Volume 3 Issue 22 Family Additions Maternity Center Receives National Recognition for Promoting Infant Safe Sleep Practices The Family Additions Maternity Center at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital is once again lauded for its commitment to best practices on a national level. The latest recognition comes from the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program where Excela Health was identified as a Safe Sleep Leader at the Silver level. The Safe Sleep certification program was created by Cribs for Kids®, the only national infant safe sleep organization. Based in Pittsburgh, PA, Cribs for Kids® is dedicated to preventing infant sleep-related deaths due to accidental suffocation. Excela Health’s certified childbirth educators teach safe sleep practices during the free monthly classes offered to expectant parents. Those practices are reinforced following delivery as part of postpartum care for mothers and newborns, and during subsequent checkups with the child’s care provider.

Westmoreland Hospitality Shop Update The Westmoreland Hospitality Shop will remain closed through 2020. The Shop will REOPEN as soon as it is feasible in 2021 and will continue to sell lottery tickets, snacks, beverages, beautiful accessories and gifts as well as seasonal and baby items. Shop volunteers will continue to keep the shop windows festive throughout 2020. Our staff and volunteers send their regards and well-wishes to all of our faithful customers. See you in 2021!

Specifically, this honor reflects Excela Health’s demonstrated commitment to implementing technologies and strategies such as population health/cost-of-care analytics, health information exchange integration and patient portals to help analyze data and to achieve meaningful clinical and efficiency outcomes.

Schedule Your Flu Shot Flu shots are once again available to all employees, physicians and volunteers. This year registration is required if obtaining a flu shot through Excela Health due to social distancing. You may view the schedule here or by visiting the calendar of events on EH Web here. You will be AND SCHEDULE ONLINE able to select a time that best suits your schedule. Appointments can also be made by calling the Call Center at 1-877-771-1234. Note: Appointments made for Westmoreland Hospital have moved to the ground floor walkway to garage.


In The News Meet Dr. Bassel Sayegh Meet Bassel Sayegh, MD, electrophysiologist at Excela Health. Dr. Sayehh has specific interest in atrial fibrillation procedure and risk reduction of stroke with left atrial appendage closure procedure. “I chose electrophysiology becasue it requires a long-term relationship with the patient and allows me to have a positive impact on my patient’s quality of life.” Request an appointment here.

Meet Mount Pleasant native, Joseph Secosky, MD, non-invasive cardiologist. Dr. Secosky has practiced in the Pittsburgh area for almost 30 years and has recently moved back to Westmoreland County. “I enjoy being a cardiologist because cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and I think I can help.” Request an appointment here.

Meet Dr. Euhan John Lee Meet Euhan John Lee, MD, medical director of pulmonary and sleep medicine at Excela Health. As an intern Dr. Lee took an interest in the physiology of breathing and the mechanics of the lungs. “Now I enjoy being able to take care of patients who have trouble breathing. Community Spread Blamed for Spiking COVID-19 Cases in Westmoreland County “We’re seeing more cases as people let their guard down. People need to wear masks because you are at risk when you are around others,” said Dr. Carol Fox, senior vice president and chief medical officer at Excela Health. Read more. Thoughts From… Regional Chief Medical Officer Consortium As Covid-19 is on the rise in many communities, Western Pennyslvania’s hospital chief medical officers issued an appeal to the community for continued vigilance and action. The letter was released by the Western Pennsylvania Regional Chief Medical Officer Consortium, a group of top doctors from each of the local health systems that assembled in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic and have worked behind the scenes and in the public sphere to shape the region's response. Once effective, tobacco use and tobacco smoking alternatives such as e-cigarettes or vaping by Excela Health employees will be strictly prohibited during the employees’ shift or work hours.
