Excela Health Receives Blue Distinction® Centers for Knee and Hip Replacement Designation Excela Health is proud to announce that it is among a select group of hospitals and facilities that received the Blue Distinction® Centers for Knee and Hip Replacement designation. Facilities designated as Blue Distinction Centers® for Knee and Hip Replacement demonstrate expertise in total knee and total hip replacement surgeries, resulting in fewer patient complications and hospital readmissions. Designated facilities include hospitals (with and without an onsite Intensive Care Unit) and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC). All designated facilities must maintain national accreditation, and ASCs are also required to have an advanced orthopedic certification. In addition to meeting these quality thresholds, hospitals designated as Blue Distinction® Centers+ are on average 20 percent more cost-efficient in an episode of care compared to other facilities.

February is American Heart Month February is a month all about hearts…candy hearts, Valentine hearts…but most importantly, American Heart Month. Cardiovascular disease (heart disease and stroke combined) takes the lives of approximately 2,300 people every day. More people are being diagnosed with heart disease at a young age and while the medical community continues to advance treatment options, prevention is key. Over the past year, the Excela Health Cardiovascular program has grown. The program has added cardiothoracic surgeons, interventional cardiologists and expanded service to include a Claudication Clinic, a recently renovated EP lab and will be adding transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in the coming year. Whether helping patients with prevention tactics, or treating an existing cardiovascular issue, the Excela Health Cardiovascular program continues to support our community and expand the services available in Westmoreland County.
