.1 The cooling systems for farms built by Exafan provide the animals with comfort or to prevent stress and other problems such as fertility during summer time, essential to keep the appropriate required climate factors in order to rear the animals under convenient conditions.

Cooling systems

The air relative humidity indicates its capacity to absorb the water steam coming out from the animals; it is linked to the temperature and the water content in the air. The loss of heat from the animals due to evaporation and transpiration depends on the air capacity to receive the water (steam) liberated by the animal; this renders difficult setting the optimal relative humidity levels, and only an interval of values always linked to the environmental temperature is fixed.

Given that a well - designed environmental control system is the most efficient tool to ensure an optimal production in the internal housing equipment, it is required to apply some environmental control strategies in order to achieve the maximum performance level possible with the minimum consumption of resources, especially considering the animal welfare as well as the energy and production efficiency of the farm.

If you pretend to control the environment within the room in terms of energy and economic cost, managing the facilities must be well done and avoiding any conflict between all these factors. On the other hand, an adequate environment for the pigs requires a control of the humidity concentration, CO2, NH3 and other kinds of gas, that are not usually measured, since it is only based on temperature and we don´t know the interaction with the remaining variables involved. The air humidity control is an important factor that will determine the loss of energy due to ventilation; that is why it is necessary to optimize it. The optimal management of the air quality inside a pig farm room is essential if we wish to prevent workers and pigs getting infected with respiratory diseases.

SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE METHOD

COOLING Evaporative

A high concentration of animals, as it happens in modern farms, implies a significant generation of heat. In winter, the situation does not usually imply any major problem, since the gradient with the external world allows this heat to remove adequately. Even sometimes too fast, in such a way that is required to install heating systems. But, this does not happen in summer; when the temperature gradient between the temperature inside the farm and outside may even reverse. Under this situation, it takes much time to remove the heat caused by the animals; we may risk the animals to suffer a heat stroke if the maximum comfort temperature is exceeded.

164

Cooling

NEBULATION This system is based on the diminution of the temperature by means of the combination of ventilation and water spraying in the air flow or the so - called evaporative cooling thanks to water by means of spraying directly on the animal. This cooling is based on the use of sprinklers, nozzles or hose injectors according to the size of the particle and the output pressure (high or low).

We

recommend

installing

cooling systems in order to make sure that the temperature inside remains below the maximum value preset.

Line

High – pressure sprayers

Exafan´s high – pressure sprayers, generates a spraying curtain that produces a cooling effect thanks to evaporation. The evaporative cooling is a simple and effective method, where water requires calories to evaporate, so it takes 600 calories from the environment for every gram of water incorporated in the air. The more water evaporates the cooler the environment will be.

SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE METHOD Typical in IA, farrowing, fattening and weaning facilities. They are usually effective in dry areas. The same as it happens with aspersion, the use of filters and the fact of working with softer water will help us to prolong the pad useful life.

168

Cooling

Evaporative cooling is based on the idea of letting the air flow with a determined content of humidity through a wet surface (pad). The air, when getting through the pad, evaporates water. In order to turn from liquid to gas, water molecules need energy in terms of heat, this heat is directly taken from the air flowing, this way, after it has gone through the pad, the air has lost heat (temperature decrease) and the water steam content increases (humidity increases).

COOLING PADS TYPES: Cooling modules Cooling huts

Main advantages of the evaporative system • Immediate decrease of the temperature inside. • Energy saving. • Low cost installation and maintenance. • Adequate humidity rate. • Environmentally friendly.

169

COOLING MODULES

The cooling system using humid walls is a very durable set of modules of evaporative cooling pads 10 cm or 15 cm thick, made of stainless or galvanized steel; we may obtain higher cooling surfaces with a good relationship between efficiency and investment.

Versatility

Thanks to the two kinds of pad width (10 and 15 cm) and the significant range of heights available, we may set any kind of facility according to our own circumstances, either new or reformed and according to the cooling requirements necessary.

