“Bem vindo” to Dr. Ryan Abegglen!

August 22, 2019

Excela Health Day at the Fair Summer may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean the fun should stop! On August 19, nearly 100 employees and their family members visited the Westmoreland Fair to celebrate Excela Health Day! That evening visitors to the Excela booth could get their blood pressure checked by volunteers from the orthopedics group, learn about career opportunities from Excela Health Home Care & Hospice as well as be educated on stroke awareness. As the evening continued the Excela Health team huddled together for the annual group photo. Thank you to all who enjoyed the event with Excela Health!

Welcome to Dr. Ryan Abegglen, a new addition to Excela Health Surgical Specialists, practicing at Excela Square at Latrobe. Dr. Abegglen joins Excela after finishing his surgical residency at UPMC Mercy. Along with his surgical expertise, Dr. Abegglen brings a unique skill, he is fluent in Portugese! Dr. Abegglen’s schooling spanned the country, beginning with his undergraduate degree at Weber State University in Ogden, UT. Continuing at the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington D.C. where he began medical school. He then transferred to the Pittsburgh area with his wife Heather where he completed his education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Abegglen enjoys spending time with his wife, who is a paediatrician at UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics, and their two children. His philosophy of care reflects his focus on his family, “I strive to treat my patients in a way that I would want and expect my family to be treated in the same situation.”

Finding Financial Freedom On August 20, Washington Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Services released a new online seminar, free to Excela Health employees, providing a guide to financial stability. This session offers suggestions on controlling expenses and how to create a recovery plan for growing debt. To access the webinar, visit http://www.washingtoneapservices.com/ using the password “excela” and navigate to the “Living” tab, then click on “Financial”. If you visit the Progressive Care Unit at Frick Hospital, you may just be lucky enough to be in the presence of royalty! Sarah DuBrul is an Excela Health volunteer in the PCU and also happens to be the 2019 Westmoreland Fair Queen! Be sure to congratulate her Royal Highness if you see her!
