Music Therapy Group Exercise Excela Health has recently been awarded a grant by the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) to conduct a Music Therapy program for employees.

Music therapy is an evidence-based treatment that can address a variety of healthcare and educational goals. Music therapy may be beneficial to many individuals. It can help with memory, lower blood pressure, improve coping, reduce stress and more. Learn more by visiting the Well-Being Center Intranet page.

The MIND diet, which is an acronym for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay, does just that by improving cognitive function and lowering the risk of Alzheimer’s/dementia by 53%. That’s pretty impressive! This lifestyle eating plan is high in omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin E, B vitamins, flavonoids, lutein and beta carotene and translates them into brain healthy foods. The nutrients in these foods have been shown to slow down aging of the brain, therefore lowering your risk of Alzheimer’s/dementia. In our local communities there are a surprising number of people at increased risk for disease/mortality as a result of their age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status or a disability. We can help! The Nursing Excellence Team invites ALL Excela Health Units/Departments to join together to support those suffering from Health Disparities in our area.

Each area will make a coin collection container, marked with their charity of choice. The container should be kept in a location that is secure yet visible.

While department staff collect money for the charity and ADD POINTS in the “WAR” by adding pennies and bills, staff from competing areas may add silver coins to the container, which will add to the charity, but DECREASE POINTS for that unit/dept.