170

HEATING AND COMFORT

Chapter.- 7.1

The requirement to install a heating system is based on the animal physiological features, which determines its thermal needs at the same time. That is why; it is important to remember that sometimes, not all the animals located inside the building have the same temperature requirements. Any animal experiencing adequate thermal conditions should develop its maximum genetic potential since its adaptation energetic cost to the environment will be low, on the other hand, if such conditions are deficient, the adaptation cost will be higher due to the fact that a portion of the energy consumed must be destined to mitigate these inappropriate environmental thermal conditions.

Comfort

Heating systems

The relevance of the heating system for the pig internal housing equipment enables keeping an adequate temperature in order to reach some optimal production results based on the accomplishment of high transformation rates.

This is way; a thermal comfort area is defined as the temperature range guaranteeing the anima maximum growth. Below this temperature range (lower critical temperature), the animal consumes fodder without being capable to adequately turn this into a weight increase, since it destines this consumption to fight cold, over this range, (upper

critical

temperature),

the

animal

decreases the consumption of fodder in a remarkable way.

In order to achieve such temperatures, it is necessary to have a heating system guaranteeing the temperature control inside the internal housing equipment.

The bars separating the sow from the piglets prevent these animals to be smashed by the sow while they search the sow heat. As a replacement for the sow heat, some heating plates are put on the floor adding the heat necessary for the piglet survival. Usual systems are plates of 1200 x 400 mm and integrated in the floor, they may be either electrical or hydraulic, and work at a surface temperature of 36ยบ C.

178

Heating

HEATING PLATES Heating is used in pig farms with the main purpose of meeting the animal requirements at an early age. It is only used in specific cases and considered to be an essential practice. The use of an adequate insulation system does not imply a significant reduction of these heating requirements.

Recommendation We recommend using heating regulating systems, including environmental probes or on the plate, we also recommend following the instructions regarding the temperature.

FARROWING NEST

IDEAL MICROCLIMATE For piglets

The comfort area heated is a surface that enables keeping an ideal microclimate for the farrowing piglets during their early days; the sow comfort is improved at the same time. The specific comfort area for the piglets inside the farrowing crate avoids the loss of heat, which means significant cost savings, since the temperature of the remaining room area is below what is needed by the piglets, the sow comfort is improved at the same time. The protection area is made of highly resistant technical plastic which provides the nest with the required rigidity and endurance necessary to face the most aggressive climate conditions possible during the farrowing period. They give tenacity at any temperature. This is especially interesting for cold environments, where other kinds of plastic turn fragile. They are mechanically resistant and rigid. Thanks to its design including edges, it is very easy to clean.

Heating

NEST FOR PIGLETS The nest for the early piglets is a place requiring much higher temperature than the usual environmental conditions inside the room for piglets. That is why; we always need a different kind of heating. The hyper-prolific lactating sow has increased its production of heat a lot; therefore we have to ventilate in winter and avoid high temperatures inside the room, while we try to provide the early piglets with a comfort area independently from the sow environment.

We recommend the use of a farrowing nest, not only for comfort reasons regarding the piglet, but also for economic reasons thanks to its energy efficiency. The additional costs generated by the choice of this system are offset in the short term. The fact of keeping an adequate temperature inside the farrowing room significantly decreases the heating requirements in winter on top of improving the thermal requirements of the sow (between 18ยบ C and 20ยบ C), it also provides a microclimate for the piglets with an optimal and homogeneous temperature of between 28ยบ C and 30ยบ C. Besides, the sow feeding supply is optimal and so, we achieve a higher production level of milk, and as a consequence, better results with the piglets.

DOUBLE & SIMPLE

NEST

Its studied design with round curves avoids the accumulation of waste and makes cleaning and disinfecting easier. It is easy to install or remove. Designed for any kind of infrared lamp available in the market, it is possible to be placed in the center of the crate or in a “corner” format.

