Perilous – full of danger or risk. This describes the type of piece composer Larry Clark has created for the youngest of string players. Gothic Quest sounds like it’s from another time but powerful! Composer Emily Golan draws from her experience in the classroom to deliver an aggressive composition for younger students that takes them on a musical journey that is first aggressive, but then moves to a more heartfelt lyrical theme before returning to the bold minor themes for an intense conclusion. Popular composer Doug Spata presents us with a solid new piece that will help teachers introduce students to simple cut time and the key of G minor. The rhythmic pulsation is consistent in presentation throughout so the students can focus on more musical matters in this driving composition. (1:30)

Liam Ramsey-White is an up and coming composer who is writing fresh music for string orchestra. With Chariot Race he gives the student the opportunity to play dramatic music that is very idiomatic for the instruments because of his knowledge as a string music educator. Music for a Night Sky is an introspective composition from composer Jorge L. Vargas. The piece has a moderate flowing waltz that begins reflective but then builds in complexity. It escalates to a more joyful climatic sound before retreating for a reflective conclusion. (2:19) POW2304

The Tango is a dance of romance, and Jalapeño Tango contains all of the dramatic flavor of a native Brazilian Tango. The bows will be shuddering in this piece as the students dig into aggressive sixteenth rhythms in this piece. Composer Doug Spata does it again with a dramatic composition that will get the students excited as his pieces do. We are honored to have Doug’s music in our catalog! (2:00)
This is the gorgeous second movement from Symphony No. 1 by Russian composer Vasily Kalinnikov as arranged for strings by Caryn Wiegand Neidhold. It is a beautiful symphonic movement that stands on its own. It is the epitome of the late 19th century romantic style with its lush harmonic choices and textures. This version is a welcome addition to the string orchestra repertoire. (3:45)

Originally a piano piece by composer F.W. Meacham written in 1885, this piece depicts the approaching, passing, and fading away into the distance of a military unit. While there are many versions of this popular piece, including one by the famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, composer/arranger Steven L.
