Ideal Protein (Non-Surgical Weight Loss Program) The Excela Health Weight Management Center offers a non-surgical weight loss program. Ideal Protein is a medically developed, ketogenic weight loss and weight management protocol designed to help change both the body and the mindset. Through a three-phase nutrition protocol, patients can reset their lifestyle gradually. The first phase, weight loss, will restrict carbohydrate intake and optimize fat loss. Phase two, stabilization, will adjust the intake of protein, fats and carbs to manage hunger and maintain weight loss. Phase three, the maintenance phase, will allow patients to continue to receive education and support to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Patients may self-refer to the program or physicians are able to refer patients to this program through Allscripts. Patients taking part in the Ideal Protein program receive support from the staff, newsletters, and soon may have the opportunity to join a private Facebook support group with others from the program. To learn more about the Ideal Protein program or to participate in a virtual information session, patients can contact the Weight Management Center at 724-850-3142. Excela Health employees qualify for a 40% discount on the Ideal Protein program.

It’s called the left atrial appendage. For patients with atrial fibrillation, it can become a reservoir where blood clots form, migrate and cause stroke or other serious problems. That’s why afib patients require blood thinners that while effective, can impact quality of life. Our providers are performing minimally invasive ligation, which means sealing off the area of the left atrial appendage in selected patients. Using small incisions, or a catheter through the groin area, they seal off the appendage and close it from circulation so clots no longer can be formed in the structure. No left atrial appendage significantly reduces the risk of blood clots and in the majority of patients blood thinners can be stopped safely. By using minimally invasive techniques, patients experience less blood loss, less postoperative pain and a faster recovery. Talk to your cardiologist or call 724-689-1355.
