Excela Health Invites Community to Test Drive Surgical Robot, Learn More About Minimally Invasive Cancer Care Options Robot-assisted surgery is the centerpiece of the Excela Health Surgical Institute, where surgeons utilize the innovative da Vinci robotic system to offer the latest in cancer care. Using the da Vinci surgical system, the surgeon operates while seated at a console viewing a 3D image of the surgical field. The surgeon manipulates the master controls below the display, and the system translates those hand, wrist, and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of surgical instruments inside the patient. The community is invited to Westmoreland Mall, Route 30 east of Greensburg, Thursday, November 17 to learn more about the various applications for robot-assisted surgery. Following a presentation at 8:30 a.m. in the mall Food Court by Excela Health, participants are invited to experience the da Vinci system first-hand. The program coincides with Excela’s popular Mall Walkers program held in cooperation with the mall.

World Kindness Day As we approach World Kindness Day on November 13, Betty Minerva from the Well-Being Center shares ways to practice kindness in your everyday life. Betty is a registered nurse, a holistic stress management instructor and a certified health and wellness coach. Research has proven that being kind helps us to feel happier and actually be healthier! Just to name a few health benefits, kindness can help lower blood pressure, heart rate, inflammation and even blood sugar levels. “Feel-good” hormones like serotonin, oxytocin and others improve our mood, eases anxiety, all while promoting a sense of well-being and pleasure. Kindness has been shown to increase our compassion, empathy, and self-esteem. Feeling lonely? Look for ways to show kindness to feel connected to others and directly impact your relationships.
