Supporting our work As a local independent charity, Age UK Mid Mersey relies on the generosity of local people and businesses to help fund our work across the boroughs. The money we generate is invested in services for older people and their carers in Halton, St Helens and Warrington. It is only with support from our local donors that we are able to undertake such valuable work, which helps people maintain control of their lives, helps reduce social isolation, promotes health and wellbeing and enables people to remain independent for longer. If you can help in any way please get in touch.

Charity Shops & Borough Hub We currently have two charity shops in St Helens, selling a range of donated goods, including nearly new clothing, books, bric-a-brac and small electrical items. The income generated from our charity shops underpins the work of the charity and is all spent locally for local people across the three boroughs. We rely on donations of saleable items to stock our shops. If you would like to donate an item please get in touch. 01744 612 256 (Claughton Street, St Helens) Monday – Friday, 10.00 am – 3.00 pm & Saturday, 9.30 am – 3.00 pm enquiries@aukmm.org.uk 01744 819 237 (Peckershill Road, St Helens) Monday – Friday, 10.00 am – 4.00 pm enquiries@aukmm.org.uk 01925 244 645 (Warrington Hub) Monday – Friday, 9.30 am – 4.30 am enquiries@aukmm.org.uk

This booklet details the services and activities offered by Age UK Mid Mersey. We are a local organisation, run by local people and we exist solely for the benefit of local residents. Age UK Mid Mersey (formerly Age Concern Mid Mersey) was formed in 2008 with the merger of three local Age Concern organisations: Halton (Runcorn and Widnes), St Helens and Warrington; however, we have many more years of experience delivering a wide range of trusted services to people aged 50+ within each of these boroughs. Later life can present a whole range of different decisions, options and challenges and we have helped many older people to feel safe and secure, to mix with others through a variety of activities and to feel supported through the difficult times in their lives. Whether you are fit and active and looking for social activities or more frail and vulnerable and looking for high-quality support, Age UK Mid Mersey strives to ensure that older people are not forgotten and that their skills and experience are embraced, enhanced and valued within our communities. We believe that older people deserve high-quality professional services and activities throughout their later years and we are committed to making sure that we can make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience for everyone. We value the support we receive from our dedicated volunteers in helping us to achieve this. I would urge you to read all the information in this booklet. Services we offer may not all be relevant to you now, but may be of use to you or someone you know in the future. With best wishes, Philip Longworth Chief Executive

Participating Older people have a wealth of skills, experience and knowledge that they have amassed over their lifetime. We value this experience and accordingly support a range of opportunities for older people to influence local life.

Participation Groups Our participation groups are a satellite link of Halton Older People’s Empowerment Network (Halton OPEN). These give older people an opportunity to get out of their homes and join in with social activities, to be consulted about local issues and to have their views fed into the planning process for services that are delivered in Halton. There are coffee mornings and community groups offering a chance to take part in arts and craft activities and to hear guest speakers invited in from other organisations. Occasional outings also take place from time to time. “If you don’t get out of the house then you just get depressed”. “It’s enjoyable to get out of the house, to socialise and to keep one’s mind active through activities” – it’s like “walking into one big family”. 01928 575 400 (Runcorn) Monday – Thursday, 9.00 am – 4.00 pm; Friday, 9.00 am – 1.00 pm enquiries@aukmm.org.uk 0151 257 7128 (Widnes) Monday – Thursday, 9.00 am – 4.00 pm; Friday, 9.00 am – 1.00 pm enquiries@aukmm.org.uk