ADVANTAGES • Robust and resistant • Easy to clean • Insulated structure • Significant energy saving cost (around 30%) • It protects against air flows • It enables reducing the room environmental temperature, improving the sow comfort.

Blocking trap door

The blocking inlet bar has a blocking door or trapdoor.

DIMENSIONS

Apron

Apron kit, it has an apron with the inlet of the piglets, on top of the fixing parts to the sides made of PVC, as well as a handling door used to block the animals whenever we wish to make any activity inside the farrowing crate, as a consequence, we prevent any smashing problem.

Material

Available in opaque or transparent material to view the animals from a certain distance, both resistant to heat and the most aggressive environments...

FIXED

NEST

The detachable version has some manipulation handles, so that the exchange to the rooms where we have the early piglets is as simple as possible, this way, we may use a single nest in several farrowing rooms.

Cleaning

The fixed nest is easy to dismantle and transport for a better disinfection

Transportation

It has two manipulation handles in the non – articulated version for an easy dismantling before cleaning, or for a later use in another room.

Simplicity

Let´s just put it and it will be ready with no need of any mechanization task to fix it.

ADVANTAGES. PERFORMANCE Resistance

Aluminum reacts to the air oxygen creating an excellent fine layer of oxide. This layer is dense and protects against corrosion excellently. The anodized layer increases the oxide layer thickness; as a consequence, it improves the natural protection resistance against corrosion.

192

Heating

Material

Extruded and anodized aluminum of 16 microns. Aluminum is an excellent heat conductor. A conductor made of aluminum weighs almost half the one made of copper but with the same conductivity degree. Good light and irradiated heat reflector

HEATING SYSTEMS BY MEANS OF HOT WATER

WATER

TUBE A radiant tube has a low cost in terms of production of calories in relationship with the fuel consumed. This is so due to the great transmission of heat 170 Kcal / her per linear meter). The radiated heat eliminates the inconvenience caused by the hot air, avoiding too dry environments and creation of dust. Easy and economic installation, with no threads (thanks to its special pressure adapters). Internal diameter: 15 mm Material: anodized aluminum

UNIFORM HEAT DISTRIBUTION

ADVANTAGES. The kind of heat emitted, distribution uniformity, wise use of the system space available, plus the guaranteed safety are some of the advantages provided among others. The required energy to use in a farm may come from sources being less noxious than the environment. There are several “alternative” energies or “renewable” sources ready to be exploited in the market implying very significant cost savings for the environment.

This system favors the temperature uniform distribution and a better cleaning of the facilities. Technology can help us in a better energy consumption pattern if we wish to obtain the same energetic performance.

FLOOR HEATING SYSTEMS BY MEANS OF HOT WATER This kind of heating is considered to be one of the most comfortable and healthy available ones according to the World Health Organization.

Savings

of up to %60

Great environmental advantages In the radiant floor heating system, the emitter is the farm floor itself. The technique is based on letting flow hot water at an average temperature of (40-45º) through a system of embedded pipelines in the concrete floor. These facilities require very little maintenance which in fact is pretty similar to how simple is to maintain an ordinary unit, with the difference that the parts are designed and ready to endure longer. They have been especially designed to support regular environmental climate conditions; this way, we may consider a short amortization period concerning the initial investments in the facilities. Starting from that period of time, we directly achieve a reduction of the costs involved as for example in terms of maintenance, repairs and spare – parts. The current situation based on our knowledge and experience enables us to guarantee an environmental, economic and energetic success. It is a technology that since there are already existing examples, initial difficulties in terms of design have already been solved; we can guarantee the reduction of the costs involved in a farm in the medium term. Likewise, the adaption and customization to each particular case from a general perspective is possible in relationship with the environmental conditions (location) and the farm variables. It is not a standard product, but a concept of energy efficient use and basic renewable energy sources, which applied according to the farming conditions, guarantee a very successful production of healthy piglets.
